Hey guys, I know this is sorta-crappy timing on this but I think I'm going to step away from this game for awhile. The main reason is that work has been busy and my schedule is all over the place due to being short-staffed and it's making it harder to keep up the energy to post for all my games. A secondary reason is that I've found myself taking more interest in Pathfinder Society games - playing in them but even more importantly, running them myself. Since GMing takes more effort I've been looking to cut my own player load a bit (and turning down long-term game invites) so I can focus more on my games that I'll be running.
It's been fun playing for the time that I've been here and hopefully writing Nah out/into the background for awhile won't be too difficult; she can act as an ambassador between the new kingdom and the Sootscales and I also imagine duties as Magister could keep her very busy. Thanks again for the invite to play and I hope things start looking up for everyone :)
You know what? Let's add that +2 to Intelligence. It might seem a little strange, but I actually kinda think it would be neat for Orrel to be/become an investigator on down the line. Thoughts?
"That's right! Noble Sootscales live in what humans call 'Stolen Lands'," Nah whispers. "Humans help Sootscales with uh, leadership dispute so not mind humans as neighbors so much now. And they sent Nah with humans as ambassador!"
As Jamanda clears her throat and Orrel returns to his seat, Nah listens with mild interest regarding the task ahead. "So...fancy human party then? Need to uh...what was word Pizz use? Uh...'hobnob' with other fancy humans? Nah and Boo can do that!" From her shoulder, Boo utters a trill of agreement.
Will do, GM. I've been a bit busy with weird work hours as well as with nearly all of my games suddenly exploding with activity but I'll try and get Orrel's stuff finalized (including giving what 'class' he might be some additional thought) soon!
Nah gives the human boy a curious look and even tries to offer a bow in response, but she snorts indignantly when he asks what she is. "Nah is kobold of the Sootscale tribe! Kobolds proud cousins of the great wyrms," she explains, puffing out her chest a bit. But then she deflates when it becomes apparent that Orrel doesn't seem to understand what she's talking about.
"Dragons," she sighs. "Humans call them dragons. Kobolds are cousins of mighty dragons, just smaller size is all. But smaller size doesn't mean less fierce!" she adds.
I think that aside from maybe Valeriya choosing something, everyone seems good with the list Lali made. From an OOC perspective, Val could pick a role and it can RPed as her taking it temporarily until she decides whether to stay with the party permanently or until we can find someone else to do it. Seems like the easiest way to do it and still maintain some verisimilitude.
And regarding our pages, I've got two questions: do we need to apply any templates to them, like the young template? And since I'm assuming they're all human, do they also get the racial +2 to any one stat?
Orrel the Page (Subject to Change):
Str = 13
Dex = 10
Con = 13
Int = 12
Wis = 10
Cha = 12
No templates or +2 racial bonuses added as of right now. Str, Con, Int, and Cha got bumps based on the short description given of him.
Regarding High Priest, we've still got Jhod (sp?) hanging around right? He's a priest of Erastil if I remember correctly though asking Kaz's mentor to take the position would work as well :)
General: I'm good with Kesten if he wants the job.
Warden: I'd actually be in favor of having Akiros do this if we can convince him.
Councilor: Maybe Oleg or Svetlana? They'd be a good liaison between ourselves and the rest of the citizenry, especially if they also want to keep running the trading post. Of course Val should get first crack at this or Warden (or one of the other positions) if she wants it!
"Nah can help teach! And Boo too, we're the best at teaching," Nah responds, reasoning to herself that teaching humans can't be that much different than teaching kobolds. "Or...we can help crack heads, keep people in line. We good at that too," she grins toothily.
Noticing the children staring at her with wonder, Nah then surreptitiously sticks her tongue out at them when she thinks none of the adults are looking.
"Uhm...Nah think so, Nah and Boo not have much else to do..." the kobold begins, but then remembers that they'd talked about meeting up with Cyanne and Daen at some point while they were in Restov. "Well, maybe meet old friends of humans but not sure when that happens," she amends.
Then she glances up at the Sub-Bishop and the others. "So what happen if a human house takes Stag Lord? They make him work way up from peon or something?"
"If other peoples wanted land so bad, why they not make move before now?" Nah asks. "Seems silly to hoard something if you not going to use it! And sillier to get mad when someone else comes along and wants to use it since no one else using it."
The pink-scaled kobold folds her arms over her chest. "Know humans have own rules about things but need use common sense too! If not going to use something then make agreement or something to say it yours even if not using it - or expect someone else wanting to use it instead."
"Nah and Boo help, have all sorts to say about Stag Lord's crimes! Er, but...not go first. We save best for last - or at least later!" Nah whispers to the others, trying not to gawp too much at this insider look into the justice systems of humans. "Oops, sorry. Guess Nah need to call him Boors Sad-ow-skee right now, huh?"
"Oh right, Nah forgot about the drawings...just thought some sort of strange human fetish thing," the kobold shrugs. "Sounds like could be fairy-creature like Lali say; fairies strange and tricksy...not surprise Nah if fairy play tricks on the Stag Lord."
As the Sub-Bishop walks away, Nah looks to her companions. "So...they help us if we find out more about this 'She'? Nah like that idea, more help means things get done faster!"
I'm so sorry for your loss, Aest. Do what you need to do to take care of things and if that means posting a lot, a little, or somewhere in-between, then I'm sure we'll all be around. I tend to cope with death in a similar manner (distracting myself) so I understand where you're coming from on this.
A little of my frustration is with myself, because I want to try and do my part to help keep things moving along but this particular situation is one where I feel Nah is a little out of her depth and unable to help a whole lot. Of course I knew there would be situations like this when I made her but I'd also kinda counted on the other PCs (including Eric's when he was still with us) being able to pick up her slack in those cases, heh.
At any rate, I'm not going anywhere. Most of my other games are relatively active and I've started GMing a bit of PFS so my own posting might be a little slower than I'd like at times. But I *will* get to it as I'm able :)
Nah narrows her eyes as the Stag Lord rants and raves about childhood and mysterious lovers. She was still pretty new to interacting with humans; was this sort of thing...normal?
Sense Motive:1d20 ⇒ 9
Huh...this one seems like he means what he says...
After the interrogation is finished, Nah follows Valeriya and the others out, though she can't resist sticking her tongue out at the Stag Lord once his back is turned.
"Nah not know...didn't find a 'she' after taking the fort," she shrugs. "Er...not any 'shes' like he talk about, anyway. Not find any sign of a 'she' like that either, right?" she continues, glancing at her companions for confirmation.
I'm still around too but to be honest I'm having a little trouble staying focused since the posting has been so sporadic. This isn't an attempt to throw stones or the like; I know several folks here have been busy with RL (since it's summer for most of us) or dealing with other issues and so posting understandably takes a backseat. But I can't deny that it does mean that I tend to put this game lower on the priority list for posting to when there *is* an update :(
Nah frowns, unusually silent for once. Truth be told, the Stag Lord had a sensible point. He'd been strong enough to take over the old fort and had had enough muscle to push the weaker humans around. He'd fallen because Kaz and the others had ultimately proven to be a stronger group than his. Didn't nature work the same way?
The little kobold shakes her head and continues to listen, even as she wrestles with her own thoughts on the matter.

Still here; Nah just doesn't have anything especially pithy to input just yet :)
Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans, happy Tuesday to the rest of the world! And remember kids, it's not a proper rendition of the 1812 Overture unless it has cannons!
"Not deserve death?" Nah frowns. "Nah pretty sure he does, but...Nah know it important to follow rules, too. Rules keep things from getting all twisty and tangled."
She looks over at Valeriya and shrugs. "If human rules say Stag Lord gets trial then Nah guesses that what should happen. Nah and Boo can go with; curious to hear what Stag Lord has to say." However, a wistful expression does cross her face. "Hope he not talk for ages though, Nah want to go see Cyanne and Daen too! That where Lali want to go, right?" she looks to Lali for confirmation.
That night, Nah settles in happily in her part of the room though she momentarily seems unsure of what to make of having a proper bed to sleep on. After a few test pokes, prods, and bounces, she nods with approval and quickly slithers under the covers.
"You...you watch Boo, watch for trouble," she yawns sleepily. "Probably fine, but...just in case..." she mumbles as she drifts off to sleep.
______
"Nah likes this Sub-Bishop," the kobold whispers. "Him and friends seem like go-getters! Get trial done with, then be on to other things. Good plan," she nods as she waves cheerfully at the man.
I know I've not really been commenting on this but that doesn't mean that it's not been on my mind. I definitely agree with Aest and Lali that it sounds like some sort of treatment would be a good idea, especially if this has been going on for awhile (which I get the feeling that it has). You need to take care of you first; don't worry about stuff like the game right now. We'll be here whenever you feel able and willing to post, okay?
"He nasty, nasty human," Nah replies, wrinkling her nose with disgust. "Him and bandit friends make lots of trouble for other humans and kobolds too! Well, until Kaz and Nah and Boo and others kick him out and take his fort," she grins.
"Oh, lots!" Nah responds and begins counting on her scaled claws as she rattles off names. "The Dark Prince, Sorrowmaker, the Countless, the Mistress of a Thousand Cuts, the...what?" she stops when she catches the looks everyone is giving her.
"Um...but Nah not really, um, worry about them too much," she adds hastily.

With any decent Kn. Religion role you'll realize Nah is referring the likes of Asmodeus, Dahak, Andirifkhu, and Mammon :D
Hey folks, just a heads-up that I'll be heading out town Thursday morning to a convention and likely won't be back until either very late Sunday night or very early Monday morning. I'll have my Kindle and phone with me but I'll likely not be posting at all during that time. Please feel free to bot me as needed while I'm gone :)
For the first moment or two after Valeriya introduces herself, Nah simply gapes up at her as she tries to process her words. Although she'd been a fairly quick study, there were still words and bits of the Common tongue that eluded her understanding.
"Uh..." she gapes. "So, human lady from earlier send you...to help us? Nah understood that part at least but not sure what an Ab-a-dar is."
Then she grins.
"Like name, though. Nice and long and hard to say, like proper wyrm name! Nice to see humans with good taste," she continues. "I'm Nah and this is Boo. We team of two before but now do bigger job, part of bigger team!"
As the halfling returns to take their orders, Nah thinks for a moment and then shrugs. "Fish sound good! Not get to eat very much, nice treat for Nah and friends."
"Eh...kobolds eat all kinds of things. Different meats, different plants...huh. Kind of like humans, now that Nah thinks about it," the kobold answers as they reach the inn. Suddenly feeling a bit nervous again despite having the company of the others, she draws her hood up over her head to hopefully diminish some of the staring from the other patrons.
Once inside, Nah stares with some wonder at the hustle and bustle as different peoples come and go. "Huh...so many humans and little people and others here, maybe Nah not stick out quite so much as she thought," she whispers as they're directed to a quiet table in the corner.
"Eh...depends on kobold," Nah shrugs as they walk. "Most eat meat raw, say lots more juices that way. Is true, but little fire adds flavor, Nah think. And great wyrms sometimes cook meat before eating - the ones with fire breath anyway. So if great wyrms do it then not strange for kobolds to do it!"
"And eat, don't forget that," Nah adds. "So B-er Cyanne and Daen here too?" she asks, her expression brightening. "Can tell them all about kicking Stag Lord out of fort! Will make for good story with food."
Hey guys, my laptop has died and I'm stuck working the next couple of days so until I can get the issue addressed I'm limited to posting from my Kindle - which makes using maps difficult.
Just bot Nah as needed and I'll try and catch up when I get home from work tomorrow night.
For once, Nah is rather silent as Jamanda leads the party through the streets; Oleg's and the Stag Lord's fort were one thing but an actual human city was something else entirely. And as she gazes about in slack-jawed wonder, she also slowly becomes aware of the stares and whispers her presence is eliciting from the people that they pass. For the first time, it hits her that she's very much an outsider in the world beyond the familiar tunnels and forests of home. An outsider and dependent on the close-up of her traveling companions.
"Of course they trust Nah and Boo!" she responds indignantly when the woman asks her question. "Is silly question!"
Bluff:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Sense Motive (DC 10):
For all her bluster, Nah seems to be feeling a bit nervous right now.
During the three-day trip to Restov, Nah largely spends her time alternating between asking all sorts of questions about the sights and other landmarks that they pass and tinkering with Boo when they stop for the night. Despite the rain on the first day and the mud on the first and second, her spirits are high - after all, this was the first time she'd ever left the Stolen Lands. In fact, she was probably the first Sootscale to ever leave!
"See Boo, can't just stay at home if you want to get strong and wise like great wyrms," she chatters on the last day as they approach the Westgate. "Have to go out and learn about world, learn all sorts of things. Knowledge equals power, even some humans know this."
When they reach the Westgate and are greeted by the welcoming committee, Nah puffs up her chest proudly. "Humans knew Nah and Boo and rest were coming! Our names already traveling far and wide!"
"Oh, so like fancy kobold snarl - just for humans instead of kobolds," Nah responds, seemingly satisfied with Oleg's explanation. She looks to her human companions and then shrugs.
"Nah not see problem with taking other humans to this Restov but Nah not in charge, soooo..." she says, looking at her companions expectantly.
"Res-tov? Is that fancy human snarl or something?" the kobold asks curiously. She glances around at the trading post and had to admit that it looked pretty cramped based on what she knew about how humans and other softskins liked to live.
