Thanks!

Yeah, we were using the errata, though I wouldn't swear that we had it all right (thus the query). And yes, we forgot about the hero points until later. I keep forgetting that you get a new one each session, because somewhere I read that you only get it if you earn it. For the most part, I like the new dying rules, but it did just seem weird to me that a minor poison that only did 1 point of damage killed the character way faster than it would have in the PF1 system. Oh, well, we can't have everything perfect! Thanks for the clarification. :)

G'evening! My group just started a new campaign and decided to use PF2. We figured we'd have a lot of questions and this is our first one.

Tonight, we faced off against maggot-like-things that had a mild poison. One of the PCs was bitten by one and brought to 0 (dying 1). She immediately failed her fort save and took 1 point of poison damage (dying 2). On her next turn, she failed her con check (dying 3) and then failed the fort save for the second round of poison for 1 damage (dying 4). So, she went from conscious to dead in 1 round. I had thought that the new dying rules were supposed to help keep players from dying so quickly, so I wanted to make sure that we were doing it correctly. Is that how it should have worked?

(To clarify, I'm not complaining, just making sure we didn't screw something up.)

Hmm, this is a pretty interesting combo. Hadn't considered it. I have a pseudo-Dragon Disciple in my Ch. 1/4/7 DD party who is Sorc multiclassing Fighter, but this idea presents a whole different approach.

Thanks - I thought so! I've been playing around with the devoted feats because they allow me to consider remaking some 3.5 prestige classes that I hadn't been able to truly recreate in PF1. Namely, the daggerspell shaper (rogue/druid), the daggerspell mage (rogue/mage), the sacred fist (cleric/monk) and the enlightened fist (sorc/monk).

I have a strange question. I am playing around with a sorcerer with the dragon bloodline, but taking the devoted monk feat at level 2. How does the dragon claws power fit with the monk abilities? Can you use ki strike with dragon claws? Does the powerful fist ability increase the unarmed damage of the dragon claws? I assumed they would not be compatible, but dragon claws specifically says it is an unarmed attack, so now I'm not sure. Any ideas?

What about constructs? Are they considered creatures?

As the title says, I have some questions about Psychic Strike. The SRD says:

Psychic Strike (Su)
At 1st level, you can overwhelm the minds of those nearby. You can target one creature within 30 feet that you can see; that creature must succeed at a Will saving throw (DC = 10 + 1/2 your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier) or it takes 1d6 points of damage + 1 point for every 2 sorcerer levels you possess and becomes shaken for 1 round. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

1) Does it bypass SR?

2) Is it considered a mind-effecting affect? Are plants and undead immune to it?

3) And while we are comparing this to spells, does this provoke an AoO to use?

A few weeks ago...
Me: As you defeat the last demon, you take the time to look around and - why is there a chicken on the map?
Stacy : It's a minecraft chicken!
Me: ...

Tonight...
Me: The chicken is still here? Damn it, he needs a name.
Chris : Cluck!
Stacy: Fred!
Me: Fred McCluckins it is.

And that is how the heroes gained the aid of the faithful foul named Sir Fredrick McCluckins. All Hail Sir Fredrick McCluckins!

So yeah. Now we have a chicken with the party. He has a name, but I can't have a plain ol' chicken following around a party of level 12 mythic adventurers. So, I need your suggestions! I increased his size to small because of the miniature and I made him an advanced animal, but beyond that, I am open to suggestions. It should be fun and amusing, but not too tedious. Like maybe he's built so that he can run around bullrushing everyone and tripping them? That would be chicken-like, right? Ideas?

Good morning!

I'm playing in an epic campaign and my character is especially fond of the shapechange spell, which is a lot of work in a regular campaign, much less an epic one, so I've been trying to find ways to organize my information so I can easily reference it in game. To that end, I have created something which may or may not be of interest to the rest of you. I figured I'd share.

Shapechange Stat Changes!

It's an excel spreadsheet that calculates any stats that will change based on the bonuses of each spell. You just enter in your base stats on the first row, then find the spell and size that applies to your current polymorph. This allows you to use your default character sheet and just reference this spreadsheet for any adjustments to your ability scores, AC, saves, etc. The last three columns refer to adjustments to any skills based on those ability scores. If it says "1" in the dex column, then you would add +1 to any acrobatics rolls, etc.

The spreadsheet was built in office 365, so there might be formatting issues in other versions. It is intended to be printable on legal-sized paper, landscape.

Please note that this sheet uses ability score MODIFIERS, not the actual scores.

Ignore the "Outsider Form" options - it's a homebrew spell that my GM and I are still working on. Also, this sheet does not include anything that would be form-specific, such as abilities, attacks, special qualities, etc. For those, you'll need to pull up the actual creature's stat block.

Edit: I added a few columns for attacks. It was a bit more complicated because of the various play styles:

N-Dex: Natural Attacks w/ Weapon Finesse (uses Dex)
N-Str: Natural Attacks w/o Weapon Finesse (uses Str)
M-Dex: Melee attacks w/ Weapon Finesse & light weapon (uses Dex)
M-Str: Melee attacks w/o Weapon Finess or w/o light weapon (uses Str)
Range: Ranged attacks

You can hide any of those columns that you don't plan on using (ie, hide one of the Natural Attacks columns depending on whether you have Weapon Finesse or not). In many cases, Melee and Natural attack numbers will be the same, but not always (such as with an amulet of mighty fists), so I kept them separate. And remember that the melee attack values are your base attack values, without any weapon-specific bonuses, such as weapon focus or weapon enhancement bonuses.

Hmm... a good point. In this case, my character is staying behind as an undead because the goddess they are working for asked her to finish the mission. So it might make sense for there to be a ring that the other follower of said goddess can wear, which is effectively my character's anchor.

Thanks guys! I have a new question.

In order to supplement the fact that my character won't be benefiting from party treasure, I thought I'd give her the craft wondrous item feat. My question is... if a ghost crafts a belt of dex, for example, would that belt automatically be incorporeal?

And a secondary question. If she wants to make something that anyone in the party can use, I figured I'd use the ghost touch spell (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/3rd-party-spells/4-winds-fantasy-gaming---3r d-party-spells/ghost-touch) when crafting it. The question is... how would that affect the cost of the item?

LOL! Well, she's sort of the ghostly version of my last character, so her personality won't change too much. But I am kind of excited about the roleplay opportunities. Her lover died in the same fight, so the reason she is staying around as a ghost is to finish the mission that he couldn't complete (his player decided to make something new).

Now I just need to decide if it's worth taking the leadership feat to go with her dabbling in necromancy.

Thanks for the advice! I figure I have a huge advantage in that I like to use HeroLab, so some of the complicated issues are handled automatically.

I looked at armor and weapons and I'm actually thinking of bypassing both, because I'm silly.

Actually, as an Oracle of Bones, I get a +10 armor bonus to AC for 16 hours/day, so even the most expensive armor isn't going to do much better. I'll probably see about some rings of protection and/or amulet of natural armor, though.

As for weapons, my ghost's corrupting touch does a crazy 18d6 damage, so between that and spells, I'm not too worried about dishing it out. Besides, I'm the healer, and our GM plays hardball so I figure I'll be spending most of my time spamming heals anyway.

When you say ghost touch gauntlets, would those just be gauntlets that would let me use, say, metamagic rods?

Good morning!

Last night, my character died and the GM has allowed me to recreate her as a ghost rather than having her resurrected. She is a 16th level oracle (+2 CR with the ghost template). Her focus will be in both healing and necromancy - healing the party with cures, healing herself and fellow undead (which she can summon) with inflicts.

That said, I'm curious if anyone has any advice? For example...

1. Are there any magic items that would be especially useful as an incorporeal PC? (She has the Ghostly Trappings ability, so she can have up to her charisma in special items).

2. Are there any spells that are must-haves?

3. Are there any feats that are must-haves?

4. Are there any weaknesses that I should be aware of? I checked on turn undead, but it looks like she would get a will save, so I'm not too concerned there.

5. Are there any other tricks or suggestions that you may have?

Hmm... that makes sense, sort of. In the example I mentioned but didn't quote, it says:

"Example: Mark’s character is constructing a house, and he wants to acquire 1 point of Labor, which he plans to spend on the house’s construction requirements. He decides to use 1 day of downtime and pay 10 gp to earn the point of Labor, instead of paying 20 gp to purchase it outright. He immediately spends this 1 point of Labor on the construction requirements of the house. For roleplaying purposes, Mark states that he used the day to dig a foundation for his house, and spent the 10 gp on the tools and raw materials he needed to start the foundation."

So, wouldn't it make sense that though he earned 1 point of labor, he also worked 1 day towards his house, since he was physically working on the foundation? Maybe that's where part of my confusion comes from.

I'm kind of confused about the specifics of how to create a building using the downtime rules. In one example, it says:

"Suppose you want to spend downtime constructing a friendly traveler’s Inn. It needs a Bar so it can sell drinks, and a Kitchen so it can serve food. Guests need a place to eat and rooms to sleep in, so it must include a Common Room and a Lodging. To keep your guests’ horses safe, it must include a Stall. By adding up all the Goods, Influence, Labor, and Magic values in the Create and Time entries of the rooms’ stat blocks, you get a
total of 33 points of Goods, 3 points of Influence, 32 points of Labor, and 90 days. By spending that capital, after 90 days of construction time your inn is finished."

What I'm not sure I understand is the difference between labor and days of construction. If you spend a day of hard work to earn points of labor (as is described in the first example on page 78), isn't that the same thing? I mean, wouldn't labor reflect how much physical effort is required, how long it would take? It seems like if something required 32 points of labor and I could earn 1 point of labor each day, then I should be able to (if I had the other required materials), complete the building in 32 days. Or 2 of us could build it in 16 days.

I am totally missing something, aren't I? Help!

See, that's what I originally thought. I had a few monsters with scent and had figured they could smell him. But reading this thread, I'm getting the idea that that's not the case.

I'm currently up against this as well. I agree with WulfKrigan on the mythic true-seeing, though I might make a call that it depends on whether the person casting true-seeing must be of a higher tier than the one wielding the undetectable.

Here's another question - if being undetectable by any means means that you can't be heard, would that also meant that your allies can't hear you as part of a message spell? How about when everyone gets telepathy? If your presence can't be detected via "detect thoughts", should it also be undetectiable via telepathy?

We have a rogue who is enjoying using this and I don't want to take everything away, but I don't feel right letting him have his cake and eat it too.

I'm back with another question because you guys are so good at this! This is hopefully a quick one.

For various RP/backstory/character concept reasons, my PCs are about to have a chance to rescue a special ally & possible future mount for the sorcerer, with ties to the sorcerer's past. Without going into details, I really REALLY want to use an Asperi, both because it fits the sorcerer's character theme, and because one of my first characters had an Asperi once, so there's nostalgia there, too.

What I haven't decided is whether to:

a) Use the Asperi stats exact as-is.

b) Substitute the Dragonhorse stats, but make it look like an Asperi and be called an Asperi.

c) Adjust the Asperi stats to better fit Pathfinder mechanics.

Suggestions or ideas anyone? The Asperi's only real combat benefit will be as a flying mount for the sorcerer, but I'd like to make sure it doesn't get creamed into pancake the first time she rides him into battle. The PCs are currently Lvl 7 (Tier 2 mythic).

Hmm... all good points - thanks!

We have a house rule that we've used wherein players get chips for arriving on time or for contributing majorly to the game. This worked well... until we got surge points. And on top of that, many of the PCs have legendary weapons, too. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think that is part of the problem. The PCs can pretty much throw out almost any roll they don't like. It also means I've despaired of every being able to affect the PCs with anything, because they always just chip their saves. My monsters, on the other hand, don't have the ability to do this - they have to take whatever roll they get.

But with Claxon's suggestion, I think I can fix that. The next few monsters may not get much done, but their main job will be to steal away all of those chips, and a good portion of surge points, too.

Going forward, I haven't decided whether to remove the chip system (we've been discussing it), but I might consider giving the GM chips too, one per day, to use on any monster I want. See how the PCs like the chip system, then. I've already started to make them mythic, so a lot of my monsters have surge points. That might even the playing field a little and give me more control over what abilities are effective when I want them to be.

I sent out an e-mail this morning asking my players to answer a poll - what NPC was their character spending the most time with? Here was the hilarity that ensued via group e-mail:

Abigail: Hmm, there is no entry for "The Bartender"!

Me: There is no bartender, because there is no bar... yet. You need to reclaim the citadel before you and Lance can set up your tavern in honor of the god of beer.

Abigail: I am envisioning a covered wagon with a fold-down side (like a taco truck) that we can drive around.

Lance: Sounds great! And we can have Taco Tuesday! Free taco with every beer purchase.

Me: Abigail's Taqueria Demonio? Specializing in Babau Burritos, Tiefling Beef Tacos and Marileth Blooded Margaritas?

Lance: Never mind, I think I just lost my appetite.

Hey there!

I'm looking for a female bard for a game we are playing. I'm not too picky, so long as she either has an instrument or a ranged weapon (crossbow preferably). She's human, but I'd settle for an elf or half-elf.

My only real criteria is that it be pre-painted. We've been using the WoTC minis for a long time, so you can guess that low-quality isn't an issue, but I've never gotten into painting miniatures, so I don't want to deal with that here.

Any suggestions?
