Hi,
I was also thinking about translating the promotional material first and establishing a baseline to be able to translate further material (like: D0), if our endeavour is successful.

I read somewhere, that we can download the (english) PDFs (for free), if we are subscribers to pathfinder. Hmm, as I read what I wrote again it seems to good to be true. But I definitly think there was something about handouts and maps and stuff. So why not adding a link to a german or spanish or french version of the text.
It does not even have to be a full translation. Translating the names of NSCs, places, maps and handouts would be a real time saver.
All the legal and copyright issues would be solved, as it would be your material on your site.
You could even integrate this as a community effort, further cutting costs by paying with some small pdf downloads and getting us to translate for you.
I think this would be unique and make your products more attractive for foreign markets.
Thats what I had in mind, lautlos put it more precisely.

This sounds interesting, indeed.
You make two assumptions, though:1) There won't be any official translation distributed by a european company (remember: Paizo still plans to probe the market here)
2) Our translation efforts would grow "official"... *lol*
Let's see the results of our blog translations and if Paizo keeps on looking favourably on it, we might really produce some kind of (un)official translation advice... ;-)
Greetings,
Günther
P.S.
I'll write a mail to Oliver.

Hi, we have posted the first blog entry here:
We will also post it on d20-Welten and Grofafo...
we had some questions about the translation of some of the location names, we hope to address these questions with the Paizo staff as some additional information would be necessary to provide a good translation (for example: Ashwood, is it ash as in fire remains or the tree).

So far the feedback was quite friendly

That would be great. By the way, would you mind if I take your "Ten fun facts" as the basis for the next translation (truth is, i have already, but I think I should ask before publishing anything)
Björn
No problem. Just use it. But better make sure that there aren't any errors in it before addressing larger audience... ;-) One or two words in it sounded somewhat strange to my ears...
What about the other volunteers? Quite some board members chimed in, but lately I just see the same three, four nicks in this thread...
Greetings,
Günther

My wrong. Maybe I should have made a last announcement before posting the first blog entry to the german boards. But after feedback was given via the yahoogroup (and after some heavy editing by Oliver von Spreckelsen), we thought we'd give it a start. We had surely not the intention to pass someone over.
btw. the #pathfinder irc chat is a really good place to give our translations the last touches.

The postings look fine!
But we should urgently reconsider the planning of this endeavour.
You find a file of mine in the upload section of the yahoo group.
No further comment needed, I guess.
I feel very disappointed due to the evening's worth of work I obviously spent for naught.
I can only agree with what Stebehil wrote above.
I recommend to read my posting to the yahoogroup for further details.
Greetings,
Günther

So, just to give you an update of what we've done so far:
in the meantime, we have added another board to those we post our blog translations in; you can find them here:
dnd-gate
Greifenklaue
Grofafo
d20-welten
Blutschwerter
We have translated and posted twenty blog entries so far which includes 2 translations of the #pathfinder chat summaries:
07-05-05: What's Pathfinder is all about?
07-05-07: Reinventing the Wheel
07-05-13: Attention to Detail
07-05-17: Raising the Runelords
07-05-22: Monsters are to Pathfinder what Icing is to cake
07-05-28: Hail to the King
07-06-03: Ye Gods
07-06-14: ...And the Dragon comes in the Niiiiiights!
07-06-18: Pathfinder Backgrounds
07-06-24: In his own words (+ #pathfinder chat summary 07-05-01)
07-06-25: Leaping Slime
07-06-28: I hate Fey
07-06-29: Meet the Iconics: Valeros
07-07-03: Varisia: Players Welcome
07-07-05: Meet the Iconics: Seoni
07-07-08: In their own words Part II: #pathfinder chat summary (07-05-08)
07-07-11: Marks of Sin
07-07-14: Weapons, Varisia-Style
07-07-21: The late Unpleasantness
07-07-24: Forge Spurned
With those translations we have generated 6807 views up to now, which means around 350 views per entry. Not counted the feedback given, that may amount to around 250 different people reading those translations.
Feedback has been quite appreciative so far. Some skepticism has been expressed as far as the Pathfinder format is concerned, but most people (at least those people who respond) seem to appreciate the content. Especially Wayne Reynold's incredible artwork has been received with great enthusiasm. But positive feedback included the general campaign design as well as some details (i.e. the way you portray the dwarven God Droskar, which is not quite the typical dwarven god, though he is undeniable dwarvish).
As you can see, we are a bit behind the actual blog entries but we try to be up-to-date soon.
As an aside, I thought you may be interested in the general enthusiasm about other Paizo products (i.e the GameMastery Map Packs which are generally appreciated for their high-quality-design).
Yours,
Wormys_Queue

The "Blutschwerter"-Link given above seems to be broken, but this here should work:

Those posts at the "Blutschwerter"-Forums totally sold me to both Pathfinder and the GameMastery Modules.
I even managed to win one of the "Dragon´s Trove"-Item Card Decks (it stands right here next to my laptop)!
So, thanks for your translations!
And a big Thanks to all the folks at Paizo for those great products!

Since I was disconnected from the chat 5 minutes before I woke up...
We are very eager to test our mettle on the Player's Guide, but since only Game Mechanics are OGL... i.e. feats, equipquatsch, that would only be for our private enjoyment. Am I correct in that regard (sigh)?

Wow, here I was doing this whole song & dance to translate the song into German for my soon-starting group when I figured I gonna check out the forums if someone else had done a translation.
I used all your translations to mash it into one I think is more rhythmically aligned with the original one.
I know this thread is receiving a revival this way, but hopefully someone will still comment on the fusion & original thingy I did. I omitted the "und" in the stanzas as they do not fit into the chanting sort of thing that goes on in the song, too many syllables and such.
Also, while doing this I was almost falling out of my chair when I thought of an alternative to the first two lines of the last quartett, hope you like it.
Goblins beißen, Goblins kauen,
Goblins schneiden, Goblins hauen,
Schlitz den Hund, zerhack den Gaul,
Goblins fressen, hau’n aufs Maul.
Goblins prügeln, Goblins preschen,
Goblins springen, Goblins dreschen,
Matsch den Kopf, die Haut brenn rot,
Goblins hier und du bist tot.
Fang den Welpen, schnapp das Kind,
Schlag den Kopf, bis still sie sind!
Knochen brechen, Fleisch zum Fressen,
Wir die Goblins, ihr das Essen.
Alternative third stanza:
Fang den Welpen, schnapp das Gör
Kopf-Bäng, und still – Ich schwör!
Knochen brechen, Fleisch zum Fressen,
Wir die Goblins, ihr das Essen!
For the record: I did part of the FRCS translation for Amigo and did some Dragonlance shortstory translations for Goldmann/Blanvalet back in the day, so if anyone just needs some lines and stuff fixed give me a holler. Can't/don't want to do any translations and such as I can't even find the energy to really work on my projects... depression is a b*&%@

Yeah, it's a vast improvement compared to what we came up before. Like it very much.

Maybe I'll come back to this. As you may have read in this very thread, we're translating the Paizo blog entries and post them on some german boards and as I'm no professional translator there are times when I could need a bit help.
