There is an item called Collar of Beast-Speech. it's 3p from Alluria Publishing‎. It lets animals talk. If you had a monkey and this collar which costs 2000 the monkey could use a wand if it had ranks in use magic device (which I don't think it can).

dose he know its an Arcana if he thinks its a spell he might be using Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser or Globe of Invulnerability.

even if he know he could still have the enemy be illusions, or he could be using Antimagic Field.

In addition there is always spell research. A magic user you are facing might have crated a new Resist Energy spell that can stop force type energy.

There are lots of different ways this could have been done. however I suspect he just dose not like you min maxing with a 3PP and might have gone to them as well to find something to stand up to you.

I would talk to your DM and clear the air. (Remember his job is to challenge the party so the game remains interesting)

good luck

Thank you Ipslore the food items there were exactly the kind of recipes we were looking for. I think my DM might be planning to use the Newlife Soup against us however ;-(

We both love your cookbook recipes idea. You could even base some neat quest hooks of it (innkeeper has found ancient family recipe for the ultimate in fine cuisine "roost troll heart" but needs adventures to get ingredients for him) it is an awesome idea.

your idea of

you can eat up to your CON score in the same meals consecutively (CON 10 = 10 DAYS of trail rations), after that, you must roll WILL/FORT to force yourself to eat the same boring food again.

Is good as well but I don't see why it has to work only for trail rations they may not need to eat with rings of sustenance but they might get really sick of not eating.

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

ok with Speak with Animals I can see it. (was was more trying to be funny with the bear(lip reading) anyway) lol

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think if I were the DM I would rule against using comprehend language to comprehend bear(lip reading) as lip movement is a side effect of speaking not a language in it's self. But your not going to find an official ruling on it so I guess it would be up to the DM.

nope, the oracle has the knowage of the meaning of the words in the language being spoken. She understands apple means manzana, and cat means gato, but she can't hear that the person has said manzana or gato so she can't understand that person.

when you fly you are propelling your self in a direction through the air. you are controlling your flight with small bursts of energy (wing beats on the air, rocket blasts, magic shoves in the right direction etcetera) your fly rating dictates how much control you have. if you are flying over to a spot above and enemy and want to stop hand hover there you must stop your forward momentum and stabilized your self vi whatever means you are flying with. If you fail you fly check to do this you will continue to fly forward overshooting where you wanted to be. (And maybe crashing if there was something to crash into in front of you).

The fly spell has a maneuverability of good so you don't have to worry much about this.

Pepperbox: This pistol has six barrels instead of one. The entire barrel housing can be quickly rotated by hand between shots (a free action requiring one free hand), allowing all six bullets to be fired before the weapon must be reloaded. Each barrel of a pepperbox uses either a bullet and a single dose of black powder or a single alchemical cartridge as ammunition.

can't use twf you need a hand free to use the pepperbox

no, no profit just make nice varying meals for the party. I got sick and tired of the eat trail rations, sleep in watches pattern that was forming with no detail. I was thinking I could butcher some of what we kill or find on the way as well. Dragons stakes Mmmmm. lol.

My DM and I are thinking some food is harder to make then others so it would be nice if that was considered. but my dm is being flexible so it dose not have to be an official system just one that is interesting and dose not take hours to compete a meal unless I am making a banquet or cooking something really strange.

We were also hoping for something that might have effects in game as well ie. eat red dragons get 1 point of fire resistance.

Just looking for ideas.

I am playing new character and when I was making it I found all the food options listed in the equipment section. I really liked the idea of making a cook for the party so a bought lots of food and cooking supplies and took craft cooking. When I looked at the craft rules however the time it takes to make one meal is ridicules even if I increase the dc of the check.

1 week = 7 days * 8 hr * 60 min = 3360 min
dc 5 + 10 to cut time = 15 dc
take 10 + int 2 + ranks 4 = 16
Meal, good (per day) 5sp * 5 players = 25 sp
15 dc * 16 check = 240
240 / 25 = 9.6
3360 min/ 9.6 = 350 min to cook one meal for everyone or 5.8 hours

obviously this system was not designed for cooking. but with so many food options on the book I figure someone must have a good system somewhere. My DM has said if I can find a good system she will let me use it.

Any ideas?

Continual Flame is a light spell not a fire spell so no. However as a DM I might allow it. It is somewhat clever and if they are desperate enough to destroy a Continual Flame spell which cost 50 gold to cast to cast a simple spell like Pyrotechnics they probably really need it.

wow nice question.

If you used your whip to grapple someone, they are grappled. They can still do a CMB check to try to get free from the grapple however that just frees them from the grapple. A target hit with an anchoring weapon can not move from the space where they were hit (unless they break the weapon or have a very large strength check.) Until you free them. If they can get free from the grapple they can still attack from that spot or use magic to free themselves.

The tricky part of this questions is would the whip suddenly becoming non flexible make the grapple check harder to brake free from. As far as I know there is no rule for this however it would make sense. If I was the DM in your game I probably would add some difficulty to the CMB.

I the opponent is flying when hit with an anchoring weapon they are stuck up in the air until something frees them.

Just one more thing to note before you try this. Whips are easy to break and thus do not make very good anchoring weapons.

We are fairly new to dungeons and dragons and no I was the first person to try to use this spell. We had some trouble in an earlier game with our wizard not reading her spells completely. Because of this our DM is going over our spells, when we cast them, with a fine tooth comb and if she sees anything wrong with what we are doing she makes the spell go wrong is some bad way. She is not really "a jerk" she is just trying to keep us from abusing our spells.

thanks sleet storm I will try to sell that to her. The problem is the spell itself says:
All equipment worn or carried by a creature is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee weapons affected by this spell deal more damage (see Table: Tiny and Large Weapon Damage). Other magical properties are not affected by this spell. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature's possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size. This means that thrown and projectile weapons deal their normal damage. Magical properties of enlarged items are not increased by this spell.

Since the spell says it causes your weight to multiply by 8 that was what she ruled. Getting her to change her mine without an official paizo source is going to be hard

my fall back position is to get a Heavyload belt so I do have options but I think it is kind of silly that I need to.

I dropped all the rest of my gear the 496 lbs is just from my axe and armor. You are correct that heavy armors penalties are the same at lev 4 however I will get...

Armor Training (Ex): Starting at 3rd level, a fighter learns to be more maneuverable while wearing armor. Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1. Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), these bonuses increase by +1 each time, to a maximum –4 reduction of the armor check penalty and a +4 increase of the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed.

In addition, a fighter can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor. At 7th level, a fighter can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor.

So when I reach lev 7 I will effected by the weight again.

We did not know about the doubled carrying capacity at the time but I have found out about it since. However doubling the carrying capacity is not coming anywhere close to compensating for your gear's weight multiplying by 8. As it stands this spell is better for attacking a fighter then it is for buffing him.

Ok, this is the first time I have ever asked a question so if it's stupid or covered else where please forgive me and tell me where to look.

In our gaming group I am playing a fourth lev fighter. I have a great axe as my main weapon and full plate for armor. I have a good strength stat of 17. The armor makes me really slow so I recently bought some potions of enlarge person to give myself some reach.

My dungeon master attacked the party with an endless series of skeletons and I drank one of my potions to give myself attacks of opportunity.

When my DM read over the enlarge spell she pointed out that if you multiply the weight of my gear by eight (even if I dropped everything but my armor and axe) that my gear now weighs 496 lbs. My strength of 17 + 2 = 19 only gave me a heavy load max of 350 lbs.

Because of this she ruled that I was pinned under the weight of my own gear and could not move or fight. :-(

I have looked for more info on this and have since found that a large creature has twice the carrying capacity however this still seems ridicules as it would still move me from a light load to a heavy load.

I am assuming that the +2 strength in the enlarge spell is a typo since the size categories for monsters have the strength scores go up much more per level. Dose anyone know if this error was corrected anywhere. I can't use the potions unless I can prove to her it was an error from an official paizo source.

Thanks for the help
