Shackled City Adventure Path

I have a question for those of you who have run test of the smoking eye. it says that the nexs dose 4d8 negative engery to anyone who touches it no matter what the alighment. Kaurophon is not undead this has the potental of taking him down past 1\2 his HP. How did people deal with this did you just not pay attentino to it did you just do minimn dagge? because if you acctuly give him the damge this makes him a much quicker kill

Remember - Kaurophon has been to Occipitus before and probably knows about the Nexus of Evil; he likely will reserve a healing spell just for this occasion and be willing to take the damage to boost his abilities.

The alternative is that he does not know about it; if so, he may not try to deliberately touch the flames, but the stats are there in case he does inadvertently.

In my game, the party should reach that encounter in a few sessions; I plan to have Kaurophon touch the flames "by accident" in preparation for the big fight (since he's horribly outnumbered by the party by 12:1 anyways, I gave him a wand of Cure Crit. Wounds in anticipation of the damage...)

...I hope none of my players reads this thread (if they do, I better not find out!)

Only one of my players is an acctive web DND guy and he knows about this board and i told him to stay off of it.. he promised and so i don't worry about it. I have also told my players to please stay away from this site ingernearl and any AP material and they are cool with that.

As for the 12 Vs 1 i recomend giving him a few more HD or leves or mabye even givng him a gastalt level because that is way to many people to fight him. I was thinking of making sure that he had a way to cure himslef i was acctualy thining of giving him the feat from librus mortus that alows him to be healed by negative energy and to be infliced by positve engery... not sure yet...

thanks for your thoughts dose anyone else have any good ideas??

Have him implore the assistance of the party's cleric to heal him, just like the cleric is healing all the other PCs in the party, once the fight is over.

After all, that's one less spell avaialble to the PCs when it comes time to stab them in the back.

that's good like that... keep in around for the lich fight have him do a few magic missles at stuff (not like MM will be very affective in the big fight with the PC's) have him try and attack the lich in the fire and ask for some healing... howeve i will need a back up plan just in case... so my back up will probaly be a few cure potions...nice andorax i like that one

I've intended to have Kaurophon bull-rush the enemy in that room out of the flames, giving him ingratiation to the party, as well as letting him touch the flames in the process. Since doing so will then make it possible to defeat said enemy, asking the party for healing is quite a viable solution.

And if he fails, so much the better. :)

that's good... Let the lich summon bunches of monsters then have kaurophon bull rush threw the flame knocking the lich out earing the partys repsect and healing and at the same time making him powerful enought to destroy the part and they just gave up on healing spell (or more) thanks! i think i might use that..

Good call. One of my PCs tried to bull rush the lich and she died because of the 6 levels lost (she was already low on HP). Kaurophon tried the same thing with telekinesis. Once the combat was over, he touched the flames "on a hunch" and took the damage, then asked the cleric in the party to heal him, which she did - amusing because she actually said (out of character) "I'm worried he's going to stab us in the back, but okay." Of course the very next encounter, he stabs them in the back.

Two of the five PCs died in this encounter, but they had a lot of fun doing it.
