After some careful consideration, I have decided not to continue on with this game and am respectfully withdrawing. I’m going to use any free time I have on other, personal projects I’ve been putting off for way too long. I’m hopeful that Tairin and Sabra can be quietly written out of the adventure once Dain starts up the game, again. (I don’t wish for her to be botted in game for I may repurpose her somewhere down the track.)
I’m thankful for the opportunity I’ve had to play alongside you guys and to have fun playing Tairin. I wish you all well and happy gaming. :)
Dain GM, have you considered taking on another mini adventure from the Xoth world, such as 'Land of the Silver Lotus' and its mysteries? It's a stand-alone sword and sorcery adventure, still set in the world of Xoth, and has the party sailing from Iraab in Zadj to the verdant isles of the Silver Lotus. (Since we're currently in Khazistan, we could always travel down to Zadj and go from there.) That way you can use the source material provided in this new mini adventure, Pathfinder compatible game, and tweak it accordingly, just like you did with The Spider Bride. You could incorporate all the mini character stories on this new adventure course (as a starting off point) and that way each character gets a chance to work toward meeting their personal goals/objectives while pursuing a greater party goal.
I am here for now; however I am presently considering taking an extended leave of absence from the Paizo board (with no set time frame on when I will be returning). At this stage, I'm simply but seriously thinking it over and haven't made up my mind entirely. I am unsure how much time you will need before resurrecting the game, Dain GM. Once I make up my mind, I'll advise further. Thanks.
Dain GM, do you have an idea when you will be restarting the game? I was just curious and I don't want us to lose too much momentum or motivation with the time lapsing. Thanks. :)
Everyone in my family (immediate and extended) are scotch drinkers except for me. I’ll sip on my piña colada. ;) Thanks for the bday wishes, Yasala & Mal. Hands you each a piece of birthday cake.
I didn’t miss it, Paten. I just didn’t want to write for your character in case you decided to change tact and do other things before meeting with Darius.
Bjoern, please check the discussion thread as I answered you there regarding the water supply to the manse. :)
Once she had refreshed her person and attire, Tairin returned to the main foyer, Sabra now settled inside the shawl pouch around her body. Giving instruction to Ben Kara as to her whereabouts and when she should be expected back at the house, Tairin made her way out the front door and down the steps to the courtyard below. Looking to Samir, Patenemheb (?) and Farrokh(?), she uttered, "I am ready, if you are," then turning to search for Bjoern working in the grounds of the manse, she mindfully called out, "Bear, I leave now for the smaller Yadaran temple. Do you wish to join me or would you rather stay and tend to whatever tasks you have found, here?" Once she received an answer from the Tharagian, Tairin made her way down and out the gates of the manse and began to make her way toward the temple in question and her first meeting with Darius Turan. Her eyes discreetly glanced about the surroundings, in an effort to gauge if their progress was being followed by someone outside their small, trusted group.
Perception to note if they are being followed:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19 Stealth to move without drawing undue attention or notice in the streets:1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
@Bjoern: This is from my personal notes. Regarding the water to the manse, there is a freshwater well located within a circular clearing in the garden. The well is 10 feet in diameter and 30 feet deep. The water comes from a natural wellspring that itself originates in the underwater springs that formed the oasis of Zul before the city was built. Private wells such as this are rare in the desert city; most houses are supplied by small aqueducts or by water carried from central wells.
Tairin had observed the discussion in relative silence since her opening words. Standing and reaching out to collect Sabra in her arms, she looked to Mal and simply stated with a nod of her head, "You have answered my questions." Looking to Talar, she added, "Since you have decided you shall have this man to aid you in your familial quest, and, will pay him using your own coin, there is nothing more I will add, except to wish you well in your search for Aisha. Perhaps this new inquiry will lead to the answers which you seek, Talar. Your love and loyalty toward your sister is a credit to you."
Moving away from the dining table, Tairin looked to Samir and then Patenemheb, "I have a meeting with the Yadaran priest, Darius, myself this day. I will withdraw to my personal chamber to prepare and then I shall meet you in the courtyard in due course." Gesturing to Hanala, she spoke quietly to the maid, "Please bring a bowl of scented water and fresh towels to my bedchamber immediately."
Tairin then made her way to the staircase to ascend to the top floor and her room to ready herself. Sabra's emerald green eyes stared thoughtfully at the other companions in the room a moment or two before leaning her head against her mistress' hand as Tairin pet the feline on their way to the upper floor of the manse.
Dain GM: Tairin's current plans are to visit/speak with Darius Turan at the smaller Yadaran temple regarding answers on how to truly rid the place or deal with the creature from the black, endless pit in the Moon temple (and barring any new leads which may come from this meeting), return to the manse and continue her study of the library and the tomes within. After her evening meal, she will visit the Temple of Belit-Lil and speak with High Priestess Jelah. Thanks. :)
As he spoke Bear's tongue, she was grateful for Bjoern's tutelage in his native tongue. "You have recently arrived in Zul-Bazzir? I am curious to know what has brought you to this fine city?" Tairin discreetly glanced at Bjoern to see if he had any reaction to the newcomer or his Tharagian words.
Mal wrote:
"The 'officials' I've seen here are more like to have you owing them -more- after you think you have paid... I would send a buxom slave with a cask of gold of count on seeing neither ever again and consider myself ahead of the game!"
Tairin lowered her cup of wine onto the table and merely nodded, "Indeed. I am certain there are numerous ways to get ahead of the game in this great city."
Sabra swished her tail back and forth, sensing her mistress' present mood.
"Perhaps you did not hear my question, so I will ask it again. Have you recently arrived in Zul-Bazzir? And, if so, what has brought you here? You have me curious." A small smile played across her lips.
On hearing Mal Steelcutter's words to Bjoern, Tairin was not sure whether she should be amused or annoyed. So, she answered his question in a firm, yet reasonable manner, "And, to answer your question, I am not property; chattel to be given to the victor. Please be mindful of your words as a guest in this house." Tairin had escaped the immediate reach of her late father and five elder brothers; yet to be viewed as a prize still did not sit well with her. Her kinsmen had attempted to usurp her will and had failed. She would be the victor and not the prize.
Talar stands as Tairin enters. "I hope all went well on your mission this morning?" He inquires.
"My head aches, yet we came away with what we desired from the meeting," she answered Talar with a modicum of vagueness she deemed appropriate for now, given there was a stranger among them. She would give Talar and Samir a better rundown of Thoth-Apep's words once they had some privacy.
Talar wrote:
"This is Mal Steelcutter. This morning I devised a new plan to to retrieve my sister... Samir and I met Mal and he fits the criteria perfectly. He can disguise himself and he has a flair for the dramatic, and even if things turn to blades he will be able to hold his own. But since we would be so heavily involved with each other I thought it wise for you to meet him first, as well as request assistance in the finer details of my plan."
Tairin blinked a few times - the only outward sign of what she thinking privately about how the two companions had encountered the stranger and then brought him into their fold. Least he wished for us to meet this man... yet it would have been better had we had this conversation away from the intended...Ah, well.
"It is sensible that we should all meet your new friend," is all she added for now to Talar's plan for this unknown Mal Steelcutter.
Mal wrote:
"Everyday, is a good day, for revelry," Mal exclaims, almost reflexively, not yet looking at the speaker. He's not being rude, he's just demonstrating that he is no servant, to jump and lick at the slightest demand.
She wrinkled her nose at the man's offhanded remark, yet she remained passive and outwardly bemused, "It is good and well, then, that you do not find our generous hospitality lacking," Sabra's emerald eyes levelled on the new man and she stared hard; as if scouring the man's soul.
Mal wrote:
but when he at last lays eyes on the speaker, he is quick to jump to his feet. His eyes quickly rove over the Lady Tairin in due appreciation. "And a good day to you, Lady Tairin! I am Mal, Steelcutter, and I was just enjoying the company of my good friend Talar. We met once in the quaintest little refreshment establishment and were just catching up on old times."
Sense Motive on Mal's words/explanation(DC 16):1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
And, yet, you are in my home and your first instinct is to lie to me...
Again, she was bemused by the roving eyes; her beauty had always received such instant attention. Yet, what was the man playing at with his half-truths?
Sabra gave a low *hiss* upon the man's words to her mistress and continued staring at him; the emerald depths endless and coaxing.
"Welcome, Mal Steelcutter. You have recently met Talar and already you have become such firm friends? I do marvel at such a capacity to trust. Indeed, what a marvel," she continued in steady, polite voice as she took a sip from the cup of wine in her hand.
Mal wrote:
"I must say my compliments to thy architect!" he proclaims, slowly closing the distance. "A more elegant house I've not seen in all my time. Thy servants are above reproach and thy hospitality is to be commended."
Tairin smiled as the conversation turned to the cursory appreciation of the manse. "We inherited it from an acquaintance, which is an unexpected boon. I am pleased you find its architecture and decoration to your taste." Tairin gave a small incline of her head, acknowledging the man's pleasant compliment even though she did not have any hand in constructing or decorating the estate. Tairin delicately picked up a small, honeyed fig and took a little bite, savouring its soft texture and sweetness.
Mal wrote:
He came a step closer, and was pleased that he at least was choosing his words well. "You return just now? Wherefore hast thou come from?" he asked, fully batting attention away from his person and onto woman. "No doubt some visit of import to do High Dealings with matters of great coin involved? I beg thee, let my presence not be a burden, and do let me know," he bends down low, taking her hand and kissing it gently, "for however way you would have me...service you. Or, as they say in my country, was gibt es sonst noch für Sehenswürdigkeiten in deiner Stadt, außer dir?" he finishes, letting the double-entendre hang as he stands and reinforces his iron-clad grin.
Sabra rose from her cushion as the man had drawn closer to her mistress. The black kitten moved to stand before her mistress's plate; thick black tail swishing back and forth; acting as a shield for Tairin. Tairin's hand moved slowly over to the little feline and stroked her head - the place between the kitten's ears - to soothe the brave, agitated kitten. Sabra nestled back against the hand/fingers and gave a soft purr; yet her eyes did not leave the man, Mal Steelcutter.
Tairin answered as nonchalantly as social etiquette dictated in the moment, "As you can imagine, meeting with city officials is something that is common practice among our station and society. And, yet, there is still much to do this day. I cannot complain. To be sought after is not unwelcome." She allowed her free hand to be kissed by the man, Mal Steelcutter. Least he is not unattractive...and knows how to wield fine manners when he has cause to.

Nice rp and formally welcome to the game, Mal. Tairin isn't the trusting sort ... and she is seeing how honest or at least semi-trustworthy you can be before making a full judgement or commenting on Talar's plan re including you in his scheme to get back his sister, Aisha.
Tairin's forehead furrowed upon her return to the manse. She was washing the grime from her hands with the clean towel as she listened to Paten's instruction. Tairin nodded in agreement at Paten's caution to speak after meeting the unknown guest.
Handing back the soiled hand towel, she spoke in a steady, yet authoritative manner, "Kara Ben, I gave strict instruction not to permit guests into the house in our absence." This was a mistress speaking a little sternly to her lead servant whom she had placed her trust unto. The encounter with Thoth-Apep had raised her ire and the meaning of his dark vision was still forefront in her mind.
Kara Ben wrote:
"I did not wish to turn away our guest; yet he came in the presence of your companions who are... less civilized. As S'bu had little to do at this hour, I thought it advisable to place him with the others as a precaution," he says with a cordial bow.
Tairin sighed low and long. So, on this day, the remaining two members of their group decided to bring a stranger into their home and thought to entertain said person... Was this guest someone of influence and power in the city?
"You did well to insist S'bu stay inside the house to keep order if something goes awry. We must go and discover who this important visitor is," she gave a quick nod and then a small smile toward Kara Ben to show him she held no ill will. Turning on her heel, Tairin moved with sure, steady steps toward the entrance of the manse; showing a pace more steady than the one earlier in the day; as if she had grown accustomed to her new gait.
Moving through the door and into the main house, she followed the sound of conversation and came upon the feasting Talar, Samir and third man. Her dark brow raised in query.
"Oh, what a fine day it is for revelry. I hope all is well, here?" Tairin's dark eyes fell on Talar and Samir before fixing on the stranger. She set a smile on her face - cordial as was her manner with any new visitor to their home. She still did not know the station, rank or purpose of this man in her home, so she would play the role of gracious host and lady in residence.
"Good day, sir. My companions and I were not expecting a guest after noonday, but of course you are welcome in our home. I am Lady Tairin. May we know your name, sir? What has brought you to us?'

Tairin removed and handed her light, travelling cloak to Hanala; gently bringing forth Sabra from her pouch before moving to the table, setting the black kitten down on her cushion, pouring herself a cup of wine, instructing Hanala to bring a bowl of water for her pet and then waiting upon the stranger's response.
Tairin listened thoughtfully to Thoth-Apep's recollection of his vision. She did not interrupt; merely nodding at appropriate junctures of the vision to let him know she was considering the meaning and purpose.

If any of the rolls reveal any usual information, Tairin will share it with the others after they have left the Temple District and returned to the sanctuary/privacy of the manse.
When the high priest was done, an expressionless Tairin stood, careful of Sabra still nestled and hiding inside the shawl pouch before her, and politely responded, "You have given us much to think on, Hem-Netjer-Tepi. We will consider your words and ponder the images within. Thank you for being concerned with our welfare and for your hospitality. We will take our leave now. May the remainder of your day be peaceful, Hem-Netjer-Tepi." Tairin gave a cordial smile and bowed her head in due respect before gesturing for Bjoern to move before her, leading the way out to the awaiting litter. There, she moved and settled herself inside the litter, waiting for Paten and Yasala to do the same before signalling her guards to get in position and for their retinue to depart.
Diplomacy to end meeting on a good/pleasant social note:1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 14 + 2 = 36
"I shall put forth my resources to acquiring information for you. Do not trouble yourself over a price - for now you may simply consider yourself in my debt," he says, a gleam in his eye.
Tairin inwardly groaned at the mention of a debt to be repaid by Yasala. Outwardly she sat, hands clasped before her; a neutral expression/small smile on her face.

"There are many threats and dangers in the city, and surrounding it. A wise man will study those things before him closely before acting, though," he says with a slow, measured tone.
"You are in the house of the late sorcerer, an easterner, as I recall. His absence is noted, yet whatever precipitated his leave must have been something of undue power," he adds, his eyes watching your party flatly.
Tairin continued to smile as she answered politely and rather undisturbed by the implication of his words, "Perhaps, having fulfilled his goals in the city, Master Zheng-Ya returned to his rightful place. People come and go; especially in larger cities. Yet, I will be mindful of your caution and your earnest reminder of the threats and dangers in this city. Thank you, Hem-Netjer-Tepi," courteously inclining her head to Thoth-Apep.
Thoth-Apep wrote:
"Well; it was good to meet with you all again. I am certain that we shall grow very lose in time. Until then I urge you all to visit me whenever you wish; I will be delighted to take you on as visitors at any time." At that he rises and it seems that the visit is concluded.
Tairin isn't as quick to rise and smiles up at the standing priest. "Before we leave, we understood from your messenger, Hoteth, that you have received some kind of divination which you wished to urgently share with us. May we know what it is, Hem-Netjer-Tepi?"

Perhaps it would be cleaner if the side mission Talar & Mal are on (their rp) is kept under spoilers so as to not confuse the main group’s rp with Thoth-Apep? Just a suggestion.
And, welcome to your official entrance into the game, Mal. :)
If her late father could not make her feel inferior then this priest was certainly not going to undermine her sense of self and station. Stupid, ugly man, she mused privately, masking her true feelings/emotions from the eyes of Thoth-Apep or any other in the room.

Tairin placed a steady/cordial smile on her face and responded in steady politeness, "You are a most considerate host. Some refreshment is certainly welcome," even as the man's face was fixed on Paten at her exclusion. I was reared to master such politics, high priest. Let us begin. At her inner thoughts, Sabra inside the shawl pouch, rubbed her small nose against Tairin's abdomen in a show of accord.
Thoth-Apep wrote:

Yet my sources indicate that there was simply so much blood and carnage there… well, certainly you are not capable of performing such destruction...I am certain that the authorities will come to me soon for my own report. After all, my own people were slain – and the loss of property as well – but I wished to meet with you first, as you were eye-witnesses to the killing, and so gain your opinions and observations. In this way I can allay the concerns of the authorities when they question me,””
Tairin turned her eyes downcast as if distressed by the news of such killing; shaking her head in disbelief. She then looked to the high priest, her eyes gentle and steady, "I wish we could have known that such scoundrels had ventured onto the holy lands in your charge and perpetrated these atrocities. Your sense of loss is great and it saddens my heart. In hearing about the bloodshed and carnage at this present time, I am sickened by what has transpired and on such sacred ground. That very night, we went searching for two of our people who had gone missing without word. They were not within the city proper and so we enlarged our search for we had feared something terrible had befallen them. Fortunately, they were discovered, having wildly ridden off to cool their heads. I scolded them for their recklessness. This is why we may have been seen near the holy site in question; although I cannot know for certain for it was dark even with the moonlight. We, however, did not witness the killings in question or the perpetrators, for our minds were otherwise occupied with fear for our people. Let me reassure you that we would not undertake such blatant and abhorrent behaviour to a noble person we hold in great esteem in this city we have made our home. Perhaps these killings occurred after we had reunited with our missing friends and returned to the city. I wish we could have seen something of import to help in the official inquiry. The perpetrators must not go unpunished. We will, of course, aid you in making discreet inquiries, if this is helpful? However, we do not wish to interfere in the official investigation conducted by the Bey's men. So, I will follow your counsel in this matter."

To the party present at this meeting: The two companions Tairin is referring to are Samir and Talar. It isn't a far stretch as Talar had ridden off earlier in anger re his sister and Samir is consistently going off on his own, so Tairin is playing that storyline/angle at this time.
I haven't heard back from Dain GM re any information in the marketplace that Tairin may have learned about Darius Turan via her Diplo roll. I'll post this next part with the Thoth-Apep meeting in the meantime.
Having freshened up and having adorned herself appropriately, Tairin sat in the litter; Sabra nestled inside the silken scarf/pouch around her body and her companions in their positions. Each jostle in the litter made her want to grit her teeth as the streets of Zul-Bazzir were indeed narrow and windy and her body was not happy with the jarring movements. She did not complain; instead she lounged as a woman of power and wealth would do as she moved about a great city within a litter. Occasionally, she glanced beyond the curtain to the alleys/streets see if anyone was following them.
Perception to note anyone following them:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
When they had reached the house of Thoth-Apep, Tairin gestured Farrokh forward, "Please announce the arrival of the Lady Tairin, Lord Patenemheb, esteemed envoy - Yasala of the Jul-Juggans of Zimballah and their guard to the servants of the House of Thoth-Apep." Tairin remained in the litter with the others; casting a quick glance at Bjoern waiting by the litter, until Farrokh had knocked and advised the head servant of their arrival and intention to meet with their master. They had arrived on time and she was glad for it. She smiled at her companions as if to say, Let the games begin.
After the usual official welcome and admittance was made, Tairin gracefully alighted from the litter; nestling Sabra's form inside the scarf and entered through the familiar door of Thoth-Apep. Following any servant's direction to the place the Yar-Ammonite priest was waiting, Tairin placed a small, cordial smile on her face and walked with steady steps until she stood before Thoth-Apep.
Tairin inclined her head in due reverence; yet the arched gesture was not too low/pronounced for she considered her rank and station to be above that of the priest waiting before her; being closely related to the Queen of the Old Kingdom, as she was.
"Greetings, Hem-Netjer-Tepi Thoth-Apep. It is good to meet you once again. My sincere apologies for not visiting earlier in the day - as you can most certainly understand, there is much work to attend to when running a great household. I, and my companions, are grateful for your patience and gracious invitation. You are familiar with my kinsman, Lord Patenemheb, and these are our personal guards. This fine patron is Yasala, an emissary of the Jul-Juggans of Zimballah and our guest in the city. She expressed a sincere desire to make your acquaintance. I hope you do not mind." Tairin gestured elegantly toward Yasala and then waited until she was given leave to sit by the master of the house. As she waited, she added courteously, "Your messenger, Hoteth, said you had matters of great import to discuss with us. We would be glad for your counsel."

I like what I see of Mal and look forward to reading his rp to get a better impression of his personality and character.
I think it's good to have another fighter in the group, as it appears we'll be doing more side quests in downtime. Having another PC fighter free to, for eg, travel with Tairin or Paten as they go about the city gathering information and forging alliances, will be useful. Bjoern is great at the 'hitting hard' business, yet he isn't much of a talker and isn't a stealthy sort (he's a more in your face kind of guy). Yasala is a fighter and has the ability to speak and be cunning, which is good. Another roguish, clever/cunning sort, that is good with knives and daggers, appeals to me.
A general question: Will there be a story tie-in between Bjoern and Mal, being they are both Tharagians?
Tairin listened as Paten disclosed his and the others' interaction with Darius Turan.
"We do not know much about Zheng-Ya, although this manse and its contents speak of dark magic and mysteries. If Thoth-Apep is a close associate of his, we must tread carefully to discover the Yar-Ammonite's agenda now Zheng-Ya is gone. It appears Thoth-Apep and Hassan Sadi were allies of a kind or else the Guard Captain would not have harassed and accused Darius and the Yadarans. I do not particularly like exchanging favours in this city; yet I understand such politics and will speak to him with this in mind as I am no mercenary. I will quietly ask about Darius in the marketplace, as Samir has suggested, to determine the general feeling toward the priest in this city. I would like to go into my meeting with Darius Turan with as much information as I can. Thank you, Paten."
Samir wrote:
”With respect, noble born, there are no carriages for use inside the city limits. However, I can certainly hire you a litter so that slaves may carry you instead?” he asks.
"A litter is fine, so please go ahead and hire one, Samir. We must perpetuate the impression of our present power and wealth in this city. It appears we must play the game."

Some questions in particular... She'll ask in a cordial, casual way as if she wishes to know more about the priest/faiths in the city being she is new to Zul-Bazzir.
What is your general impression of the Yadaran priest, Darius Turan? Is he a man of his word or someone who does not care for the plight of the people of this city?
Is Darius Turan a man of some import in the city? Who does he consider his friends and which people or groups do not like him?
How long has he been living and instructing the Yadaran faithful in Zul-Bazzir? Are his followers peaceful or more inclined to arouse trouble in the city?
Also, and generally, Tairin wants to get an impression of his personality, general habits, customs, dealings with others, his integrity, likability, power status and honesty... That will help her in how she approaches and speaks with Darius. Thanks! Okay, that's all I'm going to post from my phone to conserve battery until my power is back on later this afternoon. Then I can post more, if needs be.
I'm a little confused; I was told that the Guard Captain that you guys have now killed, the relation of the Bey, was named Hassan Sadi. Is he both a nobleman and the corrupt fool Guard Captain enraging Darius?

"Your initiative is to be applauded," in regard to venturing out to learn the news in the city, "Yet, perhaps, in the future, you may leave word for us with the servants or a note, so we do not have to question your whereabouts, Samir. Thank you."
Samir wrote:
"If anyone during that fight was followed is it possible that everyone in that fight may have been followed... be cautious, the streets are full of eyes," he adds glancing around the group.
When Samir's talk turned to the deaths of Sabiha, Captain Sadi and the others, Tairin gritted her teeth a little and gave a simple nod. "I am certain we all understand the need for caution and vigilance, especially at present."
Samir wrote:
"Mysterious masked men are of no consequence to me generally; but the description of his bow... we have seen a masked man carrying a bow like this in the past, but that was as far back as Susrah... that is a long way..."
Talar wrote:
"Somebody following you since Susrah? This was before my time with you, do I need to know about this?" He asks the others.
"I have not forgotten this man and have kept watched for him as we have travelled. Between us, there is an abundance of skill tracking and finding shadows in the dark, yet we have not sighted him in a while. This man either has the grace and cunning of a cat, is a true master of disguises and can blend in a crowd or can cast spells to hide his form. Yasala has not heard of him, as yet. Neither has Talar. We first crossed paths with this mystery bowman when we stopped to replenish our water during the journey through Kharjah Pass on our way to Susrah. He did not speak with us; simply watched from the shadows of the camp fire. We have seen signs of him; not directly, but we conceived he could be in the vicinity. If he has followed us for some time now, as Samir has conjectured, and has not attempted to kill us, then this man has another agenda. It would be good to know who he is and what he means to do. If we could only gain firm information on the man with the great bow."
Samir wrote:
"Did I miss anything of note?" he asks your company.
Yasala wrote:
"While I ready myself, would someone else be so kind as to catch him up on what he might have missed? Tairin, I need about an hour alone if I am to make the most out of our upcoming audience with the priest; I shall meet you in the market after your shopping if that is acceptable"
Hearing Yasala speak, Tairin looked across to her before continuing with Samir. "Once we are done in the market, I wish to return to the manse and freshen up - perhaps dress a little finer as Thoth-Apep is a man who values obvious grandeur and nobility. Paten and I must dress as high nobles of Yar-Ammon if this man is to treat us accordingly, so I applaud you for wishing to dress for your role as envoy. I will inform Samir of what we will be doing this day and I will see you in an hour."
Turning back to Samir, "We had an unexpected guest this morn - Hoteth, messenger of the Yar-Ammonite High Priest Thoth-Apep of the Temple District. He has divined something or another and wishes to speak with us urgently. I told his aide that a few of us would visit Old Town at noontide. Talar wished to undertake his own private inquiries, so myself, Paten, Yasala and Farrokh will be meeting with Thoth-Apep. Firstly, I must see that Bjoern has new armour or an order is made with the local smithy. Then we meet up with the others and ride to the Old Town. This afternoon, I wish to meet with Darius Turan in the small Yadaran temple in the city."
Samir wrote:
"Samir...what plans do you have for the rest of the day? The others have a...more important meeting to get to, but I could use your help in digging up more leads on my sister."
Tairin nodded. "That sounds like a fine idea. Best to travel in a pair if there is some kind of trouble brewing in the city due to the deaths of Sabiha, Sadi and their people. We can all meet back at the manse later this afternoon."
Calling out to Farrokh, "Please hire a carriage for us - Paten, Yasala, myself and Sabra will travel in it to Thoth-Apep's house as fits our noble and esteemed positions. You and Bjoern can drive and guard us, as always."
Tairin then left word for S'bu and Kara Ben not to permit any person onto the manse grounds or into the house in their absence. She told her servants not to inform any person of their true whereabouts, if asked by the visitor, to simply say the masters are out procuring certain goods for the house. Tairin also advised the servants keep keen watch for anyone observing the property or attempting to find a way inside. She also gave word to Kara Ben and the house maid that they would return to the manse late in the day.
She then collected her coin pouch and placed her weapons upon her person, tucked Sabra into a shawl pouch around her neck/across her body and bid her companions farewell as Tairin made her way to the market with Bjoern.
"We should be back within the hour. Ready yourselves. We have a long day ahead of us."
Okay. Tairin has made her rolls and Bjoern has clarified that he wishes custom-made armour and so I leave that up to him and Dain GM to work out. Tairin has played her part in trying to gain good prices for her bodyguard. I am uncertain how long this shopping trip will take; however Tairin will return within the hour to the manse, as promised, to fresh up and leave with the small party for Thoth-Apep's home. Dain GM, what do you need from us now? Can we move onto the meeting, and, if so, do you need us to toss up all the relevant rolls or wait until we meet the high priest face to face?
Based on your race and backstory, I'm supposing then that Mal has the following languages:
Tharag Thulan and Lamuran from starting race
Sushranite (bonus language (like Common for us) and ties in with time spent both in Susrah and Gazor)
and plus 1 for INT bonus: Khazistani (both from interactions with wheat merchants and also time spent in Amenti)?
Bjoern, in Dain GM's most recent post, he said that the market has M/W Half Plate, so you could purchase that via Tairin's diplomacy roll at "book price".
As for the helm, there was no mention by Dain, so perhaps that may need to be custom made?
Dain did say Bjoern could bring the remains of whatever armour he originally had on him to a local, expert smith who could craft a duplicate - this may take weeks in game to craft, however, and will cost around 30% more than standard price.
I'll put this roll, here, in case, Bjoern does decide to have custom made or duplicated armour and accouterments.
Tairin's Diplomacy with blacksmith if Bjoern wants something custom made or his previous armour duplicated:1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 2 = 32
"Who among you wishes to come; and when will my master expect you?" he adds.
With the many voices of those in the room weaving around her head, Tairin directed her attention first to the Yar-Ammonite aide,
"Hoteth," she let the name linger in the air for a moment to still the general impatience of the aide and also lend a greater edge of authority that he should be mindful of.
Then looking to each of the companions in the room to assure them she had heard their respective voices, Tairin continued speaking with the aide,
"There will be five attending the meeting. Lord Patenemheb and I, the esteemed envoy, Yasala of the Jul-Juggans, and two personal bodyguards, Bjoern and Farrokh. And, of course, my Sabra. We will be pleased to meet with the honourable high priest in two hours time; giving us opportunity to take care of some personal matters before the long ride to the Old Town. We thank you for delivering the message."
Tairin then rose steadily, taking care of her general motion, and gestured for the major domo to enter the room, "Kara Ben, escort our guest to the gates and then gather the servants in the dining hall for further instruction." She gave a purposeful nod and then turning her gaze and smile on the aide, she added upon his impending departure, "I bid you good ride, Hoteth. We will see your master at noontide."
Once the aide was escorted out of the manse and gates, Tairin then turned to her companions, especially as Bjoern returned ready to leap into action, "First, Bear, you and I will go to the marketplace to fit you with new armour. The Temple District is more than it seems and there are known and unknown dangers; just as we have seen with the Moon Temple, there."
Then proceeding to all the party, "Farrokh is intimate with the social niceties and undercurrents of the city, so it is best we bring him along as Paten's man. We will continue to assert that Yasala is a newly-arrived envoy of Zimballah. It will aid her in her task. Paten and I have made inquiries there pertaining to female slaves who fit the description of Talar's sister. However, we did not learn anything of importance. We will keep our ears and eyes open in Thoth-Apep's house and district. The priest man is cunning, well-connected and has a keen skill with wordplay. Let us not provoke him at the moment. We do need more answers. I would like to learn what he has seen in his divinations, if there were such. Be mindful of the heady incense in the house for it can cloud one's mind and perhaps loosen lips. If you find your mind wandering, find an open space and take some air. The ride to Old Town is around an hour long. I will aid Bear in his purchases and then we will meet and begin our ride to the Temple District."
And remembering something, she added, "Thoth-Apep believes that Paten and I are noble, distant kinsman. I would see he continues to believe the tale of our familial connection. And, be mindful of what you say aloud, for there are ears all over the place; readily waiting to share our words with their master. Let us be more clever than this priest."
Looking over at Talar, "If you mean to go make inquiries into your sister's whereabouts, please be mindful and watch to see if you are being followed. Try not to provoke any person or put yourself in a dangerous situation, for you have no ready ally by your side. If you cross paths with Samir, let him know he must return the manse as soon as he is able and inform him of what has transpired and where we have gone. Once we return from the meeting, Yasala will be free to assist you in your undertaking, Talar, as well as any other. I mean to go see the Yadarian, Darius Turan, later this day. I wish you well in your search, Talar."
"I will advise the servants not to grant any visitor entrance into the manse and to await our return. If Samir returns here, without crossing paths with us, then Ben Kara can inform him of our whereabouts. I wish I knew where Samir's gone off to. This taking off without word will not do."
"Do any of you have any further questions before we start the day?" she asked her companions.
====
Tairin's plans for the day: Go to the market now with Bjoern and purchase his new armour. Then refresh herself, meet Paten, Yasala and Farrokh and all five of us will head out to the Temple District (I recollect it was an hour's ride, however I may be wrong? It's at least 30 mins ride from memory...) Meet Thoth-Apep and hear what he has to say. Then return to town later in the day and go see Darius Turan at the small Yadaran temple in the city. If Tairin needs to meet with Priestess Jelah, she will do that after speaking with Darius and then will meet back at the manse to debrief and discuss the events of the day with the party.

Just some rolls to start the ball rolling with Tairin, Sabra and Bjoern buying armour. Not sure if the GM wants to rp the detail/conversation? Please let me know, Dain GM.
Tairin's Perception to see if we're being followed to the marketplace:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22(+2 to Tairin's check from Sabra's assist, for a total of 24.) //"Tairin, are you certain you wish to commit to going with this man now? Thoth-Apep may get the idea that he can order us on his whim. We should at least draw what information we can from him before making a decision."//
Taking a small silken kerchief from the pocket of her skirt, Tairin lifted it to her lips as if to stem another cough and slightly turned her head, and, replied in whisper through her spell, so all of her companions could hear her reply but not the aide,
"//I commit to nothing at present, Paten. I do wish to know more before we proceed. I merely suggested I go, if the time comes. I concur to gaining some answers."//
Bluff to hide whisper/slightly moving lips away from the aide:1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22 Stealth to slightly turn head away from direct gaze of aide:1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
Lowering the kerchief to her lap and twining her fingers, Tairin returned her steady gaze upon the aide; awaiting his reply.
For the rp to make sense and flow better from our original rp set up, I'm playing it that the aide was brought into the sitting room to meet with us (not us going out to the courtyard).
Thoth-Apep's aide wrote:
"I come from his Excellency, Thoth-Apep. He has met with some of your company before and wishes to meet with them again."
"You are advised to make his acquaintance. He wishes to meet with you and I am to escort you," he adds with an officious tone.
Still mildly uncomfortable seated as she was and awaiting the aide, Tairin positioned herself more comfortably and placed a cordial lady of the manor smile upon her face as the aide was brought into the room to speak with them.
"Greetings. I am Lady Tairin. I, and my kinsman, Lord Patenemheb, are newly acquainted with High Priest Thoth-Apep. You have not given your name and I wish to know with whom I am speaking with, if you would be so kind. Also, what is the reason for this urgency? Cannot this meeting wait until later in the day, for my people and I have urgent matters to attend to in the city this day. I understand your master's esteemed position and I mean no disrespect. Your visit to our home is most unexpected is all." Tairin's voice remained steady and collected for they were in their home and had the position of power on this ground. Her smile was cordial enough - as a lady of the manor meeting with an aide lower in station than herself.
Diplomacy to engage the stern, annoying man and keep him somewhat appeased:1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 Sense Motive on the man - trying to get a sense of the man - his mood, temperament or trustworthiness:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Tairin paused and waited for the aide to introduce himself for it was rude to presume he could come into their place of residence and make demands and expect them to jump like some trained pets.
As she waited for the aide to tell her/them his name, Tairin caught Yasala's gaze and then listened to the whispered proposals made by both Talar and Yasala.
Touching the copper bracelet at her wrist and very discreetly pointing a finger in the direction of each of her companions in the sitting room, Tairin lifted her hand to her mouth as if to cough and quietly uttered in Yar-Ammonite, //"Risaela."//
Stealth to cast Message/gesture without drawing notice from aide:1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34 Bluff to give impression she is stifling a cough:1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Nodding her head toward Sabra, the growing kitten seemed to intimately understand and hopped off her cushion to wind around the feet of the aide to distract him from noticing her mistress and companions. The kitten tumbled playfully by his feet to continue to draw more of his immediate attention.
//"You can all discreetly hear me. I will go meet with Thoth-Apep. Bjoern has no armour, so one of the other fighters can accompany me; such as Yasala. If you all mean to go, so be it."//
(The spell lasts an hour, has a range of 160ft and requires a Perception check DC 25 for someone outside of the party to hear the whispered messages.)
Tairin lowered her hand from her face/mouth for now and smiled; pretending to gesture Sabra away from the aide's legs so he could speak and answer her/them without the antics of the kitten to bother him. Sabra moved slightly away and sat down a few feet from the aide; swishing her thick, ebony tail back and forth on the expensive floor rug; watching with glittering emerald eyes and purring softly.
Patenemheb nods to Tairin approvingly at her words.
"I am not opposed to assistance, especially not from a learned scion of the Kingdom."
He thinks briefly.
"If my time ends up being freed up by your assistance, I may attempt to garner a more reliable handle on temple politics in this city. I am disgusted by a certain other scion of the Kingdom and would see his influence curtailed - or ended."
Inclining her head at the compliment, Tairin added to Paten, "There is also the laboratory in the bowels of this manse you had wished to investigate further, if I rightly recollect? Or, have you already done so? And, do you make reference to the High Priest, Thoth-Apep? He would have some influential connection in the city and we must uncover this as well before anything can be done about him. His arrogance must stem from more than his robust self-admiration." Tairin grew quiet in reflection of the Yar-Ammonite priest.
=====
Little retcon and present time ? with Farrokh and the servants.
Tairin scowled upon learning none in the household knew of Samir's whereabouts. "It will not do to have members of this household come and go as they please and without so much as a word to their destination or time of return. From this point on, we should all endeavour to relay such information to one another in case of threat or need." Looking directly at Farrokh, Tairin added, "I will return later this morning to work in the library. Once Samir appears, I wish him to be sent to me immediately, and, if he does not return by sundown, then I must learn of this, too, and then we shall have to go in search of him. Thank you, Farrokh."
At mention of the parchment left by Osan, Tairin gestured for Farrokh to bring it to her and she broke the seal and glanced over its contents before reading it aloud to the others around the table. "Osan makes no mention of the name of this aide, however, we will meet with him upon sunset, if you are all in agreement and are available? I will make myself available, in any case. Farrokh, please advise the servants that we shall have company this evening and to prepare a light, yet fine repast. At the gate, please let S’bu know to give entrance to Osan bey's aide after sunset. Thank you."
Kara Ben - major domo wrote:
"Your pardon gracious lords and ladies," he says with a courteous voice "there is a messenger from the foreign priest; one Thoth-Apep. He seeks an audience with you, but I told him to wait in the courtyard for your convenience."
....
"What shall I tell him?"
How strange that we mention Thoth-Apep's name and his man appears at our door...
Tairin lifted her hand as if to calm the head servant. "It is alright, Kara Ben. This aide, did he give his name? Was it Makalani by chance? If so, Lord Patenemheb and I know this man from the "Old Town". If it some other, I would know his name and then you may escort him into the main sitting room, please. We shall meet with him, there, for he would not care to be met by us in the courtyard." Tairin nodded, giving the major domo leave to return to the waiting and impatient aide.
Looking around her companions, Tairin simply added, "It is wise we see what the aide and his master the high priest wish of us. I have an ill feeling. Let us see what this is about."
Wiping her mouth with the linen cloth by her plate and gently standing from her chair, Tairin collected Sabra from her pillow on the table and began to move from the dining room into the main sitting room to await their unexpected guest. She settled herself on the plush sofa, laying the kitten on the pillow to her right, leaving room for others to share the seat with her, if they decided to join her.
I"I aim to mainly remain in the manse for the time being but am most willing to provide aid such as financing or surgery as necessary. I intend to make inventory of the words in this place and understand their import in entirety."
Upon hearing Paten's endeavours regarding the library, Tairin responded to him, "I began work in there yesterday and there is certainly much to do. I wish to continue this undertaking during my days, when there are not more pressing matters to attend to. A second set of eyes and pair of hands will possibly make the cataloguing less arduous, if you are happy with the arrangement? I will not get in your way, Paten; I merely wish to gain more knowledge and determine what valuable resources we have at hand." She gave a gentle nod. Tairin's hand reached out to continue stroking Sabra's soft, furred ear.
Tairin then turned her gaze to Bjoern, "I will come to the market with you this morning, attend my meeting and then return to the manse to work in the library. I am uncertain if we will find the exact match of the armour you are accustomed to, Bear; yet we can still find you practical armour in the city, to meet your immediate needs." Her Northman companion certainly took the brunt of the blows in the party and needed to be fitted for armour forthwith. She did not wish to see him needlessly endangered, for danger seemed to be a ready part of their lives these days.
Dain GM, Tairin will wait to hear from the servants/Farrokh in regard to the missing Samir issue and the fine hot food purchased by the staff before leaving to start her day. Thanks. :)
A small laugh escaped Tairin's lips, however the motion sent an instant jolt through her and she stayed the giggle; opting to smile instead. "Indeed, I do," she responded thoughtfully and quietly. Sabra turned her dark head to look upon her mistress; the kitten's emerald eyes full of understanding.
Bjoern wrote:
"Please maybe help with the bargaining!"
Tairin inclined her head and replied to Bjoern, "After breakfast I will accompany you, Bear. I would see you armoured well and not swindled out of your coin." Then more quietly, she continued, "I will then proceed to the small temple to Yadar for I wish to speak with a priest named Darius Turan."
To all the party in the room, she added quietly, "I was told he may be able to help me uncover the true nature and motive of the dark creature which attacked us out of the pit in the Moon temple, and, it would be good to learn more about the Yadaran faithful in this city. I would like to secure an ally, even a tentative one, among their flock. I have asked Priestess Jelah to help us with deciphering the scrolls; yet that task may take her trusted acolytes days to translate. I will keep you apprised."
Smelling the divine odor of freshly baked bread he quickly sat down and after a shy smile to Tairin started to wolf down bread and honey and cold cuts. After the exercise and yesterdays battle he was famished and his body craved for food.
She understood well enough that Bjoern was more adept at fighting than speaking and she returned his smile yet wondered at his lack of discourse. She tilted her head as she watched him devour the repast set before him when she heard Yasala's whispered words by her ear.
Yasala wrote:
"I have heard these rumors that you speak of, but the story was slightly different. I was given to understand that the good Captain and his men were to be found slain near the bodies of Sabiha and her bodyguard. It seems that they had a falling out and came to blows with each other in some isolated ruin."
Her attention was immediate diverted by the Azimban member of their party. She is more cunning than I first believed. The passing, unvoiced thought was more a compliment than a offhand rebuke. It is good she has elected to remain among us.
In quiet voice, Tairin responded, "Well, that is a sound perspective. I do hope all the little birds, whom may have seen this altercation, will tell it as you have said. It is a shame we did not have the opportunity to learn more of Sabiha's motives regarding Osan. Perhaps, when we are in town this day, we can quietly allude to a burgeoning dispute between Sabiha and Captain Sadi to ensure the rumour begins to take deep root." She smiled at Yasala and then looked back to Bjoern, Paten and then Talar.
In a general speaking voice she asked the males around the table, "Was your evening constructive at least? Did you come across any information of import?" And after a brief pause, she asked her bodyguard, Bjoern, "Will you be purchasing new armour, soon?" in hopes the topic would excite him enough to speak.
Tairin walked down the staircase in careful, measured steps. The night had felt overly long even though she had not come home very late. There was much on her mind and she had not gotten used to her "gift". As she moved steadily into the formal dining room, her long sapphire blue skirts swished against the stone floor. Her long hair, which she wore down most of the time, was now coiffed in small braids and then bound together in one thick, single braid at the base of her spine. She was dressed in a light, sapphire blue shirt matching her skirt and silve-white veils loosely tied about her waist. Tairin's dark eyes were darker than usual.
"Greetings to all."
She placed a smile on her face when she saw the fine fare laid across the table to break their fast. She looked upon the servants and at Farrokh; her fine dark brow quirked in questioning surprise at their finery. Tairin took her place beside the lounging Sabra and reached out to tickle the kitten's ear. The gesture and general motion made her catch her breath a little, yet she covered the gesture well enough.
"It is good that we have such food to break our fast and I am well pleased. However, when were such purchases made for it is still early in the day and the food is fresh and hot. Also, where is Samir? I've noted his absence since our return yesterday. I am worried he has gotten himself into some messy situation." Her dark gaze travelled across her fellow companions now congregated around the table; taking their own seats.
She gestured for the major domo to pull out her chair and with a slow, overtly "graceful" motion, Tairin sat down and picked up a plump date from her plate and toyed with it by her lips.
With Tairin's behind the scenes rp, particular information was brought to her attention and so I am going to play it out, here.
Once answers were given to her questions regarding the food and Samir, Tairin smiled and gestured for the servants to leave them, for now.
Farrokh wrote:
”Whatever orders you have for us, noble born; speak, we are yours to command,” he says.
"Once the meal is done, we shall speak of such matters. For now the servants may return to their usual duties. Farrokh, you may join us at the table, if you have not eaten."
Taking a small bite of the honey-sweet date, Tairin, with small smile fixed, continued speaking; her voice soft and without ire, "During my own undertakings last eve, word reached my ears of the death of six people at the hands of certain members of this household. The little birds of this city do not sleep much and I am concerned at who else may have witnessed this meeting and whose ears it has reached. I hear Captain Hassan Sadi is one of the dead, along with three of his most loyal soldiers. The man was not to be taste, that is for certain, yet even I would not dare put to death the nephew of the Governor of this fine city without true, just cause. For if it is discovered, it would mean certain and immediate troubles for us and we do not desire such attention. Did you learn anything valuable from Sabiha before her death? Something that may aid us or Osan bey? And, what of the six bodies?(The bodies of Sabiha, her mysterious bodyguard, the guard captain and his three men.)I hope they were disposed of promptly. I am eager to hear of your news before I share some of mine with you all." Tairin's voice had remained steady and soft throughout her dialogue and she carefully dipped some of the hot flatbread into the dark-gold honey by her plate; waiting eagerly to hear what her companions had to say on the matter before them. Then, they would have time to discuss other matters and undertakings.
If I remember rightly, Osan and his guard stayed the night at the manse since our return from the temple? If so, I'm working on the premise they are still sleeping/resting in their allotted chambers upstairs and cannot hear our current conversation. If they have already left the manse, then Dain GM please advise. Thanks.
During downtime, Tairin will continue studying the tomes, scrolls and other articles in the manor library by day and then meeting with Jelah at the temple in the evenings as per our previous discussions. She will of course touch base with the other PCs over the course of days, weeks, month ... if she discovers any useful information in her various studies, she’ll pass it along to the other PCs.
Since it's almost Christmas Eve here in Oz and I will be heading away for a few days to spend time with family, I would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays. Enjoy this downtime and see you back on the boards soon.
”These folk are mostly silent type, yet there is a man within the city limits who is more versed in such matters, if you would speak to him, then you might learn more. His name is Darius; you may find him in a small temple to Yadar not far from here,” she adds with a wave of her hand.
Darius, she uttered his name silently in her mind, duly remembering it. Looking to the priestess, she inclined her head, "I will pay a visit to this Darius. You have given me much to think on and I thank you, Mother Jelah."I will ask Farrokh to take me to this temple in the morning.
Jelah wrote:
”If you wish to be my pupil, then you must first do what you will to convince me of how well you wish to serve me…” she added, then slides across to Tairin and moves before her, staring down at the young girl.
The lustful expression on Jelah's face was one Tairin was accustomed to; yet the beautiful older woman would be a lovely challenge to conquer. The elder woman's nearness made her pulse quicken and her skin begin to thrum.
Pressing back against the marble stair at the rim of the pool, Tairin gracefully picked up the pewter ewer filled with the warm fragrant lotus oil. With her eyes on Jelah, Tairin spoke in low husky whisper, "I would dance for your pleasure to begin, if it pleases you, Mother Jelah"
Lifting her supple body from the water, so her full, ripened breasts with their pert nipples and her narrow waist could be on brilliant display, Tairin arched her long neck back some and began to pour a little of the fragrant oil down her neck and chest/body; shivering charmingly at its silky touch. Then returning Jelah's gaze, Tairin began to slowly rotate her flared/shapely hips, pivoting them nimbly and provocatively to some wonderful melody she hummed in her mind. Tairin's dark, kohl-rimmed eyes took in the beautiful Jelah in the water before her and she began to raise herself higher on the step and turn, arms moving like twin, coiling snakes, even as one hand still held the small ewer filled with oil aloft. Tairin's burnished skin shimmered beautifully under the candlelight and the water droplets now coated with oil slid down her body to rest and dip into the juncture between her thighs/legs. Tairin was smooth as marble - Yar-Ammonite noblewoman kept their bodies hair-free and silky-soft - making them quiet desirable to their lovers.
Tairin's free hand moved down the side of her body until the fingers brushed her hip and then moved ever-slowly and deliberately toward her feminine mound as she "danced" for Jelah. Her other, free hand tilted the ewer and poured more of the oil - this time down between her breasts, stomach and mound. A purr escaped Tairin's pretty mouth and she gave the priestess a dreamy, sultry smile. Sabra sat on the side of the bathing pool; tail swishing back and forth as she watched her mistress' gambol.
Tairin rotated the hand by her thighs in a slow fashion so Jelah would look at the place which held and hid her sacred, unplundered centre.
In a silky voice, Tairin whispered; skin now teased pink with awakened desire, "I am virgin, yet I would do all that I can to convince you of my worthiness...Mother Jelah," Once again the accented voice played with the priestess' name as if stroking it.
Tairin dipped a finger into the ewer and coating the tip with oil, she placed the ewer down upon the ledge and ran the glistening tip along her lips, starting from the top and moving below. She then walked down the marble step and began to immerse herself in the warm water, until she waded before Jelah. Drawing her head/face to the priestess', Tairin paused/hovered before Jelah's mouth before gently pressing her oiled, fragrant lips to hers. The temptress bard slid her mouth against Jelah's before quietly pressing the tip of her tongue to the juncture between the other woman's lips and pushing it in; rubbing her tongue against Jelah's; coaxing it to play. Tairin gave a small; yet real moan as she deepened the kiss. Jelah's mouth was warm and wet and she enjoyed the contact very much. Breaking the contact slightly and drawing her mouth inches from Jelah's; a delicate, yearning smile crossed Tairin's lips. In breathy whisper, Tairin said, "I am certain you would be a fine teacher, if you believe I am up to the task of diligent student." Tairin's hand moved up to Jelah's face; to her mouth and lazily traced the woman's tender, sumptuous lips.

Distracting Beauty (Ex): When unarmored and unencumbered, the temptress adds her Charisma bonus (if any) to her AC and her CMD. These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the temptress is flat-footed. She loses these bonuses when she is immobilized or helpless, when she wears any armor, when she carries a shield, or when she carries a medium or heavy load. Her current AC is 16+4=20.
"Yet such creatures have powers beyond the lot of mere mortals. To slay such creatures with steel alone all tales claim to be false; for only weapons enchanted, blessed - or cursed - by great power can hope to overcome such a threat..." she added, as if unsure.
She looks hard at you.
"I fear you may not have not have slain the creature at all. For unless your weapons had the help of some benign sorcerer or some powerful god, I do not believe it was destroyed..." she adds.
She enjoyed the priestess' company; yet Tairin was tired, both from the long hours of studying and having to speak in courtly tact in this city of Zul-Bazzir. Tairin leaned back against the mosaic tile of the private bathing pool and closed her eyes for a mere moment; letting the warmth of the scented water fill her nostrils and senses.
Opening her eyes, the dark orbs settled on the mother priestess opposite her and she began speaking again in low voice, "I will profess to you that we had at our disposal such sacred weapons, granted within the temple of the Moon god. We wounded the foul creature and it retreated back into its cold, dark, endless pit. I, too, do not believe it is dead, yet I wish to know how to keep it from returning to this realm - I wish to seal this portal between worlds for good, yet such insights belongs to wiser people than I. I would not venture into said portal for I reasoned the descent was endless and I would not see myself driven to madness at the hands of the creature. I am a newcomer to this city and I wish I knew more of the pitfalls that await me, if I step unwittingly. I seek guidance from those more learned than I and that is why I have come to you. Have you heard of such a creature having been summoned to this land before now? Are the Yadaran faithful settled in this city, waiting to bring forth such a being? And for what purpose? Do they wish to destroy their adversaries and take power by force? I do not wish to be embroiled in such practices, yet at every turn it appears I find myself and my people in the middle of some great mystery - some darkness that wishes to end our lives. This is the first night I have ventured from the manse and my arduous undertakings so I may find some ease and respite. I wish for us to be trusted friends, for I have little of those in the city. I admire you - for many reasons and for the fact that you are a woman who wields both influence and knowledge with delicacy and grace. Power does not always have be to loud. I have only seen eighteen summers and wish to find a mentor or tutor to open my mind and steel my convictions. And, I have chosen you, if you would take me as friend and pupil and guide me. Is there an elder learned man or woman in Zul-Bazzir who may know of this Shoggoth and what its presence portends? I am making a home in Zul-Bazzir and I would not see it brought to rubble or held captive by the whims of others." Tairin arched her supple back; trying to flex and soothe her sore muscles at her neck and shoulders. In doing so, her rounded, pert breasts broke the surface of the soapy water; the cool air teasing their tight peaks. It was not an entirely practiced move to seduce; for such movements had now become instinctual. The woman across from her was certainly a beauty and the fact had not been lost on Tairin. yet, she needed Jelah's help and hoped the lady would provide her with some direction. A smile played across Tairin's lips as she looked upon the naked head priestess and waited to hear what Jelah had to say. "Do we have an accord, Jelah?" The accented, sultry manner in which Tairin pronounced the priestess' name lingered on the warm, moist air between them.
(I know I have made some checks in an earlier post (before I left for my trip). This is simply to gather as much information as Tairin can during her interlude with Priestess Jelah.)
Diplo to info gather:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34(add+2 if Khazistani)
Having made her way as covertly as possible to the temple - possibly at sunset/dusk when there are more shadows but less nightly threats on the streets and back alleys? (stealth and disguise checks were made in the earlier posting.) She may take one of the male estate servants with her as protection - one who can be stealthy and keep quiet, yet can handle a weapon.
In a voice unlike her own (lower and huskier), her body and head covered by the dark, common, long hooded cloak, Tairin sought a private audience with Mother Jelah once she discreetly/quietly entered the temple grounds.
If/When audience is granted...
Once she was assured they were in private chambers, Tairin pushed back her hood and shook out her long ebony hair; untying the ribbon about her neck and revealing herself. Smiling up at the head priestess, Tairin explained her artful entrance in quiet voice, "Good eve, dear Mother Jelah. I wish for the city to believe I am dead for the present time. Thus my apologies for this simple disguise. I thank you for the audience. May we sit and speak? Perhaps privately bathe, if that is your wish?" Tairin gave the religious woman a warm, cordial smile, hoping the request would be happily granted/accepted.
Once they are set up some place away from prying ears and eyes...Dain GM, I'll leave that to your discretion.
Still in lowered voice, for their ears only, "Most recently I have come across a malevolent creature possessing great power and I wish to know more. It appears to have been summoned by a dark sorcerer and his faithful and can move from its realm into our world through an opened portal in a desecrated temple. I have done what I can to remove a perverse idol head from this once sacred place, yet there is a taint which lingers and displeases the primary god. If I describe the creature to you, could you tell me if you have heard of such a creature and how I could be rid of it or close the portal between worlds? If the portal cannot be closed, I must know of a way to destroy it or imprison it for good..." Tairin's low voice faded to silence as she waited for Jelah to say something or show she would aid her.
Once Jelah has spoken...or acquiesced..
Tairin then began to carefully and quietly describe what it looked like to Jelah, "A shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over its tunnel-filling front..."
"My people and I slew its dark master and yet it remains; hidden for now within its endless, cold portal. It may rise again and we cannot permit this to happen. How can I stop it, be ride of it or imprison it for good, dear Mother Jelah? I seek your wise counsel at this juncture." Tairin dutifully and reverently bowed her head toward the elder priestess in an effort to win more favour with the beautiful woman and gain greater knowledge.
Tairin wants to know what she can about the ooze creature - the Yadaran Shoggoth they had fought and barely survived. Even though the evil dark Yadaran caster and the cultists which brought it forth are dead, it still remains as does the cold, magic sucking portal in the Moon temple.
Dain GM, I'll post on the board tomorrow what Tairin means to ask Priestess/Mother Jelah. I'll keep the postings under spoilers for they are separate to the main group and storyline. Thanks. :)
p.s. I've partially lost my voice, but perhaps I can organise a voice chat with you Dain GM to discuss some of what Tairin has been doing while the others are dealing with Sabiha. Please let me know (via message) when you may be free for this and I'll try to work around you. Thanks, again. :)
We've never done individual initiative in this game unless there have been solo missions or the GM has expressly asked for them. Instead of averaging out the modifiers as per norm, I'll average out the checks, and get your group/party initiative check. For future reference, the present group initiative modifier is +3 (this only includes the 4 pcs involved in this skirmish).
The average (per the checks here) comes to 15 for the party. The enemy got 18, so the enemy wins.
