Tanaterra takes a deep breath, looking up at the woman for a few moments, before exhaling and nodding. "Apologies, ma'am. We were, perhaps, being somewhat overzealous. At this particular point in time, we do not have a warrant, nor any cause to believe there is immediate danger or harm to a person, such that would require a search and entry." Without waiting for a response, she pads over to the apprentice, her bare feet slapping on the cobbles, and reaches up to gently take his hands.

"Young man. You're going through a lot, and it's not fair. But it's part of my job to make it as fair as I can. You came to this place, searching for your master, for a reason. Please, let us know what that reason is."

Tanaterra's speech here is trying to serve a dual purpose; she's trying to get the apprentice to open up, but also trying to send a message (through the emphasized words to the shopkeeper) that if he thinks his master might be dead or dying in her shop, then that legally gives them probable cause for a non-paperwork-based search.
I'm going to assume a Diplomacy check is the way to go, here; I'll post a Deception check as well, for the sort of "send a coded message" idea; feel free to ignore if it's not needed.

Tanaterra looks up at both of the mages. "Unless anyone has any strenuous objections, I'm going to have a look around and see if I can find out what has happened here." She looks to Eunice. "I promise, I will not touch anything without asking you first - I know better than to randomly poke at unknown magic."

She waits all of two seconds for a reply before striding into the shop, murmuring in Gnomish to Chomski, "Taylir eyn sur'haai dayn par vutyc euras, ni dein't copaanir cuyir jehavey."

Gnomish:
"Keep an eye out for magical auras, I don't want to be surprised."

TT will begin a fairly thorough investigation of the shop. Pertinent skills include Perception, Arcana, and Thievery; pertinent feats include That's Odd, Quick Identification, and Glean Contents.

Congrats, Chomski! I've decided to use Mandalorian for Gnomish!

Pursing her lips at the idea of "youthful exuberance", Tanaterra once again pulls her crowbar out of her backpack and hands it over to Greyjay. "Here, go help Marcellus. Don't want him opening up the wrong thing!", she jokes with a chuckle. "I don't think I've ever been so glad to lug a crowbar around with me for a day!"

She then raises her voice to shout inside, "Look, we're trained investigators. If you let us in, we can help you find what it is you're looking for...and then you probably won't have to fix a door afterwards, too!"

Chomski will not heal people with the 3 action heal and instead just suggest that people heal up. Will spend his time hobnobbing with the crowd that has gathered.

Related - I never realized that Forensic Medicine adds my level to the total amount healed with Battle Medicine or Treat Wounds; so totals less Chomski's healing, but back up +2 if TT patched you up.

Tanaterra urges everyone to take a seat on the rocks and catch their breath as she moves to and fro, patching up herself and Laz, offering the group small sips of tea from an insulated flask, and double-checking her resuscitation efforts on Marcellus. She clicks her tongue, looking at his deep, oozing scimitar slash. "When we get some time, we're going to have to get that stitched up proper. The field bandages should hold, but if it opens back up...well, you might not get back up next time."

Hearing more rattling coming from the hole, Tanaterra formulates a plan, and dashes over to the opening. "Everyone try not to die for a few seconds!" she cries, as she dashes over to the hole, pulling out her crowbar to lever some rocks as large as she is into the deep dark gap to plug things up.

I'm going to assume that for these purposes, a crowbar counts as a sufficiently heavy tool.

Tanaterra scampers around the site, looking for what might have raised these skeletons, to ensure they do not rise again, or that more might cause further trouble.

Tanaterra looks around at the carnage, paralyzed by indecision - she was prepped to keep the peace among the living, not the restless dead! Viewing the environment and devises a strategem - she realizes that both dagger and crossbow will pass right through a skeleton's bony structure, but perhaps using them to knock some rubble onto a skeleton would be more effective! Taking aim at a nearby chunk of loose masonry, she levels her hand crossbow to shoot out a support and crush one of the restless dead.

Stratagem Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

If successful, Tanaterra can Share the Stratagem with one of the other party members, causing that skeleton to be flat-footed against that party member.

Rather than attempt a skill challenge where we are likely to fail, can we use the Aid action to help another team member with their skill check? While it minimizes the risks of failure, it also might slow down being able to hit our target time, since there's one less person working on the problem.

Turning to the group, he wonders out loud, "Do we haul them both in, or maybe they can agree to just split the fines and promise to get along, because if we have to come back.. well then I'm sure I can dig a few more things to charge them with out of the law book, there are a LOT of laws in those books... Tanaterra gets eye to eye with the goblins, and explains that it doesn't much matter who started it - since the Edgewatch had to stop it, the goblins owe the Edgewatch for their behavior. She will also do her best to educate the goblins on how to avoid having this happen again in the future.

Before I get too deep into the thing, I wanted to get everyone's feedback; since TT is a Linguist, I've planned on using funtranslations.com to post in-game fantasy languages, as I did with the goblinspeak. If folks find this to be a fun addition to the in-game RP and an enjoyable bit of world-building, I can certainly continue it, but if people feel it makes things too clunky or bogs things down too much, I can certainly just skip it and do something like , "Tanaterra says, in Goblin, 'blah blah blah'.", and then folks can just skip over it if their character doesn't understand that language.

I will reiterate again the confirmation of my decision.

I can fully appreciate that and acknowledge that. I’m just curious about the dying/knocked out condition. You’ve ruled on non-lethal and I’m fully on board with playing by the book. I’m just not clear on your thoughts on the second part.

Someone quoted the Player's Guide in the recruitment thread -

Player's guide wrote:

First, as city guards, your party’s player characters are all assumed to be trained in nonlethal conflict resolution.
This means that, during combat encounters, your character is always dealing nonlethal damage; you are never allowed to deal lethal damage. You take no penalty to attack rolls for dealing nonlethal damage, and all types of damage you deal (whether from weapon attacks, spells, or even poisons) are nonlethal unless you're attacking a creature immune to nonlethal damage. You gain no bonuses or added benefits for making attacks using weapons with the nonlethal weapon trait. As usual for nonlethal damage, when you reduce a creature to 0 Hit Points using nonlethal damage, the creature falls unconscious instead of dying.

So I think we joined under the assumption that the rules from the Player's Guide would be in full effect, which meant we would be dealing non-lethal damage with everything at baseline unless we state otherwise.

Leading the patrol group to the fairgrounds, Tanaterra stops and goggles in awe for a few moments. Even in a city of wonders, and knowing the title of the attraction, she is well and truly distracted by the sight of an actual, literal walking building. She is only roused by the cry of the mugged nobleman, and casting her gaze around, attempts to pick the thief out of the crowd, figure out their route, and direct her compatriots to cut them off.

"There! After her!" To her fellow Greycloaks, more quietly, she says, "There's an alley over there with less traffic; if you hurry, you might get ahead of her."

The validity of T's directions depend on the outcome of the roll; she might be right or mistaken, depending on how the dice land.

"For the assignment I was handed, I'm going to assume that there's nobody alive buried in rubble, else we'd have been dispatched directly there.
