Combining AoW and "The Madness Follows" (SPOILERS)

Age of Worms Adventure Path

... Or whatever the Yellow King adventure was called.

I was thinking that it would be a great side adventure between EaBK and HoHR.

Have the first village be about a day's travel north of Blackwall Keep. Have the party stay there before the Keep. That way, when they return, the town will be dead.

Then have the theater troupe actually hit Diamond Lake as the small town. Replace the sheriff with Nebin, and have either Smenk or Neff be the mayor going insane.

This + "A gathering of winds" = Diamond Lake in need of SERIOUS urban renewal.

Finally, have the final theater be in Free City. It will definitely put the party on the map as people to watch.

The big challenge is that the party won't be quite powerful enough for the adventure even toned down to 7th level (After EaBK, the party should be 6th level right?). Some more adjustments might be needed.

And maybe work on tying "The Yellow King" into the whole AoW plotline - Maybe fudge the Hastur connection into having the bard troupe be a member of the Ebon Triad?

Anyone else have ideas on these lines?

I haven't read the adventure myself, but now I know what helped get one of my proposals shot down (since it was a madness-type adventure proposal). I'm pretty sure you could fit in the adventure somewhere. Every little bit of XP and treasure you can get from other adventures should help overcome all the TPK situations in the last few AOW adventures.

Personally, i plan to slide it between the Hall of Harsh Reflections and the Champion's Belt. since you can make the interval before the Champions' Games flexible, there should be no trouble fitting in, and the PCs are the right level so no adjustment needed.

As for making it fit, i like the idea of making Diamond Lake the site of the middle episode. to tie it into the plot, i imagine it might work to make the Spire of Long Shadows actually exist in Carcosa, in an alternate dimension, as opposed to another continent. the attempt by sophia to draw Carcosa into the "real" world is an effort to free the minions of Kyuss that are sealed inside the Spire. Thus, when the city "manifests" in the theater, you can give the PCs a preview by letting them see the broken Spire in the ruined city's skyline. Also, the Thing at the end should be very worm-y in its aberrantness to connect it to Kyuss. Just a thought.

Good plan, I did exactly that, it worked in really well although I had the two smaller towns unrelated (the big one as the Free City). For me, it was a side-treck unrelated to the Age of Worms, but actually tied off the adventures we started the whole campaign with (Mad God's Key etc). I've posted my experiences in the General Discussion area of Dungeon mag:
