To make a really long story short, we needed a dragon alive, it died, I am the only one who can ressurect it.
Problem is, I play a druid. If you don't already know, druids are equipped with a single, surprisingly low level ressurection spell: Reincarnation.
Now, this isn't my first rodeo. Our party happened to be very good at dying, so I've used the spell about four times. However, never on a non-humanoid...
With that out of the way, my questions:
Quote:
For a humanoid creature, the new incarnation is determined using the table below. For non-humanoid creatures, a similar table of creatures of the same type should be created.
1) What should the "similar table of creatures" look like for a dragon? Dragons of the same color with different ages? Dragons of the same age with diferent colors? A list of magical creatures?
2) Should the dragon get the body of a different color dragon, would it change its alignment? Should he get the body of a younger/older dragon, would its stats change accordingly? Should it get the body of a different magical creature, would it retain any of its non-body-related dragon abilities (spell-like abilities, cold subtype...)?
3) How do the penalties translate to a creature with no class levels? Does the dragon only get a -2 penalty to everything until it recieves a Restoration spell?
4) Let's assume the dragon change its alignment due to its new body (whether immediately or through roleplay over a long period of time). What happens if it recieves a Wish/Miracle spell to reverse the body change? Does it immediately go back to its original alignment or does it take time to change back, if at all?
All in all, looks like Reincarnation wasn't meant to be used on non-party-members (On non-humanoids, no doubt). Very thanks.
Ok. Let's start of with the fact that although at 17th level a wizard is reality-warping powerful, at level 9, which is right around where most characters start coming together, a wizard is already capable of trivializing entire encounters with spells like dimension door. Seeing as a wizard has access to both divination spells and teleportation spells as well as insane knowledge skills, "scry and fry" becomes an ever growing threat. For reference, scrying is a 4th level spell and teleport is a 5th, at level 11 a wizard can:
A) use the appropriate knowledge skill to learn of an enemy's weakness(es)
B) prepare the right spells to exploit said weakness
C) scry
D) fry
E) ???
F) profit.
Hi guys! I am still pushing through with the guide, however, as many of you stated this guide features many more dips and feat guidelines and so on and it is taking me awhile.
I happened to own a copy of both the Book of the Damned 2 and Chronicle of the Righteous. One thing I found absent from the latter and exiting in the former is the demonic ritual (or it's celestial equivalent, anyway). So what if I'm a devout worshipper of Cernunos and my dream is to transform into a cervinal agathion and hunt devils with him for the rest of eternity?
So let's do some homebrew, shall we:
Shamelessly copying almost exactly the steps to demonhood, I (or rather, Book of the Damned 2) came up with four steps.
1) First you choose an Empyreal Lord to worship - they should be of the celestial type you wish to end up as. Then, for a year, you have to continuously perform acts of goodness and kindness as appropriate to you celestial mentor. At the end of that year, your alignment shifts to that of you mentor. Even if you are already the right alignment, this step is still necessary in order to attract an Empyreal patron.
2) At some point during the second year, you must contact you patron using either the spells commune or contact other plane. The patron must then be noted of your desire to transform into a celestial - the spell cannot be used to ask any other questions. After this is complete, but before the year has passed, you must burn an item of significance to you in a temple desecrated to that patron. This item should not be a living person - we are good guys, after all. You need to make a DC 20 knowledge(religion) check in order to make the sacrifice correctly. If the item is also of importance to your chosen patron, the DC drops to 10 (making even someone not trained in this skill capable of making it). Once the sacrifice has been made, you permanently receive the benefits of a celestial ritual of mortification.
3) at some point after the first ritual is completed, but not always after the second is, the patron sends you a vision of a task that you must complete. This task is often of importance to the patron, and one that you have no hope of completing before you get more powerful. You must maintain your weekly devotion to your patron (making acts of kindness to strangers and praying in the appropriate temple are popular options). Once the task is completed, you will need to make a special ritual of honor to you patron - you must make a shrine to them, made with materials to honor your patron. In order to make it correctly, you need to make a DC 30 knowledge(religion) check, with a +1 bonus for each cleric of the religion helping you make it. When you successfully build the shrine, you will be permanently given the half-celestial template.
4) for most, the half-celestial template is enough. But for some who want to take it even further, there exists a fourth ritual. Each year after completing the third ritual, you must conduct a ceremony at that exact date, honoring your patron in a way appropriate to it. After that, you must make a DC 40 knowledge(religion) check, with a comulative +1 bonus per each such ceremony conducted. Once you succeed, you become a full-fledged celestial - you immediately lose the benefits of you previous race as well as the half fiend template, but can apply all your class levels to your new celestial race (for example, an elf ranger 10 can become a lilend ranger 10).
So, what do you think? Do you even think this sort of thing happens (a mortal deciding it wants to become a celestial)?
PD
Okay, so we all know the Brute archetype for the vigilante sucks, and pretty badly so - every time you get into a stressful situation (including but not limited to starting combat) you need to make a will save or go berserk.
What's the DC for the will save, you ask?
20 + 1/2 you level, duh.
I challenge you to be able to make this save. Bonus point if you can do it from all the way to level 20 and a cookie if you can do it from level 1.
I think there's a real chance that any work done on a shifter guide now would be invalidated by the Ultimate Wilderness errata (at least, I hope it would) so it's best to wait.
I think people are in the "hmm... maybe I'm missing something" stage of trying to find shifter builds they like, and aren't ready for an exhaustive survey.
Oh no you're right! well, may as well just do it and edit when time comes for the all expected errata.
Since you bring it up PD - how about writing one yourself? As a non-spellcaster with a very finite number of options it would be an excellent class for your first class guide.
You know what? Excelent idea!
"You eat what you are, for you eat everything - Potato Disciple's guide to the Shifter"...
A wizard banning conjuration causing major problems? I'm shook.
Anyways, it seems like you have an extremely magic-focused party. I would suggest buffing up your barb and going to town but I don't know how it's built. In any case, try focusing non SR spells (which are sadly mostly conjuration spells).
Alrighty. So every prestige class has prerequisites - in the case of AA it a BaB of 6, the feats point blank shot, precise shot and weapon focus with a bow and the abillity to cast 1st level spells, meaning if you wanna go ranger-wizard, the earliest you can start taking levels in the PrC is 7 (ranger 6 wizard 1). After that, you take levels in it the same way you'd take levels in any other class, getting what it says at every level. Note that in the table it says that certain levels also increase your wizard casting as if you have just gained a level in it (including an increase in CL and spells prepared but not spells known in your book).
Ps, why 3rd party advice and rules question? AA is core.

Multiweapon Mastery (Ex)
Andirifkhu never takes penalties to her attack roll when fighting with multiple weapons.

Sadist (Ex)
Every time Andirifkhu deals slashing damage to a target, she can add 2d4 point of bleed damage. Every time she is hit by a slashing weapon, her regeneration is increased by 2d4 points for 1 round (this effect does not stack with itself).
True Infuse Weapon (Su)
Any weapon Andirifkhu wields gains a +3 enhancement bonus as well as the unholy enchantment, and is treated as being cold iron and evil for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
critiques are welcomed. Sla's, feats and skills are intentionally left out.
This makes me wonder if there's ever been a tier list for "Easy to play" "Medium difficulty to play" "really hard to play, new players please avoid."
Generally -
easy to play: fighters and spontaneous casters with no other abilities (sorcerer and caster oracles, mainly)
Medium difficulty to play: gishes (melee Druid and oracle included), fighters with extra abilities and pools (ie rogues and monks) as well as 4th level casters
Harder to play: classes with buddies (caster Druid, summoner), casters with complicated mechanics (magi and kinetisists)
Really hard to play, new players avoid: prepared casters.
DON'T: wizards.
And as to "three or less rounds of combat", in my opinion any god incapable of slaying an entire adventuring party as a free action at will is not worth it's title.

Well we have a crap ton of "the first x" demon lords(andirifkhu and mariliths, nocticula and succubi...). How about some sort of a "first lilend"?
Dorma, the wind scale - azata empyreal lord of music, storms and snakes
CG patron of musicians, aeronauts and
Domains - air, chaos, good, scalykind (wind, azata)
Symbol - a bolt of lightning shooting from a flute
Colors - yellow, grey
Animal - snake
Weapon - longsword
When the first musician died, her soul was transported to elysium. A towering, beautiful eleven woman with a long serpentine snake, the first lilend has magnificent wings which she uses to invoke storms upon evildoers.
How about an archon?
Minavera, the Hidden Claw, archon of vaults, secrets and precious metals
LG patron of guards, treasure keepers and miners
Symbol - a golden loot chest filled with papers.
Animal - lion
Weapon - greatsword
Colors - grey and gold
Good, law, earth, knowledge (archon, metal, memory)
The Hidden Claw appears as an immense sphinx with three pairs of angelic wings. Created long ago by Abadar in order to protect the first vault, she once possessed knowledge of everything to have ever existed. Her extremely long lifespan, though, clouded her memory, and she now spends her time guarding the entrance to her home, the Vault of Endless Knowledge.
"But daddy, what if I don't want to mercilessly murder humans?"
"Nonesense. Now shut up and eat your elves."
Of course dwarves help sight. Have you ever seen a linorm with glasses?
Well if it DID give you all the abilities of your new form, you could just permanently PAO your pseudodragon familliar permanently to a great wyrm copper dragon. Nope. Even then, having your permanently polymtphed as per FotD (III?) is not something to sneeze at.
Bard, Alchemist, Investigator, Inquisitor, Summoner, War Priest, Mesmerists, Occultists, Spiritualists, Magus, Hunter and Skald are all in that Chassis.
There are loads.
Also the Mesmerist is quite far from the bard. Lol.
Whoooops! Guess too much crb only campaigns have drained my knowledge to... well, potato level.
As a follow up for the "Who's your favorite empyreal lord" thread(which my disapproval of has nothing to do with my recent affair with Rysky), who's your favorite demo lord?
Mine is nocticula (for obvious reasons). Three tails is just enough tails, yo.
Neshen's followers are those who desire to turn their lives around and embrace the path of light. The knights of the Steel Lash may require them to undergo physical duress and difficult obedience, in a process that can take years, but those who come to him eventually reach their coveted atonement.
Well as you all know, I'm a very evil potato with a habit of raise threading everything i see.
If it's still relevant, I think this could be a rather weak cr+3 template, as it doesn't give many immunities, extra attacks or HDs, but it gives nice stat boosts and special abilities.
99. Don't bring a Synthesist to a Pathfinder Society game.
99b. Don't get into a 2 hour argument with a gaming group that is following the Pathfinder Society rules and not allowing your Synthesist in a Pathfinder Society game.
222(haha!). don't bring a Synthesist to a pathfinder game if like your GM.
222(woohoo)a. dont bring a Master Summoner to a pathfiner game if you like your friends.

Elemental lords! We have 8(4 rip) and not only is only one stated(Ymeri the fire lord) but there's actually no artwork once or ever of any of the others. Also, positive negative energy elemental lords. Also also, aeon lords and protean lords.
Somewhere on the d20pfsrd website I found an ability that allows a spell caster to use Form of the Dragon III to get a gargantuan dragon form. The stats looked pretty good, and I meant to include this ability with a new high level villian I am working on for my campaign. But I forgot the name of the ability or where it is from (might be 3rd party). Does this sound familiar to anyone??
Hi there. Sorry for late-ish answer (was just casually strolling through the paizo forums). You might be thinking about the Tarnhelm. it's a mythic major artifact.
It's a mythril cap that, along with other things, allows you to polymorph into a gargantuan dragon. With a bit of houseruling it should be fine.
have fun,
PD
the Marilith, in my humble opinion, is one of the scariest monsters out there. I mean think about it - a CR 17 serpentine abomination with 10 attacks, one of which requires a DC 25 fort save or you just pass out from the sheer strength of its tail! I just love the concept of a six handed snake-y control freak leading the armies of the abyss. Mariliths, yo.
Just give her a couple of levels of gunslinger a host of double barrelled pistols and you're all set however it does work better with HaketonKheires having 100 hands and all
[also...3 years of divine healing is pretty impressive]
[as well as thank you lady J? And ?? For suggesting this]
Oh man, I don't even wat to think about it...
on a second thought, how would a Hekatonkheires attack with a gun? just fire and hit everyone in his reach? Screw CR 30 monsters, dude.
