Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

That's probably for the best, with the recent forlough I'm having to work seven days a week just to make ends meet.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

I'll hang around the edges of the crowd and keep an eye on the rest of the group.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"I don't understand, just how big were these riots? The paper said something about cults, so is this a witch hunt or an investigation?"

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Did Keith ever actually give us our money?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin just shrugs and follows Sams, it would have been difficult to explain his motivations. He knew that he would be able to ignore the effects of sleep deprivation just as he had many times before. He was less sure about Sam's endurance, so he figured it would be better for the both of them to let him get a full nights rest rather then try and to fend off fatigue throughout the day.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

I'm gonna let Sam sleep all night and burn Heart of the Fields to ignore the fatigue

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin was silent at Sam's first words, the events of the evening made him feel dirty and he just wasn't much in the mood for festivities. Then when the body hit the ground and Sam began to bolt away almost immediately, Oswin took charge.

"Sam wait!" barks Oswin, grabbing him by the shoulder. "We should avoid running or drawing attention to ourselves. Just stay with the crowd and go with the flow, we'll split off later."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin is weary from the events of the day, and though he doesn't much feel like participating in any festivities, he doesn't want to return to the inn either. He resigns himself to following Sam towards the cathedral, may as well.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"Sam I think we should go out the back. I get the feeling that our actions may come with due scrutiny and one visit from the kindly Inspector is enough for my tastes."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin spits after the creature after it flees out the window. He then turns to follow Sam downstairs.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"Blood is blood friend, and your hands as well as mine are stained with it. In the end, no fate nor god made you fight. You chose to draw your blade, and you chose to take their lives. There is always a choice, you just have to ask yourself what you are willing to risk. Are you willing to risk that this rat won't go out into the night and kill again?"

Oswin nods at Sams order, though this whole ordeal has left a sour taste in his mouth. He stands above the wererate again, this time with his greatsword out. The light from the moon glints off the blades silver coating. "So are you smart enough to run Slim? Or do I have 'help you'?"

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"You wish him to go unpunished? Look at him, he grovels on the ground like a dog. He feels no sadness for the missionaries, only that his life is now in question because of it. For someone so steadfast against murder you managed to cut down more than your share of goblins without hesitation."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"If only he had given such consideration to those he murdered, we wouldn't be here in the first place."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin will go with whatever Sam says

Oswin hears Jesse comment and assumes he is making some kind of joke. He steps over the cowering form and growls even louder. "I said: SHUT UP."

Intimidate: 1d20 ⇒ 15

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Well he killed those people, that's for sure. He doesn't really seem that remorseful either, it's more like he's saying whatever he thinks we want to hear. Sure he's weeping and all, but I don't really see how he is the victim yet.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin turns and growls to the cowering man "Shut up"

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"I don't like the idea of being an unknowing pawn, and from the way he's jibbering it seems like this whole thing was orchestrated."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin stands in the doorway, his axe held at the ready and waiting for Sams call. He speaks: "For a killer he sure does cry a lot."

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"Right." nods Oswin, slamming his massive frame into the door and drawing the axe hanging from his belt.

anything need rolling?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

you read my mind. I won't be able to post more till later tonight, work stuff.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswins steps inside, the floor creaks below his feet. He speaks aside to Sam: "Maybe we should leave someone down here, in case Jesse decides to-" he glances at the doorman "take leave before we get the chance to speak."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

I must admit a certain sense of trepidation as to this hunt. On the one hand, I'm pretty sure we can take the wererat in a combat. On the other, I don't have much confidence that this is a cut and dry case.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin strokes his chin: "You're right, this doesn't seem to be a clear cut matter. We don't know if this Slim Jesse has a history of violence or what condition the tourists were found in..."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin ponders Sams words as they walk. "In the future there may be time to purchase such a weapon. Unfortunately, right now I can't afford much more than what I have. Hopefully we can avoid drawing this out any more than we have to. Though I do have some concerns as to how we are going to go about this, possibly our visit to Blackchapel will shed some more light."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

If the inn has a fireplace I'm going to us it to apply the blanch to my greatsword before we depart.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Indeed crafting your own equipment has a whole lot of asthetic appeal. Personally I would be doing more work on getting around the scent ability, but since I don't know about it my hands are kind of tied.

However, a single weapon blanch applies to 10 pieces of ammunition per application. Additionally, since your ammunition is likely already going to be automatically destroyed on impact, it doesn't really matter that you can only get one hit out of each. Finally, since you are using metal cartridges you would only be heating the slug, not the wholly crafted battle. It would take more time since you would have to assemble the bullet afterwards, but I would imagine it would still take less then 4 hours. So you go from paying 5 gp per bullet to 5 gp per 10 bullets. Since I don't plan on hunting lyncanthropes regularly, a weapon blanch is fine for me right now.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Sam I think it would have been cheaper to buy weapon blanches for your bullets, and also faster. Though it's not like we can do anything about it now.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

So I can't reasonably justify Oswin wandering off to find a library so I'm just gonna work with what I know.

Oswin nods at Sams suggestion. He pays for his room, preferably near to that of his charge, and goes upstairs to quickly wash the stench of the battle off himself.

Afterwards, he grabs his gear and heads out of the inn into the market district to purchase some supplies:

Items Purchased:
Inn room - 3 gp
Weapon Blanch: Silver x2 - 10 gp
Wolfsbane x2 - 10 sp
Puzzle Box (DC 10 Intelligence check) - 5 gp
Chocolate - 5 gp
Honey - 1 gp
Package to Veilhime - 5 sp
Total: 24 gp, 15 sp

Oswins heads to the post office last, carefully wrapping the honey and chocolate and placing them inside of the puzzle box. He writes a tag to place on the box: For Lulu. He then purchases a package for Veilhime and addresses it to Olando. In the package he places the puzzle box, 100 gp, and two letters.

Letters:

Dear Lulu,
Today I arrived in a beautiful city the likes of which I have never imagined. Trains that belch steam from their bellies
are constantly moving to and fro, ferrying travelers within them. I too rode on one of these machines on my way into the
city, it moved at a blistering pace and I was able to sleep peacefully in the afternoon sun. The city itself is majestic,
and at its center there is a giant tower that rises so high that it touches the sky! Maybe if I climb to the top I will
look out and see our house. Then we can go back there and all live together. You, me, and Uncle Olando.

I bought you a present at one of the markets. I put it in a special box that you'll have to open. You're a clever girl,
I know you'll figure it out! Be nice to Uncle Olando now, he's not as young as he used to be. Be a good girl while I'm gone,
and make sure to eat all of your dinner so you can grow up big and strong. I'll be home soon, I promise.
Love,
Daddy.

Olando,
I have arrived in the city of Coldglass on the continent of Hannal. I have a new charge and for now the money is continuing
to flow in. The train we were riding on was attacked but I, along with a few others capable of fighting, were able to run off
the bandits. We were questioned briefly by an inspector but after that we were allowed to carry on about or business. Other
than that the journey has been relatively uneventful.

In this package I have included some of my earnings as well as some presents for Lulu. I hope it finds you well. It should be enough to last for a while.

Oswin.

Afterwards he collects the rest of his supplies and returns to the inn.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Damned scent ability; it's like the poormans blindsight and makes this situation a whole lot more tricky.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Darn my barbarian brain. I was hoping for:

rat: scent
people: no scent

rat+people: scent

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

So could I then extrapolate that a wererat will possess some (if not all) of a rats abilities?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Wait hold on. Thought moment:

Do I know the basic concepts of werebeasts? Like that they are a hybrid of a human and a type of animal (in this case a rat)?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Tomorrow we will, right now I need to go to bed unless Sam posts within the next 15 or so minutes.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Cool, right next to the wererat who murders tourists! Here's to hoping he isn't going to try and jump a 6' 4" monster and instead just stays in hiding.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Aaaarg crabapples, well is there a library that I can hit up for more info?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Hmmm alright, does that include the scent ability? I think that's my biggest hurdle right now.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

So what, like the whole bestiary entry or just the major points like shapeshifting, lycanthropy, and silver weakness?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

"Sam, I need to step out and take care of some things. Can I trust to find you here when I get back?"

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Yeah but I'd like to see if I could get a little more of a one-up knowledge wise. Unfortunately, with a DC of 12 I won't be able to make the check untrained without a library.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Hey now there could have very well been surviving goblins on the seventh car. I'm sure they will return to their tribe and help the rest of the community band together to support the families of those who lost their brave loved ones.

Side note: what skill should I be rolling to find out more about were-creatures. Knowledge: Dungeoneering?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Is there really a difference? The old "two wrongs don't make a right"

Ahhh, but what do I care. I'm playing a barbarian and just wasted four goblins without batting an eye.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Well crap, looks like DnD has outsmarted me again. On the other hand: Yay! Solving lawlessness with murder!

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

I'm putting money on rat as in informant

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin speaks up from behind Sam:"One hundred gold, they must be quite the rats."

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin motions at the goblin blood that is splattered in patches across his body. "If it's any consolation, some of it is mine." He then follows Sam as he exits towards the back area.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

I'm fine with the split as it is now and in the future.

Does postal go to the other continents besides Hannal?

Oswin had never seen a city anywhere near as massive as Coldglass. Honestly, the whole experience left him eerily stoic. Mostly he just stayed near Sam, following his orders with little question. After all, he did seem to know what he was doing.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

What do fees run?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Oswin follows his charge, carrying their baggage with little effort.

Are there post offices or couriers in this setting?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Mostly Oswins stands at Sams side, listening without speaking. He didn't know much about the art of wordplay, but even he could tell that there was a battle going below the words of his charge and the inspector. When the integrity of their actions was questioned, Oswin finally speaks up. "Seems to me like if we hadn't intervened, that train would have been off a lot worse. I'd say that we should be the last people getting hastled."
