My definition of "cult" is "bad guys who are working together in this particular adventure." It's a convenient term and often used, but easily replaced in most adventures and settings.
And here I thought "bad guys who are working together in this particular adventure." was a term used by the President and his administration to mean enemy combatant.

MUUUHAAHAAAA!
Wasn't she also quoted as saying "glub glub-BLECH!"
Both evil and tasteless,
Many years ago I was in a restaurant and they had a signed picture of Karen Carpenter on the wall. I thought it was ironic. What kind of message does that send?

i've been worshipping this great green god and NOW i find out its name is 'matt?'
Can you say anticlimactic?
Actually 'matt' is an avatar of Nyarlathotep. I think it's short for 'Mat-thoos-oolooth-athoopadoopa' or something. Matt is kind of a herald for the GGG, who slumbers in an underwater city in Lake Huron.Fake Healer |

"Matt" short for "Matthew" the english form of a biblical name meaning "Gift of God." So I'm "God's Gift." My last name translates as "Son of the Chieftain," but perhaps "Messageboards" is more appropriate. That way I'm "God's Gift to the Messageboards." Now which God gifted me to you -well, that's my secret. Hehehehehe ia, ia....
Men call me, Matt

I guess those guys missed the thread where you admitted to being the author of "The Menagerie" where your name was prominently displayed. That would be Dungeon issue #126.
I didn't think I was giving away the kingdom by revealing your name, oh Great Green God.
BTW--GGG has creativity, humor and a work ethic from Hades, so I light a few candles for him every day in my own little Matt-o-Shrine....plus I feel vaguely guilty every time I drive my Japanese pick up truck.

i did actually miss that. that was a good one, though, so mad props to GGG, i mean matt, for that adventure. i don't post very much and felt...compelled?...to add to a mythos thread. i see posts from people like GGG and F2K all over the place and thought i'd give him a hard time. it's cool to be able to communicate with contributors to the magazines i've loved for so long (well, off and on, sometimes they've sucked) and seeing posts from James Jacobs every 15 minutes is pretty cool. shouldn't he be working?
i'm looking forward to this 3 parter, and ordered that back issue dragon with the far realm articles (shipped out 2 weeks ago and i still haven't gotten it. i love paizo but shipping is ALWAYS slow). of course, i love anything lovecraftian, so hopefully it'll be a good series.

Well, thanks for the props DZA! Its nice to know my peeps 'preciate my crazy mad adventure writin' skillz. Hopefully you'll like what you see in issue 142 I'll be kickin' it old skool - and no it's not part of the arc, so sorry for the digression.
Keepin' it real and not sucking!

Gentlemen, has Bruce Cordell ever written for Dungeon in your recollection? Other than his upcoming Ravenloft revisit, I haven't seen much out of him for a while in the adventures department, and he once was the Adventures-king in the late 90's...

Speaking of Gates of Firestorm Peak, is it worth a look or even a buy? I figure this would be the right thread to ask.

It's been a long while since I played it, but as I recall, it used a lot of the old Players Options stuff from 2e. It also was a big hint as to what was to come in 3e - it included cardboard monster counters based on size as well as fold out maps with grids for major encounter areas. The module itself was OK - some kind of Alienist that opened a dimension to a twisted Outer Realm or some-such. I just remember lots of Duegar that hucked worms on people. Pretty disgusting, but some people may be into that.

It was the first and only Skills and Powers module, and it was fairly vicious. It had a gamebreaking amount of magic Stuff in it, but I didn't mind, as that was going to be the swan song for that particular group. And then we kept adventuring with those characters for....ever.
If you were to go and run it I have this simple bit of advice regarding the Battle Axe that can cast Heal on it's wielder 3/day: while it makes that particular BBG battle more challenging, it will drive you crazy for the following decade. My special thanks to John Simcoe for putting a pair or Caratyd Columns into his Throne of Iuz adventure. Liberation from the accursed axe!!!!!!

There's someone I'd like to see write a mythos inspired adventure. Throne of Iuz almost counts with it's big sleepy toadlike godling reminiscent of Tsathoggua. Very atmospheric and I thought the artwork complimented the piece as well.

DUNGEON #146 MAY 2007
The Savage Tide Adventure Path continues with “Serpents of Scuttlecove,” sending the PCs to an infamous city where the police are cannibals and the streets ruled by murderers and monsters. This adventure is supported by a backdrop article and a four-panel poster map of the pirate city of Scuttlecove. In “Spawn of Sehan,” the second installment of the “Servants of Sehan” three-part campaign arc, the PCs confront a sinister sect of deformed cultists. All this plus a new low-level adventure, Dungeoncraft, Downer, and Mt. Zogon!

Actually 21th isn't that new. I made it up on my 21st birthday, by accident, kinda like that guy who made penicillin.

I think it's probably best if the OG Werecabbage Five zip it until this thing's actually been shipped. Heathy, if James Jacobs wants to come on here and answer your questions, that's probably the best thing for those of us involved to keep us from getting smacked down.
Right on.

Now there's a story I'd like to hear :) I'm going to make a wild guess that there were booze involved maybe ;)
Heathansson |
Well, there was a noon trip to the Purple Porpoise, for "the most alcoholiest thing you can make, bartender." This was followed by pitchers with my best friend and his friend home from the army, then some Steven Sagall movie I remember nothing about, and a bunch of other stuff I cannot attest to the veracity of one way or the other. My best friend is known for an almost Mr. Fantasticesque ability to stretch the truth, so don't believe anything that guy says.
"Thith ish thu besht twenny oneth birshday evar."

I spent my 21st birthday in PLDC...at Fort Chaffee....in August.....
I never did any PLDC. Did they let you have any fun?
Basic was like being a Clone Trooper in Star Wars II, but A.I.T. we got to party in town on the weekends. Looking back on it, I think I would've been better off restricted to barracks the whole time.Heathansson |
Gyaahlee.
This C'thulhu talk brings back memories.
Got that Deities and Demigods 1ed., with the Erol Otus cover, when I was 12. Paging through there, I remember thinking, "okay, I know who Zeus and Thor and Loki are. who's these C'thulhus? What's a Lovecraftian Mytho? Hey, who's this ELRIC cat? Fafhrd, Grey Mouser? Shoot. Where's Conan? They need a Conan! Thoth Amon, man!"
So then of course I had to go look some of these books up.

How about this quote from Jimmy Jakes (taken from ENWorld):
Vices was a very conscious word choice. The Sehan campaign arc has some pretty creepy stuff going on in it.
It won't be drawing upon the cysts and other material presented in Dragon; the Far Realm elements in the Sehan arc are a lot more subtle.
