Order #36291241 was unnecessarily split into 2 packages and I was charged to ship each one separately, resulting in double the normal S&H. Per this post from Joan H. on 2 Sep 2020, you guys are aware this has been happening to me for several months and are supposed to be mitigating it. Please refund the shipping charges on the second package of this order. In lieu of a refund, I'll accept a credit to my next order for the 2nd S&H charge. Thanks.

Again this month my PF and SF APs have shipped in separate packages for no apparent reason. This doubles my S&H costs with no benefit to me. This has happened 4 of the last 6 months. I caught it last month, complained in the shipping thread, and it was stealth fixed with no explanation. I appreciate that it was fixed, but I'd like to get this addressed such that I don't have to check every month. Paizo's shipping has been reliable for me for the past 13 years and I'd like to see that reliability return. -Skeld

I think I've arrived at my last (hopefully) subs to cancel. Please cancel the following:
To be sure, I'd like to keep my current pending order as-is because i want the Druma book, but Id like that to be my last from that line. Also, please leave my AP subs alone. ;) Thanks,

My Curse of the crimson Throne campaign begins tonight! I had settled on CotCT prior to wrapping up my RotRL campaign. This was before the CotCT hardcover was announced and I'm glad that things aligned such that I have a compiled hardcover to run from. Tonight, we're doing a combined Session 0 and 1st session. We'll finish character generation by picking traits using the character background method from Harrow Handbook. Then we'll jump right into the campaign. I'm going to have 5 players, of which only 3 are able to attend tonight. Due to scheduling conflicts, we either start tonight or wait another 3 weeks. It's been a few weeks since justaworm finished his Thornkeep campaign, so everyone is ready to start something new. The party currently consists of:
In addition to the normal stuff done as part of the Harrowing, I've assigned each character a Harrow card that corresponds their alignment and primary ability score. This is the card with a personalized note from Zelara written on it (based on the Campaign Trait they've chosen). They'll get an additional Harrow Point if this card shows up during the Harrowing. We're using some optional rules, including Corruptions, expanded fear, Hero points, Stamina and Combat Tricks, retraining, Sanity/Madness (with modifications), VMC, and Wound Thresholds. Some of these we're trying for the fist time and if they don't work the way we like, we'll toss them aside. This thread is an attempt at documenting my campaign modifications, spitballing ideas, and reporting out to the community. -Skeld

In the same vein as the Obituaries threads, here's place to talk about your character's greatest moments. I'll begin... Edition: D&D BECMI Red Box
Thus began the long, successful adventuring career of Beowulf. -Skeld

The Harrow deck used at the beginning of each chapter of CotCT could easily be stacked by the GM with predetermined cards in order to craft the story (ensuring that the Harrowing would fit the chapter's theme and foreshadow events). For those that have ran CotCT, I'm interested in hearing about you Harrow experiences, specifically any experiences with using stacked decks. If you didn't stack the deck, how did you Harrowings go? Did they fit well with the chapter at hand? I'm trying to decide what would be best for my group. -Skeld

Because there have been a lot of threads lately where I ask myself if I'm playing the same game* as the OP or others who might been heavily involved in the discussion. Sometimes, it's like watching a far-off, slow-moving trainwreck where you're helpless to do anything about it and you'll just be in the way if you go over there. When its over and the mess is cleaned up, you're left thinking to yourself, "I'm glad that wasn't me!" -Skeld * PFS doesn't count because that is a different game.

This is an eight episode Netflix original series set in 1980's small town Indiana. It's pretty cool and creepy so far. It centers around the disappearance of a young kid after he and his friends are playing their D&D campaign featuring "the demogorgon." It's looking pretty good so far. Anyone else watching this?

Ok, the title is slightly misleading. Allow me to explain. My group, in its current incarnation, has been together for over 15 years. I typically GM. From 3e, to 3.5e, to Star Wars SE, to Pathfinder. I just recently finished a long stretch of GMing. It started with the Savage Tide AP in 2006, then A Star Wars campaign, then a "monster PCs" game, then RotRL with Dragon's Demand as a mid-game diversion. We transitioned to PF for the "monster" campaign. Since finishing RotRL, another of my group has taken up the GM reins to run Thornkeep and our first session was Friday night. Since I've been strictly GMing for my group for nearly 10 years, Friday actually marked the first time I've played Pathfinder as a player. It was glorious. When I showed up, I told my group that I felt so unburdened because all I was carrying was a backpack with a single book, a binder, and my iPad (well, dice and stuff too, because duh). No tote full o' miniatures, or rolled up maps, or 20 pounds of books, and so forth. My first character in forever is a Cleric of Cayden Cailean named Cass. After mulling over the options, I went Cleric because my fellow players needed one and I didn't want us to NPC a hirling or anything. Long term GMing can be tiring and I'm going to sit back and enjoy being on the other side of the screen for a little while until I slip back into the Big Chair. -Skeld

Tonight, in epic fashion, my players defeated Karzoug the Claimer. It was a battle worthy of song. They fought bravely and three of the died before Karzoug was finally defeated. It's late (it was a 9 hour gaming session), so I'll have to write more later, but here are some of the interesting tidbits from my RotRL campaign:
I'll try to come back later with more details. Feel free to ask questions about our campaign. -Skeld

I think it would be helpful to add "Was this review helpful?"-type functionality to product reviews. This could be as simple as adding the current "like" functionality to reviews, or something more complex where reviews could be sorted according to how many customers found the reviews helpful. This type of functionality would help weed out bad reviews while promoting ones that are actually helpful. -Skeld

I received my November subs today. As usual, it came in a box containing one cardboard envelope. My AP, Companion, and Module were all packed very snug in the envelope, which was loose in the box. The corners of the two books (on the outsides of the book sandwich) were pretty beat up from rattling around in that box. I'm split on whether I think it would've been better to pack them in two envelopes, or make sure there was less room in the box. I'm not looking for replacements (what I have is fine), I just wanted to provide some (hopefully) usefull feedback. -Skeld

Perhaps I'm misremembering, but I thought there was a book where each of the Runelords had a descriptive paragraph and a piece of "head and shoulders" art. It seems like these were placed at the bottom of subsequent pages (or maybe every-other page). I'm trying to locate this information for my RotRL game on Friday night. Any help pointing to useful information is appreciated. -Skeld

My sub copy of Inner Sea Gods from last month was damaged by Rovagug and Erik said he put a replacement copy in my sidecart, however my Order makes no mention of it. Can you please check and make sure that replacement comes with my May sub order? Thanks in advance! -Skeld

I think it would be beneficial for any GMs that run the Iomedae encounter from Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth to post their groups' play experiences here for other GMs to review. Most beneficial would be stories from GMs that ran the encounter more-or-less as presented in the book (minor modifications would be fine, but complete re-writes make the data less useful). This thread isn't for theorycrafting the encounter (there's an entire thread already devoted to that), but is for real "rubber-meets-the-road" play experiences. I plan to run this campaign eventually and, in my think-ahead planning, I'm trying to separate the discussion over the encounter from what actually takes place in gameplay and what I can forsee happening with my own group. My theory is that players (who shouldn't have read the encounter or know anything about it beforehand) won't be nearly as bothered by the specifics of the encounter as presented because they will lack insight into the text of the encounter (for instance, they never know about the potential for sonic damage if they don't trigger it). There are a number of questions that might be helpful for each GM to answer about their individual group's experiences:
I know there's been a great deal of negative discussion about this encounter and that James has expressed his surprise that people have reacted as negatively as they have. This thread is an attempt to separate the theory of the encounter from the reality of the encounter. From there, I think we (as a collective group) can gain some insight into how this encounter fleshes out in game and maybe extract some pearls of wisdom for future GMs to use. -Skeld

The player-friendly map of Varisia from Shattered Star and the player-friendly map of Irrisen are awesome maps. We need more maps like this (player-friendly, old world style) in future map folios. The folios have always been a lackluster product (in my humble opnion) and these types of maps go a long way toward finally making them really useful as a game aid. I love the way my players gather around and study these maps when I plunk one down on the table. -Skeld

Does anyone know if the templates from the Advanced Bestiary are anywhere online? I'd like to tinker with some of the NPCs that use them, but I don't know what these various templates look like. I could reverse-engineer the statblocks and derive what each template does, but honestly, my limited prep time is probably better spent doing other things. -Skeld

Paizo-related Nominations:
Not bad, all in all. I tried to find the list of everything Paizo submitted this year, but no luck finding it yet (the full list of submissions was on their website last week). Voting runs from July 22-31 this year. -Skeld

We have companions for nations/region, races, lots on religion, equipment, animals, and the Pathfinders. Can we get something with a focus that would be useful to the Bards and Rogues of Golarion? It doesn't have to be about Bards/Rogues, just a subject that favors those classes so we can get some goodies in there that aren't sprinkled across so may product lines. Thanks for the consideration! -Skeld

I love rumors in an adventure. They mess with the players, muddy the water, and let them draw erroneous conclusions. Various AP volumes have used rumors, but they could be beefed up. In a homebrew campaign I ran years ago (started under 3e and transitioned to 3.5), I used rumors extensively at a couple points in the campaign, notably when the players were trying to figure out their next move or about to make a move (such as equipping and heading out of town to explore the old castle or whatever). I would have a list of one-line rumors, from strange or absurd (DC10) all the way to highly insightful (DC30 or so). Each character would get to learn 1d4+ChaMod (min 1) rumors. Each rumor was a Gather Info check (which would be Diplomacy now) rolled in secret by the GM (so the player doesn't know how good the info is on a 1-20 scale). Results of less than 10 resulted in the player learning nothing. Rumors on the low end tended to be false or, at best, misleading. Rumors on the high end tended to be true, but might have an important detail missing. Combining these various rumors could give players insight into something they otherwise might not piece together on their own, or send them chasing a red herring. This gave socially-oriented characters a moment to shine out of combat and this worked exceptionally well in a murder mystery adventure that was part of the campaign. I'd like to see more of this kind of thing included in APs. I'm not hung up on the mechanics, I'm more interested in seeing the authors/devs include more rumor material into individual adventures (especially urban adventures). -Skeld EDIT: "Results of 10 or lower" to "Results of less than 10" |
