Make that level 26 (Woo! At last my goon squad is complete!) and the formation of a supervillain group on the Guardian server, known as the Storm Raiders.

Naturally enough, unless you count my henchmen, I'm the only member, and the base amount to the teleporter room until such time as I accumulate enough prestige to buy more rooms and outfit them.

In GW, I do have a guild hall, with some of the vendor-types purchased, and a cape, so my GW account is further along on pretending to be a real group than my CoV/H account.

Been on hiatus from COH/COV for the last month - Christmas, New Year's End of the year closings, Start of the year accounts, etc. Missed the Winter Event (bummer) - but hopefully should be getting back soon.

I'm all over the place in terms of servers w/both COH and COV. Soon as I get back in I'll try to give a shout out. What are the main servers, - any in particular? Guardian? Pinnacle? Did I miss it somewhere in the thread?

Anyhow, I would sat I'm much more of a COH fan; GW attendee; and less of a WOW player. So...umm...hello!

People seem scattered all over the servers with CoH/V. I'm currently playing it mainly because it's the easiest of my three primary choices until I get a new video card; EVE had the Trinity update and now it's too shiny for my chipset, and GW demands I run it on the lowest settings.

I will, hopefully, be rectifying this in the next week.

I'm @X235 in CoH/V, and Kassil Roshah is my main in GW.

In other GW news, I beat Nightfall yesterday. Yay! :D

Cool.

I just got a new video card. I can run GW, CoV/H, and EVE all at top quality now.

I may have to spring for a case fan or something, though, because that 500W power supply gets the case warm...

I actually have yet to beat any campaigns. This may be in part due to my hatred of Leroy Jenkins events, which has caused me to develop a severe dislike of grouping with most other lifeforms, and due to my dialup connection, which occasionally spazzes out on me to an absurd degree. Plus new areas can take forever to load up.

The GWEN expansion, I just left myself connected while I was at work and then sleeping, and just got up to go through the intro section.

Around what times are you usually on, Mike?

I also tend to solo, which is why I *LOVE* Guild Wars so much. The Heroes from Nightfall and GWEN and even the henchmen make it possible to play the game without fear of fools. In fact, my main character, who just beat Nightfall, has never been in a party with another human player. :D

I usually play from about 10pm PST to midnight PST most weeknights (although I've been taking a breather since beating Nightfall). I also play some weekends, when I'm not stuck in freelancer purgatory (or sometimes because I am stuck in freelancer purgatory).

Too true. It's one of the reasons I love GW, myself - particularly since I'm currently twitching at CoH/V after being given a mission on both characters where I got stomped all over the place by the boss-type.

OTOH, I also don't think the bloody brass knuckles arena mission in GWEN is particularly well-handled, either. Something about not getting to have any skills that let you counter the fact that some of the enemies cause Bleeding... I'm sure there's a trick to it, but feh.

I want the ability to add more Heroes to my party. A Hero-packed party with Monks and interrupt-based Mesmers would be awesome.

Yeah, those solo quests in GWEN are tough. I'm not sure I've gotten to the bloody brass knuckles one, but I've definitely done the normal brass knuckles quests (including the one with the Leroy-Jenkins-esque character).

I don't mind teaming up in CoH. It seems like the game with the best player base. I think I've been in one crummy PUG and I dropped out of it rather quickly.

By bloody, I mean I am swearing about it. It's the eight rounds solo mission, wherein you get a handful of random creatures, some with healing signets and skills that cause bleeding, all out for your blood. And you just have the brass knuckles skills, of which none constitute a proper heal.

I have yet to group in CoH. Most games, if I group it's because someone else I know formed a group with me, and they invited others to join in or were building a group for a specific purpose.

Issue 12 has been anounced. It should go live in the next month or three. Go to the CoH web site for more info.

Ooh... a GW Thread...

Anyone still playing this?

Silver Crusade

I really need to reactivate my CoH account, if only to reassemble the Presidents of the United States.

That and I miss Bowling Ball, the dwarf kineticist speedster.

I used to play CoH.

I still play Guild Wars, though.

How far are you? what is(/are) your character(s) name(s) and classes?

City of Heroes player here...

I have mostly villains on Justice. Villain group "The Triad" which was created 4 days after CoV Launch. 50 Merc/Dark Mastermind, 38 Widow, 50 fire/fire tank...and many more!

I am @Xaaon globally (big shock eh?)

Issue 13 announced, no launch date yet. Looks to be a funn issue, Shields are coming out!!! WooT!!!

Honestly, I'm not very far. Lack of time has prevented me from becoming a supergamer.

My lvl 20 Ranger/Mesmer is named Lynx Child. I haven't been able to beat all of the Ascension Quests with her - I got Eye of the North and that distracted me.

I've yet to complete this game myself. Anyone still active?

Scarab Sages

I've got a couple level 50 heroes and villains on Virtue, with a dozen different characters at various points below 50. I have a handful of lowbies on Triumph and Freedom that don't get much attention, as well.

Alright I'm looking for Guild Wars players again. I got a guild you can join, access to a guild hall, and I've got a fair bit of experience with the game now. I'm willing to help anyone level up characters and complete missions.

Contact me in paizo chat or through my character Xithica Vandal in the game. Just make sure you call me Guy Humual so I know where you know me from :D

Ditto! I feel ya on that one.

Let me just say that if COH ever comes back in some incarnation, I don't think I will take it for granted when playing it.

I can't believe I never got around to finishing the story in (new) Dark Astoria. :(

Yep - that was on my list among others.

The whole Night Ward zone storyline was big on my list. I had a Praetorian Earth character who had managed to avoid any stories related to Primal Earth - except for some Task Forces. I had managed to have him go from the main Praetorian Zones to First Ward to Night Ward. It made for some storylines that kept you out of all the Paragon City city stuff. It was starting to give Praetorian Earth its own unique history that sort of parallelled the Primal Earth world in a dystopic way.

That aside, I was kind of happy to have at least finished the Imperious Task Force before they closed. I heard so much about it.

Heh, I had one praetorian stubbornly working towards Night Ward without going to Primal Earth first. Made it to level 28, so was getting close!

Praetoria makes me kinda sad, the story there was fantastic and the ending was beyond anti-climatic. ME3 has nothing on the end of the Praetorian story arcs, if you're a loyalist. :p

Absolutely! The Praetorian toon I had was a Loyalist, so that ending was a bummer and very railroaded. I asked on the boards if the Devs ever figured they might change that with future updates to Praetoria.

I think Praetoria was a monumental failure (sales-wise, at least), which is a shame because it had some of the best story elements and storytelling of the entire game. Heck, of the entire genre. But judging from the forums, I guess people just don't like moral ambiguity. And also, splitting the playerbase again might not have been the best idea ever.

Still, some of the most emotionally evocative moments of any game, happened during those first 20 levels of the loyalist protection-arc (and some of the most stomach-churning during the 'heroic' crusader arc. Seriously, you literally feed police officers to ghouls, and people still argue that the resistance are the heroes, by default.)

Agree on many parts. Story-arcs aside, Praetoria was a great way to introduce many visual/interface elements that I think the Devs wanted to revamp across all of COH. It was their "testbed" as it were to see what the game-engine could handle. But to do it, they had to flesh out the parallel Earth they created. To take the idea of what would happen under a super-powered regime to its conclusion and to flesh how things could be "different but the same" from Paragon City was well-done.

The problem is that when you've spent all this time with the main game's continuity painting Praetoria as just "Opposite-Evil Earth," adding that moral ambiguity couldn't overcome that first impression. It was helpful for fleshing out a Praetorian hero's background, but to reconcile with the notion that Emperor Cole (right there for example - too much history just calling him Tyrant in his helm to suddenly show him in a white, noble regalia) and his allies may be more grey than black could be hard to accept for long-time players.

An analogy to me was how Star Trek handled the Klingons and Romulans in the newer series. Despite being villains, the Klingons got to be seen as noble warriors by having good stories that made them interesting and relatable. The Romulans, I think, never got that treatment. Despite several storyline attempts to make them more sympathetic (or at least understandable), I think they still remained "Evil Vulcans" or maybe "Neutral-Evil Vulcans" in the way most viewers saw them.

Overall, I think the escapist, comic-book quality of being a super-hero or super-villain was less visible in Going Rogue. Praetoria is a cruel world in many ways under the pretty veneer, and that may have dampened the fun/escapist nature of the game for some. There's some great drama and ideas in that part of the game, but I'll admit even I had a hard time with the Crusader Hero and the Power Loyalist arcs to play-through.

What I was interesting was how they incorporated First Ward and Night Ward into the game. Despite it being open to all players, the fact that it was so much a part of Praetoria was starting to help explain things better in way that made the first 20 levels more understandable, if not acceptable. First Ward was really the first chance to see just what the Praetorians were fighting against - the sheer destruction and chaos left by Hamidon makes it more obvious why that stability is so highly regarded. Night Ward (which by the way, smacks of DC's Vertigo-style of comics) seems to also show why things are so out of whack - the manipulations by Praetorians has messed with the fabric reality. It kind of implies that they have caused their own disfunctions.

Whew - this is what's happens when you stop playing and spend too much thinking about the game now that it's been closed down.
