The magma themed expansion we need, that Perils did not need to be

4/5

Sorry for the long rant, but here goes...

I was so thrilled with the Darklands starter set that I ordered both this expansion and the Darkland Perils expansion. Both of them arrived today, and I have some concerns. Both of these include 24 tiles like normal, for a total of 48 images, all of which are gorgeous... But of the 48 images in that other Darkland Perils set, fully 20 of them involve lava/magma. Given that we have an entire other expansion set here that's devoted just to magma & lava hazards in the Fire Caves set, I fail to see why it was necessary to devote so much of the Perils set to the very same thing. Many of those tiles could have been used for some other image...for instance, two of them (and only 2) in the Perils set have caves with mysterious crystal formations. Couldn't we have gotten more of those, or some other varieties of hazards, instead of so much magma when there was a separate "magma-centric" set also planned? Also, two of those magma hazard images in the Perils set (tiles# 13A and 23A) have the EXACT SAME art. They're the IDENTICAL image. I suppose you can still set them end-to-end and use both tunnel sections, but this seems like a rather lazy move and your players will notice it. I'd rack it up to a simple error, but the VERY SAME THING happens in this Fire Caves expansion: tiles# 01A and 17A in this set are the EXACT same cave tunnel with the exact same pool of magma, duplicated on both tiles.

Are these issues just a cost saving dodge? If so, it's very much at OUR expense given that I paid about $40 total for both of these, not to mention the starter set itself. (That said, I *am* a Paizo fan and hope these issues will disappear in future releases.)

I don't know about this.
Why were there any lava tiles in the "Darklands Perils" set, when there is a full "Lava set" coming?

This seems like not enough planning took place.
The Darklands are more than caves & lava.

Please make some Darklands buildings next!

Meh,

I'm going to repeat myself here, as this doesn't sound exciting at all:

"So after trying to use the Dungeon tiles to build a Castle, Castle and Tower tiles are 100% needed and should be next, I wasn't able to build the round towers in the castle map I was trying to create. These are the next likely places for characters to go after what you have here.

"You should also have instructions in your APs on how to use these tiles to create the dungeon I feel like there's a huge disconnect between the APs and maps. People that buy APs want maps that match. Not maps that aren't really usable in the APs at all. If I'm running an AP, I'm looking for anything that makes my life as a DM easier."

There are already enough lava tiles in Darklands Starter Set + Darklands Perils. I pre-ordered two copies of the Perils expansion, but ended up purchasing just one; I just didn't see any need for so many lava tiles.

I wonder if there is a Darklands themed AP (that features lots of lava and fire) in the works, there's just no other reason I can come up with to justify so many "lava + caves" type of products.

Not sure where to post product ideas for the Flip-Tile line, so here we go, uncategorized internet splatting!!

A High Seas set of flip tiles would be great!

Tiles could be:
-Open Water
-Shorelines
-Shipwrecks hung up on rocks
-Rocks near shore.. you know, just a few set into "open water" that you can place near a shoreline tile
-Docks
-Small Boats
-Ships that are made up of multiple tiles, of various sizes

Expansion sets could be:
-A couple larger/modular ships of various types - the old Map Pack line had a few of these, so updating them to the far more versatile Flip-Tile format would be great. Maybe even a "ship of the line" type ship, with tiles for different decks within the ship
-Remember Waterworld, that old Kevin Costner movie? We need "atolls" like in that movie.. ramshackle floating structures made of old boats lashed together.
-"underwater" stuff... reefs, sunken wrecks, etc.

Are there plans for any ice-themed tile sets? Or desert tile sets? I know there's the map packs but I've kind of bought into the tile system which is a different size (6x6) and it's hard to fit the map packs with them.

Thanks for the sample art!

Sadly, it confirms that this is not for me, even if only one side of 15 tiles are shown and there are 24 double-sided in the set, so 33 more are unknown.

I have to agree, please start being more proactive in showing the correct art in a timely manner, when you dont you lost customers trying to buy these things.

Just bought the starter and the perils expansion but, i'm not very tempted by this one... need to see all the tiles, because those we see, aren't convincing me to get this set...

Great question. I too wanted some desert tiles, and ended up getting the older 8" x 5" map pack of them as well as a Classics flip-mat desert map. All of the above are useful, but you might try looking into the Wildernest Starter Set. Among the various wilderness settings in it, some of those map tiles are desert settings. That set also has an expansion pack of 24 tiles called Wilderness Perils or something like that (unfortunately, since this is one of my FAVORITE starter sets and it deserves more expansions) which includes a few ominous desert tiles, like sandstorms.

Great idea! Sorry to be a broken record, but this sounds like a great idea to be included as another expansion to the Wilderness Starter Set, since (to my knowledge) that starter set only has 1 expansion available.
