Hey now! I gave that Monacle to Archepex for safekeeping just in case I ended up doing something foolish... Lyntel is the dirty corpse robber!

Amazing, although not how I pictured the hair. Can you link to the Reddit thread?

Hell yes Morley. Never intended you to leave. Your thief shall ride eternal, shiny and chrome. Let's talk about the new character you'll be rolling.

WITNESS ME!

Moosh, I have every intention of continuing. When we first spoke about the game I mentioned wanting to play a bard. It seems like the bard player in this game has dropped out. Could I play as the woman who was held captive by the rat queen (bard)?

Morley takes a long pause, looking at the cave and back to the light.

It is true that I have killed, but I am no murderer! I killed only to protect what is right ... what is good! To protect against you! What you represent!

I do not fear you! My life was one of endless torment! What can you do to me that wasn't already done a thousand times on the streets! I've faced you every day, and every day I triumphed. Until today. Your minions out there, he gestures to the cave, they will fall to my friends. And I will not betray them, the only friends I ever had. You wish me to serve you? To kill at your behest? Never. He walks into the light without further comment.

Looks like Morley's alignment was good after all!

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Gotta stick with the plan!

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

When the madness finally leaves Morley, he looks down at his ruined legs, vomits, and collapses. As his sight fades, he sees a vision of something that he could never truly comprehend.

Last Breath: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9

Last Breath: When you're dying you catch a glimpse of what lies beyond the Black Gates of Death's Kingdom (the GM will describe it), then roll (just roll, + nothing--yeah, Death doesn't care how tough or cool you are). On a 10+ you're stable. On a 7-9 Death will offer you a bargain-take it and stabilize or refuse and pass beyond the Black Gates into whatever fate awaits you. On a miss, you are dead.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Backstab doesn't look optional, and I'm certainly a surprised enemy. I think I have to go with +1d6 here since the Queen is in control.

Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (5) = 11

Grigor, could I reroll that d8?

Without conscious thought, the remains of Morley's daggers dig deep into his own thighs, with a ferocity that rends muscle and bone alike.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Suddenly finding himself free of the Queen's grasp, Morley plunges what is left of his weapons into the Queen's face.

Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4

Well that is fantastic! I don't suppose she was surprised by the ranger's shot and that counts as a backstab without a roll. wink wink nudge!

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley, you attempt to teleport, but the ring's magic only seems to activate defensively. Will that change your post? I'll try to respect the rolls that you made.

Edited my prior post to take that into account. Here is my defy danger to approach her unseen.

Defy Danger Dex: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley smiles as he notes Bathilda's approach. Nothing quite as distracting as a raging barbarian.

With the Ogres' attentions on Bathilda, Morley slips along the relative darkness of the cavern edge. Once behind the Rat Queen, he nimbly charges her, closing the distance while she focuses on the chaos before her.

He stabs her several times in the kidneys, blood flying everywhere as his daggers repeatedly hit home.

Backstab: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10

Choosing to deal damage +1d6, and create a distraction for myself. +1 forward.

Backstab Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + (5) = 13

Morley does not pause, leaping onto the Rat Queen's back and attempting to slice her throat. He takes advantage of the distraction caused by Bathilda's arrival and the Rat Queen's pain.

Hack & Slash (+1 forward from backstab): 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 + 1 = 8

Hack & Slash damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

After giving the signal, Morley slips back a few rows and makes his way towards the side of the cavern near the Rat-Ogre line.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

I'm going to take some narrative license and assume I know Archepex is looking through my eyes. It is why I did the stunt with Bathilda after all.

Morley looks down at his hand and makes a single signal. Now.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Holy amazing loot, Mooshman!

Morley chooses the location closest to the Rat Queen.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Didn't see your post Moosh, so I deleted a post that didn't make sense. In that post I rolled a 12 on a defy danger to move through crowd.

Morley is completely surprised by the teleportation. Fortunately, his years of honing his reflexes make him subconsciously raise his daggers to attempt to parry the axe.

Defy Danger Dex: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12

After narrowly parrying the blade. Morley tries to exit the mosh pit area as fast as possible. What the hell was that?

Spout Lore to figure out why I transported: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 4) - 1 = 6

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley attempts to weasel his way out of the ham fisted attempts to grab him.

Defy Danger: 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 + 1 = 8

I have to admit that I'm a little frustrated (maybe that's a strong word because I don't care THAT much) by the looting being WIS based. I don't quite understand how there's a narrative justification for high WIS characters being 3x more likely than me to find magical doodads.

If it was just coin I wouldn't care at all, but there's some fun magical stuff going out and 2d6+2 is going to hit 10+ WAY more often than straight 2d6.

Mooshy is there some rationale here that I'm missing?

Did we hear back on this? I'm also curious.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Bathilda, I think the captive is on the far side of the chamber from our kill zone. Probably hundreds of Skaven between us.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Archepex is suddenly slightly disoriented as he finds himself peering out through a cowl of ratty robes. His eyes take in the scene, crossbow emplacements, ogres, traps, and Muppy. His gaze finally falls on Bathilda, back turned, checking on her grenades. The gaze slowly moves from her boots to her head, lingering a bit too long in a few choice places. The gaze suddenly swings over to a tall elf who is frowning and staring right back. The left half of your vision fades for a moment, then returns.

...

At Archepex's words, Morley cannot wait any longer, hoping these new demons will fully distract the ogres. He walks forwarded purposefully, daggers drawn but concealed, towards the bouncers, every bit the Skaven scum returning from guard duty. He lets Muppy gain a lead, and follows behind, trying to slip by when the guards focus on the golem. His plan, once he makes it past, is to slip into the crowd and lose any pursuit.

What should I roll here?

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley gingerly takes the flame trap from Dhice and carefully affixes it to the floor a ways in front of the auto-crossbows. With his knowledge of the trap, he rigs it to trigger if stepped on. He covers it with some dirt. Don't step on this. When the survivors start charging this way, fall back to a safe distance, and continue firing into the confusion.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

It might be best to have Archepex looking through my eyes so group knows what is happening. Also I'm really looking forward to an RP moment with that.

Grigor's idea IS awesome and I look forward to Archepex using to great effect in the future.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley takes several calming breaths as the others prepare. He hands the Monacle to Archepex. If I don't make it, I wouldn't want these rats to have it. Could Mule distract the large ones standing guard? I should be able to disappear into the crowd easily enough once I'm past them.

Legolas doesn't have a thing on Archepex.

Anyone have any implements of mass destruction? Dhice, do you still have that flame trap?

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

This plan is reckless and crazy. It's perfect.

I've added my crossbow back to the pile, so there are at least three available.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Your shots alone should serve as distraction enough. If any of you happen to hit her, all the better.

Morley takes a moment to inspect himself, and then takes the robes from the other gunners, attempting to cover his whole body.

Is it too meta-gamey to suggest that if we go through with this mad plan, that Archepex use his talisman to look through my eyes during the approach? Then he would know precisely when my cover is blown.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley shrugs out of his leathers and puts on one of the gunner's ratted robes. Worth a shot I suppose ...

As he changes, he points at the various auto-crossbows, adding the one he previously took to the pile. He speaks to the group as a whole. Hjalmar, can Agatha hit at 130 yards? Archepex, what about your bow? These cross-bows should have the range.

Here is what I propose. I will attempt to make my way through the crowd to that captive's side. If I make it, or if I am discovered, you should all shoot the rat queen and fall back. I will use the distraction to either free the captive or escape. Dhice, can you rig this tunnel to collapse on the Skaven that pursue you?

It is dangerous, but we can't take them all at once. Our priorities should be to kill the queen and free that woman.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

As the party considers its options, Morley inspects the ring.

Spout Lore: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 4) - 1 = 5

Just a mundane ring. Oh well, should be worth something. He puts it on.

Is there any crossbow ammo about?

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Well then. Can I take an auto-crossbow from one of the bastards?

Looting: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 1 = 8

Coins: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (10, 2) + 10 = 22

Morley ducks his head back around the corner and motions for the group to retreat to a distance safe for whispering. He relates what he saw, and shrugs. Any ideas?

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Sensing consensus, Morley leads the group down the tunnel. Comforted by the presence of Archepex's sharp eyes behind him, Morley advances with bow drawn wary for traps as always.

I'm afraid of spamming Trap Expert when it isn't really necessary, because it provides a potentially unfair source of XP. Perhaps it would be better for you to just call for the rolls when it makes sense Moosh? Morley knows his job is to look out for traps, and generally tries to do so.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Emma, do you take damage when you heal?

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

When the party regroups, Morley will relate what he knows about the source of the music coming from an opening in the chasm wall far below us.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

As the crossbow fire ceases, Morley peeks his head up out of cover to look at the Skaven's position. Seeing that they have retreated, Morley moves forward through the room, darting from cover to cover, intent on reaching the far tunnel, where he will post guard with his bow until the remaining members reach him.

That was awesome Hjalmar!

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

If you can walk, we need to move. The longer we wait, the longer they have to prepare.

Morley puts his Monacle on to X-Ray, and cautiously makes he way across the chasm, wary for traps.

Trap Expert: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

I love that the Barbarian and the Warrior go straight over the cliff, while the Thief just throws a rope down.

Maybe diverting Bathilda's anger will help.

Easy ladies. Form a perimeter if you can stand.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Witch Mother, definitely the Witch Mother ...

Morley approaches Archepex and smiles nervously at his old teacher.

Let's make a deal, I scout inside, you scout outside.

He gingerly takes the Monacle back and sets it to IR before putting it on. He notches an arrow, carefully scanning the surroundings.

Get them up as soon as you can, there are bound to be more on the way.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Basically, although I'm not sure "jumped" is the right word.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

After confirming Archepex lives, Morley rushes back to Dhice and his discarded bow. He grabs the bow. That's enough Dhice. Morley waits for the passage to return to normal and together they rush back to the pillar, Morley dragging Bathilda's gear (if any).

At the edge, Morley pulls a rope out of his pack, secures it, and nimbly clambers down after his Monacle ... I mean after his friend.

Mark 1 use of adventuring gear.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Gods damn it!

Morley tosses his bow to the floor and moves as fast as he can through the passage. He draws his daggers on the move.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley hands the Monacle to Archepex. This might be useful.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Morley senses the hesitation of the more heavily armored members of the group. Mule could scout it out. I will act as a lure if necessary.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Do you hear that? A woman is singing down this way. Perhaps it is this Witch-Mother. Or it is another prisoner. Either way she needs to be rescued or slain.

Is this crack wide enough to fit our larger party members?
