Valeros nods, but does not immediately put his sword away. "True, if no one got a second chance their wouldn't be any first chances left anymore."

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Valeros flinches back from the fire, but grits his teeth and pushes through it. (HP 13/20)

"My turn now."

Deciding to go for broke, Valeros draws his sword and swings as quickly as he can, hoping to connect with his opponent more than once.

Interaction, draw sword

Swing 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 Don't forget flanking.
Damage 1: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Swing 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Don't forget flanking.
Damage 2: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Like last round, Valeros will either AoO with his sword, or raise his shield in a Reactive Shielding, whichever triggers first.

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

I am not 100% sure of my movement ranges, because I failed the save so I present two solutions depending on if the effect ends if I leave the area.

Sudden Charge:

Valeros struggles forward and then bursts from the grass, tearing forward and slamming his shield into Haanar.

Shield Bash: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

I am presuming that at the end of the battle Valeros sheathed his sword in the downtime rounds. Thus he uses Stride, then Sudden Charge, using the Shield as a melee weapon as part of the Sudden Charge.

Too Slow:

Valeros struggles with the grass, but with much cursing manages to move adjacent to Haanar.

Stride, Stride, Stride is Valeros' actions in this version.

Regardless of which action is correct, Valeros will Reactive Shield action if he is attacked or an Attack of Opprotunity, whichever is triggered first.

Attack of Opportunity:

Shield Bash: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Valeros will attempt the diplomacy, even though he isn't particular good at straight talk.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10

"Really now gentlemen. There's no need for any violence. Let's talk it out and settle everything over a good pint."

Valeros turns to the Sage. "And those are some pretty harsh words you are throwing there. Do you have any proof of your words other than 'because I said so'?"

Valeros takes a moment to check on the condition of his shield.

"Hmm, held up better than I though. Maybe they were right about this whole 'sword-and-board' thing."

"Time to go for broke!"

Valeros strikes twice in quick succession, and then braces against any return blow.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 1 = 25
Damage 1: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 = 24
Damage 2: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Since I don't think I've explicitly done it yet.

"Really? Is that the best you can do?" Valeros says out loud as he draws his sword. "Try harder next time.

Valeros then raises his shield and strikes at the Ogre.

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

In summary: Draw Weapon, Raise Shield, Strike

If I don't need to draw my weapon:

"Here have another!"

Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Revised actions are: Raise Shield, Strike, Strike

My movement is done.

Valerous strides forward confidently, moving himself adjacent to the goblin without much difficulty. He then raises he shield and braces for impact.

"Come and get me, you little pests."

Stride, Stride, Raise Shield

"Fine, I guess there is such a thing as too much bravado."

Valeros grins, "At least not without more witnesses. Up the path we go, and swiftly!"
