![]() Marcan The child flashes a cheeky (and completely unrepentant) smile, before running to join his friends who are heading along with the tide of crowds into the main square. The only people not joining the crowds are your fellow traders, who are busy making the last adjustments to their stalls. Today should be good business. Kejal and Jonathan You make your way across the ever more crowded square and find space to watch the festivals opening ceremony. The square quickly becomes crowded as people file in, gathering in small groups of family and friends that steadily get pushed closer and closer together until the area in front of the stage is decidedly cosy, and the only way to maintain a decent amount of personal space is by hanging back by the edges of the square. Sherrif Hemlock and his men are keeping a vigilant watch on the crowds. The atmosphere is jubilant and this seems like the start of a new page after the recent troubles but you can never be sure with the way tempers have been flaring lately and the crowd holds almost as many visitors as locals, all drawn to the town by the promise of festive opportunities.
Sheriff Hemlock steps up next and addresses the crowd with a much more sombre tone. “While today is a festival, and enjoyment is of course not to be discouraged, I would remind you all of the importance of safety and civil behaviour in ensuring that this is a fun day for everyone. Most importantly, as always we will be holding a bonfire this evening and I don’t think the people of this town need reminding about how dangerous fire can be. So instead of telling you all things you should already know about being careful near the fire this evening, I am just going to ask that you all respect a minuits silence in memory of the people who lost their lives in the fire that claimed our church just five years ago. The church has now been replaced, but our neighbours have not.” His mood seems to infect the crowd as a mostly respectful silence spreads across the square. It is ended by a simple thank you from the Sheriff as he steps aside to make room for the next speaker.
Mutters and gasps ripple across the square at this announcement that one of the most popular players in Vassilon is in surprise residence at the local theatre. Lastly Father Zantus steps up to the stage. “Thank you all for coming to what I hope will be a truly memorable day, and the start of a new chapter in the life of our town. Today we celebrate not only Legend of Desna, nursed back to health by a child whom she transformed into a butterfly, and in memory of which we will be celebrating at noon, followed by a buffet of free meals provided by our generous tavern’s, but also the consecration of our new and lovingly built church this evening. You have all worked hard to bring us to this moment, so now is the time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. I officially declare the festivities open.” Cheers go up, and the crowd begins to disperse amongst the stalls and events that have been set up around the square and nearby town streets. Feel free to explore Sandpoint and the festival.

![]() Welcome to the Fate of the Runelords Discussion thread. When posting in the Gameplay thread consider that it is the morning of the much awaited swallowtail festival in Sandpoint and crowds are gathering for the opening ceremonies. Please head over to the Gameplay thread to introduce yourself to the town of Sandpoint and start your day. Think about where you spent last night – do you have a house in Sandpoint, or do you live in barracks or guild accommodation? If you have arrived from out of town, did you stay in an inn last night (probably the rusty dragon, although there are about half a dozen others if you prefer) or have you arrived this morning, either on foot or on a ship that has pulled into the harbour? The crowds are all heading to the town square, but feel free to persue other agendas if you wish. I am also providing here some further details about the campaign in the form of issues - the problems affecting the world that you might solve in some way - and some locations in Sandpoint. Issues Fate games are held together by issues - long and short term problems that affect the setting. They act like Aspects and can be Compelled (with GM approval) to make life more difficult (thereby gaining a Fte point) or Invoked (for the usual bonuses) by anybody at any time. The long term issue is (purhaps unsurprisingly) Rise of the Runelord - In pre-history Varisia was the site of a kingdom ruled by powerful sorceror-kings called Runelords. Their kingdoms fell long ago and now little is known about them, but they have left their mark on the land and its people. The land is scattered with their anceant ruins, and occasionally powerful runic artifacts show up in the hands of adventurers. This can be compelled when the History of Thassilon or its remnants make things difficult for the characters. It might also be possible to invoke at times if such things turn up in a beneficial way. The short term issue is Acts of Rage Several years ago an epidemic of nightmares flared up across Sandpoint. The epidemic died down just as quickly as it arose and nothing more was thought of it, however ever since tempers have been brittle and quick to flare. This was most evident in the months imediately after the nightmares as several murders were planned and carried out, and the town chapel was burned down in what has been remembered as "That Late unpleasantness." Feelings are still raw, but the worst has passed and sharp tempers have simply become a fact of life in Sandpoint. Increased anger seems to have affected the surrounding countryside as well, with increasing numbers of raids carried out by goblin tribes on farmsteads and merchant caravans, and increased seemingly pointless agression from nearby wildlife. This can be compelled when hot tempers would make a situation worse (through the PC's anger, an NPC's anger, or both). It could also be invoked when you can take advantage of peoples anger. Garrison Face: Sherrif Hemlock The Garrison houses barracks for the town guard, as well as the Gaol. Town Hall Face: Mayor Devlin
Rusty Dragon Face: Ameiko Kaijitsu

![]() It is early morning on the first day of Autumn, and already Sandpoint is buzzing with activity. After long years of building works and praying in makeshift wooden chapels, today is the day that the newly built Cathedral will be opened during the annual “Swallowtail festival.” The festival is always a highlight in the Sandpoint year, but with the opening of the Cathedral this year is extra special and the festival has been the hottest topic of conversation for months. The streets are packed as what seems like it must be the whole population of Sandpoint make their way to the central square where a speaking platform has been erected in front of the new chapel, ready for the opening ceremony to begin. Two aspects start in play across Sandpoint;

![]() Dimitri Pavlenco is the third son of a local family of minor nobles. From a young age he was fascinated with magic, and caused havok attempting to read the books of visiting wizards and attempting to utilise any magical devices he could get his hands on. Eventually his family relented and pulled strings to have him admitted to the Academy in Cheliax, sure that having a family member versed in foreign sorcery would only increase the families prestige.
I have swapped out a few minor details from the draught version as well as added background skills and traits

![]() OK, so I have drafted a character. Not sure how we are doing characteristics so i have gone with a 20 point buy. Can change things easily enough if necessary.

![]() I have two character concepts in mind. I posted them upthread, but will repost here for clarity.
![]()
![]() I think that assumption is fair, although some thought needs to go into what is done with those characters during the adventures their player is acting gm.
![]()
![]() Further to my expression of interest, I have a few character concepts to float 1) A Magus from Quadira. She has been hired by a noble family to instruct their daughter in swordplay and magic, however in addition her exotic features and dress have resulted in her becoming something of a novelty attraction and she is regularly 'invited' to parties and gatherings where she is made to feel somewhat of a spectacle. At least the pay is good.

![]() I would like to join in with this. I am new to actual play on these forums (so may need a little help getting around the forum specifics) but I have played in AP's elsewhere. I would like to play a wizard if possible, although if that role is not needed in the group I could happily shift to a gish of some sort (probably a magus but I could be persuaded to go with a cleric). Not sure about GMing something as complicated as Pathfinder due to time considerations, but let me get the hang of the site and I might be game to step in as GM a bit further into the campaign. Hope this gets off the ground. In the meantime I will peruse the players guide and mull over some character concepts. ![]()
