From the ashes of Thassilon, an ancient power rises!
The friends, fiends, and foes of the Pathfinder Adventure Path: Shattered Star invade your gaming table with Pathfinder Battles: Shattered Star, the brand new Pathfinder Battles prepainted miniatures set from Paizo Publishing and WizKids Games!
The opportunity lost on this mini is so obvious. It should have been sculpted a lot flatter. This is a pile and a useless one at that. Had it been flat I could place it in the same square as my other minis and thus it would have looked like a swarm. Sad fail.
1.) A grub swarm was never going to be the best looking miniature anyway, just by nature of being a grub swarm.
2.) If one was to make a grub swarm mini, perhaps it would have been a good idea to make it flat, so that it can use the swarm mechanics.
3.) Last I checked, a grub swarm takes up a 10'x10' area, which makes me wonder why this mini is on a small base.
Ugly mini, mechanically useless, and doesn't accurately reflect the creature portrayed. Shattered Star is overall a great set, but this mini is poop from a butt.
For sure, it's not the most interesting mini in the set, and it doesn't need to be. It is still decently executed. It looks like you imagine a heap of grubs to look like.
My main complaint is the incompatibility of this mini with the swarm mechanics in the game. Swarms enter the squares of other creatures during combat. But the shape of this mini makes it impossible to fit it into a square with another creature.
I hoped for another solution, like encasing it into a clear plastic cube or cylinder that other minis can be placed upon. Or maybe just another shape that makes placement on the mat easier.
As it is the five swarms I got will get at most a very short time on the mat before they are replaced by dry erase lines that outline the swarms position. Which makes me wish I had gotten four other minis in my case instead of the multiples.
