Asking as a player in the Age of Worms campaign, what can my character do to protect himself against these vile worms that almost killed him three times? As a party we know these things are some sort of zombie-worms, but we're not sure how to protect ourselves given that armour doesn't seem to help. Would it be worthwhile to research some sort of oil/balm/tar that could be applied to the body to repel them? My berserker character seems especially vulnerable, being front-line and unclothed except for a loincloth.
Does anyone have any spoiler-free hints or tips, including rules (I'm not very familiar with d20) that might help us?

The best place to start asking this in character would be someone with ranks in Knowledge: Religion. With a suitably high check you can discover the abilities, strengths, & weaknesses of a particular undead creature. Your party cleric/paladin could possibly hear your berserker muttering about his loathing of the worms and ask your DM if he might remember something with a knowledge check. That way it's still in your Dm's hands in terms of information flow. If he's been infested a few times, you might also look into the Wormhunter prestige class in Dragon magazine. It lets you draw strength from your exposure to the worms and makes you better suited to combating them and other related undead.
Worms aren't necessarily that dangerous assuming you have the capability to smash them like the bugs they are when they get on you. Ijn our game play, having a worm on you simply meant you had to sacrifice an attack to rid yourself of the undead vermin. Its this effect on combat mechanics that make what is normally an unimpressive undead creature more challenging.
Just my take on it based on how our group interprets the rules.
