I tend to get lost and confused quickly when trying to run a published adventure. I've tried index cards, Roll20 (bought RoTRL on Roll 20), and several methods. The game play slows down as I try to look up various facts and info during gameplay.

What tips does everyone have to help organize running a published adventure? When I make my own, it's mostly sandbox with a few key events and locations prepped ahead of time.

Biggest challenges I have are:

1. NPC Info - Keeping it straight
2. Pre-Planned Events - Finding info when needed.
3. Large Locations - Keeping track of what's relevant and what's available.

The only thing I haven't done is create my own wiki for my game, which would be a pain to do and I'd like to avoid.

Ok, I'm playing in a silly-themed campaign. ALl of us have agreed to die for a TPK in our last session, but we get to come up with the method. I chose to model my character after El Macho from Despicable Me 2. Short of using the shark and explosives as depicted in the movie, what would everyone say is the most macho way to die in a vanilla, silly-themed, game? I'm not coming up with anything I feel is worth mentioning. He's a level 6 Fighter.

Bonus points for making it cliche!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts on these forums. I have learned a lot by reading them the past few months and have become a better GM because of it. Last night during my bi-weekly game with my daughter and son, I used several suggestions I got from the forums to build suspense (like rolling a d20 and saying, "really? Wow, ok" and such). The kids loved it and it was one of the best sessions ever. So thank you to everyone.


Ok, so my son decided to try a MLP FIM (pony) race he found on the internet. We came up with a situation where my character is riding his character. We agreed that the rules for mounted combat would apply for me, but would he still get his turn in the initiative order? Or would it be used doing whatever I did as his rider? Looking for ideas on how to handle this.

Why don't we make a list of how things would work out if we did things our characters do in real life? For example:

A group of heavily-armed people walk into a bank...


So I have a local hobby store that hosts PFS events. I've come up with a lv 1 shield fighter that I want to play with an interesting rp twist (dwarf you can't grow a beard and doesn't drink alcohol). However, I'm not real familiar with the rules yet. I've relied on Hero Lab in making my characters up till now. My home games are a mishmash of rules I remember to keep the story going. My home players are fine with that.

Now, I've been told that PFS by necessity sticks to the rules (that makes sense). However I'm nervous because of my lack of understanding. I'm also nervous that I'll be the only level 1 PC at the event. Can I get a pep talk from anyone who's been to these events? I just don't want to feel like I have no idea how things go at these events.


So I'm thinking about writing a multi-level campaign for the BB ruleset. Taking the PC's from lv 1-6. At first it was just for my own use, but I'm wondering about the community:

There used to be a vibrant set of discussions on the BB forum, now not so much. Would there be any interest in me putting these on the internet as I write them? I remember when I first got my BB I struggled to find good material designed for it.


Any ETA on shipment? I'm assuming a backlog due to the sale, but I'd like some idea on timeframe if possible. It was ordered 10/31. Thank you.


So, I'm confused by something. I know that PF is supposed to be 3.5 compatible, but I've also heard of people "converting" 3.5 products to work with PF rules. Whenever I've used 3.5 material, the only converting I've had to do is translate names (like feats to their pf equivalent). Is that all there is to it or am I missing something? I was expecting balance issues and such.


I've been waiting for this since July. I'm assuming the vendor isn't going to ship it. Can we cancel this order and credit my card (or if the card was never billed just cancel the order)?

A hideous storm is raging. Torrents of rain streak from the sky. Thunder pounds the air. Lightning is the only illumination on this god-forsaken afternoon. Each of you has made your way to the Rusty Nail Inn to take shelter. The fire dances in the fireplace, hissing as some of the rain makes its way down the chimney. The patrons are quiet and mutter to themselves.

An old man sits near the fireplace, staring into an unknown distance. He wears a grey hat and has a long, grey beard. A minstrel strums an old lute, but no merry tune comes forth. Instead, various chords float on the air, unanswered by any song. The innkeep stares at each of you slowly while wiping the bar. After meeting his gaze, you notice that everyone in the inn is staring....right at you.

I'm looking for 4-5 players for a modified Beginner Box campaign that I wrote (adjusted for Core Rules) to take players from level 1 to level 5. At the end, your character should be ready to go to 6 (or will be soon) and if things are going well, we'll discuss adding more to the campaign.

Core Rulebook only. I don't want to spend a lot of my time looking stuff up on PRD because I'm not familiar with it. I just recently moved from BB to Core rules so that's important to me. Backstory is also important to me. I try to place events of the Pc's backstory into the plot without making it feel like the pc is being screwed by it.

I'm not going to use a battle-grid during combats, but just descriptive text. So be aware of this when picking feats/spells.

Work is slow right now so I can check the posts multiple times per day, but during mid-august to October, it will pick up so I'll be checking towards the evening PST.

Intro:

The town of Riddle Creek has not had any children born to it for years. The youngest resident is approaching adulthood and nearby villages are starting to avoid traveling to town to trade their goods; hoping to avoid the plague. The local priest has declared that a group of travelers will arrive during the next summer storms, and that they are the hope of the community. Can you find the cause of this plague and restore fertility to the residents or will the town die off?


I live in the Goodyear area, but am willing to play anywhere west of I-17. I'm looking to find a group of players to play bi-weekly on Saturdays. I prefer to run generic fantasy type settings and often create my own adventures/campaigns vs playing pre-published. I'd like to get a group of 3-5 players. I want to play an initial one-off game with the group to make sure we mesh and go from there.

I'm laid back and view the rules as guidelines. If a player comes up with something that's questionable rules-wise, I make my judgment based on what's good for the story and whether or not it makes sense to me.


I asked my son the other day what he liked about Pathfinder the most. He's 10 so I figured the combat or dungeon exploring or something like that. He told me he likes it all. The role-playing, exploring places, meeting npc's, creating new characters, exploring character concepts (I'm paraphrasing). I really didn't expect that much of a response from him. It made me happy that I can share something with him that we can enjoy for years, even as my health fails overall.

What stories does everyone have when playing with kids (any age)? What makes introducing the hobby to younger ones fun and rewarding?


So in a couple of weeks (after I move into my new house) I'm playing with a group of friends from work who are experienced DND players. I'm a little intimidated. They've agreed to play BB since I'm most familiar with the BB ruleset, but I'm worried about what they'll throw at me. Not sure why, but I am. Really all we're focusing on is going through the story and the first session is going to be a one-shot dungeon bash. I'm most comfortable with writing my own adventures so that's the plan.

Any advice or reassurances? I'm sure we'll have fun but....I don't know...I feel like I'm missing something...


So I'm writing a campaign for BB rules for my son and his friends. Part of the first adventure takes place in the wilderness en route to the "forgotten temple." I have some encounters in mind. However, I'm uncertain as to how to add "flavor" to the journey. What can I have happen as "encounters" that don't really do anything but provide atmosphere? Any ideas? It's a campaign set in a pretty vanilla mideival setting. Village needs help removing a curse, pc's go on a series of quests to remove the curse. BB monsters and such.

An example of what I'm looking for: You come across an old statue of a man wearing flowing robes and holding a book. His right palm is outstretched in a "halt" gesture.

I'm thinking PG but I'm not coming up with a lot of ideas....


So I'm writing a multi-level campaign for my group of players. I've noticed that some published modules will cover a full level for a party of 4 and some won't. So I'm wondering: do players usually find it more satisfying to level up once per adventure or should I spread it out?


I'm thinking about designing campaigns, modules, and supplements specifically for the PF Beginner Box ruleset. I think there's a real need for this niche. Would anyone be interested in this endeavor? If I went forward, how would I reliably find playtesters? Should I start small with small adventures that aren't related? Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome, especially from 3PP's out there who know about this sort of thing.

So I play the BB ruleset with my 10-year-old son. This last weekend, he gave the best compliment ever on a story-line twist ("Wow! I didn't see THAT coming!). The problem was that he missed a major clue that I left in the tomb he was exploring. That got me to thinking: Is there a process for coming up with puzzles to solve? It seems that everything I find is too hard for kids but the stuff with kids in mind is too easy for him. Or at least a good link to a list of puzzles I can use for inspiration?

The day is bright and sunny. Standing in the marketplace, you notice people milling about at various booths and stands. The people are wearing tunics and trousers, carrying various goods and supplies on their way. Two human men stand watching the goings on around them. Their swords shining brightly from their scabbards. Beards dark and scruffy cover their faces. The eyes of the taller of the two meet yours, piercing you. You get the distinctive feeling that you're being sized up.

That's when you notice that weapons are conspicuously absent from everyone milling about (including those who appear like mercenaries). While watching, you notice two elvish men standing near the entrance to the Barley Inn and Tavern; wearing green silk cloaks with golden clasps. Their waists have long rapiers attached to them, with golden handles and jeweled hilts. Their boots appear clean, with an almost unworn quality. They seem in a heated conversation.

A stocky dwarf walks across the center of the marketplace, carrying no axe. His clothes dirty and dark, with tattered sleeves. His beard is grey and unkept. He seems focused on the elves, and stops by a booth that is about ten feet away, watching them intently.

I'm looking to GM a Pathfinder short campaign via thread. I've never played this way before, but I think it will be fun. I'm looking for 4 players at Level 1 (or new characters) to embark on a series of homebrew adventures to help resolve the Troubles in Tallenfur.

If this doesn't post correctly and I can't get the other tabs (like gameplay) I'll work to figure it out and post a message redirecting any interested ones accordingly.
