I guess no Age of Worms Hardcover after all :(

Dragon and Dungeon Transition Discussion

I guess this explains why there isn't going to be an Age of Worms Hardcover after all.
Poop.

I have to say this brings up a lot of emotions in me. I grew up with Dragon magazine and to see it go makes me very sad.
Very very sad.

Yet at the same time I feel tremendous anger towards WOTC. Dungeon magazine has transformed in the last 2 years to one of the best DM resources available.

Would it not be possible to just change the names of the magazines and continue to publish just as you have been minus protected content?

I'm going straight to the WOTC message boards and letting them know how pissed I am at them for this decision.

From the FAQ:

What does this development mean for the prospect of future collaborations between Wizards of the Coast and Paizo, such as a hardcover compilation of the Age of Worms Adventure Path, more volumes in the Dragon Compendium series, etc.?

Both companies remain on good terms and are discussing opportunities for future collaborations.

Riiiiiiggggghhhhtttt. Vic, I love you and the guys at Paizo as much as anyone here on the boards. And I know you probably have to toe the company line. But puh-lease.

They. Pulled. Your. License.

You consistently produce a higher quality product, both in production values (which I've been happy with WotC stuff too) and content (in which you mop up the floor with them) and creativity (again no contest).

The announcement has set off a firestorm of controversy, all of it firmly coming down on WotC shoulders.

Your customers LOVE you.

Given these facts and probably many more, there's no way Wizards will allow you back into the sandbox that they just dumped out. I hereby predict that while we may see the Age of Worms HC (they'd be stupid to ignore the potential revenue), we will not see Dragon Compendium 2. At least not with Paizo's involvement.

well, you never know...

things like the SCAP hardcover and Dragon Compendium I undoubtedly needed to be negotated wholly separately from the Dragon/Dungeon licenses, because they were books and not magazines.

is Wizards going to produce a DC2 or AoW book on their own? i highly doubt that. can they even use Paizo-produced material from the magazines (and if so to what degree)?

if these books are ever going to see print at all, it's almost certain that it would be produced by Paizo, under license from Wizards. Is it possible? absolutely. Is it likely? uncertain, at best, until we hear otherwise.

That is precisely true. And that's why nobody can say what Paizo and Wizards might work together on in the future. We really do have a good relationship between the two companies.

Wizards owns everything that ever appeared in Dragon or Dungeon under Paizo's watch, with the exception of some fiction and comics.
