Drizzt class levels

Off-Topic Discussions

He is listed as Ftr 10/Bbn1/Rgr 5. So, presumably he was Ftr 10 when he left Menzo and became a barbarian. According to the books, he survived alone in the Underdark for 10 years. It doesn't really make sense that he only has one Bbn level. There was a huge amount of XP in the books alone, never mind the stuff that wasn't treated. That bugs me.

In one of my books, i forget which one, they have Drizzt at 20+level of Ranger. Seemed good to me. As far as your comment goes, i couldnt agree with you more. I personally would have given Drizzt a Fighter level of at least 10 and the rest into Ranger. Thoughts anyone?

After thinking on this further, this is what i would give Drizzt as a 25th level character:
8 levels of Fighter (trained by his pa)
8 levels of barbarian (from those 10 years he lived in the underdark
8 levels of Ranger (earned after being trained by the blind Ranger)
1 level Paladin (seems Salvatore is going this route--especially after the encounter in the mountain cave when Wulfgar was returned. I dont care for him to go that route.)
Even though the class levels can be argued, i believe one can make a good argument on the classes. Another possibility would be 10,10,4,1. My 2 cents. Any and all feedback is appreciated. This could be interesting.

The more I think about it, the more I think he should have some serious epic level stuff goin on. I stopped reading the new books in '92 or '93, but I read that he and Catti-Brie finally ended up together. That is kind of gross, since they met when she was like 11 and he was 60 or something. I generally have no problem with interracial dating, but come on. Ew! That is like a Celine Dion-Renee thing. What a perv. RA Salvatore, I'm ashamed (the dreadful prose was bad enough).

If they do ever get together(obviously i havent read as far as you), i think currently(where i am at in my reading) she is mid to late 20's and he is about 60. Thanks for the spoiler, by the way. So what are your thoughts concerning Drizzt's "epic level stuff?" i am curious.

First off . . . novels are novels. You can roughly equate classes, levels, and abilities, but its not possible to go through and say . . . "well, he gained 3000 xp in that chapter."

One of the things I like about 3.5 is that once you hit a certain level, you get NO experience points for things that are way beneath you. Even a 10 level fighter/1st level barbarian with a +2 level adjustment, i.e. effectively a 13th level character in the Underdark is going to run into a lot that they either don't get any experience for or very little. What you read about in the books is usually the notable things, not the common day to day things.

Even once he was on the surface, those yetis and the like really weren't giving Drizzt many levels. Only his fights with dragons, demons, and Artimis would award him anything.

Just something to keep in mind.

KnighterrantJR I think you are wise. And probably right about the drizzt thing to. Speaking of Drizzt do you think R.A Salvatore will write any more books about Drizzt or do you think he is gonna keep going with this Cadderly thing?

It seems like he still wants to resolve some things. I've read soem interveiws where he noted that he does want to write the party getting back together and looking for Gauntylgrym, but that he also wanted a break. He's got the Road of the Patriarch scheduled for next year, and I doubt there will be another FR book from him next year, so we likely won't see a new Drizzt full scale novel until 2007.

I like the Artimis and Jarlaxle pairing, myself, and I think he does need the time off of Drizzt. While I won't go into Drizzt bashing mode that I see a lot of people go into, I do think he is starting to run aground a bit with his ideas for the characters. I would actually be interested in seeing the next set of novels be split up among the characters . . . one book that only features Bruenor and Regis, one that focuses on Catti-brie and Wulfgar, and another that focuses on Drizzt and Innovindil, but from what he said at most we may see some short stories to that effect rather than full scale novels.

He is doing a short story in the Realms of Elves anthology coming out in February that features the gang as well as the new weilder of Khazad-hea, so that may be worth checking out for your Drizzt fix.
