Thanks a lot for the insights!

To make a really long story short, we needed a dragon alive, it died, I am the only one who can ressurect it.
Problem is, I play a druid. If you don't already know, druids are equipped with a single, surprisingly low level ressurection spell: Reincarnation.
Now, this isn't my first rodeo. Our party happened to be very good at dying, so I've used the spell about four times. However, never on a non-humanoid...
With that out of the way, my questions:

Quote:
For a humanoid creature, the new incarnation is determined using the table below. For non-humanoid creatures, a similar table of creatures of the same type should be created.

1) What should the "similar table of creatures" look like for a dragon? Dragons of the same color with different ages? Dragons of the same age with diferent colors? A list of magical creatures?

2) Should the dragon get the body of a different color dragon, would it change its alignment? Should he get the body of a younger/older dragon, would its stats change accordingly? Should it get the body of a different magical creature, would it retain any of its non-body-related dragon abilities (spell-like abilities, cold subtype...)?

3) How do the penalties translate to a creature with no class levels? Does the dragon only get a -2 penalty to everything until it recieves a Restoration spell?

4) Let's assume the dragon change its alignment due to its new body (whether immediately or through roleplay over a long period of time). What happens if it recieves a Wish/Miracle spell to reverse the body change? Does it immediately go back to its original alignment or does it take time to change back, if at all?

All in all, looks like Reincarnation wasn't meant to be used on non-party-members (On non-humanoids, no doubt). Very thanks.

This would actually be almost perfect. I think the outsider type (and the shadow template) are from his assassination-rebirth thing, which may or may not have already been a thing before that.

James once said that Xanderghul is CR 28 (wizard 20 / archamge 10) and that Sorshen is CR 26 (wizard 20 / trickster 8) with both of them having Exceptional stats (25 point-buy and gear as a PC) to raise ther CR by 2.
Besides:
* I like a lot what you did with the artifacts - I would never have thought of stating his iconic mantle!
* The stat block is kind of cluttered by the ridiculous amount of templates he has (usually, the abilities from templates and classes are left out of an NPC stat block).
* Good job on the contigencies! Looks exactly like the type of contigencies an ultra-arrogant demigod would have.
* a Charisma score of 48 is way, way too high in my opinion. Nocticula, former demon lady of succubi, had 40, and while he'd hate to admit it, Xanderghul is not nearly as sexy ;)
* Xanderghul is not even a demigod, let alone an outsider! He's a very powerful wizard, perhaps the most powerful one, but he's "mearly" a mythic hero with the Divine Source ability alowing him to grant spells to his worshippers.
All in all, great effort. The maths must be nuts!

We know he had a bit of a fiasco with trying to assassinate Nocticula and that he's been afraid to do anything since, but with her being a god, she shouldn't have time to worry about him.
So, are we going to see an epic quest to recover the shards of his broken quarterstaff? Is the rumor he's trying to "defect" to a LE infernal duke (not unlike his sister) true?
Who knows.

PathfinderWiki lists several other sources, including the campaign setting book Hell Unleashed, the player companion Disciple's Doctrine and the second book of the adventure path Carrion Crown, Trial of the Beast. Full disclaimer: I haven't actually read any of those, so I have no idea as to what information they have (and whether it is or isn't the same as the information in the books you have).

Achaekek is 3.5e, in pathfinder he's a true god. But that hasn't anything to do with my point - demigods are CR 26-30, nancest demigods are CR 21-25. Demon Lord, Archdevils and the Horsemen are all CR 26-30 while Infernal dukes daemonic harbingers and nancest demon lords are CR 21-25.

All of them are different creatures/entities in Pathfinder though, with Cernunnos, the Wild Hunt, and the green man now all being statted up as individual monsters in our Bestiaries.

Well, too bad we must kill this conspiracy theory!

This actually made me more curious about Erastil's past (which I guess we'll get more of, with him being one of your homebrew world gods?)

That's strictly untrue. Demon lords/infernal dukes/daemonic harbingers and empyreal lords are direct equivalents, but opposite alignment. They are not weaker, nor stronger than the evil ones.

Actually, CR-wise the evil equivilant to the Empyreal Lords are the Demon Lord, Archdevils and Horsemen. The infernal dukes and deamonic harbingers are on par with nancest demon lords and minor empyreal lords.

From Erastil's entry in the "Deities" section of the 2e playtest rulebook:

Quote:
Old Deadeye is god of family, farming, hunting, and trade. Long ago he was a horned god of the hunt, but his worship evolved to focus on rural communities.

Emphasis mine.

From the Wikipedia page "Cernunnos":
Quote:
Cernunnos is the conventional name given in Celtic studies to depictions of the "horned god" of Celtic polytheism.

Emphasis mine.

Is it just me?
Both have antlers, a stag theme and use a bow. This can't be a coincidence.

So I had this thought surrounding the fact that Baba Yaga could just make Kostchtchie immortal and trap his soul in an artifact. I could accept that if she were a demigod or something, but she is just a regular ol' mythic NPC!
Now.
The most powerful spell a level 20 sorcerer/wizard/witch can cast is wish, right? Since Baba Yaga is mythic (10!) let's make this mythic wish.
This means that we can do it too!
Why doesn't every 20 level wizard 10 tier arcgmage make themselves immortal?
Perhaps someone is interfering.
Who knows.

I simply cannot believe no one has used the Seventh Accord yet... a meeting discussing a topic so violently blasphemous that even accidentally uttering the phrase "the seventh accord" makes the room silent could not have anything good surrounding it.

Just to make sure -
Ymeri is a four-handed centaur with a saurian lower half that has its own hands, equipped with flaming hair and flaming wings
Hshurha is an invisible, incroporeal... um... something
Kelizandri is an undead, metal-themed crystal dragon
Ayrzul is an undead, skeletal crystal dragon
So yeah. Quite a bit to be imagined (and quite a bit of work to the statters!)

So you want to play a gish. I know the appeal.
Level 20 is very easy on the gish - the early problems of having both less spells than a dedicated caster and less BAB than a dedicated martial just dissapear when you have 20 whole levels to play and multiclass with!
Magus is an excelent choice, as it has the idea of a "gish" built into the design, with the problems of action economy (can't full attack and cast spells in the same round!) adressed.
However, if you would like some other suggestions:
- a sorcerer-martial (paladin works great)-dragon disciple, if you like being a dragon
- a transmutation-focused stregnth-wizard is always fun (not much of a book nerd now, HUH?!)
That's the two main options: caster-martial multiclass or stregnth-focused full caster.
Have fun!

Nah, Book of the Damned says he ventured into the deep part of the abyss and was warped in the process. Kytons reside in the shadow plane.

Or that's what they want us to think...

Sure it does, but seeing as the trend is that she will ascend as soon as she hits CN, this won't really matter.

A paladin focusing charisma can make most of Nocticula's saves (the highest beings a DC 44 fortitude) while still maintaining high to hit (charisma to attack from smite) and ridiculous damage (double his level to damage).
My vote is for Baba Yaga for being the highest CR caster enemy.

Well-written - you have a good grasp of formatting!

There are other considerations at play, of course. Could the combination of available abilities be most optimally acquired from a specific form, creating an overpowered option? In addition, when creating polymorph spells, remember that they grant all natural attacks of the chosen creature... and outsiders are notorious for pouring a lot of power into a relatively small body. The lilitu demon, for example, offers four 2d8 claws and a tail slap that targets touch AC, along with 60 ft. speed both on land and by air, all at Medium size. And that's just pulling the first thing I thought of from a hardcover Bestiary, without scouring the entire canon.

Hopefully this helps shed some light on the process. ^_^

True. This will be especially bad with things like the marilith... Maybe limit the amount of natural attacks per spell (kinda like what the Form of the Dragon spells do, but "limited to 2 claws, a bite and a tail" instead of "you get 2 claws, a bite, and a tail")?

I'm thinking CR limits should be the way to go. I know it is kinda counter-paizo in that no other spell does that, but for outsider i think we should make an exception.
Thoughts?

It should be possible to do something like "Form of the Oustider [size, alignment]" and then in the description split it up to various outsider categories, like:

Form of the Evil Outsider
School transmutation (polymorph); Level cleric 3, druid 5, magus 4, sorcerer/wizard 4
Casting time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a piece of the creature whose form you plan to assume
Range personal
Target you
Duration 1 minute per level

You assume the form of a Small or Medium creature of the outsider type and the evil subtype. Your base speed changes to match the new form’s base speed, with a maximum speed of 60 feet. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities, you gain those abilities: climb speed 30 feet, fly speed 30 feet (average maneuverability), swim speed 30 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, [insert low powered abilities unique to evil outsiders, preferably 1 or two from each subtype], and scent. If the form you assume has the aquatic subtype, you can breathe air and water. If the creature has any weaknesses, you gain those weaknesses.

You can more easily cast spells that the creature has as spell-like abilities, although you must still cast them as normal for your class. When you cast a spell that the creature has as a spell-like ability, it requires no verbal or somatic components and can’t be countered.

Small evil Outsider: If you assume this form, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Dexterity and a +1 natural armor bonus.

Medium evil Outsider: If you assume this form, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Strength and a +2 natural armor bonus.

Does anyone know of a way to kill an entire army of about four hundred mooks within a few minutes max? Access to 9th level druid, cleric and sorcerer/wizard spells, if neccessary.

Even just regular Tucker's Kobolds give me nightmares. Having pimped Tucker's Koblods? Bye.

That's a cool idea! Great disciple of Dahak who's actually a "measly" kobold (dragon disciple 10)... I like!

While you could obviously just throw an ancient white dragon on your poor players, wouldn't it be way more fun if it were an unassuming critter that turns out to be really strong? Like, high double digit CR strong?

Imagine this. Your players are walking through an orphanage (it is probably Shivaska's child prison because they're high-level and all, but whatever) when suddenly they hear a terrible pluck sound, followed by a high pitched scream and the buzzing of a pair of diminutive wings. Being well versed veterans they immediatly assume (correctly) that it is a tooth fairy and, being mythic veterans, shrug it off and go on helping that poor child. What they don't know, however, is that this is The Tooth Fairy (with a capital T) - Shivaska's personal pet who is a 20th level rogue and very, very fond of mythic teeth.

Or how about this. The players, traumatized but alive, are now walking through some forest (maybe to request the favor of a dryad or something) when they hear steps on the forst floor. As soon as they see three small canine faces they recognize the pugwampi, the ultimate stall troll (at least for 3rd level mooks, that is. They are mythic heroes). Knowing the aura of failure that surrounds these guys they refrain from doing anything that involves luck such as attacking them, preferring to utilize no-save spells. However, they find that even seemingly luckless tasks tend to fail (they can't seem to remember where they've put the spell component pouch, someone sneezed during the spell and they missed the last syllable) - all because these are the actualy the three advisors of the local Glaistig, who is known to despise trespassers.

What are some of your ideas to boosted critters?

PD

I think we need an official ruling (a bit late, but still) on all wild shape DC-related questions: they are all based on polymorph spells (so 10 + spell level + wisdom), but wild shape is a supernatural ability (so 10 + half druid level + charisma), BUT the abilities are keyed off real abilities (so either 10 + half HD + relevant ability OR something else, depending on the ability). Sheesh.

Hi James! Will we get more info on the recent... um... "development" in Nocticula and Socothbenoth's relationship?

Hi guys!
Currently rolling up a new character for an upcoming campaign, and I need help on two things:
1) What bloodline is going to fit a rainbow oriented sorcerer? Fey seems like a decent choice flavor wise but the spells and abilities just don't fit the concept. There's a fantastic bloodline called hyperborean that's basically perfect but sadly it's 3pp.
2) What rainbow spells exsit other than the prismatics (spray, wall, sphere...), that are all very high level? Spells like disintegrate are also cool because the ray itself is colored (green in this case).
Thankies!

So plot device it is, then.

With the new book of the damned came, among other things, three sets of boons for the demon lords. In Socothbenoth's third evangelist boon, it says:

Quote:
you can cast polymorph any object as a spell-like ability. Unlike with the spell, you are not limited to existing forms; you could turn the target into a three-headed nymph or a centaur-like creature made only of human body parts, for example (although this does not apply to inanimate forms, such as turning a human into a sculpture of soft clay or vice versa).

So, how do the stat adjustment and new abilities work? For the three headed nymph, for example, would you get three bite attacks? Would it key off of fey form? Can you turn into specific individuals? Is there a size limit?

PD

Only environmental cold damage is non lethal. IIRC, there are spells that SPECIFICALLY state they deal non lethal cold damage, so we can safely assume this means cold damage is lethal (i.e., subtracts from your current HP).

Ok. Let's start of with the fact that although at 17th level a wizard is reality-warping powerful, at level 9, which is right around where most characters start coming together, a wizard is already capable of trivializing entire encounters with spells like dimension door. Seeing as a wizard has access to both divination spells and teleportation spells as well as insane knowledge skills, "scry and fry" becomes an ever growing threat. For reference, scrying is a 4th level spell and teleport is a 5th, at level 11 a wizard can:
A) use the appropriate knowledge skill to learn of an enemy's weakness(es)
B) prepare the right spells to exploit said weakness
C) scry
D) fry
E) ???
F) profit.

PD out.

Although Paizo has consistently published 5 dragons of a new type with each bestiary, it doesn't seem like people are using them with anything other than the odd rift dragon BBEG or something. So, what do you guys think on things like a half- lunar dragon template or a sorcerer with the sovereign dragon bloodline?

Hi there folks,
I'm currently looking to eventualy make the entire Paths of Prestige as a source for PCGen. I'm starting with the mammoth rider (no particular reason) and since I don't have a large coding experience, I have a few coding questions:
1) How do I make the Gigantic Steed ability make the animal huge? Is it just "SIZE:H"?
2) How do I affect the animal companion?

This:
BONUS:ANYPC|WEAPONPROF=TYPE.Martial|DAMAGESIZE|1|TYPE=Size
is how you make a pc have large-sized martial weapon damage, no idea how to make it apply to animal companions and natural weapons.
3) How do I make "only really big animal companion[there's a list]" a preq?
Thank you all very much. I am flagging this in case it's the wrong forum, though.

perhaps including a step in which you will need to show the qualities required for a role such as the one you will be taking as a celestial (great soldier as a solar, leader of armies as a cervinal and so on).

I see your points. Many of these were bugging me constantly while coming up with these rituals.
1) I think a person who does these good deeds IN ORDER to get a reward just won't please his empyreal patron enough, thus not becoming his goal alignment. Only truly good people get that little G at the end of their alignment - selfish people don't.
2) exceptionally good people, in my opinion, should already be well rounded and experienced with goodness. Showing your devotion to the upper realms is in and of itself, a sort of "formative experience".
3) you're 100% correct - I meant to include a cap on the HD of the celestial you will become. Problem is, the original cap of BotD2 is "no more HD than twice your class levels", making an 8th level fighter be able to transform into a marilith, more than TRIPLING his own CR. I think a better limit is "no more HD than half your class level", at most one-and-a-half-ing your CR. And yes, a 20th level paladin could transform into a shield archon for a total CR of 30, but 20th level paladins, man.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I happened to own a copy of both the Book of the Damned 2 and Chronicle of the Righteous. One thing I found absent from the latter and exiting in the former is the demonic ritual (or it's celestial equivalent, anyway). So what if I'm a devout worshipper of Cernunos and my dream is to transform into a cervinal agathion and hunt devils with him for the rest of eternity?
So let's do some homebrew, shall we:
Shamelessly copying almost exactly the steps to demonhood, I (or rather, Book of the Damned 2) came up with four steps.

1) First you choose an Empyreal Lord to worship - they should be of the celestial type you wish to end up as. Then, for a year, you have to continuously perform acts of goodness and kindness as appropriate to you celestial mentor. At the end of that year, your alignment shifts to that of you mentor. Even if you are already the right alignment, this step is still necessary in order to attract an Empyreal patron.

2) At some point during the second year, you must contact you patron using either the spells commune or contact other plane. The patron must then be noted of your desire to transform into a celestial - the spell cannot be used to ask any other questions. After this is complete, but before the year has passed, you must burn an item of significance to you in a temple desecrated to that patron. This item should not be a living person - we are good guys, after all. You need to make a DC 20 knowledge(religion) check in order to make the sacrifice correctly. If the item is also of importance to your chosen patron, the DC drops to 10 (making even someone not trained in this skill capable of making it). Once the sacrifice has been made, you permanently receive the benefits of a celestial ritual of mortification.

3) at some point after the first ritual is completed, but not always after the second is, the patron sends you a vision of a task that you must complete. This task is often of importance to the patron, and one that you have no hope of completing before you get more powerful. You must maintain your weekly devotion to your patron (making acts of kindness to strangers and praying in the appropriate temple are popular options). Once the task is completed, you will need to make a special ritual of honor to you patron - you must make a shrine to them, made with materials to honor your patron. In order to make it correctly, you need to make a DC 30 knowledge(religion) check, with a +1 bonus for each cleric of the religion helping you make it. When you successfully build the shrine, you will be permanently given the half-celestial template.

4) for most, the half-celestial template is enough. But for some who want to take it even further, there exists a fourth ritual. Each year after completing the third ritual, you must conduct a ceremony at that exact date, honoring your patron in a way appropriate to it. After that, you must make a DC 40 knowledge(religion) check, with a comulative +1 bonus per each such ceremony conducted. Once you succeed, you become a full-fledged celestial - you immediately lose the benefits of you previous race as well as the half fiend template, but can apply all your class levels to your new celestial race (for example, an elf ranger 10 can become a lilend ranger 10).
So, what do you think? Do you even think this sort of thing happens (a mortal deciding it wants to become a celestial)?

What's the DC for the will save, you ask?
