True, technically, but it also restricts one from having direct involvement pertaining to said demise. If you give the order, you're still directly involved, to say otherwise would be equivalent to pulling the trigger of a gun and passing the blame toward the instrument. That's why Lawful Evil is so difficult for most to effectively use, as it has a "moral" obligation to structure(and I use moral pertaining to the rule of law) yet a selfish dedication towards oneself through "Evil". This is where the debate begins as "evil", according to western culture, is a goal in and of itself; which defined by the alignment axis is more Neutral Evil. Remember that just because and individual is Evil doesn't mean that he has to eat goat fetuses for power and get a jolly out punting orphans, on a daily basis we don't often judge our actions as "Evil" or "Good", and Evil doesn't necessarily view itself as such, for instance a Lawful Evil anti-hero could be merciless to lawbreakers because they harm innocence. He is Evil because of his approach, yet he dedicates his life to the betterment society. Alternatively, just because you're good doesn't meant you automatically ally with everyone who claims to be good either, look at the classic Arthurian legends. Lancelot, a paladin as defined by 1st edition, lied and cheated on his most trusted friend with his wife no less, but he too fought for the peoples of Albion selflessly.

Take alignment with a grain of salt, it's not written in stone and more of a guideline than anything else. There are an infinite number of interpretations for the same alignment, just play it out.

Hey just letting you know I'm still interested I have my character almost finished I just have to adapt the back story a bit because she was originally intended for a Golarion campaign, I was hoping you could enlighten me a bit on the backstory of your homebrew. I'll post with her alias later today once I have the background all finished.

It looks like I'm a little late to the party, but I'll still dot my interest and see what you have to say.

I have a few concepts in mind:

Changeling Witch - if you would allow this, changelings in PF being half human and completely different than the Ebberon variety.

And I did have another character in mind perfect for your nymph born template, but the class I had in mind was the magus which I believe isn't allowed. Just felt like mentioning him anyways.

I'll work out some stats in case anything sounds intriguing.

well seems I've had bad luck on the forums lately, I'm fairly interested, I'll most likely run a Sorcerer. I just have to find her character sheet, never got to actually run her in a campaign, and alter a few stats. I'll post her later today

May be interested, give me a day or so to post a concept though. Will most likely submit a witch, or perhaps a magus.

Hey thanks for the complements, sorry I hadn't posted earlier, I have been without a computer for the past day or two. Good Luck with the campaign and have fun!

I'm quite intrigued as well. Currently I'm waiting to see if I can't get into another game, which the DM is a bit late on picking characters... either way I'm not sure if that game will go through for me or not, only 4 members or so are getting picked and at least 10 people posted concepts. I've been dying to play a witch concept of mine and I'll post a brief synopsis to see if it interests you at all, and if it does I'll go the whole nine-yards and post a full survey and character spread-sheet.

Patron star: Spectre or reaper not sure which fits her better yet

Short background: Orphaned by the nature of ordher birth, her annis hag mother consumed her father (some unknown man in the wrong place at the wrong time) and was later killed by a band of Hellknights (will change to suit your background once i've familiarized myself with it more). She was then raised by an elder of the Hellknights who had no family of his own. They settled down in a small village where the old man took up the role of gravekeeper. She was well educated, and never knew of her actual heritage believing the old man her true grandfather and her parents dead. The old man eventually died leaving the poor girl truly alone, but she was then contacted by her familiar whom taught her powers, and revealed a maze like labyrinth underneath the graveyard for her to practice her growing talents... as she matured, memories of her grandfathers stories inspired her to take up monster hunting, she can be found wandering the land in search of power and wealth (rumor has it she hasn't been having much luck!)

Lazarus is a god-send for me, soooo many times have my computer crashed right in the middle of a massive background >.> but on occasion i've turned to simply writing a physical draft first. looking forward to a concept, I hope you have luck with both your firewall and Lazarus

Brief conclusion to my hellknights fluff as it would not let me edit my previous post

brief:
Having acquired his official status within the rankings of the Hellknights, Maximilian found his ambition only increased ten fold. Eager and capable, his extraordinary survival a feat of accomplishment in and of itself, Maximilian seemed unrelenting in his desire to prove his devotion to his fellow knights of the scourge. Task after task, many a would be criminal found himself dealt swift and ample reprimand. Taking note of his actions, his superiors decided it might be a wise choice indeed to send forth this young knight to spread the iron rulings of law out into the unknown, for both the glory of the order and that of the Chelaxian empire...

Thought I would do a quick description to help show you what I'm going for here.

Bio:
A tall and imposing figure, possessive of a harsh, yet determined glare. Maximilian exerts a demanding presence many find difficult to even forcefully neglect, his arrogance is not merely limited to only his own abilities, but the assurance that any he might lock eyes upon is naturally inferior, unless they express a rather demanding measure of worth. Even then, Maximilian finds such skill to be only barely mediocre, he expects those around him to not just accomplish but exceed all expectation to be worth even the dirt they tread upon. Needless to say many find it difficult to respect him out of fondness, but quite a few more have found it unwise to show him no respect at all. Having him simply acknowledge an accomplishment is a feat in and of itself one should take with great flattery.

Having been born not just a simple noble, but one of his unique status has ingrained within him a certain level of comfort... he dreads to go without. He is also single-minded, unable to focus on multiple endeavors at any given point, often devoting himself entirely upon his current course of action. His obsessive compulsive nature correlates well to his suitability as a Hellknight, he requires constant order and scheduling, EVERYTHING has a time and meaning assigned to its existence.

However, harsh though he may be, Maximilian means well and given the proper circumstances quite noble in his own right, even if his methods may be 'questionable'

Ok here are the basics of the Hellknight, I'm not sure how effective the build itself will be, first Hellknight.

Fluff:
There isn't much to say about Maximilian's life before his sudden initiation into the HellKnights, save perhaps what inspired the young noble along such an uncommon path. Born to a powerful Chelaxian noble family, he was to say the least, quite privileged. Spending the vast majority his days perusing whatever endeavor tickled his immediate fancy, he often demanded only the most extravagant wares so that he could tire of his new past-time only a week or so later. Some pursuits lasted longer than others, but he retains very little if any significant skill to this day save perhaps a fond obsession of the martial arts. Realizing he possessed a keen knack for swordplay, he soon found himself testing his skill against any and all who would accept. His brash arrogance and sharp wit often entangled him within many a physical confrontation that usually turned out in his favor, his notorious Glasgow smile a bitter reminder from one such botched encounter, save the moment he witnessed a master of the renown elvish curved blade. He immediately insisted on a duel, which ended shortly, however invoked a near obsession with its eventual perfection.

The only activity Maximilian found remotely as pleasing as swordplay was public adoration (or perhaps resentment) for he could often be found parading throughout the streets Egorian. One such walk had been thus far uneventful to his great dismay, as he could usually have gotten involved in several confrontations by this time, causing him to delve deeper into the more dangerous districts than he otherwise normally would have. He came upon the scene of a small child being chased ruthlessly by several men with murder in their eyes, of their exact motive he knew not, but nevertheless was instantly driven to action. He dispatched the men with ease sparing none, even beating one to death in the process of trying to discern their motive. He later found the child to be a street orphan in the wrong place at the wrong time, as the criminals had been involved in a previous murder, and tried his best to find a foster home for the poor child (It took quite a few contacts and coin before he eventually sent the child to a far-off merchant family were he became educated and well cared for). In the end, something inside of Maximilian became awakened, for he now had purpose. He propositioned the Hellknights of the Scourge for initiation, and due to his position, attained a trial and the resentment of his family.

Although he obtained the right to try he was by no means given his current position in the Hellknights. He, like all members, had to engage in single combat with a Devil of the hells for his right to bear the title. His opponent was a rather ferocious and temperamental barbazu. The battle itself was hard fought and very nearly cost Maximilian his life until the devil grew frustrated and threw down its glaive (allowing Maximilian to impale the creature as it came in to swipe with its foul claws) in a spiteful dying effort the creature raked its tendrils down his right arm inflicting minor wounds but leaving behind its foul disease, it gurgled curses through a bleeding mouth and vanished with a wicked grin on its face. He was victorious, but nearly unconscious from blood-loss, the satisfaction of success would have to wait.

fluff not quite finished will finish later today

hey, the witch is actually a changeling, sorry if I didn't mention that or make it clear in the background, I can edit this if it does not attribute well to her race. If she is of interest i'll flesh out a detailed personality and physical description, as well as a complete statistics write up. kind of been a busy day I'll still try to get the Hellknight up soon though

So my Witch is done(think I forgot to mention that in the statistics section >.< derp), hope the background isn't too long xD I was just really inspired for this character i'll work on the Hellknight later today

Background:
Conceived from the forced union of an annis hag and some poor unremarkable man in the wrong place at the wrong time half ensured Foux's orphan status from the beginning. However, that status would be fully realized after the nearby Chelexian town her mother currently terrorized, and hoped to deliver the child within, received the aid of a small band of Hellknight enforcers; the band itself thought the issue only a simple infestation of kobolds or some other meaningless vermin praying on a villager here or there. You could imagine their surprise indeed when instead they stumbled upon the dwellings of a powerful hag out in the woods. The encounter itself was still rather short-lived and soon the annis lay dead, however a senior knight noticed in a cradle of horrific construction a small infant. Presuming the child was intended for some unspeakable sacrifice he believed they had delivered an innocent from a brutal fate (although not entirely from all tampering as a result of the child's now strange appearance). He was already on the verge of retirement and this last mission was to be his relaxing twilight before his official leave. As his last duty, he felt taking the child under his wing would bring him a small measure of comfort having no family of his own. So they settled down into the town, the old man taking the role of grave-keeper (since the last one was eaten along with countless other villagers) as his way of making amends. Foux grew up in a very loving environment, isolated, but comfortable in a small cabin a short walk from the village proper. Here she grew with a private tutor in relative peace and happiness, sneaking in village children to play amongst the graves every now and again, which often ended in her dressing in sheets to scare off the others (whom so often ostracised her on account of her abnormal appearance), as well as other innocent shenanigans all until one fateful day... The old Hellknight had grown sick over the years and soon fell bedridden. Stricken with grief over having to be cared for by his sickly granddaughter (he loved "Cheeky Little" Foux, as he called her, more than anything in the world and raised her believing she was just that) he convinced her to go gather some supplies in the town so he might spare her his passing. The body was promptly taken care of and buried before she ever got home. Grief stricken, the small Foux cried for weeks on the old man's grave, each day a small Whippoorwill landing on the tombstone to sing a little tune as if trying to raise her spirits. Soon the grief passed, but the sorrow always remained, and the young Foux continued to learn, the tutor having been left adequate payment in the old man's will. She took over her grandfather's duties as grave-keeper, tending the weeds and gardening, as it was a rather quaint graveyard and very peaceful; Foux made sure to take extra care of her grand-father's plot, all the while being kept company by her little whippoorwill. Over the years she had dreams of the small bird speaking to her and telling her of magic, and each morning she would be roused by the song of the very bird; eventually her dreams became a reality. She soon found herself casting minor spells, which further increased her ability to play more convincing tricks on her peers. Her powers began to increase and she soon found herself being able to speak with the deceased, whom she promptly grew a fond disliking of, always rattling on of the "olden days". More importantly, she gained access to the maze-like tombs underground where she was able to further practice her growing art. Eventually her small whippoorwill assumed its true identity as a Nosoi, and its role to the still quite young Foux. After many years, her education complete and her powers quite mature, she became reminiscent of her grandpapa's stories of battling monsters and wicked creatures and left town to start up "monster hunting". Usually, her endeavors amounted to nothing more than the occasional feral corgi. With her career dead in the water she decided to sign on with the Society and venture forth into the Unknown!

Quite intrigued, considering a Changling(pathfinder type from the harrowstone AP), sorry to berate you with a another non-core race, however if that idea is maddening to you I'm also considering a Hellknight, of core-race, if you couldn't stand the thought of another monster PC

Im a little new to the whole PbP thing, but I've been tempted to try it out to see if it's my flavor, same goes for the PFS bit. I'm considering a Witch if that's okay.

Well I provided my email at the tail end of a previous post but I will gladly send you and email, and actually GMT puts me about two hours or so behind the east coast, I live in the rockies, so 5PM GMT would be about 7PM eastern standard.

Also just as a general notice for everyone reading this I have a website dedicated to this game and will email you a link after I get a character concept =] I'll be sure to get background, a picture - if provided or requested - on your tab as well. This will serve as a hub for out of session role-playing, item log, as well as XP and other errata.

Bilbo Bang-Bang wrote:
When I download D20Pro do I need core of full version? I see that the full has campaign data, is this required for us?

I would say just download whatever they offer its doesn't cost anything and has all of the DM tools etc if you decide to purchase the license, The trial itself is for DM content while the players option is $10 and allows for you to play in my game without taking up a players slot on my computer - which is limited to two - and all that is taken care of via a link on the d20 pro launch screen.

Well lets see, if we were to start 3PM my time(GMT), and your in the UK then it would easily be about 10PM your time =\ and considering I have one player -Blilbo- Who lives in Okinawa that would put almost 12 hours between you two... I could start earlier which would be no problem on this end, but I can almost promise you it might get late on your end, so if you have no problem with that then we as a group can determine what the best time would be to start for all of us =]

I'm planning to do this about Once a week on the designated days, don't worry if you cant make it for one I understand life happens, I myself have commitments that are both unforeseen and unavoidable but if something does pop up a little heads up would be nice so we can postpone or reschedule =]

As for days, it looks right now to be Fridays or Saturdays.

As for content, so long as its Golarion I can take it hands down, one player was contemplating a fan created class and I'm going to allow it if he is still interested in playing. I'm very liberal as a GM, so long as you have sufficient story to make it work and keep me, yourself, and the other players interested then I won't get in the way of that, just run it by me first if you think it might be unbalancing or something really out of place -like mecha xD-

For starters, all players will be 4th level so use the appropriate wealth table in the main rules for hero's, I don't restrict what you can purchase so long as you make some reference to it in your background and obviously don't go over the GP limit =]

As for adventure hooks, you won't have any relation to the original characters, but if you wan't to work with the other players and whatnot feel free I'm working on a brief into quest to get you all acquainted and whatnot, so other than that just explain why your characters would be traveling in those regions etc... and I'll do the rest ;)

For Bilbo's question I would say for a small mount you have very few options, but perhaps a wolf might be interesting... but they do eventually get large so that might prove, difficult.

I'm definitly digging the whole Asain themed summoner xD I've always gotten Final Fantasy related concepts myself, especially from X, yuna rings a perfect example to me. So I would like to see another take on it =]

And for all of you just send your concepts and whatnot to guntherschaaf@gmail.com

Most certainly, its just standard Golarion, Don't let me hold back a good concept ;)

I'm personally in GMT but most of my players are in PST, so 4PM my time is 3PM theirs, I have really no time restrictions since it will be on weekends for me so I can play till whenever. Like I said I Could use all they payers I can get, so your more than welcome. The campaign itself will take you from 4-20th level so its going to take some time, so if you have no problem with a year or so then this is the group for you =]

Yes of course I would be interested in both of your playing, I can use all of the players I can get my hands on xD if the two previous posters find they don't have the time after all then you will be absolutely necessary xD but either way I have room for you both as I have only the 3 characters I previously mentioned and one is an NPC -my character that was apart of our old group that dissolved >.<-, a fourth player I was counting on seems to have changed his mind xD apparently WoW is taking up all of his time, haha.

Anyways Im sure you will find most of the rules already in the post, so feel free to Post concepts, or let me know what your email is and I will send you just a quick little letter so you have access to my email, and the address of the site were using for the game.

Please note that ventrillo will be a requirement for this group as it will be on a VTT d20 pro so having a mic will help if you don't mind talking to other players but not necessary its just so I am better able to DM, and also note that I have only two players licenses which are already taken up so you will have to run a trial for 30 days which is absolutely free, I plan to purchase a few more after the holidays so that should be more than enough time and give me some incentive to justify the $10 a slot xD again this is a Virtual Table Top so its more traditional in that sense.

It looks as though fridays will be the default, time is still undecided.

Don't worry about it =] I completely understand just get em to me when your able

and for anyone else reading this forum I still could use one more player

Sorry for not having posted in awhile wasn't sure what was going on xD so has an "official" game thread been opened?

Stats are going to be on a 25 point build unless you want to hop on d20 pro and use those dice, or link me the results on an online die roller.

you'll be starting at 4th level, using the appropriate gold allotment in the main rulebook for PC's, I'm not sure if you were planning on a non-standard race but I'll allow anything from the bestiary, including those with racial HD so long as you don't go over 4th for example a 2HD lizardfolk with 2 levels of something or just a straight bugbear (I think they have 4HD)

But do note if you go with one of the non-standards I would like a fairly comprehensive background as to why he's adventuring etc.

Oh and if you come up with an extra special background where your character has demons from the past I can and will work with that, and I'll even throw in a custom feat or bonus if I feel you did a good job fleshing out the background, But I'm not going to award something if you just passively mention it in the Bio it has to be significant to your character. =] I think thats about it, so when you've come up with something PM it to me, link it in the thread, or even just post the statistics up in the thread.

Yeah I got the jist of it, like I said I'll most certainly allow it, but my major point in mentioning it was the fact I'm completely unaware as to how it matures but I don't think it will be a major problem so feel free

LostSoul wrote:

So what country will we be comeing in, in?

Right now it looks like I'm settling on Galt and the river kingdoms region for the first half of the campaign to take place in, with some desert trekking in far off lands for the latter half.

LostSoul wrote:

Well if we are starting at 4th I guess I could do Wizard as well.

Question, would you allow this?

Archivist.

** spoiler omitted **

I would certainly consider it if you gave me some good concept to back it up, I'm a little hesitant with custom classes as I have no Idea how powerful they get, so it could throw off encounter balance and I would have to adjust as you guys go through which is a dreadful handy cap, but by no means absolutely game breaking, I've managed it once before but it was not fun on my end xD So although I might allow it I would much prefer you didn't go that route

I'll also email you some details regarding character creation and etc.

idilippy wrote:

With a few more details about the campaign I'd be willing to commit to it. Fridays are usually fine for me, depending on the exact times. Can you see my email through my user name or do I need to put it up here?

Sorry cant see your E-mail

As a DM? well I'm new to the boards but with face-to-face groups I would say I have 6-7 years of experience, I assure you I'm more than competent if thats in question. As to the setting, like I said just straight Golarion for ease of character creation and whatnot, but thats where the similarities end, I'm going to be running as I mentioned some classic modules so I'm going to play around with some town names and whatnot perhaps put in some plot twists here and there so it feels like golarion and not some cut-n-paste construction-paper art.

D20 pro actually got me back into DMing as Its a tid bit difficult for me to find local groups anymore, its the most straightforward in my opinion and quickest to learn. I have only so many players licenses ATM, but you could give the trial a shot for a month and see if you like the program, and if you like the group and plan to stick out the entire adventure I'll purchase another slot, if you however do like it enough to buy then problem solved =]

between those choices I would prefer you to go as a divine caster, and that would probably prove the most beneficial. But I guess I should also mention the group is starting at 4th level if that changes anything, as our last group kind of fell apart so I'm picking up the spot of DM so they can continue their characters.

Well you would be more than welcome, sadly I think I have only two players licenses open ATM but I would be willing to get another if your planning on roughing through the entire ordeal with the party, hard logistics is a tid-bit difficult but it will be a 85% chance we will be meeting on Fridays but that's a flexible date I'm sure, and we also could use some more all around roles really, so bard, wizard, or even one more combat oriented class is not entirely out of the question. =]

Hey there, as the post implies I need a few more people to get my game up and running, I already have two staunch players I can count on showing up, so do not post here if your planning ditching the group after a few sessions. I highly encourage only those interested in RP to apply as that will be the primary focus of this campaign and I have a website dedicated to this group specifically for that purpose. I need 2-3 more depending on weather or not a third player counts on showing up. So far the party composition looks like this

Rogue
Fighter
Sorcerer

So its a heavily damage oriented group, and it would be preferable if we had some more diversity to add in the mix. Post if your interested and I'll e-mail you some rules on the character creation and all that fun stuff, but just to cover some basics the group will be going to at least 18 level is set in Golarion and has some very classic dungeon crawl goodies in store. I'll cover the logistics of the game as I said after I get some interest here on the boards =]

Any news yet?

Then by all means polish her up if you feel that way, I can completely relate to having ones time spread to thin... just until recently I've been out of my mind busy, just not enough time in a day it seems >_< I've actually been working on Al-Jazari for awhile now, but I'm still a little back and forth on feats/spells, trying to balance my concept with party functionality so something will have to suffer xD

I thought yours was more than satisfactory, if you feel you need to expand it then go ahead, unless of course nightflier says you need to include it xD Sigil to me has been more of an accidental weigh station than a planned one when starting with 1st level characters; so really its more of like opening a can of peanut brittle only to find an extra-dimensional gateway motif, unless your a native which is interesting in itself =] Although it might be fun to experiment in-game with such things =P

Ok good to know, many concepts seem to have shifted since the start would it be possible to get a solid list of those involved and what classes we have?

Quantom -> Oracle/offensive

Well I'm not entirely sure how this whole thing is going down but I have a completed character background and all; so I'm assuming this is some manner of PbP ordeal? will their be a specific forum, do we just post our characters on this board? So far my character is an oracle as I mentioned earlier with the bones mystery with Inflict spells, so I'm planning on being primarily offensive if that's a problem I could add a few cure spells.

Well if you are still able to play and end up being free don't let your cleric concept burn out because of me xD I was planning on going more of an offensive route anyways with channeling negative energy and the bones mystery, I also intend taking a few healing spells here and there so if need be I can supplement =]

Heh, alignment nay-sayers =P I'm beginning to like this group already. I'm going to go with an oracle if that hasn't been covered yet, I've found the class to be an interesting take since I actually despised the FS in 3.5 And hopefully with an all GM cast this group will be rock solid and I can actually get a character higher than level 5 because the GM decides he doesn't like the players so kill em off at level 4 with a Balor... seriously.

but I guess i'm still curious as to how this group is going to run? I still can seem to find as to weather or not this will be a VTT or PbP I own d20 pro but I have only two guest licenses so that could be a problem unless most people here have it, although Map tools could be another option... I think with as much potential this group promises it would almost be a waste to have it PbP but at this point I would be willing to do anything for a GM exclusive game >=3

=D OMG!!! this is the answer to my dilemma, a GM only game... thats just beautiful. I recently got involved in a game where I was actually lucky enough to be a player... sadly the inevitable took place and the dreaded TPK... So looks like I have myself some free time and this would be AMAZING... forgive me if this has been posted before and whatnot but how would the game be run? PbP or VTT?? A rotation system would just honestly just be incredible as I'm just too bummed to go with a regular group again and this way I don't have to worry about GM burnout >.< But IDK how many people are going to be involved, so if there are to many then I guess i'm SOL xD
