Clerics are pretty effective fighters with their buffs, take heavy armor proficiency feat. Yes they are primarily healers, but compared to the other classes you've mentioned cleric is very "fighter" capable (better than a fighter even). In a demon campaign you can't go wrong with a cleric.

how would you recommend building one?

Do you KNOW they'll do that, or are you just "afraid" of that? It's one thing for the DM to impose logical consequences on someone carrying 80 assorted vials of acid and alchemist's fire everywhere they go (as I once witnessed firsthand), but saying all your Bombs go off at once underneath you anytime you get knocked prone or something like that would not be kosher. Alchemists were meant to be playable, after all.

I am pretty positive he will have that happen, I started looking at monk, cleric and fighter. yeah cleric is the only one that can do healing, but I think Ill lean more to damage.

Have you considered an Alchemist? It may not an actual spellcaster, but otherwise it can do everything you want while being substantially different from all the other party members - their facility with making potions and other alchemical treats should help you a great deal in this world you describe, too.

I did not, but I am afraid the DM might make it very difficult like if I fall all my stuff go boom!

I am joining a campaign where the world has fallen into chaos, demons traveling through the plans when ever they want, not to mention a lot of other bad ones, such as banshees and other spirits.

The group has a Barbarian, Magus, Witch, Hunter, Paladin, and War Priest. So I can basically play anything I like. but like last night there will be games when some people can not be there. so I would like to play a class, that uses spells, hopefully one that can dish out a lot of damage with out hindering my close range fighters, but be able to heal if our healers of the group are not able to make it that game.

We are lvl 13, 20 pt buy, and I can buy 60k worth of stuff. now keep in mind, this world is fallen to the point where we don't get random goodies at a regular bases, so what I buy now could be basically what I keep till the end. with just a few other stuff I get later. because there isn't many towns to buy stuff, and material is very rare.

Id appreciate any help I tried a swashbuckler but it didn't do so hot, and then a shaman that was limited with its attack spells due to people getting close so, any suggestions I'd be more then happy to hear.

I have recently joined a home made campaign where the world is in chaos, our main enemies are demons, so just think anything evil or fallen is my main issue. The group has a Barbarian, witch, magus, Hunter, paladin, and war-priest. Granted we are not all there at the same time, so its nice to be versatile where I can heal and do damage, so my original was a Bone, and Life shaman. Which was great till everyone ended up getting in to the fights making it harder to make my attacks without effecting my teams. So is there a way, to be a cannon with my spells (with out effecting my team) and a secondary healer?

Sorry probably should of put this as well 20pt buy and lvl 13.

Going to play skull and shackles. 15 pt buy. my co players have already chosen bard, barbarian, ranger and undecided. I played this campaign partly threw but we are doing a reboot with a new gm. So I am looking for suggestions on what to play here to compliment my group. I know one is undecided but he normally plays healer, oracle. So I want to play something that will do good on all the skill checks for the beginning and so on but I want a lot of damage.

You could go 1-5 Gunslinger and use a rifle/pistol. You could devote more points into CHA, and pretty much always hit vs. touch ac.
This is a fun way to go, actually. I saw a character in a game I played in that was a Dawnflower Dervish who danced between firing a pistol and dropping it with a weapon cord and using a scimitar. She was a Bard/Gunslinger/Magus, though the player did say he'd drop the Magus if he rebuilt.

How do you build a bard gunslinger? also are guns and ammo even in Second darkness?

No. No. All of you guys are fine I wanted to use gnome but me being stupid finally clicked the advice character guide. So I built the Elf Archer bard. it seems good. I mean I still get some spells and damage during combat, I also get most of the skills I want. We have not started yet, The game starts next Wednesday the campaign is second darkness.

Str 14
dex 17
con 10
int 12
wis 7
cha 14

feats Point-blank shot.

Traits: We are required one second darkness trait, so I went with looking for work perform (string instrument) just cause I like the Idea of a violin playing bard. second trait rich parents

Weapons:I bought a Composite long bow +2.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have a gnome bard built in a 15 point buy, and skill I want.

But can a bard be made to actually do damage?

I tend to be the only melee character in the group so I need someone durable as well as a good damage dealer I am looking at a barbarian, 15 point buy core races only. Show me the way my friends.

Honestly it could be me but I look at a barbarian or fighter as a tank I mean my group does help and my gm does not just target me the way he does it mainly is who ever hits the hardest becomes the targeted PC, but I do massive damage always its just more then 50% of the time ill be downed always till eventual I am just felt enough damage I die on the spot. So is there a barbarian build that has better ac or better DR?

So, here is where your first mistake may be. A fighter or a barbarian can be a tank, if they're built that way. But a 2 handed weapon fighter or barbarian optimized for that will, not surprisingly, not be as good at "tanking" as a character built for it. If you want to build a tank, invest in a sword and board build. That shield and the extra AC it grants can be awesome. Heck, you can have you cake and eat it too actually. Pick-up a heavy spiked shield with the bashing property and all the shield use feats. Now you can wield the shield as a two-handed weapon and retain you shield bonus and you get to use your shield enhancement bonus as your weapon bonus.

Also, someone suggested Invulnerable Rager which provides a good bonus to DR if you don't mind losing Uncanny Dodge and Improved Uncanny Dodge.

Also, are you saying that you hit hard enough that the DM makes all the enemies attack you? And keeps attacking you until you die? If that is what is happening then the only solution for keeping your character alive would probably be to not deal the most damage.

Ok well here is the question is it possible to have good ac and still do massive damage?

well if I went sword and board wouldn't it be better to go ranger?

Idk I have always been skeptical about the pally.

Ok so I have done alot of threads today... Anyways it looks like my gm has settled with the campaign second darkness, 15 point buy, core races only. I want to be a huge damage dealer it is what I really love and the two-handed fighter has been great but I always die :( and I dont see a barbarian doing any better, so can I get some advice on making a huge damage dealer with a better chance of survival?

I will look at those builds when I get home but where should I put the points and how? If I went half-org, dwarf,or half-elf?

So I like the idea of being versatile for my group so I was thinking about playing a magus. Human race but start out my first lvl as a fighter free hand arch. Take the three feats and use them for weapon finess, dervish dance, and weapon focus scimitar. Then from there take magus. Its still a 15 pt buy anything else I could do to improve this idea?

not bad but it has to be a 15 point buy so I wouldn't have that many points.

I want to build a Duel wielding Ranger, so I do good amount of damage and still have skills. down side tho at lvl 1 I can only have a max of a +1 to hit from what I made. at a 15 point buy. it saddens me so can anyone help me break a Duel wielding Ranger so I can be better in combat?

Core races, any class I believe, and 15pt buy.

Been playing Pathfinder for a while but never seem happy with what I make. I want a close combat High damage dealer like a fighter, but also would like to have more skill choices then climb, swim, and intimidate.

I know you can't have everything but I want to some things that I can do besides fight.

I would appreciate any advice here or character builds/suggestions.

again thank you all, I was not able to choose myself but I slimmed down my choices to three. I will let my group decide which of the three I will play but I will tell you the three I made.

1. Nate_lange's Human cleric of Gorum.

2. Ashe strength based cleric of Torag.

3. the third choice was one of my own creation altho it is not a "battle cleric" it have boon spells which will help. it is a halfling of Vildeis, High on healing but can be part of combat if I choose too.

Nate asked me to let you guys know and I think you diserve that much for all the help thanks again.

can't play inquisitor or Oracle core class only. And the pally wants to focus more on tanking then healing he chose pally to help the group but I could tell he did not like being the healer at all.

Ok but what race would you suggest and how should I stat it up with a 15pt buy?

Hi me and my group our going to play Kingmaker, with a 15 point buy, core race and core classes only but archetypes are allowed. I have never played a cleric before but my group severely needs a healer but that's not all I would like to do, and I would also like to be combative. Our group consists of. Rogue, paladin(Tank), ranger(bow with pet hawk or eagle), and a fire wizard(tho our gm has advised against fiery spell casters.) I have built several clerics but i just cant seem to get a deity that will allow me to be a decent healer and a battler. Can anyone help me out or enlighten me?
