I hate that im the worst son ever

I hate the fact that after an almost 4 year layoff from running, I got back into it and now that I'm almost back up to running an 8 minute mile for 2-3 miles, my body remembers that I'm almost 40.....DAMMMMIIIIITTT!!!

I hate stairclimbers, I hate ellipticals, I hate exercise bikes, I just want to RUN!!! My body says "go home and crack open a beer instead."

I will not be defeated by my 40 year old body. I just have to work through the pain, the shin splints, the knee aches, the hamstring pulls.

Yes, I stretch.....yes, I wear good running shoes.....yes, I have corrective inserts for my arches....I'm just having a mid-life crisis....good thing they don't make Camaros any more.

Nah, just playin', I feel ya, but in my back, ankles and wrists.

I know what you mean. I'm 34 now, and started back with running about a year ago. I hadn't done any serious running since high school, and since that time I had smoked for about 14 years, drank lots of booze, and generally had very poor eating habits.

What I did was to start off easy, just walking (and occasionally jogging) on a treadmill. But I am like you, I like to run. Luckily, there are great areas to do so around where I live , and before to long I was indulging myself. At first it was rough, but it got easier (especially when I included weight lifting in mmy workout). The only real problem is that I find I am more prone to knee injuries now than I was all those years ago.

Anyway, keep up the effort. I'm sure it will pay off in the end.

uh-oh.

I got some good news and some bad news for you F2K.

The Camaro is coming back. You can see it in the upcoming Tranformers movie. The character of Bumblebee is now going to be a yellow camaro instead of an old VW bug.

I dont know how to imbed links, but you can copy and paste this one for a look:

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/05/31/new-chevy-camaro-to-star-transformer s-movie/

And since we're on the rant thread, can I just say that I hate the fact that Bumblebee is a Camaro?

Yeah, I think that is Chevy's way of getting some advertisement for the newly redesigned Camaro - destined to begin sales in 2009.

Which brings me to my rant. I hate that my car got totaled and I have t buy a new one now. Otherwise I would have waited until 09 and maybe bought a new Camaro. The first car I ever owned was a 1983 Camaro, so they'll always have a special place in my heart.

ENOUGH WITH THE FREAKIN' DRAGONS ALREADY!! Jeez! Dragon Magic. War of the Dragon Queen. Dragons of Faerun. Red Hand of Doom. Draconomicon. Two humongous dragon miniatures. I can now be descended from dragons, wear dragon crafted armor, take feats to give me a breath weapon, and grow horns out of my freakin' ears. All I need is one of those hideous pewter dragon pendants and one of those silk dragon shirts they sell at Hot Topic that you always see guys with neckbeards and ponytails wearing (not that there's anything wrong with that). Oh! And dragon scale underwear.

I realize that these are icons of the game. Dungeons and Dragons, after all. Moderation is nice not only when imbibing alcohol or eating sweets, but when choosing themes for an entire year of role-playing products. No more themes. Please.

Could be worse. Could be year of the drow. Or year of the commoner. Oh wait. That's the plan for 2007 and 2008. Never mind.

Aww, I thought that '07 was slated to be Year of the Half-Dragon Succubus Pirate, and '08 was going to be dedicated to her horde of slavering dire rat minions.

I think censorship is f*&%ing annoying and I really hate it.

On the other hand, I think it is amusing as hell when people rant about s%@! on these boards and the 'censorship bot' makes all their cuss words into random hodge-podges of symbols. I also totally understand why there is censorship on these boards and I completely respect that.

For some reason, seeing "I f%$#ing hate all this stupid bulls#$@" is infinitely more amusing that seeing the actual words and since I come to these boards for entertainment purposes, seeing the symbols there is worth the censorship for the laughter it brings.

Thanks Cosmo--that's a very interesting idea about running with less pain. Appreciate the link!

I am not one to rant...but I must express the following:

I despise racism in all its forms.
I despise that our media and government cultivate a culture of fear.
I despise that it only takes one person with hate in their heart to destroy the lives of people they don't even know.
I despise the fact that I sometimes wish my wonderful children didn't have to see how bad humans can be.

Because I despise these things...

I am thankful that as a culture gamers are open minded and open hearted.
I am thankful that there are people who simply try to do the best they can every day inspite of their fears.
I am thanful that I still believe that the average human being is decent and good.
I am thankful that you took a moment to read this because our time is the only gift we can give another that cannot be taken back.

Thank you.

I frilling hate that Renaissance Festival is so damned close.
Not only do I have to cut my campaign off just as it is smoothly rolling along, but now because I had to go down two weeks before faire to clean up my shop and was late getting back into town I have two sessions to jam into one long one. I also will be pretty much out of a game for two months as my weekends just got eaten up by selling leather goods in a leaky shop wearing a costume.

Yeah yeah, I know it could be worse, but after the years Rennies and such have just been getting on my nerves. I know as a roleplayer that wearing authentic garb and acting a part shouldn't bother me, but its become tedious and the people who make this their life bug me. Its like other posts on here have mentioned the "stereotypes" of gamers, and sometimes watching these people is just frilling embarassing. I don't know. What can I say.

Oh yeah, and I'm not going to be able to read and post as much, seeing how I'll be working basically every day from now until December.

Scarab Sages

I actually have nothing to rant about today. My weekend was pretty damn good. Got DirectTV. Got a new vehicle. Got the latest issue of Dragon (Vecna Rocks!). Oh well, just give me a few days and the forces of fate will take care of that!

I love my family and in-laws, but I'm sick as s~!@ of them being in my house! My folks were in for a week, my mother-in-law arrived the day after they left and we are now 1/2 way through her 2 week visit. Three unadulterated weeks of grandparents spoilage is making my 4 year old a complete brat, but she only gets to see them a couple of times a year, so I understand they have to get the intensive grandparenting in while they can...

My biggest problem is my Ma-in-law is a complete conflict avoidance person and really gets in the way of dicipline. I actually yelled at her last night (well, used the same 'authority' voice I use to make the dog go to her crate). We had just got in, Darby (the dog) was jumping around knocking stuff over and I told her to go to her crate. She did and immediately came back out and knocked over my daughter (not hurt, just annoyed). She got a zap from her training collar and went straight to her kennel and stayed there. I looked over not ten seconds later, my Ma-in-law was standing next to her petting her and telling her she was a good dog. "Judy! Stop rewarding the dog for being bad!! She's in her crate for a reason, leave her alone!"

If I don't get some "Gavin Alone Time" there's fixin' to be bloodshed. Or maybe, I can get training collars for the whole family...

Neckbeards and ponytails do suck. Add on the goofy shirt mentioned above and their Pentagram necklace, their black pants with dangly straps, and you have a geek trying to hide that fact he is a geek under a goofy get up he thinks is initmidating.

I hate when you buy something on eBay and the seller does not leave you feedback on payment. And then when you ask them questions or try to resolve a problem, they hold it over your head and threaten to ruin future transactions silently because you know they have it.

I'm reasonable. if I have reason for negative feedback, I try to resolve it. But when you are hard-headed, and we can't resolve it, I shoud not get negative; I paid, I paid fast, and you got what you wanted. So do the righ thing.

Also: I hate on messageboards when people turn up in roll call style threads claiming they're long time lurkers to get soem sort of street cred. Prove it!

I hate the liberal media; I hate that they took the Pope's comments way out of perspective and are way out of line; I more or less dispize peeps who don't think for themselves and didnt bother to read his entire speach before they go and rant about it; I really rant at the stupid peeps in the middle east that went and firebombed 3 churches and did other acts of violence at the insistance of the lame media and proved the whole misquoted statement about violence and murder as being evil and the whole jihad thing as being evil and those who follow that evil doctrine as being evil as being a correct statement; if you do evil you are evil; murder; wrath, anger, violence, to name a few; if you do or advocate these things you are not good. Personally, I never read anything that said any of Islaams noteable prophets said to do evil to anyone. What with that guy in England calling for the Popes death; sheesh. What I was hoping to see or hear was some dialoge the refuting his statements and a show of prayer and peace; geez was I dissappointed by the extremists who are hmmmm....wait for it.....EVIL! whew glad I got that off my chest before I too succumbed to darkness

Just to be clear, bad reporting has nothing to do with a political ideology of liberalism or conservatism. It's more along the lines of, "GEEZ, LOOK AT THE RATINGS I CAN GET FOR SPEWING SPAM OUT OF MY ASS CRACK ALL DAY LONG! BLAAGGGHHH!!!!"

The major issue is that news and editorial are being completely mixed up. There once was a time, during my troubled youth, when one could trust that one was getting accurate, spin free information from a news network. But that really isn't (or perhaps, wasn't) the case. The fact that stories have to be condensed into 20 second sound bites doesn't help either, nor does the fact that most people aren't in the habit of double-checking sources, going on the internet or even just reading the entire article in the newspaper.

I miss Tom Brokaw.

Seconded. The need for conflict is a greater driving force than liberalism. I am not sur ehow muslim extremists acting unreasonably is the media's fault; those people are lookign for any reason to create a problem.

hehe it wouldnt be rant if it made sense; lol; no that would be more like dialog hehe anyone gonna start a place your dialog here thread; hehe I would read it but it prolly would be a real sleeper.

The media caters to emotional reactionism. The right wing media does the same thing the left wing media does. I'm in the National Rifle Association because I firmly believe in the 2nd amendment and I'm a law enforcement firearms instructor and get a free tote bag from Charlton Heston, but if I get another stupid-ass reactionary e-mail from the NRA claiming the U.N and Kofi Annan is coming to take away my rifles next week, I'm going to come to Paizo and rant about it!!!!

Shut up, NRA--not every one of your members if a dumbass racist redneck cousin shagger. If all you cater to is your lowest common denominator, then that's all you get.

Same thing goes for the left wing too....if all you cater to is the Cindy Sheehans of the world, then stop wondering why Bush is pulling even in the polls again.

Hey, I ranted and it feels good!!

farewell2kings wrote:

This inspires my rant:

People need to realize that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A LIBERAL MEDIA. There is also no such thing as a conservative media. What we have kids, is a capitalist media. Meaning they want you to watch so they can make money, not spread news. So you get these stories that are nothing more than press releases for a product/cause/advertiser mixed with emotional cheap shots and well researched, trend tested audience analysis pieces.

If anything, this type of coverage does lean toward furthering conservative agendas (a decade long media analysis done by The Communications Journal - I may be mistaking the name of the publication, sorry - confirms this) because they tend to benefit large businesses, i.e. media conglomerates. But it is a slight margin... something like a 52% lean. I mean really, who on either side would want to alienate half your audience?

So take anything you see on the news with a grain of salt, or at least with the question, "Are they trying to sell me anything?" in mind.

So, by being capitalist, the liberal media is actually conservative? Interesting. I'm sure Al Franken is feeling some Republican twinges right now as he's figuring out how to get all that back pay he's owed.

Just for the record, I resent manipulation from either political wing, as my rant against the NRA indicated.

Extremism is extremism is extremism... I'm with ya'.

It makes me mental though that the whole "liberal media" thing is so readily accepted by the general public. It was a concious effort by Republican leaders in the mid-80's to guilt the mass-media companies into giving them more favorable coverage... but it quickly took on a life of it's own.

I dislike that most online training classes are sooooo BORING!!!!! You would think that some of them would be more interesting, but noooooo.... Now, however, I have to finish this class by the beginning of October. ~shudders~ I may OD on Sweet Tea at this rate. Does anyone have any Jolt Cola around? ~GRINS~

I think both sides get it both barrels, and sometimes one side gets treated better than the other. The only common denominator is that whatever will make the most outrageous story will get publicly covered.

Example: In the UK, they released papers showing plans to attack Iraq before 9/11. These papers were available in the US- however, on the same day, Michael Jackson was acquitted. Which one did you hear about? Who did that help?

Example: During the whole upsurge in oil prices, democrats pointed fingers at Republicans and claimed they wanted ot lower costs. So they created a bill to do it. In this bill, the only change was billions of dollars in tax cuts for the Oil companies- and the Dems were the leaders in doing this. But no one is bringing it up now that they are accusing the Republicans again. Who does that help?

The media sucks. More than the politicians.

Luke Fleeman wrote:

Gotta disagree with you there. It is the media's job to sell things. It is not a politicians job to sell us out. More shame to our current political landscape in my eyes.

This is an old rant, but still a good rant.

I hate the fact that the State of Oregon has mandated that pseudoephedrine can only be purchased via a prescription. This means I have an insane amount of sinus pressure that is just making me miserable (and cranky). A minimum of a $25 co-pay (if I have insurance) so I can buy $5 worth of medicine. WTF?

Still not as bad as my friend, who got it so bad that his inner ears decided to hemorrahge because of the pressure.
