Because after one bloody drow runs around with them every elf should aye.

How do your players let you get away with changing the game every week, it seem everytime i come to this forum someone is trying to change another rule - what do you guys wake up in the morning and just decide to change another rule because your board?!
And you ask if 'its ok', like you really care man your still gonna do it anyway.
Everytime i swear......

People...changing...rules...when...im going to stop typing now.=)

Ok ok after reading back through my own posts i to have come to realise....that even i don't know what im saying.
My first post was ment to be a reply to someone eles but it didn't work and i got sick of deleteing and re-typing so i just went press 'submit', trust me, it made a lot more sense when i was writing it in my head=)

The MDR's are just the tip of the sword of what makes dnd great.
What your thinking, MDR's suck ass thats what this thred is about right.... DnD is great because it's simple.
If you take 50 damage you make a fort save or die, if you fall 1200ft you take 20d6 damage, you come across a drow you kill it before it kills you(unless it's drizzt, then let him go)Fighters only get 2 skill points because lets face it....day not to smart...you see where im coming from here?

One poster said that if someone fall's 1200ft they just die in his game - thats not dnd mate.
This game isn't supose to be realistic, it's ment to be fun, just the other week my dwarf got cracked for something like 69 damage and when our dm said massive damage time we all stood up laughing etc and i rolled the dice in the middle - and rolled a one.
This is my bloody Half Dragon/Dwarf rogue with some crazy fort save out his ass but hay - s$#& happens.
They got me rez with in like an hour and we moved on, it's not like we get hit for 50 damage all the time.

Only if played poorly. With a high enough charisma score and enough ranks in the right skills, I can get all the brute strength I need. That's another topic, though.

[.

Yeah, sure..aham...ONLY if played poorly bards will suck....let's just say bard is the class apropriate to the 5th member of a party that, when asks the group it's composition and they say they already have a fighter, a rogue, and a healer, the DM consoles the guy to play a bard "Come one dude, hi CHA, you can at least get chicks"..sigh

I can say that in 6 years of DMing, NEVER I had a pc wanting to play a bard....

Finaly someone with some sense=)

And cheers for the 'speaking my mind' part, you may have noticed as i have that if you don't follow the "cool posters" on this site you get pushed to the back of the class with the nerds and that dude that eats glue.....

Guys just leave the rules alone, someone somewhere out there put alot of time and work in this game and for what?
So a bunch of players can get together to have a wee b!~#~ about how they want the easy way out, and there is already enough ways to avoid death in this game without making another.

Hero's die
Chick's dig scares
Gloy last forever............man that was corny=)

D&D is so black and white it's not funny:
-Halflings eat heaps
-Dwarfs drink all the time
-Drow are evil
-Bards suck
-Fighters wear full plate and smash stuff
-Rogues steal
-you get a job, go to a dungeon, kill monster, get loot.
-trust me, i could go on and on and on.......Bard's suck!

And if you fall 1200ft you just roll 20d6 because for one, thats what the rules say and 2, we play characters that are not like regular people thats why we have hit points.
There are spells that do more damage than that, so what happens then!!??
This game isn't supose to be realistic guys, it's like a video game and as soon as people come to get that the sooner we can stop wasting our time replying to stupid threds about another DM that wants to change another rule because he/she has problems with it.
STOP PLAYING D&D THEN!!
They made the rules VERY simple, eg: You take 50+ damage from one target you make a massive damage check, NOT you only make the check if it from a sword at this angle while your standing on one foot at the same time as........
If you want a realistic game try Warhammer Roleplay or maybe Star Wars because i know thats what we did when we got sick of massive AC's and hits of 100+ damage.

You should try Tui.........make 'bud' taste like a chicks drink!

My rant.....im sick of AOW!!

My group and i though in the towel the other night after another tpk against another STUPID monster(ROPE GOLEM...COME ON!)

We spent 2 weeks trying to get into this Ball so we can talk to this chick and another night roleplaying through the stupid thing and final she said....come see me in a couple of nights!!ARGGHHH.....g!% d&~ i hate this adventure, why couldn't have she just said that 3 weeks ago!??

Well thank god our DM has seen the light, so after a friggen tree killed us we said FUDGE THIS lets go and play low levels again.
And it doesn't help that i can't stand dungeon hacks which this adventure seems to put you in everytime the writers don't know what they should do next, so now we have started a low level game in the Warhammer world and im loving it!
No stupid spells, no bloody hitpoints, no friggen hits of 150 damage this is what roleplaying SHOULD be!

I feel your pain. My players and I got tired of AOW around Champion's Belt. Everything takes place in a dungeon covered in green worms. Despite this, I think there are a lot of cool features to the path, but the dungeon centered elements of it bring it down. I could list all of the awesome things about the path: The Whispering Cairn adventure was just plain excellent, the Champion's Games were really fun for the session where the PCs actually competed, the big team fight with Darl Quethos' guys on Tilagos Island is something I really wanted to do, the dinner party in Alhaster, running through a fortress of giants under siege by dragons, the list goes on. But it's stifled by too much 1E nostalgia dungeon crawling. A room with four mimics that serve no purpose other than to slow down the session bugs me to no end. I didn't enjoy DMing the encounter and my players didn't enjoy playing through it and that was the bottom line.

Yup it was the same with us, my DM was, as he put it, 'going through the motions' with this adventure.

Im sorry but i don't agree with the dinner party aye - that was crap. Maybe it was our group im not sure, there was a funny bit though when my LE Half Dragon/Dwarf Rogue pushed a halfling woman off the cliff to get her prezzy for the Prince but that was it, you just had to sit on this boring rollercoster and wait till the end....

We gave up around 10th level a while ago but came back to it because we thought it should be finshed but we got to around 15th and tpkd again and had enough.
But as a player i know what you mean with the slow down thing, it bugs the crap outta me aswell.

My DM isn't gonna be reading this so i don't need to suck up! =)

Our DM did own thing for a couple of weeks because our group was ment to be like 15th level but we were only 13th.

But.....one player died plus another got left behind and my character got taken over by this black dragon egg thing and now im a LE "King" Half Dragon/Dwarf Rogue!!!

So be careful because just trying to help the party can end up killing them=)

There are alot of people that use this website to post and start threds etc and you probley have a fav guy/girl that when you see thier name on a thred you know its gonna be somthing good to chat about.

So i want you to vote for your top 3 favorite "posters" and why=)
If you have 3 that is!

Ok ok im lost......let me get this straight....girl's fart!!??

When the HELL did that happen??!!

-15 level Dwarf Monk(large)
-15 level Dwarf Druid
-14 level Dwarf Wizard
-13 level Half Red Dragon/Dwarf Rogue

It's a very funny game!!!

And by the way, since this is a game and thus primarily intended to be fun, I am very much into 'taking the easy way out'. Gary

Yeah but theres a thin red line between having fun and just plain old cheating.

We have rules for a reason in d&d and when you have groups just go and change things because some guy wants his fighter to be able to tumble but doesn't want to lower his to hit by taking a level in rogue, it just ruins the game.

There are class skills for a reason, there are max ranks for a reason and fighters get 2 skill points a level because guess what....thats what they are, a fighter.

D&D is very black and white if people havn't noticed.
Rogues sneak and steal from you, Fighters are at the front line 'fighting', Bards are everyone's friend, Paliden's are mighty and fight good, all Drow are evil and so on and it all represents the skills they have.

This isn't ment for you though Gary, ive just used a line from your post to reply by so this isn't a personal attack on ya group or anything=)
Peace

Gary McBride wrote:

Also, eradicate class skills. They were a bad idea from the start. Why can't a fighter be diplomatic or a rogue know about history without enduring horrendous penalties?
Gary

Sorry but i say HELL no to eradicating class skills, don't get me wrong i know where your coming from but thats just asking for power gaming dude.

Fighter gets feats - Rogue gets skills.
I think the powers that be have done a very good job getting it fair and if you think 2 skill points is to low, have a higher INT or just tough it out and cross class if you really want your fighter to be diplomatic.
Increasing skill points by two will just stop players puting a higher stat into INT, god whats the point in a Rogue having anything more than 12 INT when he/she is going to get 10 skill point already and i might aswell spend more on my CON since my fighter is going to 4 skills points anyway.

This just sounds like gamers trying to take the easy way out.
Peace

Not bad, ive had a hit of 365 damage in a 15th level game when we all made these tough as characters and got to try power gaming.

I know what you mean man but what you gotta ask yourself is how many characters have they/you played this year?

Because i was like yourself into all that stuff but after many many characters it gets hard trying to make up more backgrounds etc and the other thing is you sound like your a true fan of D&D - and maybe their not.

But its threds like this that makes me realise how lucky i am with my group, we all like tog et the most outta our characters(dmg/hp/stats etc)but we always roleplay the character the best we can so maybe you need to lets them get the most outta it and they might become fond of their character's and who knows......

Last thing you really sound like my DM......Glen is that you??!!=)

Sources for story ideas: Movies, books, newspapers, computer games, TV, History books.

It is hard to advise since you provide little insight as to the type of campaign, setting, etc. :-)

Yeah sorry about that, i was in abit of a rush when i typed it=)

2nd level all Dwarf campaign, set in a old dwarfen stronghold called GRIMRILL KEEP, think Helms Deep from LOTR'S but with a massive lake called Mithral Lake the size of a city smack bang in front and the whole settlement is surrounded by huge snowy mountains which are the main income for the town because they're rich with mining.

Grimrill Keep is home to around 200 people(mostley dwarfs)and is lead by a great but old and dieing Kind called Bremmer GoldenAxe who was here the hunderds of years ago when the clan 1st settled here after a great war with the Elves.

There is only 2 ways to and from the keep, one is by ship and the other is the dangerous treck around the lake itself which is filled with abanded mines/caves etc, but there is a hand full of watch towers through out the edge of the lake and
there is a small shipping port and settlement on the far side aswell as docks at the Keep.

The grandson of the King and the only heir(sp?)to the thrown is one of the players....but he's playing a bard!
So that has started some very good roleplaying already with the council/king wanting him to step up and become a man etc because they dont think a "Bard" is fit to be king.

Winter has just ended so the town is empty at the moment with most of the dwarfs and the kings knights(The Gutbusters) travleing off to trade what has been mined etc, so with so few
left the king asked the players to travel to the far corner of Mithral Lake to check on a watch tower that hasnt checked in for the last few days.
Funny enough they found them dead and some Orcs waiting for them which they killed easy, tonight they will be following some tracks that leads to an abanded mine that the clan had shut down long ago because it opened to a long lost dungen under the lake.

There i think thats about it so any help with some side adventures/or just story ideas would be great!
Cheers guys.

Im having my 1st go at running a campaign and while ive got abit of a story worked out i would love some "mini" game ideas.
You the ones that fill in 1 or 2 gaming sessions etc.
Just if i keep doing what im doing its not gonna take very long and i would like to make this last as its also i chance for our main dm to have a bit of a break and do some roleplaying with the boys, and im sure there are other dm's out there that would like some ideas on how to spice up a campaign=)

Cheers guys,
SteveO

I cant remember the last time my mates and i didnt almost die!!
Gee every bloody "big" fight we take a hammering and normaly come away with a win but only just!!
Maybe is our characters im not sure, two of us are making a 2nd character each tonight so that might help out a bit=)

Everytime i play a new character i never pick an aligment straight away, i play for a game or two, get the fell for the character then ask my group what they think ive roleplayed and go from there....

My group tpk'ed to this basterd to!!

yup...so i think this internet thing is here to stay.....

You have some very good points there Moff and i will past them on to my DM - thanks dude.
It's funny because it was just one day at smoko during work and my boss(my DM)was reading the mag and came across it and we both thought it was a cool item and VERY well priced so he put it into our games and we have used them ever since.
Now we both agree that it needs to go but since it has been used for so long in our games he fells its to late to get ride of them.

Im having a go at running a few games that hopfully turns into somthing more and i have already said NO VESTS=)so well shall see how its goes.

Thanks man for the clear up, but you should think of it as a D/R kinda thing because thats what its turn into.
And you would think that being hit every round it would run out pretty fast but when a combat might take say 3-5 rounds if that, thats only 5 charges.
And its taken the point out of the Helm of Healing,(cant remember its real name)the one thats 4d8+7 i think once a day.
I use to take that item all the time but now!?
Ive just brought in a second character in AOW and i did'nt buy a vest so well shall see the difference(the fact that he's a knight/pally i probley should have but im gonna be stong!)

And yeah we also have if your at -10 your dead no matter what.

Do other groups use this item??
If you have no idea what im talking about the "Healing Vest" is in one of the Dragon mags i think, and it basicly heals you once per round for 1D8+1 if you have been hit.
Dont sound like much well i can tell you that it has changed games/deaths a number of times!!
Lets say you get dropped to -7 for exsample and instead of the nerve racking "crap i gotta roll and 1 or 2 to live!!" this bloody vest goes off in your turn and you get back up!!
And i cant even say how many times a character has died and then he/she says oh my vest went off the other round and i didnt add it on so im really on -3 and stable.
(and im thinking s!~*, i almost had his sword!!)

We have a house rule that if it goes off when your in negitives your stable but dont get back up untill you get a propper heal etc, and dont bother saying just dont buy one because once one person has one we all want one =)
And the fact that they're only just over a grand dont help either!
Any other partys have this problem because at higher levels 1d8 dont do much but when your 3-4 level that can make a big diff.

I didn't have the heart to tell her...

ROFL man thats classic bro!!

Oh dont get me wrong - i mean the good slutty!
The kind of slutty that if i asked nice she might put on a cute 2-piece chain mail suit and let me be the DM....i ya know what im saying!?(wink, wink)
But i know what ya mean when chicks get bored in the battles, my mates misses that plays zones out as soon as the fights go longer than 10mins but get he in the roleplaying part when she has to use her "chicky charm" to get somthing we need.......

Well all i can say is thankyou Boys and Girls for this great advise!!!
Not that im gonna be needing it on this chick anymore since i havnt heard from her in like 4 days...yeah she found the porn=(
But keep it coming because there must be another guy out there like me that needs it to!!=)

And to come home from work and find this on 70 posts rocks!

This is gold guys!!!!!
But don't worry, in the short time since i started this thred i've come to realise that,
A- im not gonna marry this girl and
B- gaming is me...and i love it!

So after another great Monday "Boys Night" of gaming(AOW)if a chick dont like it.....tough! Cos im gonna play either way.

And this is a note for any woman out there(if any)reading this thred,
Gaming chicks are sexy!!
Nothing like a nice par of D20's in a girls hand to get the night rolling!

Amen brother!!! I know what you guys mean dont get me wrong, i hear ya, but i also think there comes a time when you have to put down the dice and pick up the "tail"!

I remember when my work mate told me about d&d(roleplaying)4 years ago and i was like...."wha??huh??you do what??!!" but when i went around and had a game i was hooked and now my gaming group are my best mates and i would do anything for them!

But who i am kidding...i never gonna give this game up!!!=)

Also keep this going, people have some good idea's/advise here and hopfully one day im gonna need them for Mrs D20=)

Ok i've tryed explaining d&d to people before but it always comes out like "so you pretend to be someone your not!!?" kinda thing.
But sooner or later your girlfriend is gonna wanna know what you do on those "boy's nights" so im wondering what other guys have done when it comes to this.
And it's not like i can warm her up with some 40k wargaming stuff because she has'nt heard of any of it but i have slowly been leaving my Angel, Firefly, LOTR's, Star Wars etc dvd's out so hopfully she is starting to click on the im abit of a geek=)

I've been playing d&d for a while now(4+ years i think)and really dont wanna give it up.........
but she's really hot and kinda slutty im pretty sure i've seen all the porn there is to be seen on the net!!=)

In our AOW game at the mo we have an large dwalf monk and he is cracking out the damage now i tell you!!!
At 15 level its going to be 5D8 per hit and if we didnt have him around the game would have been over a long time ago.

Just been reading some of the post around an it seems the everyone(players and dm's)seems to always have problems with high levels games.

So whats the best level/s and why??

Im a low level type of guy, all my fav games have come from starting out at low levels and working our way up.
Between 5-7 is what i like.

Bar meet up never fails aye bro!!=)
