Behold the Risen Thread! Seriously, I want a Pathfinder decal for my Pathfinder. Anyone?

Scarab Sages

Are we still doing this?
Venture Captain Peca the Deathly (Sorcerer of Osirion) was considering a lodge in Riddleport. The publicly advertised purpose is to attempt to foster trust and communication and eventually information exchange with the secretive Cyphermages. Those who spend so much time unlocking the secrets of the ancient Thassilonian monuments such as the Cyphergate would be of immense value as allies.
The 'secret' purpose was to attempt to provide a bit of support and safe haven for the Liberators (see Second Darkness campaign). Although this endeavor is entirely in line with the Andoran philosophy and will be truthfully pursued, this is technically a ruse to provide the 'secret' which is ironically necessary to be 'trusted' in Riddleport. This will likely be foiled on a regular basis by the local gang bosses and city leaders that the Liberators harass. The assistance to the Liberators and the failure rate due to gang meddling will be carefully and continuously titrated to ensure that the Riddleport Lodge never becomes either too successful or suspiciously incompetent.
The true secret purpose is to foster communication with the intelligent underwater denizens of the Varisian Gulf, and an a set of underwater chambers will be built that are reachable via Dimension Door from an anchored ship or Teleport from land to facilitate that process. Of course, this can also be a stepping off point for those trusted Pathfinder agents equipped for underwater adventuring as well.

I think we broke it.

Spoiler:
Animate Dead on Briarborn Juggernaut. It's a horsey!

You may need to consider how to handle that. Our GM had to take a break to figure out what would happen. And we still ended up effectively ignoring a large part of the module. Official ruling may be necessary.

Similar situation. We just bought... a Pathfinder. Okay, so where is that Pathfinder Roleplaying Game decal so I can replace the boring chrome thing stuck on the back?

Scarab Sages

I don't get the kerfluffle. It's a book about uniquely unpleasant beings in the setting of Golarion. The title is self explanatory: "Bastards of Golarion". No one who speaks modern American English could possibly mistake it for anything else, and Paizo knew that.

Hmm..., if we look at the entire Cthulhu pantheon, and how Lovecraft handled them, I see all the Outer Gods as being a form of Chaotic Neutral so far off the chart that while they sit at the table, Good, Evil, Lawful, and what we call Chaotic are all just sitting on the same dinner plate waiting to be mixed together with a fork.

Maybe we invent a new alignment for them. "Insanely Weird" perhaps?

In my mind, a true Cthonic breach is one of the few things that would bring demons, devils and angels to the same side of the battle. There's no such thing as Good and Evil if reality itself goes.

So yeah, let's authorize them! :)

Take the fighter aside. Tell him you'd like him to play the role of Samwise Gamgee in the Frodo/Gollum/Sam menage a trois that you see coming. This might frame things in a way that will make the game palatable for him.

Dude, I was SO reading through hoping no one else had seen that obvious connection so I could post it. Dang it!

<shrug> I'll offer. Does the order matter?

Like Mike said the greatest gift is probably letting them play.

Become a Store liaison.

If you're not the GMing type:

Gift Cards are always nice and help covers some of the cost of running events. Probably the best would be:
Paizo
Amazon
Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, ect. (Printing all those chronicles and boons can get pricey)

Next time the the Guide gets updated print it out for them and get it bound, with their Lodge info on the cover, at one of the stores above.

Also putting up a thread that says what a great job they did is always awesome. Plus to add to Doug's list its great advertising for future events they run.

Not sure what a store liaison is but it sounds like work. Ditto for printing stuff out for them. :) GMing for Venture Officers sounds like a good way to show exactly how little you belong in that chair.

I got them $50 Paizo gift certs. They can liaison for themselves. ;)

Although gifts are a nice gesture, something more personal can go a lot further. With so many VCs and VLs on the boards now, a little public acknowledgment goes a long way. Recognize your Venture Officers by name, and identify how they made the convention a great experience.

  • This sets them apart from the rank-and-file.
  • It gets the boss's attention. There's a reward system in place for folks who go above-and-beyond. Self-promotion can be awkward for some.
  • It is very motivational and counters burn-out.
  • It helps the VO's identify how to make conventions special for future attendees.
  • It inspires the VO's peers to brush up their own game.

So let us know who these guys are, and give them the public praise they deserve :)

Good enough.

Venture Captain is Kelly Youngblood of Houston. He ran three days of PFS gaming at Owlcon without any major hiccups (no problems = lots of work!) and bent over backwards to make sure everyone got into the games they wanted. Lots of happy players, me included! A well run con is a fine thing to see.

Venture Lieutenant is Marc Vanderbrink of Houston. Along with assisting Kelly, I think he GMed every slot and absolutely persecuted my older son's character for (I think) three of them. I realized just how insightfully genius that was when I noticed how big my son's grin was as he recounted how many times over he technically should have died. Major kudos for personalizing his gaming experience.

Give the PC a discount on buying items on chronicles.
Even just 5% and suddenly people would start paying attention to what is on chronicles again.

Just a thought...

That seems like a promising idea...

ABSOLUTELY! Every time I see silly stuff on the chronicle sheet I think exactly the same thing.

Also, I can see the 'logic' that what you see is what you came across, whether it makes sense or not. Unfortunately that's only logical from a GM/Game Designer POV.
Now from the players' POV: "Yeah! Lot's of work and blood but we did it and I'm stoked! What cool stuff do I now have access to buy?... +1 Cloak? Seriously? Well, maybe it costs less... no? Dude, why bother wasting the ink to print it?"

Now, would game balance truly be affected if 'found' items were available for 50% off? ...as long as it was for everyone? That's a lot, yes. But all of a sudden finding things is actually important! You know, like in the home games. :)

I'd like to give my VC (and VL) a good whack on the back for a con they recently ran. (the PFS part, that is). Can I credit their accounts or something? Or maybe a VC out there can suggest something they'd appreciate?

This brings up a question I have had for awhile. Scenario: One PC gives a 2nd PC a potion, the potion is used during the scenario. At the end of the scenario the 2nd PCs buys the same potion and wants to give it to the first PC. (I said this wasn't allowed, and explain why). The 2nd PC says that he would still buy it and cross it off his chronicle sheet as used and the 1st PC would not cross the potion off his sheet (essentially, the PCs exchanged potions, but nothing changed on chronicles). My initial reaction was to not allow this either; but in the spirit of Pathfinder cooperation, I did. It hasn't come up since but I'm wondering if I handled this correctly. I also wonder if there is an official way for players to replace items they used that belong to another player. I have only GM'd low tier scenarios, but I could see this being a bigger issue once you run into higher level potions/scrolls.

The best logic I've seen applied to this says that as long as PC #2 buys the same item, 'returning' the loaned/used potion/scroll to PC #1 before the end of the scenario, PC #2 simply bought the item for and used the item on, himself! The only 'tweak' was the order in which it was done. So, as long as it's not illegal to buy and use potions, you're good. The order really shouldn't matter.

Nope. If he purchased the license to Pathfinder material through Hero Labs he paid his money and Paizo got some of it! That satisfies the "pay to play" thing you've got going. (And don't assume it's all that cheap. They get a decent cut.) I fully understand your urge to support the system and the vendor. But just because I can afford both Hero Lab licenses and the books doesn't mean I feel the next guy has to. I bought the books with almost the same sense of reverential respect that you seem to have for the vendor and the game. And I'll loan my books to anyone who needs one at a session. You're right. You don't have to police it. And I think everyone appreciates that.
