Replication Hammer

SNIP

Thanks for the thorough and insightful review of my Replication Hammer!

Star Voter Season 9

My first time entering. The 5th cull knocked me out. What did I need to make it further?

Replication Hammer
Aura strong divination and evocation; CL 13th
Slot none; Price 36,324 gp; Weight 6 lbs.
Description
This polished warhammer is crafted from a single piece of cold iron. Wielders not proficient with this weapon use it as a +1 warhammer. Proficient wielders use it as a +4 warhammer when attempting to sunder a melee weapon that possesses a special ability.

If the weapon targeted by the sunder is destroyed in this manner, the wielder of the Replication Hammer may allow it to absorb one special ability of that weapon. This does not change the Replication Hammer's enhancement bonus. If the weapon that was destroyed had more than one special ability, the wielder of the Replication Hammer may choose which ability to absorb. Upon absorbing a new ability, it loses any absorbed ability it currently possesses. The Replication Hammer always retains the ability to absorb other abilities. the wielder of the Replication Hammer may choose not to absorb an ability.
Construction
Requirements Str 13, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, shatter, limited wish; Cost 18,324 gp

My first year participating in this. I made it past the 4th cull, but the 5th one was my downfall. I had a great time with this and intend to participate again next season.

I'll admit that I was beginning to think that I would make the top 32, despite saying to myself from the get-go that I shouldn't get too worked up in that respect.

After casting may votes, I realized that I neglected to put any flavor text into my submission. I think after reading the advice threads that I decided to lean towards the "dry" side.

But, I don't think that is what led to my being culled. I also didn't make my item "come alive". It wasn't a SiaC, at least I don't think it was, but it lacked any creativity other than coming up with a simple description of its appearance and an interesting function.

I guess I'll have to wait until I can submit it to the review thread and find out if that is true.

Moving forward...

Congrats and Good Luck to all those who survived! I'll be back. :)

I'm guessing that in that Campaign Cartographer thingy, that you would be using artwork that is built into the tool, such as grass, trees, rocks, whatever?

Does this mean we can use something like RPTools to make our map?

Star Voter Season 9

I'm hoping that I make to Round 2, but concerned about being able to submit a legal map entry if I do make it.

So, 24 x 36 grid, or 24 x 30? People have said both in this thread. So, my entire image should be 24 squares x 30(36?) squares, with nothing going outside that area.

I don't have a scanner, or a printer. So, I'm also concerned about being able to use the grid that will be supplied to us.

I'm pretty much looking at drawing by hand onto a sheet of graph paper. That leads to another issue, making this the right DPI. I'll probably have to take a photo of my map and then load it into my computer. Not sure about how I'm going to meet the requirements from there.

This is all moot if I don't make Round 2, but I'm hoping to figure this stuff out in advance, just in case.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Ahhh. I found it. Was pages and pages ago. I ended up in the middle of this thread somehow and when I refreshed it brought me to this page and I couldn't locate it...

Anyhow, PM sent. :)

Star Voter Season 9

Pretty sure I just saw a post referring to my item, and now it's gone. I was going to respond in PM, but I forget who had posted it.

Regardless, yeah. I know. That was a result of the second version and I wish I had stuck with the original.

Are people still seeing items that haven't already been added to the post-cull list? How often?

Just wondering how complete the post-cull list is.

So far, everything I've seen tonight has already been checked post cull. I've only viewed about 30 items since the cull though.

Whew. Still hanging in there.

Definitely. Too small a cull, with too little time afterward for the surviving items to make the list. Wait a day or so.

Is there a post that shows how many items were culled? Couldn't find anything specific.

Now that I know a culling took place, I'm suddenly really nervous.

Star Voter Season 9

Thanks PA & KC. I figured that was the case.

Flanwaw - I'm adopting that same positive attitude!

Just out of curiosity, if/when you have voted enough to earn a title, does it appear on posts you made prior to that moment, or only one ones you make from then on?

Star Voter Season 9

Nice thread. :)

I've voted on a few pretty cool items so far, some of which will probably get DQ'd for lack of formatting. Echoing what several others have said, use that template!

I've also seen some pretty wild pricing, but I'm not even sure that my pricing was correct, so let's hope the accountants take the week off!

The only other advice I might offer, and as a first timer I'm not sure I should be offering any, is to avoid tacking on some random powerful ability just to beef up your items street cred. Stick with the theme you've created and leave it at that!

I'm pretty concerned about the wording on my entry. While I was reading over it again and again, I kept finding ways that it could be misconstrued and ended up using the name of the item more than just once or twice in its description. I did it for the sake of clarity, but it seemed clunky.

Star Voter Season 9

I pity the crafter whose items cost him more, way, way more, to craft than he can sell it for...

Wait, do I have to be playing in your campaign to know what all this means?

Just remember that when you vote, you are not voting for one or the other of a pair of items to be in the Top 32. What you're doing is choosing which of the two is the better item. They may both be terrible, or wonderful, or somewhere in between, but you decide which one is just a bit better.

Don't quit and don't hit the "both items" button. Not voting accomplishes nothing. The more votes that are done, the quicker the better items will rise to the top and the clearer the cut line will be for the eventual cull.

I made that mistake on my first vote. Since then I've been more particular about making a choice.

I wonder how much weight people put on grammar vs. choice of words that refer to game mechanics. Or, simple formatting mistakes.

Star Voter Season 9

Wow. I just saw an almost exact match for an item I almost entered. Same item, different name, less spells in the can. Weird.

Is there a way you can tell how many times you have voted? About half of the time I vote, I am getting a "No Date Received" error.

20th Century Horror vs. Mythological Mayhem!

Star Voter Season 9

First timer here. So, I guess I really should just shut up and vote.

But, I won't. I dig the idear of this thread and find most of it spot on. I have seen a couple posts that push the envelope as far as 1) Not being "mean", and 2) Not giving away what item you're talking about. More the latter though.

Then again, first timer, here. Don't mind me!

I have seen a couple posts that I think might be referring to my entry, but those all have happy endings, so it's doubtful that it is my item!

I am about to vote on my first pair right now, and I have to say, this might be as hard as the actual creating of items.

Insane, why would I want to do that item, vs. almost zero formatting, component missing, action scene detailing item. Yikes. I hate to vote equal on my first vote.

Star Voter Season 9

Thanks for the quick response! Here it goes...

Star Voter Season 9

Gotta double check this.

Just like while I'm making this post, when I am about to submit my entry, I see my user name and avatar above, next to an empty text box. I know that when I submit this post that my name and avatar will show up. What I'm worried about, is that the same will happen when I post my entry.

Thanks for the welcoming thread. I've had an account here for years, but haven't really posted in the forums.

Anyhow, I'm pretty close to submitting an entry! If not for the great amount of info available here, I would have been done days ago. Which would have been a bad thing. So, thanks for making me put on the white gloves, grab the fine-toothed comb, and polish up my magnifying glass!

Just need to figure out price and construction cost now...
