I took a quick perusal through Google images and didn't find anything relevant, but if you give me a couple days I should be able to get a worthwhile sketch together.
As soon as I get something together I'll upload it to the character portraits folder on Yahoo.

this one too old?

this one's gnome-ish

... so's this one

this one may work?

...and these aren't bad...

my favorite -- rogue-ish, but i can 'shop it to look sorcerer-y

ultimately, you might just want a head shot, right? more choices there... good luck! (...and see ya on the other side.)

fangess watches the two men from the shadows...:
it is purely coincidental that she happens to be here, and here she needs to remain silent and motionless. the abandoned warehouse provides ample nooks and crannies to conceal a stealthy body.

"...and you have the list of hits?" one says to the other.

"it's right here. you have the poison darts?" he hands over a folded parchment and retrieves a small metallic box in return. "you are certain these are the gargoyles' teeth?"

"i am one of the few who can authorize their use. make sure you leave the evidence, but don't make it too obvious..."

"just do your job and i'll do mine! the names on that list: they will all be there tonight. the toast will be at nine bell... that night scales venom must be mixed in just right before and no sooner. its efficacy is very brief, but the potency is fatal. that formula is exclusively night scales'. they will be implicated without a doubt."

"by the time they figure it out, we'll be... wait! what was that? did you hear that?" the two men stop dead, each drawing his weapon.

fangess curses under her breath. why now! her stomach churns again and a sharp growling sound echoes in the dead silence. should have eaten something!

the two men attempt to vacate. they charge directly into each other out of sheer bad luck, knocking each other off their feet.

fangess takes the opportunity to vacate the inopportune situation, having heard too much. she hops the boxes and exits the nearby window, clamoring up towards the rickety roof. she begins to rush across the length as quickly and quietly as possible. half way, her instincts tell her to stop; the footing doesn't feel right just about... here! before she can react, the surface gives and drops from under her feet. as she falls through, she sees a gaping hole in the ceiling, affording the a view of the starry night.

she hears a loud crash and her back feels like it has been slammed by an ogre, knocking the breath from her. fangess's vision dims and the warehouse falls deeper into darkness.

fangess comes to. how long have i been knocked out? she feels around in the darkness and her hand touches a metallic box. she instinctively grasps and shoves it in her belt pouch. she can hear voices coming from outside and flickering torch light, slowly providing low light inside the warehouse. she reviews the scene: the roof had collapsed on the two men -- from their lack of movement, she can only come to one conclusion -- killing them. fangess notices some of the darts are scattered on the floor (the box must have come undone and spilled its contents). she sees a gargoyle's tooth sticking out from the leg of one the men.

the voices outside are agitated and getting closer, their torches and sunrods illuminating a large area immediately outside. fangess can see the warehouse's interior more clearly, having already been accustomed to the darkness. she spots a small opening from wood decay. she heads for it as the warehouse door crashes open; the warehouse is lit brightly. "there! i see someone!" a voice calls out. fangess limps to the hole and squeezes herself through. "it's a halfling and she's getting away!" she turns around to gauge her distance between herself and the men. through the hole she spots one of them picking up a parchment and opening it. "she's an assassin! get her!"

fangess feels the strain on her side as she runs through the thicket, often looking back and changing her direction away from the search lights. then suddenly, she does not feel the ground beneath her. she feels her body tumbling downward, crashing through debris and rough bumps. she ends up face down, her mouth full of sand. her body is charged with adrenaline and cannot feel any pain. she looks up and sees a ship in the distance. from the voices and activities, it is about to embark.

fangesss stumbles across the beach and wades into the water on the dark side of the ship. the anchor is being hoisted. she wraps her arm around it and clings tightly. after a moment, the ship begins to float outward, away from the bay. fangess wraps herself around the anchor, finding a good seating position. she gathers herself and takes a deep breath. she looks up and hear activity aboard. she decides to wait until it calms before sneaking aboard.

her heart continues to pound against her chest. fangess feels a sharp pain in her abdomen. fearing the worse, she feels around expecting blood, but instead, a metallic box presses between her weight and the anchor. she shifts her belt pouch and releases a breath of relief. the water splashes gently below her.

What on earth would you want to steal from goblins? *g* Other than that, I'd love to hear some more about her background.

oh, c'mon, this is 1st level pcs! we steal anything and everything -- esp. the rogues -- at less this one! (lol)

you want me to post her or rather i share with you directly somehow, more on her background?

Rotolutundro wrote:

Fangess sounds interesting, but 2 things:

1) To get the extra campaign feat she has to actually be from Varisia - it's not fully clear if she was from Cheliax? If you don't want the extra feat, she can be from wherever.

2) She has to have some reason to have been captured by goblins outside Sandpoint prior to the Swallowtail Festival, as that's where the party would meet her. Maybe she could have been traveling with Avelia for some reason?

she is varisian; went to cheliax, but decided not for her: wanderlust.

how you'd like to fit her into the current situation would be fine with me.

an idea: she tried to steal from the goblins. they caught and tied her hands, with whatever intentions they want to keep her captive. she breaks free and runs into party. if they are currently in battle, she breaks free, delivers a sneak attack, then joins a party to fight the goblins. (sleight of hand +9; escape artist +8; stealth +12).

A rogue would be nice, or a full arcane type. Other than that, I'm open to suggestion.

fangess ogrefell:
this halfling lass came to riddleport -- wanting to leave behind the chelish condescending attitudes of smaller folks -- the year before looking to join ranks with the night scales. through some mishaps and misunderstanding, she is now wanted by both the night scales and gargoyles for questioning.

finding it rather complicated to explain her side of the story without exposing her spotty past, and subsequently having to take sides, she decided to fake her death and board a merchant ship bound for sandpoint as stowaway. perhaps, she hopes, her anonymity and time with erase that brief endeavors in riddleport.

sandpoint sounds quaint and small enough for a halfling to escape notice -- or even disappear -- and sizable enough, she is sure, with ample purses needing to be liberated.

brief stats:

halfling younger female varisian rogue of chaotic neutral nature, but with one toe steeped in chaotic good. however, the inclination to dab in poison use often marks her are less than good -- although she has on occasions caused severe debilitation in "deserving" targets.

I'd like to get someone else to run another game every other week or something like that (so I'm not always DMing) but that can wait a little while if it has to. Anyway, post back and let me know if you're interested. Thanks.
Are you still looking?

if you're looking for a group, redcap's corner in ucity has a pathfinder game running every weds, 19h00-22h00. go to their website for details.

okay, folks, i am still gm'ing a pbp lof game, but it won't be here unfortunately. i am jumping ship -- and have prepared sail -- to myth weavers. the forum allows formatting and tools that is more aligned with my personal preferences/taste.

yes, i do realize i may lose interests from hard-core paizo pbp forum fans, but such is the way. sorry to those folks whom i may have led on.

now, without further ado, plz review the game profile carefully (you may find we aren't a good fit anyway, or my gm style is exactly what you're looking for :-D)

legacy of fire, book 1, pbp game recruitment (ends 07 sept 2011, 19:59 edt)

good luck, and let's see some good creativity and fiction!

this is dead.

just been told gm has new job and cannot do it.

waitaminute! i *do* know that there is a stats manager here! i created two aliases (lol). i will trust your judgment that the dicebot here is reliable. with these two things in place, the technical aspect is seamless then.

in regards to cheating, i give people the benefit of the doubt that they won't. i am one who likes to put the "law" out there so that there's no ambiguity, as a set of standards from which to adhere, then let the players self-regulate.

yes, the mapping and positioning may be the challenge yet, but i'm sure there is an efficient and favorable process out there. it's not as though pbp was invented yesterday :-P

i already have some ideas...

all right, then, expect a recruitment post sooner than later. maybe i can get this off the ground in a week's time depending on quality/quantity of candidates :-)

thx for the collective wisdom.

oic. yes, simple:
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

swortsword: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

so there is no way to fudge this? i tried to, but it seems to keep track of the username/rolls, so no matter how many times i rolled and then deleted the results, except for the roll i want to keep, it always shows me the first d20 result -- i can still adjust the modifier value. as a matter of fact, as an educated guess from my tests, if i were to roll 100 times, those rolls would be recorded and assigned to my username. so in essence, my pc would be predestined for the next 100 d20 checks (lol).

i even cleared my cache, history, etc... and the results are constant. the data is logged on the server, it seems. interesting.

idk. it may be ok.

in regards to the stats management, i use the point-buy system to keep a leveled playing field. i prefer stats not listed on forums, maybe it's the norm for pbp. idk.

i'll figure it all out how i'll want to manage all this... :-P

hmmm... i'm not aware of a dice-roller available here. plz post link so i can give it a spin.

in regards to myth weaver to manage pc stats, it's cleaner, which i prefer over the haphazard stats-in-post here -- one of the "sloppy" aspects i mentioned in prior post. unless, also, there is a stats manager here that i am not aware. post that link as well, if exists.

thx

all right-y... some good news:

- i started reading the material and am very excited about this ap. let's jump in head first, shall we?

- i have decided to limit the number of participants up to 6, a conventional full party. i still want to loosely use the 4e roles model (see posts prior).

- i concur to stay with pathfinder ruleset and related materials. (too much work to convert to 4e and doesn't seem the interest is there too even make it worthwhile).

- i'm continuing to research pbp forum hosts, but it seems there's a familiarity/comfort already among you to use this forum, so i may just make the best of it. in regards to dice-roller/stats management, i like invisible castle and myth weaver, respectively. agreements/thoughts?

so, let me get my ducks in a row, set up some logistics, and will post recruitment call with more info.

any other feedback on anything else is welcomed. thx

I must admit, I do like the PbP forums here. But these are the first I have actually seen and I had a look at the penny-arcade one and I just got confused. Although saying that, I would use any PbP forum that the GM felt comfortable using, but it may take me a while to get used to a new one.

i don't *hate* it :-1

just wanted see if there are other choices that may be better...

i do appreciate your feedback.

Faelar Braegen wrote:
So you want to use Pathfinder rules, but use the 4 categories from 4th edition? So where would you place a combat Bard in those 4 roles?

which do *you* think your combat bard may be roled? it depends on the nuances of your build and your intentions, no?

i supposed it would be a good start for the player when submitting a candidate pc to state the intention of its role. that would be one sure way of my *not* mis-assigning the role due to ambiguity. sounds fair?

speaking of 4e, is there any interest out there to play this ap converted to 4e?

in the meantime... i wonder if you'd care to share some feedback regarding pbp forum hosts...

i think the pbp forum here could use some interface redesign; i feel the formatting and styling a bit on the sloppy side. i prefer penny arcade's pbp forum -- check it out and let me know what you think:

http://forums.penny-arcade.com/categories/critical-failures
(peruse at the threads that have "(ic)" or "(occ)" or both in the title)

also, expose us to any other pbp forum hosts that you feel look good and has well-thought-out usability (most importantly colors-on-color as how they affect legibility).

like i said, good, honest folks, "there is no easy way to tell..." whether you've experienced this ap.

if you love the game, and your motives are to enjoy yourself and the company of others rp'ing, then i won't tell the gm if you don't.

maybe you should take a few ranks in bluff, is all i will say ;-)

great. glad to see flexibility and openness to my own reservations :-)

let me peruse the lof material. if it proves to be manageable, i may just dive in that head first (lol). i feel confident though as a seasoned gm that i can...

in the meantime, optimistically formulate a long-term pc for lof, and a back-up for a one-shot campaign. in terms of rounding out a party: although we will use the pathfinder ruleset (and related material), i want to loosely focus on the 4e roles model when choosing pcs: one each of defender, striker, leader, and controller.

that said, a generic, however pertinent, background story wouldn't hurt -- actually may increase your chance, as i'd like to gauge creativity and commitment (why else would gms read so much fluff by a bunch of random strangers! ;-D). this fiction may help me to string the party together, plot-wise, for the first session. more pc creation details to come...

don't post your candidates here -- not yet, anyway. curb your enthusiasm and keep an eye out: i will post a new recruitment thread within 48 hours.

important: there is no easy way to tell, but if we do jump into lof, i only want candidates who know nothing about the ap material except the lof player's guide (which you will use to generate your background fluff).

thx for your patience, and looking forward.

brahma henna, human female wizard (fluff):
dharma, brahma, and siva were at a graduation post-ceremony festivity. it was siva's -- the youngest of the three sisters -- graduating class. dharma (the oldest) was, as usual, acting out her maternal inclinations, being annoying and a wet blanket. brahma and siva, however, were boy-hunting. one particularly mesmerizingly handsome boy who seemed to have caught all the girls' attention. (in fact, regardless of the boys' preferences, he captured their interest too, especially those who were in close proximity to him). this charismatic resident minstrel was entertainment for the evening's festivities, and who happened to be brahma's crush.

as the night progressed, brahma was encouraged by siva to "get her man, once and for all!" so she did. mustering up the courage after a few drinks, brahma finally found herself alone with the bard (a feat in itself, as he was continually surrounded by fans and admirers alike). the bard had other plans for brahma: to add her to his harem -- a bloodthirsty one. using his charms and charisma as his main weapon, the bard played to the will of susceptible victims, isolating and converting them to vampiric thralls.

although victimized and "infected," brahma's body's own arcane constitution wrestled with the vampiric blood that surged through her, maintaining a level of non-vampiric state. the two forces continually exerted each others' supremacy, but neither could maintain dominance. brahma had no knowledge of this "infection," and it didn't manifest itself until she suffered a traumatic psychologically event. brahma witnessed a street skirmish between stern officials and religious zealots: the zealots marched in the street and, without precedent, declared a holy purging, setting off an arcane explosion, mass murdering civilians; they were then, in turn immediately paid in kind, slaughtered by "peace keeping" local militia forces. brahma was caught in the fray and was forced to use her arcane powers to protect herself -- an act which inadvertently killed many by-standers.

the smell of blood and sight of carcasses surged her vampiric inclinations, temporarily overriding the arcane energy that kept it in check. in a trance-like, blood-frenzied state, brahma went on a blood binge that same evening. using her arcane powers, brahma reenacted the scene of the earlier street massacre, creating battles with the seedy and less fortunate creatures of the night. the transformation became a regular event, where brahma often awoke the next day with only dreamlike visions of what had happened the night before. she actually came to believe she was cursed with having regular nightmares in which she killed and lusted for blood, even using her own blood to cause more pain to others.

unbeknownst to her own transformation, the switch had often occurred in times of stress or brahma having witnessed something gruesome. (she was once transformed when having made a wrong turn to the lavatory in a tavern, and instead ended up in the cold storage of recent and butchered kills).

the surreal dreamstates have become debilitating so brahma sought counsel. "the answer you seek..." the oracle spoke for the first time since brahma arrived in the seer's tent, "it is not in your blood, nor in your mind. it is with neither death nor life... it is with the undead child-god. your path ends there: mzali, in the land of the mwangi." with that, the oracle's eyes reverted back to their normal state, no longer white and devoid of irises.

thx for posting activities stats. sounds like the game is not for me: feels like a classroom with overwhelming students-to-prof ratio ;-D

i like it a bit more intimate, so i am retracting my candidacy. thx and have fun!

week-ends works best, but one evening a week works too. it there's a chance of a bi-weekly get-together, that would be ideal.
