A question concerning spellcasting, mostly concerning the other players. All my core (and most of my non-core) stuff is back home in Norway, so I'm relying on the online d20srd for my rules and resources. However, are there any spells you want me to memorise that come from any of the other books, such as Complete Divine or the Spell Compendium? It probably won't become an issue for a while, but it is always good to be prepared...

Nah, just do what feels right for your character. The PHB covered all the basics so I doubt you'll find any of us whining.

"What you didn't prepare a single COMETFALL or heavenly lightning? "

s'all good

Would you all be opposed to having an outsider watch the game if its off the boards? Been lurking about and would like to watch a game for a while before jumping right in.

I'm fine with nonparticipating outsiders, as long as they're not from the Far Realms. Those things set my skin crawling even through my firewall.

Agreed on this note. They can watch as long as they don't try to eat my brain.

Vatt, I can't think of any 'must have' cleric spells off the top of my head either, though the various Vigor spells from the Complete Divine heal more HP than cure spells of the same level, they just do it over time. Might be nice to memorize 1 or 2 for between combats. That way you make the most of your spell slot. (Lesser Vigor heals 10 + 1/caster level up to 15, I believe, and its a first level spell... but it heals that damage at the rate of 1 per round.)

By no means is this required, just might be 'optimal.'

My projects are back into a maneagable framework, so quick, before they get out of hand again, I'm going to jump over to Rondak's and request to get our game set up! Once the thing gets going, if Grimcleaver's game was any indication, it should be pretty easy to maintain my schedule and administer the game.

Outsiders are fine, but fiends are, specifically, appreciated. Celestials are just... boring.

Oh, maybe some slaad? My interest in them has recently been rekindled.

Saern wrote:

I haven't had a good slaad in awhile. Maybe I'll have a slaad with ranch for lunch today. Maybe a Caesar Slaad. Yeah...

(This has been a running joke with our group for ages. I'm sorry if no one else is amused. Let's just say it started with a slaad lord named 'Saizer' pronounced 'say-zer'. That became 'Caesar' and then the slaad jokes fell into line...)

Well, the application for the game has been sent! I suppose the next step would be for everyone to register on the site. I'df appreicate it if the names are the same or extremely similar to those here on Paizo, just so I know who you are. I'm still using "Saern" over there.

What's the campaign called?

That's the main one I was thinking about - I'd forgotten what it was called. We'll get to it when we start playing...

Northwind Sun.

Just for a bit more info to you all, I expect the first half of the game to be very player-driven, with all the background info you've provided me serving as the stimulus for most of your quests. The second half of the game will feature more "set" campaign elements that I've actually been looking to write down and play out for over two years now. I'm quite excited.

Hmmm... unfortunately, I left my background rather open-ended in order to fit into any situation you wanted to present us with. Ethras' only concern right now is self-improvement and, for a ranger, there are thousands of different paths to take towards that ends. I'll be more than happy to lend myself to someone else's player-driven plotline but Ethras himself is pretty unburdened backstory-wise.

Oh, don't worry, I've got ideas for Ethras!

Awesome! We can get comfortable with our party members and then go interact with the world on a larger scale. Sounds like a great plan to me. WhiteToymaker is now set up at the Portal and waiting for the appropriate game to become visible for joining.

Arcmagik, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'll get an e-mail when the game has been approved, so I'll post here when everything is ready. I'll even try to put in a link!

Grand Lodge

Just became a Portal citizen. I didn't see Northwind Sun anywhere, so I guess it is being processed by Those That Run Things.

Getting soooooo ready for some gaming!

Still no approval notice.

Also, thought I should go ahead and mention that I'll be on vacation from the 10th through the 17th of February, and have some make up work to attend to the day or so afterwards, so I'm afraid that we may get off and then have a week break right after launch. Afterwards, however, everything should run smooth... barring whatever cataclysm I know I just jinxed us into. :)

Make sure to check that you don't have any messages on the portal in case the admins send you something that needs to be done (they have some guidelines about what has to be in the game description but this is usually superseded if you make it clear that the game is private.)

Wiil do, and don't forget to e-mail me your character sheet sometime so I can add it to my stash!

Hey Arcmagik, whats the usual time it takes to set these worlds up?

Assuming that everything is right, and nothing important (like character creation guidelines) are missing, then 2-4 days. However the CoT that does the game updates have been recently absent (like the last two weeks or so), and games have taken more like 4-7 days to be posted.

I will email my character sheet to you soon, like tomorrow night!

Yep, I forgot to prominently post that the game was "invitation only" in the description. The error is fixed and the application has been resubmitted.

Northwind Sun is up, I already applied. Unfornately due to the java-script that the portal uses you can't link the game, however it is easily enough to find. Go to Available Worlds under Citizen Options, D&D 3.5, Northwind Sun, then you apply. You should go to character builder until citizen options first, and then create a sheet with just your portal name on and make sure its set for D&D 3.5 so you have a character to apply (otherwise it will take that you don't have a 3.5 character).

Grand Lodge

I just applied with an empty character sheet as well. Thanks for the procedural help, BTW - otherwise, I would have been completely stumped about what to do.

I've accepted both Arcmagik and Vattnisse. I think I'll wait until I get all the applications accepted to make the first post. We're finally on the verge of launch; I hope everyone is still energetic about their characters!

EDIT- And, ahem, I still haven't gotten Arerath as a completed 2nd level character in my mail yet.

¬_¬ I don't know how I missed asking you what your email address was again, I can't find it (it probably on the front page of this thread too). My email went wacky.

No worries- williebiel@epowerc.net

how do I apply?

Sexi Golem wrote:

oooooohhh by following the instructions.

Ethras still needs to apply, but I'm going to launch thing later today. I've got some things I have to do first, but sometime this evening I should get the introductory post up. Huzzah!

I know, I know. I tried to apply over the weekend but I couldn't find your game anywhere in the list. What was the game name again? I remember just looking for 'Saern' under the 'DM' category and didn't find anything.

available worlds

advanced dungeons and draons 3.5 ed
northwind sun

make sure you build your character or the apply thingy wont pop up on the world description. Not that any of us couldn't figure that out for two hours or anything...

*sigh* Tomorrow, then... things took longer than expected, so once again, I've failed to meet my deadline. I'll get the first post up within 24 hours, though... I hope. :(

It's up! It's up, the first post is made. I'm so happy! Fatespinner, I hope you register as soon as you can.

I've set it up for Lythdrae, Arerath, and Daeman to immediately begin conversing. Ethras, Hrothgar, and Ian/Mithras/Mr. Big Pointy Stick haven't appeared yet, but fear not! It will not be long.

Also, for description's sake and so as not to preempt you from taking the action yourself, Arcmagik, Arerath is assumed to have not case endure elements at this point.

Liberty's Edge

Hey, man. Where's it at? I wanna watch.

First post looks awesome! Got Lythdrae spot on. Now I just need to figure out how to post on this thing. "Reply" I guess?

Heathansson wrote:

It's taking place at Rondak's Portal. Sexi Golem already posted directions to find the place, and then I gather that you just need to apply for lurking rights. I think that you need to get yourself set up as a "Citizen" to get to the appropriate, but that's relatively quick and easy.

Grand Lodge

It's alive! IT'S ALIVE!!

Toymaker's spot on - this looks awesome indeed.

Grand Lodge

BTW - do any other PCs speak Giant? Hrothgar uses Giant terms every once in a while, so I thought I could develop a small vocabulary (nothing fancy - I'll just tweak a few Norwegian and Swedish words and phrases to insert into the conversations).

I think you can either reply or create a new post- not sure which is the better option. Also, Arcmagik, will Fatespinner be able to see this post when he applies to the game? There was a recipient list (the party), which he obviously isn't on yet. I didn't mark the message as private, though, so I think it should be okay.

Arerath and Ethras both speak Giant as well, Vattnisse.

I leave for a week's vacation this Saturday, and don't plan on being available for the game while I'm gone (although I might do some work pertaining to it). Sorry to put a break on it so fast, but maybe we can get to a point where you can all just talk for a week before then? :)

Anyway, I don't know if I'll be able to do it before I leave, since there is a lot of preparing to do, but I'll try and get a map of the region done and e-mail it to all of you, so you can actually see what this part of the world looks like.

Daeman speaks! Not much, and not spell checked but this campaign is officially alive! Woot!

By the way Saern, how did you make spaces in between your lines of text? The traditional enter key only worked in my text box. When I looked at the preview and again when I sent it the spaces dissapeared.

Oh and Thanis you're Ian right?

Sexi Golem wrote:

Basic HTML Formatting works at the Portal. For whatever reason, it gets filtered out and won't show here, but there's a list of common tags here, and I'm sure you could find others with a google search.

Damn, it's hard to put instructions on this thing! They keep disappearing! Use < with a p inside of it, and close it with the opposing symbol. That confused me originally, too.

Yeah, I'm Ian. For good.

So, uh... it's been a couple days and there has only been one post. Is the party waiting until the DM has gotten his vacation off his calendar? Because you don't have to; if there are a few more posts, I can introduce the other characters before I go, and then the next week can be spent conversing or doing whatever while I'm away. Or on hold. I'd just really like to get Ian, Hrothgar, and Ethras into the action (that also requires you to apply, Fatespinner!).

Okay, now we're moving! All we need is a particular ranger to sign up...

*grumble* *grumble*

The company updated the filtering software this week... Rondak's is now blocked to me as well. I still really want to play, but I will have to do so from home (which means I will not be nearly as active).

Thankfully, they have at least spared the boards. *phew*

It can only be a matter of time...

Very well. I suppose your character will just give many people the silent treatment for the majority of the time? Or would you prefer to designate someone to step in and play him so as to make Ethras invovled and still keep things moving? That could get complicated. =/

Also, just to double check, have Ian and Hrothgar recieved my message?

Ethras is not a terribly conversational type so the silent treatment isn't a bad idea. Saern, if there is an immediate need for my rangerly skills (Tracking, Survival, etc.) feel free to adjucate its use on my behalf if needed to advance your plot. I'll try to get registered tonight and plan to visit the game at least once a day.

I got it. I'll get in the fray when I get home (batteries are running low at the office...) in a couple of hours - should we introduce ourselves, or do you want to do a "here are two more travellers" type of thing?

Well, I've asked what Lythdrae and Arcmagik are up to at the moment, and when I hear a reply, I'll move things along. I'll post back here to announce my official suspension of activity for vacation sometime tonight, so that there's not a big guessing game about whether I'm still around or not.
