Warduke and the Unnameable Hierarch

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

I was just reading Warduke's Critical Threat article in Dungeon #105, when something struck me about the "Unnameable Hierarch" of the Horned Society. Just an hour ago or so, I happened to be looking at the classic 1980 Rogue's Gallery, and under the entry for Erac's Cousin, it states that the mysterious evil man had made a pact with Baalzebul to become a greater devil when he dies.

Odd coincidence, or not a coincidence at all? :)

not a coincendecne at all... Erik has stated that his belief has been for some time that Erac's Cousin and the unamabale heirarch are one and the same... (and lets face it, at this point his opoinion is the only one that matters as far as "greyhawk canon" is concerened).

i suspected as much. ;) i just added him to wikipedia earlier today...

Hi,
I remember reading in Iuz the Evil that there was a very powerful fighter going by the unlikely name, Neb Retnar, that aided in sending Iuz on his way after Robilar freed him. It was said that this fighter became evil due to the powerful magic that was released during this fight. When I think about Warduke and how he used to be close with "Strongheart" (I think I got the name right... a Paladin of all things), I can't help but wonder whether this fighter, Neb Retnar, became the Warduke we have all come to love and adore...

http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=168273 had some good discussion on this topic, and IIRC there was a similar thread over on Canonfire! too.

i wonder if the connection will be made "official" at any point... :D
