New Pathfinder Tales novel is here!

Being the stranger in a strange land is the stage for an epic tale, and Dave Gross returns with the characters first introduced in Hell's Pawns in their second novel together, Master of Devils!

The half-elven aristocrat Count Varian Jeggare and hellspawned bodyguard Radovan have journeyed to the far eastern lands of Tian Xia, and like any good adventuring duo, have immediately landed themselves in a heap of trouble. Circumstance forces the duo apart, and Jeggare must uncover an imperial mystery while undercover at a monastery. Meanwhile, Radovan is trapped and held hostage by the feared Quivering Palm attack and forced to learn the secret of defeating a legendary opponent by his new malicious master.

In a tale worthy of Master Li and Number Ten Ox, Count Jeggare and Radovan reunite at the head of a conflict as ancient as the exotic lands they find themselves in, a journey that will take them to the Gates of Heaven and Hell and against the Master of Devils!

Scarab Sages

twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
blinded by me you cant see a thing
just call my name 'cuz I'll hear your scream
Master! Master!

Nice reference. Great album.

Invoking the names of Master Li and Number Ten Ox must mean that this is some great story-telling and fantastic adventures, Bridge of Birds is one of the best fantasy novels ever.

I'd like it better if our two heroes met up with the Golarion version of Judge Dee myself, but your idea is exceedingly cool too.

When I saw the new Judge Dee movie (sadly after I'd finished writing the book), my immediate reaction was that Andy Lau should play Count Jeggare.

You've got a pretty good chance of that if it ever does make it to film. For some reason Chinese and British actors will be in just about anything as long as there is a paycheck involved. For instance, I could have paid Michael Caine or Anthony Hopkins $20 and either would have typed that last bit for me.

They've fallen into the nasty habit of wanting to eat regularly?

I've read both, and without giving too many spoilers, I'll say Master of Devils reminded me more of the third Master Li novel, Eight Skilled Gentlemen, and a bit of E. Hoffmann Price's The Devil Wives of Li Fong.

All recommended.

It wasn't an insult, merely an observation. I'm not teenager anymore so I realize that people need to make money. I see certain actors and actresses (mostly French and American, but that's just what I see) who will only take "important" or "edgy" rolls and lots of Chinese and British actors don't seem to share that pretention.
