Age of Worms Adventure Path

I'm curious to know people's opinion on how long the adventure path would take in game time . . . weeks, monthes, years . . .

From the time they first step into the Whispering Cairn to the point where the Prince of Redhand sacrifices himself . . .

any thoughts?

I am keeping track, with the Greyhawk calendar. So far, about 20 days has passsed since the characters entered the mine managers office, until they are about to meet up with Allustan about Dourstone Mine.

It had better take AT LEAST a year. I'm really not down with the "Level from 1 to 20 in 90 days or your money back!" deal that a lot of D&D games have a tendency to go for. Lots of NPCs spend years upon years travelling the world and gaining experience and they have yet to hit double digits. To say that the PCs are somehow so special that they manage to power level and save the world in a matter of months is a bit silly. I'll be encouraging my PCs to rest regularly and make magic items, build a fortress, something like that.

I think there is a balance. Players are not npcs. They ARE special. The world is there for them. It isn't realistic to believe that they go from level 1 to level 20 in a week, but still, given an epic campaign of battle after battle, players should be able to advance more quickly than npcs that have not dealt with the same epic level of action.

Air, that's the exact reason I'm asking this. I also don't ascribe to the "get XP quick scheme".

I was thinking mainly because when I start the AoW AP, I plan on implementing the Ebberon conversion and I want to keep track of the planar calander.

I would think that nearly a month for the whispering cairn is pretty good.

The more I read about the AP, the more I like it.

My PCs have spent about a week in the Cairn and they haven't even finished Lair of the Architect yet. Right now they're back in town grieving the loss of one of the NPCs.

Age of Worms doesn't have a timeline, unlike the last several adventures in Shackled City. Although we present the adventures in a way that assumes that the PCs do nothing outside of the adventures, there's nothing to say that "Whispering Cairn" can't take a month, or that the party can't spend a year in the Free City (even though there are only two adventures set there in this Adventure Path). Feel free to let the adventures unspool at a rate you are comfortable with.

Of course... some of the specific adventrues will be on schedules; "The Champion's Belt" takes place over the course of 5 days, for example, since that's how long the Champion's Games last. Still, there's a little stuff before and after the games in that adventure, so you can even stretch this one out.

I personally don't have any problem at all with PCs going from 1st level to 20th level in a year or even in a few months. What annoys me more about "rush adventures" that don't give any concession toward down-time is that characters who invest feats in Item Creation or characters that want to research spells or otherwise interact with the game world won't have time to do so because it's always "GO GO GO!"

And if they did not have all the adventures out in a year then all they would hear from everyone is "WHEN is the NEXT AOW COMING OUT " so i feel for the staff it a no win situation with you guys lol.....besides there are no rules saying all the adventures are ment to be in a fast moving pase just a few take the down time as need modify it to your campaign be the DM.

I know I'll be keeping track of my campaign by making players keep notes as they see fit and maybe jotting down quick recaps from their character's perspective. I intend to follow the Calendar of Harptos to a T, so every day that passes will count for some reason or another...

It starts in a week for me... I figure the Whispering Cairn's segments can probably be split into three sessions due to the fact that my group can only meet up for about 3 hours at a time. : ( (I frown at the short game sessions, of course, not taking forever on one part of the adventure path.)

What's a Calendar of Harptos?

The calender of Harptos is the standard calender for the Forgotten Realms.

Has anyone ever made an Eberron Calendar?

There used to be a planar calendar on Wizards.com, check out the eberron section, it might still be there. I think it's sort of what you're looking for but it doesn't look like a conventional calendar.

Yeah, I have the planar array. I was just wondering if anyone ever converted that into an actual conventional calendar.

I'm just now getting ready to start the Shackled City and looking forard to AoW in the future. I've got plans to insert several small side quests and some not so small quests that make sense for the party to get involved in and end up lengthening the overall duration of the campaign.

I understand that the path is written without intended interruptions, but that doesn't mean you can't do it if it meets the needs of you or your party. Creativity is the name of the game. The adventure path is not necessarily inviolate.
