While flyering for our public meeting on campus, I visited the offices of 91.5 WUML (used to be WJUL when I was a kid) and scored a promo copy of the Jesus and Mary Chain's new album, which, I read, is their first album in nineteen years.
Will now listen to it:
(So far it sounds like any other J&MC album.)
Apparently Courtney Love hired one of the Reid brothers to kill Kurt Cobain.
Who knew?

The Go-Betweens--"Spring Rain"
Was watching this again and noticed something I hadn't before.
At 2:48 a child rides his bicycle into the background behind Grant, pumps his fist a couple of times at getting into the shot, and then loses control of his bike.
Hee hee!

Sir Lord Baltimore - Sir Lord Baltimore
Was watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when they mentioned Sir Lord Baltimore and I thought of Limey.

More waxing nostalgic:
I used to work in the Newbury Comics (New England-area indie record store turned megaconglomerate) warehouse back around the turn of the century.
Our assistant supervisor, or whatever, was this fetching young lass from Maine who, unfortunately, went by the name "BJ." I was kind of sweet on her, but she didn't like me, and also, was dating one of the dudes from Isis, who, also, didn't like me. Anyway, there was this whole radio system worked out. For the first half of the day, we would listen to the radio; first come, first serve. It was a war everyday between the drummer from Blood for Blood who wanted to listen to Howard Stern, some other rock'n'roller (his band never went anywhere) who wanted to listen to college radio, and me, who would put on classical music or the pop station to piss everyone else off. (I wonder why no one liked me?)
Anyway, at noon, we started listening to the cassette queue, first come first serve, either both sides of a 60-minute cassette, or one side of 90-minute.
Alternately, we could play one of the promo cds that were everywhere. BJ used to play this album, a lot. I never followed them, but I always thought this was a pretty good little alt-country record.

The Shaggs--Philosophy of the World
From New Hampshire, btw.
Looks like this has been reissued, as there was a vinyl copy of it in Ye Olde Newe Recorde Shoppe, but it was £23, so I didn't buy it.
I did get a copy of 'Black Focus', by Yussuf Kamal, though.
And in Ye Olde Seconde Hande Recorde Shoppe:
'Songs in the Key of Z vol 2', which contains:
Curly Toes, which I can only describe as a stripper's chanty, and
And Cousin Mosquito, by Congress-Woman Malinda Jackson Parker, amongst other gems;
And a nice copy of 'Song of a Gypsy' by Damon;
And 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath.

My Youtube playlist of all women or woman fronted metal. Most of it's like the general heavy metal that can trace its roots back to the early 80s (not necessarily the glam stuff), though some can be more modern and heavier sounding. Bands like these don't get the recognition they deserve, often being ignored as opening acts for more established bands or the large festivals, which is a shame. There are some great bands in this sub genre.

virtigo21125 composed the entire soundtrack by himself, for their campaign, which is really cool.

The Dubliners are great, but I've always been more of a Clancy Brothers fan.

I too. Grew up listening to them when other kids my age were listening to kiddie stuff like Thorbjørn Egner. I also liked listening to a reading of Beowulf in OE, come to think of it. Didn't understand a word but I liked the sound.
Also got to see the Dubs in concert the year before Barney died. My girlfriend and I were the youngest faces in the crowd.

Daily Musical Interludes
I'm the guy in the white t-shirt making an ass of myself at around 0:13 and again around 0:54 (at which point you can watch me as I begin my slow-motion faceplant into the bass drum).
The morning after that video shoot was when I realized, aching all over and covered in glitter confetti, that I was officially getting too old for this s~&*. If I remember correctly, that was the last hardcore show I ever went to.

John Lee Hooker--More Real Folk Blues: The Missing Album
Ok, so from what I understand, "The Real Folk Blues" was a compilation series of records Chess put out in the sixties of their stable of artists that were distributed by one of the majors. For some weird reason, the lone exception was JLH's, which was a set he put down in the studio in the late sixties (I'm guessing Chess didn't have the rights to his older stuff). It's also not "folk blues" at all, but I think that applied to most, if not all, of the albums in the series.
Most of them came in two volumes, but Johnny's wasn't released until the early nineties which is why the album gets "The Missing Album" tag.
Anyway, it's awesome, of course.

The Pogues--Red Roses for Me
After listening to this record for over two decades, I finally looked up the Battle of Brisbane.
Also, apparently, "Waxie's Dargle" is about two old women which I never realized before.
