Sorc / Devoted Monk Question

I have a strange question. I am playing around with a sorcerer with the dragon bloodline, but taking the devoted monk feat at level 2. How does the dragon claws power fit with the monk abilities? Can you use ki strike with dragon claws? Does the powerful fist ability increase the unarmed damage of the dragon claws? I assumed they would not be compatible, but dragon claws specifically says it is an unarmed attack, so now I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Good question. We know that claws and unarmed strikes aren't weapons, confirmed by some posts from Mark. Powerful Fist says it increases the damage of your fists, but page 178 specifies you "use the statistics for a fist even if you're kicking, or kneeing with another part of your body." I can't imagine the intent was Powerful fist didn't apply to kicks, and claws ARE another part of your body just the same. It then says Various feats/spells/features "give accesss to special, more powerful unarmed attacks." But I see nothing in this which contradicts the previous sentence.

So *I* think you're in the clear. Your claws should do a d6, and it should work with ki strike. Neat! With a couple more monk dedication feats you can make quite the dragon disciple. Flurry has nice synergy with dragon claws (or casting) and unarmored proficiency is obviously nice. Monk resiliency patches your poor HP, ki powers give more spell points... quite nice.

Hmm, this is a pretty interesting combo. Hadn't considered it. I have a pseudo-Dragon Disciple in my Ch. 1/4/7 DD party who is Sorc multiclassing Fighter, but this idea presents a whole different approach.

Thanks - I thought so! I've been playing around with the devoted feats because they allow me to consider remaking some 3.5 prestige classes that I hadn't been able to truly recreate in PF1. Namely, the daggerspell shaper (rogue/druid), the daggerspell mage (rogue/mage), the sacred fist (cleric/monk) and the enlightened fist (sorc/monk).

Hats off to Souldreamer for the idea.
