Chapter 1: "Burnt Offerings"
by James Jacobs
The Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path begins in the small coastal town of Sandpoint. In a time when rumors of rampaging dragons and massing armies of giants have everyone on edge, the people of Sandpoint eagerly anticipate the coming festival to commemorate the consecration of a new temple. Yet, at the height of the ceremony, disaster strikes. A band of goblins assaults Sandpoint, and it falls to the heroes to defend the new temple.
In the days that follow, a mysterious malady that leaves its victims monstrously deformed and dangerously insane spreads through the town. The PCs must not only determine what’s causing this strange contagion, but also discover the sinister connection between the plague, the goblin attacks, and the emergence of a strange rune from an empire thought to be long dead.
This volume of Pathfinder also includes extensive details on the town of Sandpoint, several new monsters, and information on the mysterious ancient empire of Thassilon, whose cruel and despotic rulers may not be as dead as history would have us believe.
For characters of 1st to 3rd level.
Pathfinder is Paizo Publishing's 96-page, perfect-bound, full-color softcover Adventure Path book printed on high-quality paper that releases in a monthly volume. Each volume is brought to you by the same staff which brought you Dragon and Dungeon magazines for over five years. It contains an in-depth Adventure Path scenario, stats for about a half-dozen new monsters, and several support articles meant to give Game Masters additional material to expand their campaign. Because Pathfinder uses the Open Game License, it is 100% compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world's most popular fantasy roleplaying game.

Due to a mix up, I was very late in getting this, the first Adventure Path. But I have to say it plays like a dream; my players are hooked. Check out my full review: Burnt Offerings
The alternate cover becomes very useful from the get go. The figure standing there with the flaming glaive is mentioned in this book and many others of the series. Get it while you can.
I am currently running a 4th lvl party through this adventure, tweaked with nastier bulked up enemies of course, it is a solid, well thought out run. This path will likely keep my party on the edge of there chairs for many sessions.
I haven't read it but I'm playing in it on a pbp and having a lot of fun. Cool twist on goblins, and a quasit that JUST WON'T DIE!!!
I hate quasits now.
Good times!!!
I would assume (always dangerous) that if there are any left after Gen Con, they will be offered for sale. The alternative is to just keep them (or throw them away, I suppose), and that's a big waste of product.
Now that WotC has announced they are going to a 4th Edition ruleset in 2008, will the Pathfinder campaign be converting too, or starting off in V3.5? Personally, I wouldn't mind if it stayed in V3.5 the entire series. There's quite a few of us not to happy about yet another ruleset change.

The first two Adventure Paths will be 3.5 (even though 4th edition will be out before the second one ends). Beyond that, we have not yet made any decisions.

Anything left after the show—and we do plan to have some left—will be offered for sale after we get back.
Cool! Will you be able to get those signed?
Good question. That's what I'm wondering.
It's cool that there's a chance (other than eBay) to get the alternate cover for those of us who can't make it to GenCon, but signed copies would be even cooler.
The only thing different about this version is the cover image on the front and the ISBN/UPC on the back. So there's not a lot of point in a PDF version....
It was B&W for everyone in the first one. It was supposed to be a sepia tone, but there was a communication error and it was left B&W. See Pathfinders #2 and up for the standard format for that section.

By the way, we have fewer than 75 copies of this cover left. And when it's gone, it's gone!
I received my first edition of the pathfinder adventure path and I must say, AWESOME! The color and quality of content is far superior to any other module I have ever seen. And for the price it is truly a bargain.
We have fewer than 100 copies each of 1, 3, 5 and 6 right now, but unlike this special cover, we will probably reprint those. (2 has been out of stock for a while, but the reprint should be arriving any day.)
