Ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 4 = 9

Whisken zips a little more acid at the plant but she misses again with all of her allies crowding around it!

Whisken fires another little spray of acid, too beat up to attempt much more. "At least I'm getting good practice at what I read in Caustic Fundamentals..." she mutters.

Attack, soft cover: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16
Dam: 1d3 ⇒ 1

The acid jet whizzes right over Mohk's head and hits the wall, sizzling a tiny bit.

Whisken shoots another little jet of acid. "Yikes! Don't die, Mohk!!"

Shoot: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Acid: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Marz's arrow wounds the more humanoid-looking of the plants and Whisken scampers up

Ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Acid dam: 1d3 ⇒ 2

The plant totters on its roots, almost finished!

Whisken yelps "This is crazy!" and scoots up a little ways right behind Mezdav. "What are we trying to do?" she asks nervously.

Gennie and Marz should still go.

Whisken pipes up "I don't think this is permitted, especially since it caused problems. The headmistress will have some things to say about it. But I really don't think Master Crenshaw would kill us over this. She has a long reputation for caring about students more than most of the other masters."

Whisken looks around and walks out into the stone room. "Crazy! I didn't get a good luck at this before. When I figured out there must be grimples sneaking around, I found their secret passageway. They jumped me pretty quick after that." She rubs her wrists and cocks her head. "So what's the plan right now?"

Whisken coughs, dry-throated. "Ack. I... guess so?" She rubs sore wrists. "They dragged me in front of a stone ring many times and shouted questions but I had no idea what they were asking me about."

Whisken follows along to the kitchen, nodding in responds to what Mohk said. "Ah yes. Divination! That would make sense."

She thinks to herself in response to Marz as well. "I have heard of a spell like that but I don't know the details myself." She shrugs and holds up a finger in resolution. "Another thing for me to read up on when I go to the library!" After a few minutes in the kitchen, she heads off to one of the libraries.

You can have an IC discussion, go to bed, go study, whatever seems right at this time.

Whisken eats another seedcake while poring through some books. "I think I might check some more texts out of the library. This is fascinating!!" Then she seems to catch herself. "Oh but friendship first. How was the first day for all of you? I did not realize the architecture here was so complex, some of it quite old!"

Ecstatic at the challenge, Whisken jumps in to try to help. She begins pestling some mint leaves most heartily. "Ah yes, they possess chemical cooling powers. You can taste it in your mouth."

Aid craft alchemy, untrained: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

But she gets pretty caught up trying to pass samples of ground mint leaves to each of you and really contributes nothing to the final project... As time is running out, she realizes this. "Oh scadswallop! I'm sorry! I need to focus more..."

Heal aid: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Whisken looks at the awful residue and exclaims "My goodness! Is that some kind of demon sweat?"

Whisken cheerfully offers for Gennie to look at her notes, if she likes. When Gennie talks about specializing, Whisken looks downright day-dreamy. "Well you don't HAVE to specialize but most people do. It makes it much easier in fourth year and beyond to only have one of the masters overseeing your research projects. As for me, I've always been fascinated by the odd creatures from other planes. So conjuration was an easy choice."

The young elf, a slight bruise forming on his cheek, scoffs "Of course I am alright! But That Elias will be hearing from the Midiccis! He'll be lucky if he lasts the rest of the term."

DC 14 K local, +2 circumstance for anyone from here in town:

The Midicci family are lesser nobles of a long bloodline.

You have a thirty minute break before your next class, just enough time to eat and catch up.

If you have rations or food of your own, you can eat those. There are street sellers and taverns a five minute walk away if you wish to purchase food. There are many outdoor areas to eat, your own rooms, or the great hall.

Once you are outside, Whisken pulls a seed-cake from her basket and begins nibbling on it. "So what happened? And I still haven't heard what some of you want to specialize in!" she inquires, somewhere between endearing and obnoxious.

"Ooh fascinating!" Whisken intones quietly. "I heard a tale of a dhampir investigator who struggles through all the traps in a crypt until the final one. Wounded and bleeding, they noticed it was a harm that. They walked right through and were completely restored to health!" She's so excited her whisper turns much louder toward the end of the anecdote.

Whisken smiles at Jermaine. "Nice to meet you! I hope to study arcane conjuration when we specialize in third year. What about you?"

Marz only finds small, pinkish red bumps, indicating some kind of irritation on Gennie's lower back.

Whisken looks curiously at Mohk and announces "Well it seems we worked well together! I haven't met you gentlemen yet but I'm Whisken and these are my roommates." She gestures to Gennie and Marz, allowing them to introduce themselves if they wish. Then she turns back to Mohk again. "Hmmm... I wonder if it's the same thing with him."

Ok it looks like Jermaine, Marz, and Gennie manage six castings of resistance between them so we're good on that front. I'll bot Mohk's will save to keep moving at a quick pace.

Spellcraft aid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Whisken is so excited in class that she pores over her book, looking for details that she can add then she raises her head to comment helpfully right as time runs out! Master Tomas' spell resounds over your heads.

Will save, Whisken: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5
Will save, Mohk: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 1 = 20

Mohk, Jermaine, Gennie, and Mezdav are unaffected, as are some other students. But Marz and Whisken immediately grow extremely calm and sit still, blinking and looking around.

DC 17 spellcraft for anyone:

Master Tomas cast a widened calm emotions. You note he is now holding a dark grey, lesser widen rod which he puts back in his pocket.

Unfortunately, Gennie determines quickly that they are not provided with their own hearth. The large building will retain some heat from the ovens, etc., and the winters are mild but you will all certainly want warm clothes and thick blankets when winter comes.

Whisken beams though she is distracted for a moment by Tai. "It's wonderful to meet you, Gennie! I'm hoping to specialize in arcane conjuration. What about you two?" Then she adds nervously. "Tai doesnt... bite, does she? She's almost as big as me!"

Whisken grins and shakes Marz's much larger hand with two delicate hands with fine fur. "I've been waiting my whole life to come to the University! I've read through the assigned reading for the first half of this quarter but haven't had time to do the rest." She looks nervous. "Do you think that will be enough? I don't want to fall behind!" She turns to Gennie and looks up at her curiously. "And what's your name?"

Gemmie and Marz each follow the listings, asking for directions a couple times, and arrive simultaneously at their room on the second floor (see description of the boys' room). Coming up just behind them is a stocky, female ratfolk who cheerfully drags a leather pack almost as large as she is. She nods and smiles. "I'm Whisken! It looks like we'll be roommates this year."

Perrin succeeds in finding and purchasing his alchemical ingredients. A young ratperson comes up from the back. The shopkeeper calls out to him "Hey Whisken, a gold for you if you can tell this guy what these things are!" The ratfolk nods eagerly. "Oh yes sir! Yes sir! Yes sir! I'll try!" The furry young fellow bends over the items and peers carefully at them.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 16 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 2 + 1 = 27

"Ooh ooh! Interesting! This one will make you have a clearer mind, these will make you really fast, and that one will make it harder for magic to affect you! Shiny! I don't know what that last belt does but it looks really great! I might be able to figure it out if I tried again after reading some more of my books!" The shopkeeper happily tosses him 5% of your tip. The small ratfolk chitters with glee and runs into the back of the shop, holding the coin up high in triumph.

You've now IDed the headband of wisdom, boots of speed, and pale green prism (cracked: +1 resistance bonus to saves).
Figured I'd put one of my unused aliases to use.

Yes I love arcane as well. If you have a preference, I could go arcane if you want to go melee.

If I do go paladin, caster killer twh paladin is an alternative. Any preferences/feedback?

Rorek: Cleric would be great. That extreme divine spellcasting power is never a bad thing to have on our side. Dhampir inquisitor sounds pretty awesome too.

Thanks for doing this! Party-wise, I could be very happy playing just about anything. I'm thinking of having some fun with a TWF paladin gnome using Gnome hooked hammer. Could be pretty awesome and fairly effective damage-dealer. Just a thought so far. Will think some more on it and delve into possible backstories later today.

Totally understandable. :) Then my first choices would probably be S&S or Carrion Crown but I'm not too picky.

Thanks for the consideration! I agree that it's very generous of you to offer to run more stuff for us. I'd be really interested in Skulls & Shackles (though you probably don't want to run another one) or Kingmaker (I'd be happy to help manage the book-keeping for this). That said, Rorek's options sound great too.

Swapped out haste for major image since Jane and Marnir like to cover haste and illusions are soooo flexible and cool.

Also changed the background a bit since I don't have a peg leg anymore. Don't want to step on Kung's lack of toes. XD Added a little description at the end of the background too, in case you're curious. Nothing essential that really changes the submission.

We're all eager to hear the result! Lots of cool submissions indeed.

Ok. Changed the traits up to not duplicate the peg leg. Also altered the equipment to account for what I haven't crafted yet but hope to.

Any specific background you'd like to see us write so you can get a writing or roleplay sample and we're not jumping into the typical starting point of S&S?

Ok cool. Sounds great. I plan to offer my crafting services to others as much as they desire and I can keep up with, if selected. Given that most recent random encounter, I'm not concerned that crafting some stuff for the party would make them too strong for what the world throws at them.

Ah ok thanks for the heads up on the peg leg. I'll see if I want to switch it out since we don't necessarily need to have a S&S trait.

Thanks for the clarification on item creation, too. I had crafted starting equipment as well so I'll fix that. It seems like the party might spend about half their days sailing places? Could I be crafting then? Wondering about the viability of leaving a decent amount of starting gold open and catching up by crafting.

Caster's completed wizard submission here (except for writing out a little math but that's it).

Short version: Ratfolk wizard took up the pirate's life because it suited his curiosity and drive to survive.

Ways I can help the party:
Thanks to some helpful input from a friend, I think I can contribute to the party in the following ways:
UMD a wand of remove fear (lol animate dream)
Force damage (battering blast)
Help out with extra castings of fly
Magic circle against evil
Teleportation over long and short ranges
Flexible and utility arcane spellcasting using fast study and a constantly expanding spellbook
Summons
Divinations

Thanks! I'm open to any input!
