"We did good," Skyxa remarks later, at the party. "Completed mission, didn't have to kill..." she pauses for a moment, silently recalling their adventures around the countryside, "...any people. Just possessed bears and flame creatures. Always a good thing."

When Demm heads over to the table, ready to accept the All-You-Can-Eat Challenge, Skyxa coughs and excuses herself from whatever conversation she might be involved in.

Though she knows it's not particularly practical, Skyxa can't help but feel obligated to drop her bow and draw out her mace. She then takes a step forward and attempts to crack Jiang Fei across the knees...but she too pulls her punch with the attack.

Attack vs. Jiang Fei (Light Mace; Bless, IC, NL): 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 15

Blunt arrows. Buy blunt arrows if you make it back alive.

"Oof...pulling your punches...appreciate it..." Skyxa huffs, still hurting from the punch but more so from simply having the breath knocked out of her than from any true injury.

Fort (DC 15): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

"Oof!"

Skyxa takes a nasty punch from Jiang Fei, enough to actually push her backward a bit.

With having Jiang Fei practically up in her face Skyxa takes a step back before readying another arrow and firing practically point-blank!

Once she's in position Skyxa takes aim at Yue Xin with her bow...

Skyxa sighs and draws out her longbow.

"So be it. We warned you!"

She squints in the bright light and moves forward onto a nearby ridge, clearly intending to take the high ground against the group of humans.

Skyxa sighs and slowly shakes her head.

"We made a promise to bring this to Mai Chun. Promises aren't supposed to be broken. It would dishonor us all. You all understand about honor, right?"

She looks most pointedly at Jiang Fei and then at Jianghong and Zheng. Yue Xin she's much more uncertain about; the man is an enigma if ever there was one.

"You should keep your treasures and find other ways to work for the glory and honor of your homes."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

"Magic. Makes sense," Skyxa finally speaks up. "The Palace is empty but with things set out for meals and other living activities. It's like everyone vanished without a trace. Very strange. But magic makes sense."

She pauses and then considers very carefully how to proceed.

"We came here to find a scroll case. Jade. Very pretty. Do you remember where it might be, please?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

"Vanished like smoke on the wind?" Skyxa remarks, also puzzled by the state of the ballroom. "Nothing disturbed here. If they left fast, things would be knocked over or spilled."

She's also puzzled by the freshly lit candle at the shrine and her hand more than once strays towards her bow as the group slowly noses about. "Krall is right. Someone or something has been here. Might still be here. We should be careful."

Huzzah! It's definitely been fun :)

I think I'll have to pass on doing another scenario right now though as I need to let my dance card empty out a bit.

"Find the lost palace and the jade scroll case inside," Skyxa repeats aloud, as though committing this instruction to memory. "Simpler than borrowing from schools or fighting in public."

She smiles toothily.

"Looking forward to it."

"Left yourself open," Skyxa scoffs as Green pummels Kaidynn, leaving both themself and her fellow kobold woozy on their feet. Deciding to get straight to the point she aims a straight-line punch directly at the back of Green's knee.

"Ogre Smashes Rock! The rock is you!"

Growing tired of the shenanigans Skyxa circles around the table and around to the side of Green, trying to get into flanking position with Kaidynn. Once again, she tries to aim for the lower body with a bony, scaley knee.

"Told you to stand down! Ogre Scares the Foe!"

This is my weekend off (yay!) but otherwise no special plans on my end except maybe trying to enjoy the sunshine a little bit when it's not too terribly hot :)

Whoops, just leave Skyxa in her current square then (which seems to only contain her) and ignore the part about forming a wall.

Having had enough of Scorpion shenanigans, Skyxa steps next to Kaidynn, adding to the wall of kobolds standing shoulder-to-shoulder. She then attempts a rapid-fire kick aimed at Green's knees...

Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

...that might actually connect, maybe.

"Ogre Stomps Around! 'Around' means 'all over your knees'!"

"Hmm. Yes, well."

Skyxa calmly rises to her feet and circles around the table, heading towards Red with deliberate, purposeful steps.

One. Two. Three. Four.

In one fluid motion, as she puts her lead foot down on the fourth step, she brings her other knee up!

"Go home and come back when you are stronger!"

Well, that was an attempted 'Ogre Scares the Foe' but alas :)

As the group settles in at their table and Jiang Fei puts in an order for some tea, Skyxa takes the opportunity to quietly observe their would-be foes.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Might not have to pick a fight since we stick out like a sore dewclaw no matter where we go.

"Hah! Hard work but...fun, in a way," Skyxa puffs as they proceed through all the various stances and moves. Though not particularly strong - the case for most kobolds - she's at least quick and already in decent shape from her initial Pathfinder training.

"Kobolds are like birds. We need to eat lots to keep our energy," Skyxa explains. "But we get the job done, no matter what. So thank you for humoring us."

Then she tucks into the dumplings as well, trying to strike a balance between not lingering over her meal but also not eating so quickly as to choke or seem rude.

"What's a dumpling?" Skyxa asks, genuinely curious. "Smells good, whatever it is. Meat inside? Then yes - more than one."

The kobold then thinks it over, trying to judge how many she can reasonably eat.

"But not as many as ten. Maybe five? Yes. Five for me, please. Can always buy more if I want. Or save them if five is too many."

She then offers a bow to Jiang Fei. "And hello. We're here to learn. I think. What is the Jade Ogre Style?"

Though pleased to have ultimately succeeded at another part of their mission, Skyxa can't help but feel a little subdued in spirit after the whole affair.

"Thought being a Pathfinder would be better than home. All they do there is mine or do piracy," she admits. "Now I see that being a Pathfinder will not always be an easy path to walk, either."

But it's better I learned this now and not later on.

Skyxa heaves another long-suffering sigh; she might've reconsidered the mission, or at least this particular aspect, if she'd had any idea that stealing and dishonesty would be necessary to acquire the map.

But.

She'd given her word to Mai Chun that she'd see the mission a success. And though it also rankled her to let Jianghong more or less get away free, it did at least seem that Zheng was *trying* to look out for him and steer him on the right path.

"Mercy is offered, but only once. Should I be betrayed in my moment of kindness, I will not stop until I have put my enemy down," Skyxa recites. "This wasn't a battle, but...the student is young. Young make mistakes and sometimes learn the hard way. But not always."

She gives Zheng a very hard stare. "Keep him out of trouble or his luck will run out, one day."

Skyxa still isn't thrilled *but* hopefully the above works as something of an IC reason she'd go along with things. But as a player, I'm fine with this outcome :)

Skyxa sighs as consensus turns to simply letting the young man go, albeit without his stolen goods.

"Maybe he take our advice anyway," she remarks to Gynnezz. "Would keep him out of trouble maybe if he did..."

"Gynnezz speaks wise," Skyxa replies, crossing her arms over her chest. "You should find better way down the path than breaking rules and stealing. Take punishment like adult. Then go to Goka; talk to Pathfinders there and ask for work. Pathfinders always need more people to work. There'll be some school but also claws-on training with weapons and things. Plenty to do."

She glances over at the armored figure making his way towards them. "Take your Zheng, too. You're adult, yes? If parents banish him then YOU hire him. Or become equal partners."

Hoping that maybe the thief will see reason now that they're pretty much caught and surrounded, Skyxa clears her throat and tries using her words again.

"We won't hurt you if you come quietly and return what you took. I swear it in the name of Apsu!"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Seeing that her calls to halt aren't doing anything, Skyxa joins the chase against the figure as well. Under the assumption that they'll likely head for the front gate she circles around in that direction, attempting to leap over the various hedges and low walls in her way...

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

When Krall raises the alarm Skyxa immediately leaps to her feet and takes off out the door after him. Though she's not entirely sure of what might be happening she still barks out a command of, "STOP, whoever you are! You can't hide from kobold eyes!"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 ._.

"You know, we're supposed to give a class tomorrow. Maybe we can compare notes and see what sorts of things we can teach the noscales?"

Midnight stays with Skyxa. She has confidence that the team is doing the right thing, and so speaks reassuringly if Skyxa seems nervous.

"Oh...right, we did say we would teach them something," Skyxa blinks, having very nearly forgotten that part of the deal. "Yes, we should make notes and things - I think noscales usually do when they teach things."

She thinks about what things might be useful to noscales, especially ones that live so far away from Avistan and the Inner Sea.

"Maybe...teach basic story of homelands? Or is that too much? Maybe just teach them about kobold story? Hmm...could always teach about Pathfinder Society. There's a lodge in Goka, yes?"

And she continues on in much the same way, happy for the company and also happy to have something else to focus on for a bit.

For her part, Skyxa shifts uncomfortably as talk turns to skulking and skulduggery. "The school was nice and let us stay the night. Repaying that with sneaking...doesn't seem right."

She thinks hard; they do still have a mission to complete and it sure didn't seem like they'd be allowed regular access to the original map.

"Maybe...make our own copy? Yes, we need practice if we want to be good students so we need to make our own copy. I will ask about it tomorrow. Tonight I will keep very busy taking care of my gear and sleeping. Sleeping soundly. Sleeping very soundly."

The kobold glances at her fellows and coughs.

Yeah, I uh...forgot about the optics of bringing a paladin along >.>

"Schools of learning...are open to all, yes?" Skyxa asks, clasping her clawed digits together. "Kobolds have no schools. We traveled far to see your school and its maps and classrooms and to see how a student in a school lives. Staying here would be part of the learning, yes? Even just one night."

"Map looks like a map. How can you tell it's a copy?" Skyxa whispers to some of the others, looking a bit flummoxed. "And maybe we can buy a dog if map lead doesn't work out."

Putting on what she hopes is her best smile, Skyxa then addresses Jianghong and Zheng at her normal volume. "Yes, map is very pretty. Are visitors allowed to see the originals?"

Skyxa is content to go along with the rest of the tour, smiling and nodding and making small talk with the various faculty and staff that they're introduced to along the way. When it seems that the tour might be approaching some sort of conclusion, the kobold coughs.

"They teach many things here. That's good. But do they teach about the lay of the land? Mountains and rivers and plains?"

She thinks for a moment.

"Humans call it...geography, I think. And make maps of the land. Do you have maps here at your school?"

"Nice school," Skyxa remarks as the group is shown around. "You don't seem to like it much though. Why?"

Skyxa smiles at Jianghong; his statement might be the biggest understatement she'd heard yet.

"Yes, visitors. If you were getting kobold students..." she looks around, noticing that everyone else is largely going about their business, "...there would be more people with you to say hello."

And to stare.

Except she keeps that last part to herself.

"We'd like a tour, please. Kobold-learning is a lot less...formal. Structured?"

Skyxa considers what Kaidynn is able to share about the green writing, nodding in agreement with his explanation to Yue Xin. "Yes. Kobolds speak history out loud and pass it down. We write too but not as much."

"Maybe Mai Chun will know more about what the writing means."

"So...we wrote down words but anyone know what they mean?" Skyxa hisses quietly to the others. "He's gonna make fun of us again if we don't..."

"Yes, keep it busy! We support from the high ground!" Skyxa calls out to Krall and Kaidynn. She readies another arrow and fires upon the remaining green-fire-minion thing!

"Fire isn't supposed to fight like this," Skyxa remarks as she quickly readies her bow and takes a shot at one of the strange green-fire monsters.

Attack vs. Green Fire Dark (Longbow; IC): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"What are they???"

"Write? With *what?*"

Skyxa quickly looks around and grabs a small, pointy-ended rock and works to gouge the symbols into the flagstones at her feet.

Skyxa, who had been momentarily lost in thought, suddenly blinks and looks at the group.

"That human said something about words in green fire. If the fireworks make green writing, make sure someone can read them," she points out, gesturing to Demm, who should still have the wand they'd been given earlier.

Still a little unsure of what to expect, but hoping it'll just a really cool light display, the kobold hustles forward and up the steps a bit in order to get a better vantage point.

Int (DC 12): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

The rather serious-minded kobold actually looks surprisingly excited at the thought of fireworks; her eyes grow wide and glitter in the starlight, all thought of ghosts forgotten - at least temporarily.

"Ohhh. I think you're right!"

She peers around.

"I don't see any fireworks, though. And we don't have any, either."

Then her eyes fall on the out-of-place flagstone.

"Hmm...that's been moved before. Wonder what's under it?"

Skyxa ambles over and attempts to lift said flagstone...

Str: 1d20 ⇒ 10

...putting in a decidedly average amount of effort.

"We have time and this place is only a half-day walk? We should get lodgings and...talk. Talk with the locals," Skyxa suggests. "Then we get started when the sun hangs low."

Assuming that there's no immediate objections to her suggestion, Skyxa heads into the city's markets to try and learn a little more about the lay of the land, so to speak.

Diplomacy (Gather Information; Tien Penalty): 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 5 = 16

And despite some difficulties in getting her questions across - and interpreting the resulting answers - she manages to learn something useful!

"Going at night *is* best. Soldiers guard the ruins in this land fiercely by day...but not so fiercely at night," Skyxa smiles.

Later on, when the group finally reaches the ruins, Skyxa looks around uneasily. The lack of human soldiers wasn't surprising at all but the absolute silence that hangs over the place unnerves even her. She draws her bow as she looks around, her gaze settling on the central structure.

"This place feels haunted. Yue Xin didn't say anything about ghosts..."

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

"Information we can work with," Skyxa remarks, happy to have finally gotten to the point. "And no need for reward, but...do like rice, if Yue Xin is offering."

Eager to see what awaits them next on their journey, Skyxa hustles to follow the others.

Skyxa sighs. "Not our fault. Pathfinders sent us but didn't say anything about Tien."

She eyes the wand with interest as Demm accepts it and tucks it into his belt, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Need to get one of those.

"What green fire words? Where do we find them?" Skyxa asks, turning her attention back to Yue Xin.

Skyxa quizzically cocks her head to one side as she comes sauntering up to join the rest of the group gathered around the well. When the strange man speaks, she shakes her head.

"We're not from around here," the kobold remarks in what is probably the most blatant example of stating the obvious that there ever was. "Sorry. Speak Common, maybe, please?"

Skyxa considers all that Mai Chun has told them - and her proposition. Then she offers a toothy grin.

"Finding - and making - history is what Pathfinders do. Where do we start?"
