Tal takes the hit in stride and swipes his cheek whilst looking back at his father in annoyance."I see you haven't changed much. As to Jacobs, it was supposed to be a little spark to scare him, but the old fart drank so much whiskey his beard was soaked in it. You know how these nobles get with their precious beards..." He says absentmindedly as he inspects the house.
"Now, that is not the reason we are here father. We need a diviner and I'm sure you know of one or two. We need a localization spell cast on our two friends who just got kidnapped by those Norgorber fanatics. Time is of the essence here, So will you help us?"

Tal lifts his hat and his face returns to his old one for a moment, long enough for the father to see his son's black eyes peering back at him, before replacing it and returning to his previous disguise. "Satisfied senexhi?" Tal says using the word he often called his father when he was being authoritative.

As soon as they enter the magical shop Tal looks around to see if he can find anything amiss from the shop or his father. "Is mother still in trance or is she knocked out from the wine?" Tal knowingly lies at his father and tries to gauge the response to see if this is a shapeshifter as well. bluff: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 16

Tal stares him back for a moment and something clicks as he realizes something.
Daud is behaving like a loyal dog. Well more like a mut, but a loyal mut nontheless.

Tal's gaze softens as does his demeanor. He places a hand on Daud's shoulder and says. "I believe that, I do. And I want to get them back as soon as possible as well. Jessica and Kiley are both precious to me. But you, we can't help them from prison. In a city like this you achieve more with sweettalking than brute force. Let me try things my way first. It will be quicker and more effective."
He edges a little closer and whispers.

Daud:
"We need him to open the door first. But if he gets really problematic you can punch him and think its me. Once I signal you, okay?

Tal stands back and sees if his words have had its effect.

Tal starts to cast a spell, but stops himself. Instead he stands in front of Sunday and stares him down. "Stop being an idiotic brute for a moment and use that tiny brain for a moment. I just told you there are magical traps on the door. Do you seriously think trying to break it down will get you anywhere except third degree burns as well as bringing in the whole neighborhood on us when the alarm starts going off? Whatever is left alive of you after the smoke clears will be tossed in a dungeon as guards come. What good will you be to Kiley then hmmm? I know this city and the people in it. If you want to find Kiley and Jessica as soon as possible you need let me do the talking."

Tal slaps Sunday on the back of the head. "I told you to let me do the talking you fool. Noone here opens doors for strangers." Tal hisses at Sunday.
He sighs, knocks on the door again and speaks in elven.

"It is me, Talathel, in disguise. Open the door father. Two innocents lives are kidnapped by the same cult comitting the murders on the nobles and we need your help finding them. Time is of the essence here."

"My parents run a magical supply store. They create, enhance or magically alter items so they can be used for magical spells and rituals. The shop has a large customerbase among Magnimars spellcasters.

As to how difficult it is... it's a long story. Please just let me do the talking. My father is difficult enough as it is and getting him to open the door requires some tact already. Normally I would climb the window but I don't know if they changed the magical wards set on the house..." Tal says and waits for a response on the knock and if necessary knocks again.

in between delendir and sunday and the mansion:

As Delendir and Sunday are looking for a way back to the mansion a younger dark haired human pulls at Delendir's slave. "Any sign of them Delendir? You might not recognize me in this shape but you could see my origin if I tip my hat to you, if you catch my drift." The boy whispers to him.

After hearing that the trail is lost he guides them back to the mansion at high speed with only the words "I have a plan to find them, follow me."

Back at the mansion Tal stays in his current appearance but explains that he plans to visit his parents in an attempt to find a diviner to locate the two girls.

Should everyone agree to the plan Tal guides the group to his parent's house which is above their shop in the section of Magnimar where the craftsmen have their shops.

How is the timing between the kidnapping and the events happening with Kiley and Jessica? I have the feeling that they went quite quickly for them and not for us? Also, please have some freedom with what I sent you :)

"Right now a divination spell is our best option, and my parents are regrettably our best chance at finding a diviner.
I'll go see if I can't find Sunday and Delendir. They should stick out as sore thumbs in this city. You see if you can find enough materials of the two ladies that we could use for a spell. Right now we should stick together, they might want to try the same trick again if we are split up."
Tal says and with a tap on his hat his appearance changes to that of a teenage human with black curls. He heads out the door and runs into the direction Sunday and Delendir went in.

Tal shakes his head with an increasingly annoyed look on his face. "No I'm afraid I don't have any of those type of spells in my spell book.

But maybe we could search the town for a diviner...I'm sure my parents know one or two. They have a shop with magical ingredients, so they probably cater to someone who could cast such a spell."

Should we discuss in pm about Tal's parents and their relationship Salsa/Kiley? I had some things in mind based on his background and disappearance from the city.

Taking the note Tal walks downstairs to the others. "Like you said, the Skinsaw cult is behind the whole thing. Does anything within this note give any hints on where we can find them? Surely there are rumours about the cult, which alleys to avoid after darkness. Think!" Tal says with an urgent tone, pushing the note into the priest's hands.

Tal's face cringes in thought. "I have been sleeping and woke to you knocking on my door. Since I am awake now anyway, might as well go check. Whatever sent those creatures after Jessica's family might have sent others to check up on them. One moment while I grab my stuff." Tal whispers back and grabs his spellcomponent pouch, staff and coat. He walks around to the nightstand, pokes the tiny scorpion there to alertness and scoops it up and places it on his shoulder.

He moves back to Delendir and nods, closing his door behind him.
Now also have scorpion with me for additional perception checks

Tal had the midnight watch and toyed around with his scrolls while waiting for his guard posting to pass.
He wakes up one of the others to finish the morning session.

Wanted to have Tal meditate at the 4 four hours, guard the second 4 and just be awake but resting the last 4. Apparently elves only need 4 hours of sleep but do need 8 hours of rest for spells.

As some of his friends go to bed and others head into town, Tal goes into the elvish resting trance to rest and reevaluate the events of the day. Once rested enough he sends out his familiar to patrol the outside of the house and signal Tal if he spots any unfamiliar individuals. Tal in the meantime goes to examine the three faceless stalkers and their equipment. Perhaps there is something in their attire or gear that could give a hint of their origin.

Tal narrows his eyes and sighs at his companions missing the clues, unable to see the larger picture "It matters Delendir, because if it is true, like I assume, it means that they know who we are and we are actively being targeted, as are our loved ones. I don't care about blame at this point, I would not have minded killing them myself. But for next time, we are grasping at straws as it is. We need information, wherever we can get it. We were unable to get anything out of Tsuto until Grace tried it her way. Without the carrot, the stick is useless." Tal says frustratingly.

After a longer silence and as Delendir starts to rise Tal continues
"Either way, because we do not know if this was accidental or not, we should post guards, I'll take the middle one and head for bed. Who will take the first and last duty?"

I think they would have shared their motives if you did not make it so plain that we would kill them. If they were related to the events in Sandpoint in any way we just wasted an important source of information. Next time stay your blades and words if you can or we will never gain the advantage.

As to the bodies, I fear we have to alert the guards to the event to clean everything up. As well as arrange the buriel for Jessica's family members.

Which reminds me to check up on my own elders on the morrow..." Tal says with a cringe, not looking forward to the reunion.

What kind of knowledge roll is needed to identify the creature? And I think handwaving would be nice ;)

Besides you pronounce it wrong, elven pronounciation is quicker and the l in the middle is almost silent. It might not mean much to you, but most Magnemarians are educated enough to differentiate the two."
Tal says matter of factly, as if berating a child.
"Coincidentally, there was a Talwin whom was a well known half-elf in my circle who left town a few days before the incident to become an adventurer. A bit of a loudmouth and not very likable, but he bought a lot of drinks for his mates. Few know he actually died one day after leaving town when he was set upon by a bear. There was no way to identify the body, but I overheard a local druid about the attack and he discribed some of his gear. It was quite easy to disguise myself as him thanks to a spell from my mother. It was hard to hide the ears normally though, but we managed to shrink them a bit." Tal says with a shrug.

Before in sight of the gate, Tal changes his appearance to a different individual. He looks a bit sturdier, his elven ears are no longer there and his face become less chiseled and broader. His clothing become more fashionable compared to what he wore before.
"Look erm guys... I need to change my appearance for a while. Apparently the nobles take quite a bit offense if you semi-accidentally burn their beard off. It is quite the status symbol here. Needless to say I left Magnimar in a hurry. I am unaware if he still has a hit on my ears after two years, but just in case." Tal says with a bit a shame though he tries to make it sound more heroic than it was.

"That's true... the mephit is still about. With Nualia gone, it might go to release the demon below the goblin base to further it's own goals still.

And still Grace, it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side and try to enter the city with the least amount of attention. I doubt the know about Jessica's family since she is basically a stranger here. If we have to, her parents place is a good option to avoid the inns where new travellers do get noticed."
