I flagged this post but I'm not entirely sure that I was correct to do so. Er. It's my own post and I wanted to delete it, so I clicked on the flagging system to see if there was an option there.

The GM of the game asked us not to share story information prior to the game itself and one of my posts had such info, so I was looking to, you know... remove the information. @_@

Having said that, I didn't wasn't ready yet, but I clicked on something akin to "Breaking other guidelines" which isn't wrong, but, uh...

What did I do? Also, is there anything I should do?

Thanks so much for your advice. @_@

Hello and welcome! I know we've a long while yet - a whole month! - but everyone's all signed up and since there are two players that aren't entirely sure what they're intending to play, I thought it might be best to give you all the opportunity to discuss party composition, marching order, and possibly botting partnerships.

That said, I'm basically a baby when it comes to pbp! I'm currently in the last few stages of running this same module for a non-PFS group. (It was my first toe-dip into GMing pbp since I wasn't sure what I'd be getting myself into!) This means that I've got most of the materials ready and I've got a pretty good idea how I'd like this to go. Given that this is the real world, however, and all sorts of odds and ends come up, I can't promise that I'll be the best GM ever, but I'll certainly give it my all.

As I mentioned in my sign-up sheet's instructions, I'd like to stick to a decently rapid pace. Since this is a module I'll have hopefully completed by the time we actually begin, that means I'm hoping to move along at a rate of two or three posts a day. I'm also hoping for high quality posts with interior monologue and meaningful team interactions.

I know, I know, I'm pretty demanding, right? Still, I'm also very much aware that everyone's got different lifestyles and some people might not be able to check everyday. What I've described is my hoped for scenario. I'm aware (painfully aware, even) that most PFS pbp games run at a rate of a post of day - if you're lucky.

So! In addition to discussion party composition, expectations, and other maintenance before PbP Gameday VI actually begins, I'd like to get an understanding of what you as players would like to see from me. One of my hopes is that I'll be able to keep an open line of communication with everyone, so if I'm being too demanding or outrageous, please don't ever be worried about telling me!

I'm at least 2/3rds compelled to do strange things in strange ways, so if you're even the slightest bit concerned, I'm probably doing something sideways so I'll definitely embrace your suggestions. c:

Anyways, in addition to responding here to open discussion, please dot/delete the campaign thread so you can keep track of what's going on until the game begins!

Hello and welcome! I most sincerely apologize for having neglected to create a discussion thread prior to today, but I honestly only just realized that I'd derped it up. Still, we've a month before PbP Gameday VI officially kicks off, so I thought it'd be good to start sorting out marching order, and possible 'downtime/tavern' interactions so characters might have a reason to be moving together at the beginning of this scenario.

For the most part, taglines are readable and that makes me happy - means I'll have a quick little cheat-sheet for when the game begins.

What I would like to ask of you, dear players, is to set up a marching order and botting protocol.

Also, I know I've noted that my required minimum for this game is 1 post per day, but does anyone feel confident that they could surpass that? Say, get in two or three posts a day instead? I was thinking if we all could manage it, we could hasten our progress some.

Welcome to recruitment for The Wounded Wisp!

I would suggest reading the Campaign Info tab before deciding whether or not you'd like to join. There are two key expectations I have.

1. I expect people to post at least once a day as a minimum. If possible, it would be great if we could get in two or three posts a day. If you're not able to post once a day for whatever reason, please let me know! I know that things come up and we all miss a day here or there (including me!), but so long as we're all aware of what's going on, there's no problem since we can accommodate you!

2. I'm all about the roleplay! I understand that sometimes a brief bit of text and a series of rolls is appropriate for the situation, but if you're not willing to put in some modicum of effort in your posts, describe actions with flavor, and speak in character, well. You'll disappoint me. You don't wanna disappoint me, do ya? :c

Several slots are already filled by pre-selected players, so not all seats are available. Selection will be based on a loaded lottery. I will give priority to people who have impressed me with their writing and introductions and use a lottery for the remaining seats.

Recruitment may last until full or until August 25th, the start of PbP Gameday VI. If this isn't the game for you, go and check out the other listings here! There's plenty of fun for everyone. c:

An unnamed siege castle has stood in the Cairnlands for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Magically sealed after the death of its forgotten master, no one has ever been able to breach it. Recently, a minor earthquake rocked the land, accomplishing in moments what dozens of scholars, sages, and adventurers could not achieve in years – the quake caused part of the siege castle to collapse, opening its interior for the first time in centuries.

The locals now call this tower the Fallen Fortress. You gathered and decided to take on this venture after seeing a posting on the community bulletin. A wealthy collector has hired you to collect any historical or valuable artifacts that might still be within the ruined tower. If you succeed, each of you will receive 250gp.

It’s only a few hours’ journey from the city’s walls to the Cairnlands, where the Fallen Fortress lies open for exploration.

You have a bit of time to establish in-character interactions (in addition to having decided on relationships in ooc). Treat this as 'travel time'. I'll post your approach later this evening (assuming my table doesn't exhaust me).

Thank you all so much for joining my game. c: That said, I'd like to get some housekeeping done before we get going! This meets two objectives: 1) It ensures that all of the players who were accepted actually make it into the game and haven't gone missing. 2) It gives you time to figure out how you know each other and why you're doing this adventure. 3) It gives you time to give me whatever odds and ends I need from you! :)

So! Housekeeping!

1. I'd like you to review my expectations once more, if only so we're all on the same page.

Expectations:

I've GMed in the past and am currently running a seated homebrew campaign. I've only run a bit of an AP in the past (we, in our infinite wisdom, picked the last two weeks before finals in our fourth year of undergrad, so the timing was, uh, not good). I've never tried pbp on Paizo before, so I'll probably be making a lot of silly mistakes with the forum (and also because I'm silly), so please do be patient with me and private message me to let me know what I've gone and fizzed up.
I really, really, really like reading, writing, and good story/roleplay. I would like to be able to envision your characters - please, let them come to life in my game - it'll liven the experience for everyone (I hope). A good, strong background/history will call to me like... I dunno, candy to a small, hyper child?

Have fun! We're all here to play a game, get in some good laughs, some RP, and have some fun! If you're not having fun, please let me know so we can discuss what could help to change that. If nothing works, then it's okay for you to go - don't stay if it's not fun for you.

Please post at least once a day. Don't feel pressured to give me trash posts, but a quick post that's telling me what's going on with your character - are they considering what just happened but choosing to stay silent? What are they thinking? - is always, always welcome! You're not playing with a group, so I consider it a courtesty to be considerate of the others who are awaiting your actions. In combat, I will delay your character. It's what I do at my seated table and keeps us from holding up the table.

I will be prepared to post at least twice a day. If there's nothing for the GM to add/include to the thread, you may not see anything, but I'm pretty much on the website all day, crossing my fingers for posts in other games, so you can bet I'll be doing the same with this one, especially with combat.

You will each have my email address. If you cannot post within 24 hours for any reason, please let me know. I will do my best to bot you/arrange for someone else to bot you (if you designate) until you're back to normal.

Update your tagline. Information - your current health/max health, active conditions, perception, saves - means that I can do the rolls, resolve the effects, and keep the game moving forward in a single post rather than just kind of weeping at the game for wasting a whole round of posts from my beloved players. I'll try to keep track of all players via HeroLab, but I'm still essentially a HL newbie, so anything that makes information like that more readily available will make me smile. I'll have specifics in discussion once I've selected players.

Several types of PC rolls will be made by me just to keep things moving, such as initiative, perception, or saving throws. Player dice rolls of these types will be ignored, unless specifically requested by me. This is to keep things from getting bogged down.

Combat is really hard, so please simplify it. I love roleplay - please, please type me up some of your character's thoughts, actions - and with flourish! But when I'm trying to get down to the number crunching bits and pleases, I'm going to ask you to just tell me your actions in ooc at the end of your post. Move action, standard action, etc. Also, move your avatar on the map as necessary! It's not that I don't trust you guys - I don't trust myself just yet, since I'm mostly self-taught and... Well. Rules can get confusing for me. Knowing what you're doing in which phase makes it a lot easier for me to understand what you're trying to do.

Let's stick to a standard format, shall we? I'm talking bold for dialogue, italics for in-character thoughts/telepathy, etc., and ooc for out of character questions or other discussion. We're also going to stick to third person and present tense for the present and past tense for... the past.

2. I did mention that I'd ask you to update your taglines for me. I've decided on stealing this tagline from... I'm not actually sure, so if anyone happens across it elsewhere, please let me know! Please update the appropriate areas with the appropriate information! c:

3. I know the forum's been really wonky this past week. I'll be PMing everyone that checks in my email for emergency situations.

Thank you all and welcome to the game. c:

You are in Absalom, the mighty City at the Center of the World, and you've always longed to explore one of the countless ruins of failed conquerors that litter the plains outside the city's walls.

You've heard rumors that one of the sealed siege castles has been laid open by a minor earthquake. Word on the street is that no one has yet entered the tower, which folks are calling the "Fallen Fortress." What better way to start a life of excitement and adventure than by exploring its long-abandoned, dusty halls and perhaps claiming its ancient treasures?

The Gist
This adventure assumes that all of the player characters know each other and have decided to explore the Fallen Fortress together to start their careers as adventurers.

Character Creation
I'm looking for up to five 1st level characters with two traits (plus, if you desire, one drawback for a third trait). We'll be operating at medium XP advancement.

Please stick to classes from the Core, APG, and ACG. Races can be core, featured, and uncommon, keeping in mind how NPCs may react to your appearance.

Stats are six 4d6, dropping the lowest on each roll. If no dice roll higher than 2 on any given roll, roll again. These numbers can be put into whichever stat you desire. If your rolls make you really, really sad, you can instead do a 20-pt buy.

I like backgrounds, but I'm not expecting a million pages or anything - three to five paragraphs? I think that's fair. If you get stuck, consider why you're trying to start a career in adventuring and how you've come to be in Absalom.

Expectations:

A bit of background: I got my hands on Curse of the Crimson Throne and immediately flipped through it, basically so excited I was practically vibrating in my seat. I was looking around on Paizo to figure out how to handle pbp GMing and learned from this piece of glory that one of the first suggestions is that I not start pbp GMing with a big ol' AP. That said, I went and downloaded some of the free modules and decided on Master of the Fallen Fortress, an adventure for level 1 characters.

The Questions! And now to get to the meat of this post. :)

1. I know there's a recruitment area, a discussion area, and a gameplay area - when I've played games here, they're always connected, but... They don't seem to be so tied together in the forums themselves? How do I actually go about setting up/making an area for those three things?

2. How do I close recruitment when I've got my players?

3. I understand that pbp runs the risk of losing players/GMs. I'm definitely planning to, you know, not disappear, because I don't wanna be a butt, but... Well. How do you keep players from disappearing? Granted, I'm aware that's not always something you control, in which case... Do you normally keep alternates to fill in slots if someone disappears?

4. This module also appears to be a Pathfinder Society Special? Does that mean I could run this for PFS or is there something special I have to do to be able to GM for that? I've looked through the PFS pages but I could have missed the info relevant to this question. o: If there are conditions I need to fill, what are they?

5. Do GMs use additional pieces/systems like the Hero Point system or anything of that nature in their games for PFS?

Annnnd, I think that's all I've got at just this moment. Um. I might have more questions later?
