You know what would be great?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

In my campaign I use gnolls quite a bit, including one inspired by the Fiendish Gnoll from an article oon the WotC site.An article with ideas on how to make these savsge humanoids more fearsome (i.e. racial feats, prestige classes, magic items,
et al.)would be pretty fantastic. What do you think?

Apparently, waaaaay back in issue #63, there was an article entitled "The Humanoids" written by Roger E. Moore that covered cultures & religion for gnolls, but it was for 1st Edition. I would be interested to see if anyone can come up with an "Ecology of" for the Gnolls.

that article was where the shoosuva originated. :)

Indeed it was. I netted it in my first round of D&D demon research about a decade ago, which is why we included it in Maure Castle (Dungeon #112). Speaking of that adventure, it has a lot of really interesting gnoll encounters that might be used as a springboard for development of the race, and Dragon has (in ancient times) done ecologies for the gnolls and flinds that are worth a look.

Incidentally, WotC's old Chainmail line had a number of really excellent gnoll miniatures that you can probably find pretty cheap somewhere out on the internet.
