A fun and straightforward one-shot that gives a lot of room for GM's improvisation.
This book gave us Gunslinger and Inventor, two beloved subclasses with unique playstyles. The art in this book is also excellent, as expected from Paizo!
This adventure delivers what it promises: a fight against hordes of zombies. It is a very much fun time, and the optional rule given (instant zombie kills on critical hits) developed some hilarious fun on my table. The setting of Alkenstar is very much beloved by the fandom, and the flip mat is quite stellar.
It is, however, not perfect. The AP could do with more varied enemies and rewarding loot. It also didn't give NPCs a lot to play with. I personally added an infected survivor, and two people fighting for canned food - ya know, the usual zombie movie tropes. I think you could have a lot of fun with this one, if you're willing to work with what's given NPC-wise.
Book 1 of OoA gives you a strong goal to begin with, as stated in the product's description: to take revenge of the mogul who had wronged them. This is a clear and easy-to-get-into goal for neutral-aligned characters (which your players would probably make in this adventure, given it's all steampunk wild west coded).
I am simply in love with Alkenstar. It has all the tropes of a story set in fantasy wild west, and more. The gazetteer gives the GM a lot of stuff to play with.
One nitpick I have is the encounter design. Even then, it's nothing a GM cannot adjust on their own tables.
I've always loved Pathfinder's art direction. Even though it's pre-remaster, I still found them quite endearing. The gigantic, big monsters are imposing, and some of them reach out of the token circle! They're definitely stellar in terms of quality.
The implementation into Foundry VTT is also flawless, very practical.
I have run this adventure a couple different times, with little tweaks here and there. My table had always had a great experience with this one, even the newer players.
