basically it is... there is a magic sleeping bag in the miniatures handbook, it basically has protection from elements on it...

Valessa Marr wrote:

“Erm, professor ir’Valdi,” she says to Ruuz, “do you think Korranberg will be thrilled if we give half our finds away to Morgrave? After all, this is an important archaeological site … and we did get here first.”

Ruuz tears his gaze from Jyra and looks a Valessa "What was.... aaa no we are going to sell them some of the artifacts for half the market value in exchange for their hired swords and Miss Jyra's expertise."

"You are far to kind sir, Professor Ghorkin is by far the master of the expedition, I am only his humble assisstant--"

It seems she was about to say more, but just trails off.

"Yes," the Professor says, looking at 'ir'Valdi' throgh slitted eyes, "as my lovely assistant points out, I am the expedition leader and--"

"My word! Valessa?"

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

“Yes, Valessa, fancy that?” she replies, her eyes equally as narrowed, hands on her hips. “Well, leading an actual expedition, we are quite the man of action aren’t we?” she continues with false bravado, (Bluff: 15) throwing another glance at Jyra.

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren looks up as this professor acknowledges Valessa by name. Then hearing his friend's glowering retort, he lets out a low, feral growl and slightly bears his teeth.

Male Changeling Artificer 4rd

Ruuz looks at Valessa and Professor Ghorkin "My Professor Torkin you know my historical expert? What are the chances of that?" Ruuz looks back at Jyra "Well Jyra how about you start the introduction with your group and I will introduce my.." Ruuz looks at Beren baring his teeth "..rather eager crew."

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

"Oh, he wishes he knew me," Valessa mutters under her breath.

Female Human Fighter/3

Sari upon listening to the ramblings of both the Jyra and Ruuz decides that this introduction issue needs to be out of the way so that they can get what they came for and be done with these ingrates. Sari walks up to Ruuz and Valessa. "I am Sari of the the house of Denieth and the bladesmark guild, I was hired by the Morgrave expedition. Whom may all of you be and just what are your interests here?"

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren turns back to the hole in the ground, ignoring the conversation taking place. He now has a goal, and he intends to see it through. Unsheathing his longsword, he squats down to inspect the bloodied ropes and the interior of the natural dungeon, readying himself for any abomination that may come forth. He is looking for danger, clues regarding the bloodied and broken ropes, and tracks of activity. He is also attempting to decipher how far down this hole descends, and what, if anything, is at the bottom.

For Beren:

Spoiler:

Pearing into the opening is unrevealing, aside from the the shadowy half-light that stretches out beneathe you. You are confident the drop is more than the 20' to 30' you can see, but how much more remains to be seen.

Turning your attentionb to the rope, and using the tip of your blade to pull it free of the maggots and muck sets off a reaction within the ground. You hear the echoing beat of wings, and manage to throw yourself back at flat as enormous four-winged bat creatures come swooping up out of the hole.

The group:

Things seem to be normalizing, Professor Ghorkin losing some of his initial bluster, when suddenly a sound like thunder rises out of the hole behind you.

Initiative please

I rolled initiative for Merreck so we can keep going:

Initiative order: Round 1

Brick 22
Beren 18+
Sari 18-
Critters 17
Ruuz 16
Jyra 15
Rokko 11
Valessa 10
Explorers 6
Merreck 4

There is a cloud of the odd looking bat creatures, more than can be counted with a glance (that is it will take a move action to count them). They are obviously unnatural creatures, and they also present obvious intent to eat you.

Also, for reference, it is a little over an hour after the fight with the 'giants', and about an hour and a half after the fight with the harpy.

Brick looks up as the sky is inundated with flying bat-like creatures. He remembers back to his short time spent on the ship before he was flung overboard and thinks of rats. "Flying rats. Neat!"

Brick is delaying until someone is hurt or he is attacked

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

“Look out, bat things,” Beren screams as he pushes himself backwards from the gaping hole and watches the sky fill with the creatures. With longsword already in hand, he also unsheathes his shortsword and moves to defend himself and his friends and destroy the new threat.

If Beren can take a full round melee attack action he will attack with both swords. Probably cant do this, but the rolls are provided just in case.

Longsword Attack (Roll Nat. 20+4=24), Threat Confirm (Roll 5+4=9)

Assuming no crit - Damage (Roll 7+2=9), if Crit add (Roll 1+2=3)

If. App., Shortsword Attack (Roll 7+4=11), Damage (Roll 1+1=2)

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

You don't get the short swords this turn, but your longsword blow cut two of the wings of the creature off, and it falls from the air dead before it hits the ground.

Sari seeing Beren attacking the flying bat creatures grabs her Xen'drik Boomerang and throws it into the air towards the bulk of the creatures. Attack Roll: 19+1=20 Damage: 5+3=8 Attack roll to catch it:5+4=9 I missed catching it.

How big are these bat things? Do they have more than two wings?

You weaken your target greatly, causing it to fall out of the air and land limply on the ground. In seconds two of the others have shredded the bdy and made off with the choicest bits.

The remainder are still hungry.

The creatues swarm through the air, scraping and clawing at everyone - damage 2 reflex save DC 15 for half.

A few individuals concentrate:

Sari: attack roll: 16 damage 5
Valessa: attack roll: 14 damage 3
Ruuz: attack roll:19 damage 2

the professor and one of the other girls are also attacked.

Anyone who is actually hit:

Spoiler:

Fortitude save, DC 14, or start hemorrhaging

Losing 1 point of Con per round for 1d4 rounds... i'll trust you

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

Valessa ducks and weaves as a swarm of the tiny creatures flocks towards her, managing to avoid the brunt of their sharp edged bodies.

Reflex save 11+5 = 16, 1hp damage.

However, in avoiding the bulk of the swarm, Valessa does not see the individual creature who seems to have taken a special interest in her…

“Argh! Someone get this thing off me! I can’t stop the bleeding!”

Darn flat footed AC! Fort save, 7+1=8, 3 rounds. 3 damage + 2 from blood drain. Is the thing actually attached to me sucking blood or anything, or just fluttering around, clawing and biting?

It is his turn, we can wait

Male Changeling Artificer 4rd

The sudden sight of the swarm of flying creatures take Ruuz by surprise. As they are flying around him he feels on land on his hand and pain shoots through his arm as the creature rips a large chunk of skin off before he can shake it off.
Reflex save 3 + 2 = 5
Fortitude Save 4
bleeds for 2 rounds

The creature flies off with a good portion of meat and Ruuz tries to no avail to stop the bleeding. Anger courses through him and he morningstar and starts swinging.
Attack 5 + 1 = 6 All my rolls seem real stellar

Jyra draws out a torch, and lights it with a tindertwig. She swings it around wildly attempting to keep the creatures at bay.

Rokko fires off an orb in the direction of one of the.... Things.

Concentration check (if needed): 15 + 7 = 22. Roll to hit = 2 + 6 + 1 = 9. Damage - not really an issue.

After his orb spell goes wild, he grimly takes out his crossbow.

um, you hit...

they have a serious penalty to their touch ac because they are in "cloud" formation

Slight rewind. After his orb hits true, Rokko grimly digs out his crossbow.

"Take that you little bloodsucker!" yells Valessa, swinging savagely at one of the creatures with her rapier.

To hi: Nat 20+2 = 22. Roll to confirm crit if applicable: 13+2 = 15. Damage: 6+1 and 2+1 if critical.

If she manages to kill that one, and is not immediately threatened by any others, she will try to pull out a potion from her pack.

The 'explorers' have thrown themselves to the ground, covering their heads with their hands. Aside from the professor, they are all screaming in an unseemly manner. Only Jyra seems coherent enough to act.

Merreck

and I should be back to nearly regular now... no more house guest

It might be best to NPC Merreck this action - I'm not sure when Arctaris is coming back from his trip, but I think it might be a few days yet.

Let's give him a bit longer. I think he should be around today, and if so, he normally comes online in a few hours from now.

Sorry about my absence. A week without internet was painful. On the up side I had a birthday and we played D&D until ungodly hours of the night.
I shout a prayer for Fortune to favor us while holding the engraved pommel of my scimitar tightly and everyone feels Fortune giving a little guidance on their attacks. Satisfyed I pull my scimitar from my belt and prepare to kill a nearby creature.
Casting Bless. All allies within 50ft get a +1 bonus on attack rolls and saves against fear. Concentration if necassary 13 (12+1)

M Goblin Cleric (Evangelist) 3

I think we need an NPC Man to play brick.
