Locations in Cauldron

Shackled City Adventure Path

I have recently started running the Shackled City, and am now faced with a frustration. It is a frustration expressed in several different ways in several different message threads...there is no description of the setting itself. Instead, things are spread piecemeal through the adventures, which means that you need to know where things are written up. Specifically, I'm looking at the map in issue 111, and I see the following list of locations marked on the map. I've filled in what I know about locations, and have no problems creating a character and or location on the fly, but I don't want to duplicate effort, nor do I want to flesh out a location only to find it's key to something future and different than my vision (thus -creating- more work for myself to tweak the adventure further).

So, I was hoping those of you who had run and/or read the series already could help fill out the following information on the locations. I've personally only run Life's Bazaar, and am prepping for Flood Season. Beyond that, I've done nothing more than a cursory flip through the adventures to scan for this info, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

1: Town Hall, first on map in #97, described ???
2: Barracks, map #97, described ???
3: Church of St. Cuthbert, map and descr #97

Weird coincidence, I am ramping up to run in the New Year and had knocked several tables together correlating NPCs and where ther are at (inclduing their advancement over time). I was going to knock togther an Access database. I scanned the map of Cauldron and have been cutting out the various locales as .jpegs (a bit like the old Volo's Guide to Waterdeep maps). I might knock a interactive web page together (I still intend to get a web site with forum up and running to support the campaign). My point is if anything ineteresting appears here I'll include it and make it freely availble for others when I am finished.

Craig Shannon (and all),

I am running the Shackled City adventure path and would be interested in any material you put together. I have been gathering and creating my own info to keep continuity going. As I have not collected all the DUN issues, I don't have all resources/areas/NPCs etc. mapped out. Any work you do, and others, would be of great help. Perhaps I may even be able to assist.

I just started running Life's Bazaar and I ran into this problem too. I just got all the AP issues and I'm starting to discover more info about Cauldron itself.

For example, while investigating the kidnappings, they wanted to go to a seedier bar to ask around. I told them about the Tipped Tankard (without really knowing what type of tavern it was) and created a discription of it, etc.

In one of the next sessions, I printed out the Web Enhancement with the list of kidnap victims and gave it to them. One of the players was more perceptive than I was and noticed that one of the victims worked as a barkeep at the Tipped Tankard. Oops.

Hopefully I can hold off on introducing important places until they actually become relevant in the AP.

No worries, my players want me to start very soon, as in preliminary group get together next Wednesday, with 1to1s over this weekend for character background. I'll be working my arse off, I have the base data in Word and Excel (and thus Access really), but a wizzy web site will have to be a work in progress. I'll try and sort out some web space tommorrow so at least people can have my notes, otherwise I'll use IIS6 to set my PC up as a file server (although my ISP may get stroppy).

Craig Shannon (or any others),

You mentioned you were compiling (much needed) DM information AND that you might be willing to share that information. Have you been able to collect things into a share-able form? Can you gives us a looks? :-)

I don't know what I can do to thank you for your hard work but a "Hurray!" and a virtual pat on the back <V pats C on the back> but if there is something any of us other DMs can do to assist, I am sure I (or they too) would be glad to help out. (I don't have all the issues in the AP yet, so take it easy on me, ok?).

Thanks.

V

Craig did you get your website off the ground?

The upcoming hardcover of the Shackled City Adventure Path campaign has brief descriptions of all the keyed locations on the map of the city. Most of them don't go into much detail, but at least the'll be something to spur the imagination more than simply an establishment's name.

Hmmm, in which case I'm going to have to wait until the hardback arrives sometime in July and incorporate it's content to my musings and then adapt and delete my scribbles as required. Then I might be in a stable state to post whatever I've collated to help with running for general consumption.

Bummer, Dude. I was hoping that the hardcover would include some more detail of the city. But hey, I'm gonna buy it anyway, it was such a great run.
