Hello!

As you've probably noticed my abilty to keep up with this game has gotten beyond annoying.

I was hoping to let you play out the rest of the dingeon as you wished and wrap up after you'd gone back and reported in. That feels impossible right now. There's only one combat left, but realisticsally I'm not going to manage it.

I will write out a wrap up post, it will jump through a few small chunks of time. Feel free to respond to it in bits or together.

It's been a fun 4 years, and this game has run faaarrrrr longer than I ever expected.

Thank you all, you've been ace.

Sorry for the delay folks. Life is pretty full on at the moment.

I'll pull together something for you over the next few days. How do you want to go about the next bit?

You've succeeded in your ission, but left an injured friend behind. There's a doorway you haven't explorted, or a now fairly easy way back out.

I will freely admit I've been lax in the awarding of hero points, and I'm sure Cev hasn't used any. But either way, you should all have had one going into that fight, so there we are.

He's awake, on zero HP and doesn't have a wounded condition.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

As Cev's condition worsens, the heros plung all of their resources into the Jackel. In a scourge of fire it is reduced to a pile of ash and slag, without even a last taunt able to leave it's lips.

Even while victory is secured though, Cev's last ounce of life ebbs away. Blood stops seeping from his wounds. His chest stops rising and falling. As fire sweeps by him. He passes.

Dying always includes a value, and if it ever reaches dying 4, you die...

You can spend your Hero Points in one of two ways. Neither of these is an action, and you can spend Hero Points even if you aren't able to act...Spend all your Hero Points (minimum 1) to avoid death.

But, Pharasma smiles upon Yuelral. A hero's work is never done, and this champion has earned the aid of his God, and in turn a favour from the Lady of the Grave herself.

End of combat. Sorry for the delay. That one wasn't easy. Well done.

As you watch on in horor, the Jackal opens it's third eye, and with it stares at Bwess. As it does so, her conviction drains away. At the same time she feels as though her motor functions are somehow failng. It takes a concerted effort, but Bwess throws off te effect, and the Jackal growls in frustration.

Despite my typo above, the troll's AC is 20, so some very near crits, but unfortunately you're on basic damage. That said, it's weakness to fire tips the balance.

The group sends an onslaught of fire, acid, stones and even boar tusks flying at the troll. As much as it manages to avoid most of the missles, a scortching ray and Bwes' acid spell strike home.

The troll staggers, and then, as it's skin again begins to bubble from the fire, it tumbles to the ground.

You watch for a moment, but even it's regeneration doesn't kick back in. It's dead. And you are safe.

You hear noises outside the door, not enough to make out who, or what, but enough to know it's not the snuffling of the owl bears that have been keeping you in here all this time.

You move back through the room with the now dead owlbears. The double doors, although grand, also look, shabby. They don't seem to have been used in a while, but they are firmly closed, but don't look to be secured in any way.

Just for avoidance of doubt too. If I get it and think changing is worth while mid game, I'll make sure *everyone* is onboard with that before we do. I'm not here to make arbitary decisions :D

Elo Zozakzod wrote:
GM, would you mind putting the map link in your status line (gender, race, or class field) for quickest access?

Yes. The problem is that every time stuff on the map changes, I have to export it, upload it, grab the link for it, and then post it. If I'm going that as part of a post, it's easy, I just stick it in URL tags. If I'm updating my status to it every time, it's a lot of extra clicks. Then, when I inevitably forget, you all get confused by the out of date link.

That said, you all have access to the google drive folder the maps are sat in. You can save that link and look at the latest whenever you like.

Elo Zozakzod wrote:
Separately I also now realize I've been neglecting your prior requested format for round actions (but generally nobody is doing it). Would it help for us to return to that format?

Yes, it makes my life miles easier, it would also help if you kept an eye on the table I post in my action posts, it can get out of sync with effects you have going on quite easily.

Finally, Elo's actions will finish off the Owl bear, so everyone else may want to have a quick check in with what you actually want to do next, and edit your actions accordingly.

This combat has taken quite a while, and is clearly taking a toll on all of us.

The end is in sight though, and the reward for finishing it up is quite vast. You've skipped through some rooms that hold a wealth of information once you are in a position to go look at it.

You're doing great! Keep it up.

I hope your kid gets better soon Esha, take the time you need. It sucks when they aren't well.

Just a quick update. I'm all moved now, and should be able to be back to regular posting. This fight is *hard*, each of these foes is a fairly difficult encounter, and it's hard to not end up with them both at once... That said, (as you can see from the map) this is the last encounter of this section.

At which point we have just section three to complete and the module is done!

Two people rolled for Steetch, so I'm going with the first one. You are in luck, that's a crit dagger throw!

Calvus moves forward, calling upon his god to throw a lance of divine light. Unfortunately it narrowly misses the Orc, who laughs.

Steetch uses Calvus for cover, moving forward and throwing his dagger, it strikes the other orc in the leg, causing a gaping wound. The orc immediatly clutches at it's side, the grin wiped from it's face.

Esha races over to an orc, now utterly enraged, and no longer a laughing matter. Her flaming axe also opening a massive wound on the orc's side.

Like Calvus, Val moves forward throwing out a beam of divine light. Like Calvus, it also misses narrowly.

Elo fires off three missiles, the first one hits and takes down the orc next to Esha. So the other two he directs at the remaining orc. As these two bolts of energy hit, he also crumples to the ground.

The room goes silent, except for your heavy breathing.

Well done, end of combat. A couple of well placed crits there did the job!

What's the bet the seller won't actually be moving back in? Property prices are going up. They probably figured they could get a better price but 2 weeks out you just can't simply Jack up the price, hence the owner "moving" back in.

I *totally* expect that to happen. The fact that it needs a decent amount of work doing to fix leaks and stuff, and it's not decorated to a very high standard now means that they will never get what they want for it. But hey, we move on and hopefully this one comes off.

Good people of the recruitment thread! I come cap in hand to your door again.

We have just completed part one of a three-part module, and one of our fellows has chosen this time to retire as an adventurer.

It feels like a good time in game to recruit another two players.

Before putting your hat in the ring, please do read the Campaign Info page. I look for at least 1 post a day during the week, a bit more flexible on the weekend. I'll ask others to run your character's actions in combat if 48-72 hours go from the time I've asked for your post.

That said, I tend to ask for groups of people to act and then put the results together. Have a look in the game thread if you want to see what I mean. We just got out of a meaty combat.

Finally, I'll try to give preference to people who've been unsuccessful in getting into this game in the past.

Go!

I know the feeling. I'm playing a soldier in a starfinder game on a different forum. I have a huge gun, that does crazy damage, and I can't roll more than a 10 to hit.

Then the spear launchers on here that should hit you on a 2 or crit on 12, I'm rolling 19's for...... It's so unfair.

Your imperfect, impromptu, circus performance just happens to be perfectly times. The inn is filling up with local farmers. Presumably here to trade with Bort and to have a meal and a drink while they are out. A small crowed, including some of the caravan teamsters and the stable hand from the inn gather round to watch.

Most of them take your failures as part of the act and laugh and applaud loudly. A few even throw a copper or two your way. You bring a smile to a lot of faces, even if one or two tut and walk away.

Marin collects the coppers up diligently.

Collect 10CP

Your act does though mean that you have to make a choice between either being clean and presentable at table, or being on time...

Good questions! I always forget this stuff....

No other limits on character creation that I know of. So long as you can link me the stuff (preferably on d20pfsrd.com) so I can reference it. I reserve the right to say no to *anything*, but I don't think I have ever said no yet.

I have 5 Play By Post threads, three are APs that started and eventually fizzled out, as these things often do. The other two are Pathfinder Society and Starfinder Society games where I've run quests through to completion. I've been on these forums for 15 years now, and I've been in some loooong running games, so the chances of me disappearing are low ;)

Ideally I'm looking to run the whole AP. I know first hand what sort of time commitment that is though, so I'm happy to take it on a module by module basis.

Oh, and yes, Starting at Level 1

Thanks for that.

My only problem is the maps really. I think I'm one of the minority that thinks the starship rounds are actually better than normal initiative. A bit more communication between you lot as to planning and stuff may be nice. But I think that's a result of not having a map to base discussions on.

I may just see about getting an A4 dry-erase hexmap and using that to keep track myself.

The communication system you describe above sounds workable.

Because I am not sure I have made it clear so far, I am going to be very explicit now.

You have just entered the final one of a series of quests, the previous quests have been acquiring clues and knowledge which not only give you a good flavor for this fight, they give you mechanical advantages too.

As far as I can see you have found all but one f the clues, so have gained almost all of the mechanical advantages. So if a few things I say don't make much sense, that is probably because I haven't communicated the clues to you as well as I could when you found them.

We are in the final straight now though, and the culmination of this adventure. I am going on holiday in 2 weeks, I would love to have this wrapped and reported before then. <cue arguably Queen's best ever bass riff> ;)
