Silver Crusade

Tod gestures to each item in turn, showing that he's got all the "old standbys" - four vials of holy water in a bandoleer across his chest, a wand of cure light wounds in a pocket in his pants, and a silver warhammer and steel longword, one on each hip. "Thanks," he says, his voice beginning to slide from excited to his usual somber monotone. That reminds me. I need to find a stop-gap to fight ghosts, shadows, and such until I can get a magic sword, he thinks. At least this conversation was good for something.

You missed Tod's path to killing undead - the Ranger's Favored Enemy.

"Like-minded, indeed. Any tips for killing undead?" Tod asks eagerly. Any positive response brings out a new side of the usually taciturn young man - a strong desire to talk about and add to his nearly encyclopedic knowledge of undead and how to kill them.

A nondescript young man wearing slightly damp and muddy clothes sits in the corner, sharpening a longsword. He straightens up as Ollysta Zadrian enters the room, expecting a speech or a mission for someone present. Once she starts speaking, though, his eyebrow raises in disbelief. 'Really?' it seems to say. 'She came here to say that?' He snorts and returns to his task. All the connections, all the sob stories in the world are powerless against Them, he thinks. All that matters is your skill at arms or magic. He grinds stone against steel fiercely, as if trying to hone not only the sword, but himself. Neither She nor They care whether one is old or young, beautiful or ugly, and neither will I.

Later, however, he awkwardly approaches Selena and passes her a note that says, "You wish peace for your dead? The clergy of Pharasma may help you."

I assume that the body of Grishan Maldris, the other dead student we found in the necropolis, doesn't suddenly return to life?

Tod stands aghast for a moment as he sees the children sitting amongst shattered, desecrated bones. Neither Deris's ramblings nor Maximo's oath help his state of mind, but he finally pulls himself together enough to tap Werz and Smoggin on the shoulder when Deris isn't looking and gesture towards the leather sap hanging from his belt, a questioning look on his face.

After finishing the shortest of the Prayers for the Dead, Tod shoulders his shield again and follows after everyone else. Ten years have passed. She would almost certainly have judged his soul by now. It is therefore for the sake of the living, not the dead, that we pray.

Tod pockets the book without a second glance, then gestures toward the corpse and says, "Grishan Maldris, a student at the school. He should be returned to his grieving family." How many more lie in strange death in these caverns?

Does he look undead? Taking 10 for 18 Kn (Religion) to verify there aren't any undead that resemble this.

If he doesn't suddenly spring to life or unlife, Tod closes the boy's eyes, then assists Smoggin in searching the body for clues to who he was. Not certain if it should be an Aid Another or a separate Take 20, but it comes to 26 either way.

After Maximo extracts his sword from the zombie, Tod rolls it over with his foot, searching for anything that would tell him what it was doing here, or perhaps something that could be used against others of its kind. Taking 10 for 16 Perception. He'll take other loot as well, if any.

Will the pond drain down? wonders Tod. As he pulls, he tries his best to brace himself against the current he worries will result from water flowing down the hatchway.

Besides "flanking the bug", where is everyone now? That last sequence of moves left me somewhat confused.

Tod pauses briefly, seeking the best route through the muck, then moves while the bug goes after Maximo. He too circles the bug, somewhat more hastily than Maximo did, giving him enough time to strike another blow.

Frustrated that the only moving thing in the pool appears to be alive, Tod brings his sword down on it with a satisfying crunch. Let's get this over with so we can move on.

Taking 10 for Knowledge (Religion) 18, Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 15 to guess what the white ovoid masses could be. My money's on undead swarm or crawling hand covered in very large barnacles.
