In the devil-worshiping nation of Cheliax, crime is a strangely slippery concept, and those with money and power tend to make the rules. Yet when aristocrat detective Pathfinder Varian Jeggare and his devil-blooded bodyguard Radovan are drawn into a series of noble murders, it quickly becomes clear that there's more afoot than simply someone settling old scores. Add in a zealous Hellknight law-keeper with a chip on his shoulder, and not even the heroes are safe from suspicion. Can the crime-solving duo delve into the city's seedy underbelly and uncover the culprit in time to stop the murders, or will their next public appearance be writhing on the executioner's tines in the Plaza of Flowers?

Reading Dave Gross' advice on which order to read about the two characters I started with this. And what can I say - I'm impressed. The short story took me by storm, and now I'm only waiting for the next novel lands in my snail mail box ;-)
After reading Prince of Wolves and Master of Devils, it was terrific to read another story about these two, especially one that takes place in their home base of Egorian. Great stuff!
I bought this epub and converted it to .mobi using Calibre for my kindle. Worked fine with no errors.
I really enjoyed this short story from David Gross. It is all told from Radovan's perspective and is a great lead-in to "The Lost Pathfinder" novella. Theres a good amount of mystery and excitement here with an emotional ending. Highly recommended.

I appreciate all these great reviews for "Hell's Pawns." If you liked it and haven't tried "Husks" yet, please do. I think the latter story is better in almost every way.
And if you've ready any other Pathfinder Tales shorts or novellas but haven't posted a review yet, please consider taking a few minutes to post one. There are some great stories in the line with no reviews yet.
It is not available in print (apart from its original appearance as serial chapters in the Council of Thieves AP books), but you are welcome to have your purchased copy printed nicely at a copy shop.
