Hi,

i just have some questions about the Holy Vindivcator's Shield ability:

1. The shield ability lasts "until the vindicator is struck in combat" - does that mean just by successful weapon melee/ranged attacks or also area spells and touch attacks? Or even activated traps that use an attack roll?

2. Do I have to expend 1 daily use of channel energy to activate the ability?

3. Do I get the AC bonus from all sources of channel energy (e.g. cleric) or just from the vindicator levels? Seems to be really powerful if you just dip 1 level into vindicator and else remain a full cleric...

Hope you guys can help me with that! :)

Hi guys,

just a quick question about the Pack Lord!

In his Improved Empathic Link ability it states:

'This ability replaces the 6th-level additional use of wild shape.'

Regular Druid entry says: 'At 6th level, a druid can use wild shape to change into a Large or Tiny animal or a Small elemental.'

Does it mean that at 6th level he also can't shape into new large/tiny creatues or is it really just the increased use of wild shape?

So he can use wild shape up to 7 times/day before hitting level 20 and then still can shape at will?

Hi guys,

just wanted to know whats the big benefit of summoning and binding outsiders?

In Ultimate Magic there is a whole chapter about the different kind of outsiders and a desciption of their individual likes/dislikes, but what exactely should I do with a temporary imprisoned elemental or other outsider?

I think it's a bit too expensive and the preparation is way too long for binding them just before a tough boss fight, so... what's the point?

Can I bind them for a life-long service or other permanent benefits?

Hi guys,

just a quick question about Toopling Spell + Magic Missile and it's DC:

My wizard wants to cast a Magic Missile (+ Toppling Spell), his CL is 5.
For Toppling Spell he has to make a trip check against the target, using his caster level + Int...
In general his CL is 5, but what if:

*) he has Spell Focus (Evocation)? Does the increased DC of the spell also apply to the metamagic effect?

*) he has the Gifted Adept trait? So his effective CL for Magic Missile is 7, but only for that spell. Does he also have an increased CL for the metamagic effect?

Hi guys,

I have some unsolved questions regarding magic items and their the chance to buy them in cities/towns:

1. I just read about the settlement sizes and saw the table about minor/medium/major items.
So does it mean that if the group is in a metropolis (largest community), all minor magic items are available in the local shops, 4d4 medium and 3d4 major items? Will the stock items change or does a town stick with their rolled items?

2. Does the availability restriction only apply to wondrous items, rings and other stuff or also magic weapons and armor? And what about scrolls and potions?

3. There is a 75% chance that a specific item within the town's base value is available. If I fail to find the item I want, can I go and look for a sorcerer in town to let him craft it instead? I know that there is a settlement-dependant table about spellcasting prices in towns, but are there any rules about ordering items instead of buying stock items?

4. Can I upgrade my magic items (for example Longbow +1 to +2) in town?

5. How do you handle the item availability in pathfinder?

Hi guys!

I have two questions regarding templates and their adjustments:

1. Let's say I want to create a NPC with the Half-Celestial template. The template entry says: "Alignment: Any good"...

So, does it mean that the NPC has to be "any good" alignment before aquiring the template or will he just change to "any good" alignment afterwards? Can I choose the specific alignment or does he have to turn from chaotic neutral to neutral good?

2. After aquiring the template, the ability scores mostly increase/decrease from the base creature... But what about the devilbound template?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/devilbound-crea ture

"Abilities: Adjust the base creature's ability scores according to the kind of devil it is bound to." (followed by a list of adjustments)

Do I first have to decrease the +2 racial ability score of a half-orc before increasing the individual new scores?
Or won't the racial scores matter after the character creation?

Ok, now I'm really confused...

I can give the item more charges/day, but only according to the table, right? [Divide by (5 divided by charges per day)]

But I DO have to give the item charges (or make it continuous)?
I can't create (for example) Gloves of Stone Fist according to the following calculation:

Spell level × caster level × 1,800 gp (for command word and unlimited uses per day)

And I completely missed that it says 'Use-activated OR continuous'

So, use-activated items could be any trigger? For example, activate item whenever I got hit?

williamoak wrote:
Note: command word does NOT give you limitless usage, it still has limited uses per day, as per their example (cape of the mountebank).

Oh, I always thought that they are not charged, because the price is drastically reduced when I apply charges to the item...

So i guess the Ring of Feather Falling or Ring of Invisibility was created as an continuous item according to the table, am I right?

Ok, so just to be clear:
If I create an item (for example with the spell Mount), I can only craft it as a command-activated item which has 5 charges or less/day?

Thnx for the quick response!

I think that we just avoid continuous magic items at the moment... :)

But regarding command-word activated items:
Is it possible to craft (non-continuous) Gloves of Cure Light Wounds (without charges/day)?
Seems to be pretty cheap although you have to activate it every round to get the effect.

The wizard of our group recently got into the creation of wondrous items. Now I have some questions regarding customized items and the price table:

1. Are there any restrictions for creating continuous items? I know that their price depends on the duration of the actual spell, but what about spells that are instantaneous?

2. Can I create a continuous item with a touch spell such as 'Cure Light Wounds'? Does it mean that the person wearing that item permanently has a glowing hand and everything he touches instantly heals his hit points?

I assume that you can only create continuous items with spells that have an actual duration, but I can't find any rules...

3. If an item was created with a quickened spell effect, does the caster level increases as well regarding the price?
For example a command word activated item is:

Spell level × caster level × 1,800 gp
Mage Armor (1) x 1 x 1,800

Quickened Mage Armor (5) x 1 x 1,800
or 5 x 9 x 1,800

I guess it's the second one but I wanted to make sure I don't get anything wrong with the item creation rules!

I have a question regarding the Synthesist who casts a Polymorph spell such as Elemental Body:

As I read the polymorph rules, I guess that when casting the Elemental Body spell while having my active eidolon suit, my eidolon gets the updated ability scores and improved natural armor, as we are one and cannot target seperately.

The Polymorph entry says:

Polymorph wrote:
While under the effects of a polymorph spell, you lose all extraordinary and supernatural abilities that depend on your original form (such as keen senses, scent, and darkvision), as well as any natural attacks and movement types possessed by your original form. You also lose any class features that depend upon form, but those that allow you to add features (such as sorcerers that can grow claws) still function.

I don't think that the eidolon itself is a supernatural ability, so it stays active; it just loses evolutions/speed and gains the natural attacks/speed and ability scores of the elemental type.

So did I miss something? Do you think the eidolon can be targeted successfully by an elemental body spell?

I know that in the FAQs there is an entry about how the synthesist can only use his hands (for attacks, spells,...) when his eidolon has limbs.

1. But what about the base speed? If my (for example) Monk/Synthesist with an increased base speed (without the eidolon) is fused with his suit which has legs, does he get the increased summoner speed or the eidolon base speed?

2. And what about Races with wings? What happens to my natural fly speed when my Strix Synthesist calls his eidolon suit?

Is there some kind of rule that only the highest speed counts when fused?

great, so far there are many possibilities for my soon-to-be soulless character!

Does anyone know if I still have control over my character after applying the devilbound template?

but the gate effect of the candle is some kind of alignment-restricted (at least for the target), so instead of the 10.000 gp it would be cheaper I guess.

Maybe the gate spell costs are included in the material costs of the candle and is now cheaper because of the alignment-restriction...

I don't know the exact pricing calculation, but for creating the candle you only need the gate spell (and alignment), and it's a single-use item, so it would be pretty way cheaper without the included gate-material costs, or am I wrong?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I just recently looted a Candle of Invocation and now I want to know if I have to pay the 10.000 gp material cost of it's gate spell ability?

Or is it already paid when the crafter created the candle?

sry, i don't want to push, but our next gaming session will be soon and I need some details about the sending spell...

Do I need to know the exact name (for example Peter, the Devil) for the sending spell or is it enough to send a message to any contract devil if my character knows of their existance?

Infernal Contract Broker wrote:
Summoning a devil and inform him that you wish to negotiate with a devil for services...

So, just to be sure: The Spell Summon Monster (Imp) doesn't count that way I guess to inform a devil. But finding a living imp of talking to a wizard' familiar imp and telling him to call one of his fellow devils is ok? And because they really want my soul, they will show up.

Infernal Contract Broker wrote:
The best means is to send the Sending spell to: Contact a Contract

But I don't have to know his name or know him personally? Simply shouting/sending the words "Contract Devil, please show up, I want to trade my soul!" would work?

If that really is ok, then I will definitely buy a scroll of sending soon! Maybe for a contract devil to gain some wishes... or some random devil who should possess my body (devil-possessed template) in exchange for my eternal soul and a quest!

Diekssus wrote:
frankly though, if you really want to sell your soul, just call out to the great As, he'll hear.

If I do need to know the name of the contract devil for the sending spell, the I could send Asmodeus a message... except if he has another true name... is he also that eager to get my soul like the other minor devils or will he send me a contract devil to do his work instead?

Great, looks promising!

Regarding the Sending spell: Do i need to know the "true name" of the specific devil or is it enough to know (whether through research or knowledge rolls) that there is for example such specific outsider as a contract devil and then call him without having seen him before?

And is there any way some animal shops in the world of Pathfinder sell Imps just like they sell Pseudodragons and other exotic stuff?

Hi,

I just wanted to know if there is an easy way to summon a devil or demon for closing a contract?

For example to sell my character's soul in exchange for gaining a half-fiend template or something like that.

I know that there is a chapter in Ultimate Magic about binding outsiders, but is there a way (before gaining the planar spells) to just call a devil for help?
