On tabletops across the world, the Flip-Mat Revolution is changing the way players run their fantasy roleplaying games! Why take the time to sketch out ugly scenery on a smudgy plastic mat when dynamic encounters and easy clean-up is just a Flip away?
Have to agree with the reviewer below. I think the shoreline map in this one is simply brilliant. There is just enough of both land and sea to run an effective encounter using both terrains. The other side doesn't look like a battle map, without the small hut to indicate that it is designed for miniatures use you could be excused for thinking it was a scale map of a much larger island.
I've added a preview image that reflects the finished product.
(As soon as the art staff gets a chance—hopefully in a few weeks—we'll be going through all of our Flip-Mat listings and adding full preview images of both sides of each map.)
Josh is out of the country right now so he can't answer, but he has a habit of being very efficient in using Paizo resources like this in Society scenarios.
The first encounter for the Serpent's Skull Adventure Path does indeed take place on a beach—the beach side of this flip mat is more or less designed for that encounter (although we didn't have room to reprint that map inside the adventure itself, alas...).

Nice! The whole island could either be used as a small island at 5' scale or a larger island at a different scale using little pirate boats or something for tactical encounters. Sweet.

I look at this and think... 5 foot crater? Of course that's wrong... look at the trees right?
It's hard to tell because the thumbnail is so small. There's that little building down there... it just doesn't look right next to the tiny volcano.
So what's the scale?
I don't believe any of our Flip Maps have ever listed a scale you HAVE to use them at - that's really up for you to decide (who are we to say you can't use Flip Mat: Dungeon as a giant's lair with a scale of 20 ft per square?). When we design these, though, we typically assume 5-foot squares. That makes the pirate isle an easily overlooked little hideaway, and its smoking geyser just that. If you want to want to turn that geyser into an honest volcano fit for tribal sacrifices and heathen rituals, totally feel free to spin your stories that way and employ the map however works best for you.
